Should i upgrade my 5S to iOS 7.1.2?

Got my new phone today, is equiped with iOS 7.0.3.
Should i upgrade to the last iOS release? I've heard ( and read) about many problems also with network settings, both on 7.1.2 and 7.1, can you give me a tip?

Usually i download the ipsw of the new iOS version and via itunes i restore my phone as new phone giving as input the ipsw file just downloaded. Basically a clean installa.
Then i restore my previous backup. I don't trust the "incremental" method of update.

Backed up on iTunes first.
Launched upgrade from iTunes.
All seem fine until got a message that could not access phone because it was locked and should enter passcode to gain access.
Entered passcode and now on phone have progress bar which has not budged for about 3 hours. No longer see phone as device in iTunes.
Should I continue to be patient?

Unless you have a very slow Internet connection it should not take 3 hours. On my 50 Mbps connecting it takes 15 minutes. While the phone is updating it may disappear from iTunes; that part is normal. But not for 3 hours. Was the phone ever jailbroken?

This seems to be a case-by-case thing. Some phones are slower, some use more battery, etc. My 4S was fine - I loved iOS 7 on it (I have a 5S now) My battery was fine, I was able to use it all day, and listen to music on it for 8 hours each night at work, and still have 30-40% left when I got home.

I had an iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1 on it and I didn't notice any more or less battery life. I don't know what "bug" you're referring to.

Do not do it! I just recently upgraded. My ipad 2 is super slow. All the efforts to speed it up/optimize didn’t help much. iPad 2 doesn’t have enough memory and cpu is not powerful enough to handle ios 8. Apple made bad call releasing it (or the intention was to brick old hardware so people go to stores to buy newer hardware). To make matters worse iOS 8.3 is very unstable – my ipad kept crushing very frequently – something I never saw before. Thank god I was able to revert to 8.2. I spent countless hours trying to downgrade to 7.1.2 only to learn that it’s impossible. I even went to Apple store to ask for help with downgrading but they just said what I already knew – it was impossible. Just like mdiamond58 said if I could downgrade to 7.1.2 I would do it in a heartbeat. Thank you Apple for changing my iPad into paper weight.

See if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Turn your phone off. Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

No, it's not true. If someone were to buy it from you then it would have to be completely restored as new at which time only the then current version of iOS can be installed. Having an older version on it now makes it worth no more than if it had 7.1.1 installed.
When you sell or give it away the new user cannot use anything on the device that is registered to your Apple ID. That's everything. You will need to turn off Find My Phone, remove the phone from your @icloud.com Find My Phone, then erase it completely. Unless you do that the device is useless to another owner. Erasing it will result in having the new iOS version installed.

Go to your home screen, and then press the volume down or up button. It should say Ringer instead of volume. If it doesn't do that, try going into the clock app and try it there.
