Should i Swap my career from hardware engg to Sap Basis Consultant?

Hi,
I am into computer hardware and networking since last 14 years. Now i am planning to go for SAP basis certification. Will it be helpful to obtain a good career? Or i should proceed towards microsoft certification only?
What are the basic requirements to become a SAP Basis consultant?
Thanks in advance
Milind

SAP Certification is always an added advantage those who are seeking a career in SAP. Just check with the Education Partners like Siemens / Genovate / Yash etc for the pre-requisites... One more important thing is SAP Certification is much difficult that Microsoft Certification. Hope this helps

  • Career change to VMware or SAP BASIS?

    Hi Friends,
I have 4 years experience as a System Administrator (Windows & Linux). Now I'm planning to change my career to another technology. I considered VMware and SAP BASIS. Here I have confusion which technology should I choose, which one have better job scope (VMware or SAP BASIS). Please give me your valuable suggestion for my career growth...

Note: Discussion successfully moved from VMware vCenter™ to Virtual Lounge
Honestly, I think you would be fine going with either of those paths. Good Luck!

  • Career for SAP Basis consultant

    Dear Friends,
I am into SAP Basis, most of the jobs have been outsourced in UK as such there are hardly any jobs in sap basis . Please can u kindly suggest me what is the next best option for SAP Basis for more career opportunities. Please kindly suggest me, I don't have job for last 10 months.
    Thanks.

I am trying to reply all the bullets in your post one by one.
Some of the agencies (AtoS and some others) I have got in touch with to discuss this certification have suggested doing SAP SD or MM certification, keeping my experience in view. If I do it what is your guess how soon I could find a job with this certification.
for training and certification you can go to any SAP authorized institute , you can find many depends upon which country you are presently staying.
What kind of salary will I be able to attract if I do get a job. Currently I am getting good salary by auto industry standards (around $15K). As per the information I have got the starting salaries in these roles are some times less than half of what I am getting now.
if you are already at $15K  (1,50,000 US Dollar if i correctly understand)  then you are earning much higer then a SAP consultant having a decade experience in SAP. Better look for management job. If salary is the criteria.
Finally how fast is the growth in this industry? Let us say I do the certification spend some $500 and join a company with salary less than half of my current. After doing this, as per your experience how soon will I be able to reach or exceed the salary I would have been getting otherwise (assume I perform fairly well in my SAP role ;-).
    refer the above one
So finally should I go ahead with the certification?
Certification is optional , if you just have user level experience you may not be knowing all what comes within an module, i still recommend training as it give you all back ground about SAP and you can understand most of the master data piece to create a right foundation for a module.
    Hope this will help you.
    Thanks

  • How to shift from ERP tester to SAP Functional Consultant?

    Hi friends,
I'm currently working as a Software tester and have worked with ERP applications(Not SAP) for more that 2.5 years now. I do have a decent domain knowledge of ERP at present.
I want to learn SAP and make a career as a functional consultant.
My question is:  If i do a course in one of the functional modules of SAP will i be able to get a job in SAP with my prior experience of ERP?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Arjun

    Dear Mr.Arjun Nair,
Welcome to the world of SAP. Congrats for choosing sap as your career platform.
I appreciate your interest on SAP ERP.
Based on your interest you can choose any module ( technical / functional ).Each module has its own importance in real time.
If you want learn more about any / preffered module, you can always access help.sap.com which will give you a list of results and among them you can choose whichever link you want to start studying on that subject.
Based on your research choose a right module which suits you better.
It might depends on your Interest also, Like if you are interested more on Programming side then think about Technical module ABAP.
Or if your interest is more on Functional side ( Requires business process knowledge on various / any industries & configuration skills in ERP ).
Based on your experience I  believe that the  below functional modules will be more suitable for people who has some Business / Domain / experience . Just think & try to follow the SAP Help to take a right decision.
MM – MATERIAL MANAGEMENT  ( More about Purchasing related activities  / Goods receipts / Inventory Management / vendor management )
SD – SALES & DISTIBUTION ( All sales related activities)
    PP – Production Planning
    Wish you all the best.

  • CAreer in SAP BASIS comaprision with SAP GRC/Security

    Hi Everyone,

I want to change my career to SAP GRC/SAP Security, i have some basic knowledge on SAP Security,
COuld you please advice me, which one to choose,?
Does  SAP GRC/Security has demand , and can we get oportunities to work abroad compared to SAP BASIS ?
which one has more scope SAP BASIS or SAP Security/GRC ?

    Hi Rakesh
I saw your post in GRC and was waiting of it to appear here
First up - 2 years is still junior. You may find batch jobs, transports, monitoring, etc all mundane but it is a foundation and learning ground work and foundations to being a good Basis Administration. And one things for sure, an awesome basic (I name my best-techy-friend) makes a huge difference on project timelines and deliverables for the rest of us.
Installation and Upgrades come with time. Whilst still performing junior tasks you could focus on reading up on approaches in case an opportunity in your job comes us and be prepared to prove to your management that you are ready for a bigger responsibility.
Switching to GRC/Security would be pointless unless you have a desire to learn GRC or Security. These are my background and they are undervalued until things go wrong (insurance policy in a way).
If you do switch you will reset your 2 years of domain experience back to 0 and you will start off with password resets and basic user administration
It takes time to work through the ranks. It was 3 years before I got to build my first role. I spent my first few years in security on email chasing approvals, password resets, user account creation, running reports for audit - sounds familiar to what you are doing now?
You have to master the basics before you are trusted and ready for the more complex activities. By knowing what you are doing now you will be more successful when the time comes to step up and do migrations, upgrades and installations. Support production by mastering you technical analysis skills is how you can break through being a fresher/junior
    Regards
    Colleen
Ps - if your motivation is more than "good things" happy to answer questions specific to security and GRC.
Also, boring doesn't mean it can't get interesting nor does it mean it's a worthless activity: SPAU transport imported before patching!!

  • Shift from SAP-Basis to SAP-BI

    Hello Friends,
I am a SAP-Basis consultant and my company wants me to shift to SAP-BI. Can you please tell me if this is a good move and if anyone has actually moved from Basis to BI please do share your experience. Let me know approximate time it would take for a SAP-Basis consultant to shift to SAP-BI.
Are there any techniques which will help me in smooth transition to this module.
    Thanks!!

    Hi Zaheer,
    Welcome to SAP BI forums.
First of all there many people who have changed from one module to another module in SAP. You can see many ABAPers who shift to BI. To get into BI first you need to have knowledge of SAP BW, once you learn BW then you can go to BI. There are few differences between them. I think you can easily get accoustomed with. In BW/BI also we have some authorizations. In BW/BI there are three main areas. 1.Modeling 2. Reporting and 3. Extraction. In future the reporting that is the Bex part will get changed to SAP BO according to the road map. Once you learn BI then you can shift to SAP BPC which is a part of EPM (enterprise performance management) which have BPC in the front end and BI at the back end. Its always good to learn new modules to keep ourselves tuned in.
    Hope it helps.
    Regards,
    Raghu.

  • Looking to switch career from Java to SAP Business One

    Hi All,
I have around 4 yrs of experience in JAVA/J2EE application development.I am planning to switch my career into SAP(in Technofuctional module).Actually, I want to switch my career from coding to functional domain(in SAP) but i don't know how to get into it.I want to work as close as to the business and get use of my technical background because that's all I got so far. Please guide me which SAP module i would choose to build my career and what steps i should  take .
    Thank You

    Hi SunnyB
SAP Business one is an intergrated solution with all domains in one application.  Things like purchasing, materials, finance, crystal reports etc comes into one single application called SAP Business One.  Historically SAP Business One developmed by a software firm based in Israel and SAP AG acquired the company and renamed it like SAP Business One.  My suggestion would be it is a good application suitable for small and medium type businesses where business processes are not complicated.  However, if you want to make career in one specific domain listed below, you need to look into SAP's ERP modules:
    1.Materials Management
    2.Financials(Financial Accounting)
    3.Controlling(Cost & Management Accounting)
    4. BI(Business Intelligence is a reporting tool and data mining tool)
    5. HR
    6. Basis(Technical module where installation and authorisation including system security etc are taken care of)
    7. Travel Management(Application for employee/non-employee expense claims)
    8. ABAP(Advanced Business Appln.Programming owned by SAP AG)
    9. Project Systems
    10. Others that I donno at this stage but exists.
My suggestion would be to go for anything as per your interest and not purely financial.  Of course you'll be rewarded good with any of the above modules but learn based on your interest.
    Good luck!
    Mohammed.

  • HT201269 If I want to take my old iPhone and swap the number from my wife's phone to it so she can use it for her phone how do I do it?

If I want to take my old iPhone and swap the number from my wife's phone to it so she can use it for her phone how do I do it?

    With AT&T it's ridiculously easy.
    Create backups for each device
Log out of iCloud Apple ID
    Erase all content and settings
    Power off the devices
    Change the SIM
    Power on the device
Configure with the appropriate Apple ID
Finally, dial 611 to let AT&T know what iPhone should answer to what number.

  • Need guidance on switching career from dot-net to MSBI

I want to switch my career from dotnet to MSBI.
I am having more than one year of experience in dotnet technologies.I have good analytic skills and good programming skills.I am very interested in SQL Server.I want to learn MSBI,but i don't have any idea how to start?, which one need to start first among
SSIS, SSRS, SSAS. Which is best in these three in MSBI?
Is my decision is good in career selection?
will i get the better opportunities MSBI with dotnet?
    Please suggest me on this...
    Thanking you......

    Hi Shaik,
As per my understanding, I think you can start with SSIS. It features a fast and flexible data warehousing tool used for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL). Then we can use SSAS to analyze and make sense of information possibly spread out
across multiple databases, or in disparate tables. After that, then use SSRS that retrieve the data to display data in a report.
Besides, we always use Script task that write with C# or VB code to implement some functions in SSIS. So it can be better benefit from your programming skills.
Based on my experience, to begin with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), we should know what we can do with SSIS, the architecture of Integration Services, Integration Services Features and Tasks and how to design a package, deploy package and execute
package. Then create some packages followed by some tutorials, post some threads in this forum to ask the problems you experienced or share some useful knowledge you acquired.

  • Swap Hard Drive from 15" MBP to 13" MBP

I have decided my two month old 15" MacBook Pro is just too big to lug around with me all the time and am going to replace it with a new 13" MacBook Pro. Can I just swap the drive from my 15 to my 13 and expect everything to work? It is a larger 7200 RPM 500 GB HD so I want to use it in my new machine and don't want to have to play musical chairs with the data if I can avoid it.
    Thanks!

No - you are better off migrating the data. Migration Assistant will do the job. OS X installs are specific to the machine they are installed on, and the hardware configuration of that machine.

  • Should i delete my photos from iPhoto after I import to aperture

should i delete my photos from iPhoto after I import to aperture? What is the easiest way to do this?

    Depends.
Did you copy the files into the Aperture Library on Import?
If so, it's safe to do so. My tip: wait a few weeks until you're happy that you're committed to Aperture.
Drag the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder to the trash.

Hi everyone. I both a Mac Pro 15" in March 2009. Five month ago I  was forced to buy by one new hard drive and extent the memory, because I had to make the upgrade (and pay) to install the new Lion operation system. Four days ago the Mother-board fails. To change it will cost a fortune. What should I do or expect from Apple to solve this problem? I am very disappointed because my trust on Apple was destroyed.

I am not sure why you are upset with Apple. Electronics equipment does fail. If the product is out of warranty or you do not have AppleCare there's not much you can do with Apple. Apple will charge you for the repair. Suggest you look for a third party repair store since they are usually less expensive than Apple. Alternatively you can buy one for about $850US and install it yourself. Sorry, but there aren't many choices in this situation.
