Should I install a 32 bit printer driver on a 64 Operating Sytem?

I have an HP Officejet 6700e wireless printer.  It is used by 2 computers.  The Operating Systems on the computers are as follows:
1 – HP Pavilion laptop using Windows 8.1, 64 bit.
2 – HP Pavilion laptop using Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit.
I noticed there are BOTH 32 bit and 64 bit printer drivers for Windows 7 and Windows 8 & 8.1.
 I have 2 questions:
First, since both computers use 64 bit operating systems, shouldn't I install the 64 bit printer driver?
Second, is there any advantage to installing the 32 bit printer driver on a 64 bit operating system?
Thanks very much, Terry
This question was solved.
View Solution.

Install the driver which  matches the operating system and the bit type (32-bit or 64-bit)  that is installed on each PC.
Second, is there any advantage to installing the 32 bit printer driver on a 64 bit operating system? There is no  advantage at all. It would actually be a bad practice unless the printer driver is compatible with both bit types.

Dear-Users......... i have connected 5 computers through a switch and ( hp laserjet 2014) printer is directly connected to one of them and shared on the network.  3 computers running on windows xp and one i added last time it was windows 7 (32 bit)
it is working good as well. the problem now i am facing is this today i tried to add one more windows 7 (64 bit) pc to this network. now this computer  can't access the printer. i have installed the printer driver on the pc but its not finding he printer
on network ......my pc is sharing other network resources the problem is not of connection its connected to the network just printer driver is making problem for me.........any suggestion....i tried to install this 64 bit printer diriver on the printer server
computer as additional driver .....but it does not worksssss.......what should i do.......thxxxxx

So this issue is that your newly Windows 7 doesn't detect the shared printer, are you able to add this printer manually? Type "Add a printer" in start button\search box, then in the Add printer Wizard, select
Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer, Choose a network printer...
And make sure the network is working correctly and the computer where the printer is plugged in is turned on.

  • Is the final cut pro application too large for my 13" mac pro or should I install it on an external drive?

Is the final cut pro application too large for my mac book pro laptop? Should I install it on a hard drive?

4 GB hard drive!?!  It's a memory size not hard drive size   Your hard drive is much bigger than 4 GB . If you have 2011 model then hard drive size is 500GB or 750 GB HDD. You can install final cut pro and many other programs .

  • Install Brother QL-570 printer driver

    Hello,
I am new to arch and I was wondering what is the best way to install the brother QL-570 driver.
The drivers can be found here.
    http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bs … tml#QL-570
So my questions are as follows:
    1. Should I install the LPR or CUPS version?
    2. Should I install the rpm or .deb version?
If .deb should I use deb2targz like in
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XirJietlTfI
Or should I just create a PKGBUILD like in the following example.
    http://nemrod.se/guides/install-rpm-pac … rch-linux/
    3. How do I check and resolve any dependencies?
    Thanks David

Did you try following the wiki? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CU … ter_driver
The package hplib is what I used for my brother printer. Then configure using cups. It's painless.

  • Problem with installing HP LaserJet 1102 printer driver

    Hi there,
I have got realy annoying problem with printer driver installation on HP LaserJet 1102.
Basically I downloaded driver from the website and tried to install printer. When the installation is almost done, the message pops up(image attached).
I've checked printer spooler service, tried almost everything.
    Any suggestions/ideas?
    Thanks
    Minhoquinho

I would suggest going into your control panel and uninstalling everything associated with the p1102, rebooting your computer and trying a fresh install.
If this does not solve the install issue, please repost and error message along with your OS so that we may better help you.

  • How do install an OS 9 print driver if I can't startup in 9?

That pretty much sums up the issue. My G4 Powerbook will run classic but won't startup in 9. I have a print driver installer for 9 but it returns odd errors when I try to run the installer.
    Thanks

If the printer in question has a Mac OS X driver, you don't need to install the Mac OS 9 driver into a system which is being used as Classic for Mac OS X 10.4; instead, use the LaserWriter 8 driver in the Chooser.

  • Problems installing HP LJ M1319F printer driver

I have a home/office network. My HP LJ M1319f is attached to a desktop machine that is always on.
The printer is shared on my network and everyone has full permissions
I have another desktop and a Laptop that can access the printer via the fact it's shared.
The Laptop has Windows Vista and when I downloaded the HP driver and ran the installation, the install process
wanted to know if the printer was attached locally or was it networked.
I selected the network option and it proceeded to locate the printer and install the drivers no problem.
I now have an additional laptop running Windows 8 (all machines on my network run 64 bit Vista, or Win7)
So I downloaded the driver for Windows 8 64bit. However when I run the install, it never prompts for whether or not the
printer is networked, it simply tells me to plug the printer's USB plug into the computer and click NEXT.
Why isn't the driver install program asking me if the printer is locally attached or networked ?
Best Regards Hope to hear from someone soon.
    Guy

    Hi 2UWrangler
The downloaded driver is a plug and play driver and you have to connect the usb cable for it to continue the installation.
Here are the specifications for this printer and it is only usb supported.

  • Win 7 Not Finding HP 64 Bit Printer Driver

I downloaded the correct 64 bit driver for my LaserJet 3050 onto the new Win 7 PC and ran it. It created a folder with the various driver files inside.
The printer is connected to an XP machine by USB with printer and file sharing enabled. The rest of the home lan can see and use the printer.
Win7 finds the printer OK but when prompted to manually browse for a driver, I take it to the new driver folder where the requested file is plainly visible, but Win7 says an appropriate file cannot be found. I repeated the download and driver install from HP but no change.
Is there some trick to convincing win 7 to recognizing this driver? Right now a Win 7 driver for a similar printer is working passably so all the connections and network logic seem to be fine, but I'd like to get the real driver to install.

Try the following: go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, Local Printer, Create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the actual share name for the computer and printer), OK, then click "Have Disk" and point to the appropriate directory.

  • Unable to install Officejet Pro L7590 print driver in Windows 8.1

I have lost days of time trying to get my OfficeJet Pro L7590 to print properly and otherwise operate in a stable manner.  My computer is a new Dell XPS8700 running Windows 8, upgraded to Windows 8.1 via the "Store" app after purchase.  My problems started soon after the 8.1 update.
The primary problem symptom is the printing of about a half page of text fine, then the printer spits the page out and prints several more pages of mostly blank paper with random symbols around a top or side edge.  This occurs regardless of the program doing the printing, i.e., MS Word, Excel, Acrobat, etc.
I have run the Printing Doctor program many times which doesn't fix anything, despite its claims to the contrary (more below).
I have been on this forum many times and tried multiple instances of uninstall/reinstall without success.  The HP Installer may make it through the whole installation process but unstable performance of the printer is the outcome.  Uninstalling the printer software using HP's uninstaller ALWAYS crashes before it can finish uninstalling.  I get a message of "HP Installer Uninstaller has stopped working".  I would attach a screenshot here but I does not seem an option in this window.
I have run multiple versions of HP's scrubber programs which also crash by level 2 with same message.  I still ran L4 regardless but that crashes, too.  That's the constant of every uninstallation or scrubbing effort using HP's programs:  a crash without an error message given beyond the "HP Installer Uninstaller has stopped working".
I run the Printer/Scanner Doctor tool when the software was malfunctioning and it always finds a Print Spooler problem, "fixes" it but the problem remains.  This posting is coming after the "Doctor" tool told me to uninstall the program.  HP's uninstaller crashed, as usual, but the I was told to use Windows Add/Remove programs to finish the job.  I did.  I have not tried to install the program again and am becoming close to 'Refreshing' my entire Windows program, which will require reinstalling and updating Windows and every program I use - which will take days.  I hope to avoid that step.
Dell's hardware analysis utility tells me everything hardware is great!
I truly believe HP's software IS THE PROBLEM and would love to figure this out.  The printer has always worked great - until the Windows 8.1 update.  The scanner will work fine (usually) after I reinstall the software.  I used the printer before on my prior computer running Windows 7 with no trouble.
Going into today's crash info, via Event Viewer, I have this message from the error log:
Application 'C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqbam08.exe' (pid 3960) cannot be restarted - Application SID does not match Conductor SID..

There was an earlier - about 30 minutes earlier - warning saying:
The application (HP Solution Center, from vendor Hewlett-Packard) has the following problem: To function properly, HP Solution Center must be reinstalled after you upgrade Windows.
I have reinstalled it many times.  I have used HP's installation & uninstallation utilities, including the Installation failure utility, none of which install the program properly, CERTAINLY not well enough that I can EVER uninstall it without a crashed uninstallation per description above...
I think I have reviewed and tried every "canned" HP quick solution, and not so quick solution, on this forum.

  • With Boot Camp, should I install the 64 bit version of Windows 7 (Home Premium edition) OR the 32 bit version when installing onto an early 2008 Mac Pro operating OSX Lion with a 1 TByte internal HDD?

With an early 2008 Mac Pro I'm about to add a second internal drive (1 TByte SATA) and initially install OSX Lion onto the new drive.  Then to partition this new HDD via Boot camp.  But my question is whether I am best advised to purchase the 64 bit version of Windows 7 (Home Premium) or the 32 bit version of Windows 7 (Home Premium) for the Windows sector of the disk  What are the differences, and will I notice a difference in performance?

In chart from wiki, (scroll down to "Comparison chart") check the maximum CPUs supported.
You don't see this on MSoft's 1st searched for chart hit. This is one reason you will regret not paying for Professional+ if you get Home Premium 64 as I did for Mac Pro early 2008.
Home Prem Task Mgr sees 4 processors vs. the 8 that are seen by Pro+.
Costs more than a Mac upgrade to Lion if you make that mistake.

  • Difficulty installing Brother MFC-J825 printer driver

    Hi
I'm trying to install a Brother MFC-J825DW printer to my MacBook Air running OSX 10.8.5.
I have downloaded and successfully installed the driver from the Brother website.   However when I connect the printer via a USB port:
-- I can see the printer in 'Print and Scan' preferences
-- but I can't find the driver downloaded from Brother
-- instead I get prompted to dowload te driver from Apple
-- After clicking 'Install' - a few moments later, I get a message saying: The software is currently unavailable.
How can I use the drivers as downloaded directly from Apple?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Krish

... However when I connect the printer via a USB port:
The MFC-J825DW is a wireless printer. Assuming you have a wireless network, it's best to not use its USB connection at all.
Make sure the printer is connected to your wireless network. You can use its front panel control for configuration: Menu > Network > WLAN. Refer to its manual, page 34:
    http://download.brother.com/welcome/doc002847/cv_mfc825dw_eng_net_b.pdf
Once you get it working, check Brother's website for firmware updates. An update was released for it about a month ago. Don't update its firmware until you get it working reliably.
