Should I use Embed or Object - quick question...

Hi all,
I've got a few .swf files on my site. One of them uses the following code:
<object style="float:left;" id="intro" name="intro"
type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
data="<?php echo $siteurl; ?>/intro_movie/intro.swf" width="300"
height="188">
<param name="wmode" value="image" />
<param name="movie" value="<?php echo $siteurl; ?>/intro_movie/intro.swf" />
</object>
Another one uses the following:
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
var params = {};
var attributes = {};
swfobject.embedSWF("<?php echo $siteurl;  ?>/swf/testimonials.swf", "_testimonials", "405", "43", "9.0.0", "expressInstall.swf", flashvars, params, attributes);
</script>
<div id="_testimonials">
<a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer" title="Get flashplayer">
<img src="http://www.adobe.com/images/shared/download_buttons/get_flash_player.gif" width="112" height="33" alt="Get Flashplayer" border="0" />
</a>
</div>
On a computer recently the first example showed up fine but the second example didn't show up at all.
I just wondered what the correct way to show .swf files is on a webpage.
I'm very sorry if this is a stupid question but any help you could give me on this would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
John Thornley ;-)

Thank you for your reply.
I should clarify that both of those examples are working on my machine. However, on another machine only the top example showed up at the bottom example caused 404 errors as it was trying to load expressInstall.swf which wasn't in the directory.
This confused me as I wondered if there was any detriment to just having all my swf on my site integrated using the top method?
I didn't write the bottom example and I don't really understand it fully. I'm not sure whether my best move is to just convert everything to the top example or whether I should try and find a copy of "expressInstall.swf" and try and get the bottom example working on this other machine?
Which is the correct way?
Thanks again for your continued support
Cheers
John ;-)

  • Easiest Question - Should I use some BI Object?

    This potentially is the easiest question here.
    Before I spend tons of time and effort learning BI to see if I can do something, I thought I'd just throw out a query here.
    I'm creating an Interactive Form that the user will fill out, when they are finished they will press a 'post' button that will create a simple xml or flat file of the information and send it to the necessary parties.  However, the business wants to 'report' on this information as well so they feel we need to put this data into COPA. Another collegue opted for an SIS structure or something like that. While both of these will work (the COPA option is the least desired) I thought, 'we don't have BI, but maybe I can post that data directly to a cube or something??'.
    Hence the query.
    Should we just simply post to an SIS structure, low overhead, pretty easy...or should we somehow put it in BI, lots of overhead, lots of learning because we do not have it, but scalable and positions us for growth.
    See...just an opinion question.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    I hope this is the possible solution for your query.
    1. Go to SICF and activate this web service: u201C/sap/bc/srt/rfc/sap/QUERY_VIEW_DATAu201D
    2. Go to transaction WSCONFIG and enter service destination u201CQUERY_VIEW_DATAu201D and enter variant u201Cquery_view_datau201D and hit enter. Currently, there are no released services so create a new service.
    3. Choose Save to release this web lservice.
    4. Choose ICF Details -> External Aliases
    5. Choose u201CNewu201D to create a new external alias.
    6. Enter external alias u201C/sap/bw/xml/soap/queryviewu201D and enter description u201CSAP BI Web Service u2013 XML Result Setu201D
    7. Specify your security and user ID on the u201CLogon datau201D tab.
    8. Specify u201C/sap/bc/srt/rfc/sap/QUERY_VIEW_DATAu201D under the u201CTrg Elementu201D tab.
    9. Save your external alias.
    10. Go to transaction WSADMIN -> Goto -> Administration Settings. Ensure that the path to your J2EE is specified here and save this.
    11. Find your web service and choose the u201CWeb service homepageu201D
    12. Login to your ABAP system from the Web Service Navigator
    13. Choose Test -> GetQueryViewData to test this service.
    14. Enter and Infoprovider and Query and send the request to test this web service. Note: If the query has mandatory variables, those must be passed in the parameter. For thesake of this test, use a query without variables.
    15. Ensure the request and response are successful.
    16. If you have issues, make sure you activate your Web Service and Interface in SE80
    17. Here is an example of how to pass parameters for filter values using WEB API commands. We are passing the FILTER_IOBJNM=0D_CHANNEL and FILTER_VALUE=3.
    18. Here is an example of how to pass parameters for variable values using WEB API commands. In this case,we are using a selection option variable. We are passing the following parameters:
    VAR_NAME_1=DISTGOP
    VAR_OPERATOR_1=EQ
    VAR_VALUE_LOW_EXT_1=3
    VAR_VALUE_HIGH_EXT_1=5
    Hope this would help you.

  • Estimate ADF web app use size in Weblogic - quick question

    Hi
    1- Is there a good way to estimate or get a better accurate measurement of the amount of memory required/used by a running ADF app within Weblogic Server ?
    Eg How much memory footprint does a deployed ADF app uses (not including those apps that comes with weblogic installs in the deployment section of WLS UI) ?
    2- Because we have ADF as a web app, is there a usually a big increase in memory usages of ADF web app when more people are logged in ?
    Any memory tool as a quick way to get the memory sizes ?
    Thanks

    AFAIK,You need to first calculate the live data size for your application with the help of the GC logs to find out the ideal memory for your app to run :)
    You can enable the GC logs -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintGCDetails -Xloggc:<Filename> to find out the live data size for your application

  • Quick question! What tool should I use to make this logo?

    I would like to know how to make the following image 1 to turn to image 2 ? What tool should I use? Thank you very much !

    Probably the quickest way would be to use Offset Path, that is if the original file is vector artwork.  Your two screen shot images do not match.  If your assignment is to recreate the "CNN" logo, you'd be best to start with the internal Stroke ( White ).  Use the existing artwork as a template Layer.  Draw on a separate Layer going by the existing artwork.  Simple Pen tool operation consisting of around eight anchor points.  Once you've established the most accurate Stroke rendition, copy the file using a different name ( CNN02.ai or similar ).  Outline the copy.  Then, use Offset Path for the outer Red ( save that as CNN03.ai ). Copying in sequential steps allows you to go back just in case something does not look right.  If accuracy is important, you'll have to resolve the "C" deviation you have right now.

  • Quick Question: When to use ( ) and when to use [ ] and why the ( *)

    Hi all,
    A quick question that i'm sure is very simple but is slightly confusing me. I've just started trying to learn Objective-C and am a little confused by ( ) and [ ].
    I get that you use the [ ] brackets when you want something specific from an object, i.e.
    [ textField textColor ]
    and that you use ( ) brackets for things like:
    if ( x == y) {
    But I get confused when I see things like:
    NSLog(@"some text here");
    Why does that get ( ) brackets and why is it not [ ].
    Also another point of confusion, creating methods... Why are some methods done like:
    - (void)awakeFromNib
    And others done like (with the additional "*" added):
    - (NSString *)stringvalue
    As I said, I'm sure this is very simple and obvious, but it is confusing me slightly.
    Thanks in advance!

    Adam:
    As you already know, square brackets are used to send a message to an object, so if a object like myObject implements the method -doSomething, you can call it with:
    \[myObject doSomething\];
    The other use square for brackets have is to index C-style arrays, such as:
    aValue = anArray\[10\]; // Get the 10-element of an array
    However, because C-style arrays are rarely used in Cocoa applications (use NSArray instead) you will not see this situation often.
    Parenthesis in expressions are used to group and prioritize, such as:
    x = 10 * (3 + 5); // x = 80
    If () statements use it to delimit the test expression. Same with while (). for () uses it to enclose the limits and increment statements, etc.
    The other important use of parenthesis is in calling a C function:
    result = foo(3);
    means that you are calling the function named foo with the argument 3, and storing the the return value in the variable 'result'. This is different from a message because a C function is not a method of an object. They exist independently of any objects. NSLog() is a function defined within Cocoa but it is not a method. So, you call it with the traditional C function call syntax. Cocoa defines other functions like NSStringFromRect(), which takes an NSRect as argument and returns a pointer to an NSString.
    And that leads me to your last question. Some methods return simple types, like int, float, or void (i.e. returns no value). These methods will have prototypes like:
    \- \(void\)returnNothing;
    \- (int)returnInteger;
    Other methods return pointers to types, like:
    \- (int \*)returnPointerToInteger;
    \- (void \*)returnPointerToAnything; // In obj-C one typically uses id instead of void*
    Returning whole objects from methods has problems and it is better to just return a pointer (the address in memory) instead:
    \- (NSString *)makeAString;
    The method above returns a pointer to an NSString rather than the entire object.
    Good luck with your learning,
    Juan-Pablo

  • I noticed that Find My iPhone on iCloud hasn't worked since iOS 8 came out. My device uses iOS 7. My question is: do I need to upgrade my device? If not, what should I do? I do not wish to upgrade my device.

    I noticed that Find My iPhone on iCloud hasn't worked since iOS 8 came out. Whenever I try to use it, it always says "All Devices Offline." This is regardless of whether I am in a good Wi-Fi zone or not.  I like to use Find My iPhone to remotely track my battery charging status whenever my phone is charging in a different room. That's been really handy, which is why I really need to get this fixed. No matter what computer I use, the problem is always the same.
    My device uses iOS 7. My question is: do I need to upgrade my device? If not, what should I do? I do not wish to upgrade my device, especially considering the bad things I've heard about iOS 8.
    Feedback would be welcome ASAP.

    You don't need to update to iOS 8 to use Find My iPhone.  If you haven't already tried, go to Settings>iCloud>Find My iPhone and turn it off, then reset your phone (hold the sleep/wake and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release).  After it restarts, turn Find My iPhone back on and see if it works properly now.

  • Hi, I have quick question about use of USEBEAN tag in SP2. When I specify a scope of SESSION for the java bean, it does not keep the values that I set for variable in the bean persistent.Thanks,Sonny

    Make sure that your bean is implementing the serializable interface and that
    you are accessing the bean from the session with the same name.

  • Quick question; Use of static{}

    Other than knowing it is useful to enable object interaction with methods outside of main, I have never come across
    public static char[] chars;
    public static String charArray = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789";
    static {     // Code in question

    Thank you jverd, I learned something about Java today. I ran the code and my only question is why would the JVM begin initiating Main code, then the second static initializer, then the remaining Main statement?There's only one static initializer. And one instance initializer. The static initializer is executed once, when the class is loaded/initialized. The instance initializer is executed whenever we create an instance (e.g. new Foo()).
    If we execute java -cp . Foo on the command line, we're telling the JVM to execute the main() method in class Foo.
    The JVM has to load and initailize the class before it can use it. This is when the static initializer is run. ("static init"). It does this once for the class.
    Now that it has loaded the class, it can call the main() method. The first thing this method does is print out "main, foo1".
    Next we crate a Foo object. When we create an object, we specify a constructor to execute. Immediately before that constructor, any instance initializers execute ("instance init"). This happens once for each object we create. Then the c'tor body is excuted ("constructor").
    Now we print "main, foo2", then create another Foo object, which once again runs the instance initializer and the constructor.
    I know Main is a thread but would that be the reason?Eh? There's no Main in the code I provided. There's a method called main, not Main, but it's a method, not a thread. All code in Java runs inside a thread, even if you don't explicitly create or start any threads.
    I don't really understand your question.

  • Which view object classes should be used by managed bean in ViewController?

    I just like to find out which java implementation classes created for a view object should be referenced in a managed bean on the UI side.
    For my view object InfoVO, I can create the following classes:
    View Object class: InfoVOImpl
    View Row class: InfoVORowImpl
    View Row Client Interface: InfoVORow
    View Row Client Class: InfoVORowClient
    Currently, I use InfoVOImpl and InfoVORowImpl in my managed bean so that I can use the getter methods conveniently to access the attributes with proper data types.
    I am not sure when I should use InfoVORow and InfoVORowClient instead of InfoVORowImpl.
    What are the context and reasons for using InfoVORow or InfoVORowClient instead of InfoVORowImpl?

    Hi,
    all of these are wrong. If you want to access a method exposed on a ViewObjectImpl class, the you expose the method as a clientMethod (or clientInterface) in the Java options for the View Object (or Application Module if the method is on AMImpl). You should avoid using implementation classes directly in the managed bean. If you need to access a View Object, use its interface ViewObject. If you need anything more specific than that, expose a method on the client interface after which you can access it through the binding layer.

  • Which object should i use ?

    Hi,
    I have a methode that returns several values of different types. Which objet should I use to return these values ? I thought of Vector but somebody told me that there is a better object than Vector.
    thanks for your help !
    Tex

    First, always use an interface over an object if it exists. So, your code should always declare the instance variable as List, not ArrayList or Vector or LinkedList. This allows the implementation to be optimized for the task at hand (e.g. LinkedList for arbitrary insertions or deletions of data, ArrayList for better Iterator performance, etc.) while using the interface for the common List methods (e.g., get(), add(), remove(), iterator(), etc.)
    Second, avoid Vector. Sun specifically states in the Collections tutorial that ArrayList is preferred over Vector.

    Not in the Safari browser she can't. That is not supported on the iPad. There are other mobile browsers that do have that functionality - one is iCab Mobile.

  • Question about efficiency, should i use hashmap?

    Hi all
    i read a csv file and store each line's data into a class MyData.
    this class contains a variable of id - unique for object.
    i want to store all my MyData object in a collection for later use.
    if i want to access them in the fastest way, should i store my objects in a hashmap, and the key value would be their id?
    like -
    HashMap hashmap = new HashMap();
    MyClass mc1 = new MyClass(1); //id =1
    MyClass mc2 = new MyClass(4); //id =4
    //i add the objects
    hashmap.put(mc1.getID(),mc1);
    hashmap,put(mc2.getID(),mc2);
    //then when i want to get a certain object, where id is 4:
    MyClass mc = hashmap.get(4);should i use other collection? or is it fine that way?
    Thanks!

    don't worry about microoptimisations like selecting a collection class based on how fast it is unless and until you have written evidence that the class you had initially chosen was the sole reason for unacceptably poor performance (which will hardly ever matter, the only time I've ever encountered that was with an ancient web application making extensive use of Vector, where switching to ArrayList made it an order of magnitude faster).Hmmm... I do diagree with that statement, but then again I'm an old f@rt... I cut my teeth on the gory gizzards of all manor of data-structures, and I still believe that selection of the "correct" data structure(s) is a core implementation issue... especially where efficiency is (even occasionally) desirable.
    I haven't seen the same big gains when replacing Vector with ArrayList... in fact, I've only seen a very marginal (<10%) increase in "overall" throughput... I have seen a couple of orders of magnitude (or thereabouts) increase when I swapped a Vector<Integer> for an int[], but that was in the inner-loop of an inherently n^2 (I think) spatial algorithm.... and I also made it reuse the int[], instead of creating, growing and throwing away the vector every time through the outer loop. Malloc is expensive ;-)
    I'd be interested to hear more details about under the conditions under which ArrayList is 10 times faster than Vector, because I do a lot of work on a 1.3/1.4 era codebase, which is full of Vectors and HashTables... and I would like to be able to make a case for an en mass replacement (and generifying) of the "old school" datastructures... but alas, I see very little bang for our buck, so I just bite my toungue and continue using Vectors, even in new code, because so many existing "helpers" take a (explicitly) Vector parameter.
    I heard a "rumor" somewhere (probably a thread here) that there's talk of discontinueing support for non-generic collections in 1.7, because they (the API/VM developers) are having to (sort of) maintain two divergent versions of every collection related thing... and nothing annoys a developer more than that, right... so Please can anyone confirm or repudiate this "rumour".
    Cheers. Keith.
