Should I use the Amplify HUD to reduce peaks in WaveForm

I am using Audition CS6 on a Windows PC.
I bring a mono .wav file of voice and audience sound into the waveform editor.
I am attempting to reduce the level of spikes before using the Hard Limiter to increase the overall volume.
I select a number of cycles encompassing the spike and then do a Shift I or O to get a zero crossing selection.
I go the amplify HUD and drag left to decrease the db level of the spike.
After releasing the mouse left button (drag is finished), I have noticed that the leading and trailing cycles increase a noticible amount of gain where the middle cycles remain at the level when I released the mouse button.
If I repeat the selection process and increase the db level, now the leading and lagging cycles loose a bit of gain just after I release the mouse button.
I am new at using Audition, just learning about it. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?
Thank you for some enlightenment.

If you want to reduce the peaks in a voice recording, don't just select small sections, select the whole file. If you don't do this, then all sorts of strange things will happen at the transitions between the selected and non-selected regions. And no, don't use the HUD...
When it's set correctly, the limiter won't touch the sections below the peaks. Accordingly, there is one other important thing you should do first before applying it, and that is to normalize your file so that the peaks hit 0dB. If you don't do that, then you won't be able to set the limiter accurately, as the settings are based on 0dB peaking audio.

  • "Using the Filter HUD to Search for Referenced Files" (and "Locate Referenced Files")

I am trying to follow the Help Documentation item "Using the Filter HUD to Search for Referenced Master" (not sure if there is a way to post a URL to this) and I am not seeing what it is telling me to do.
I am going to Edit > Find and it is telling me to "Click the Filter HUD button beside the search field in the Browser". Is this referring to a browser in the Aperture UI or is this in the Filter HUD display? I am not finding this.
Also, it saying that in the Filter HUD I should "choose File Status from the Add Filter pop-up menu, and select the 'File Status' checkbox." and I am not seeing this either. Does anyone know where this is at?
Lastly, I see that there is a command called File > Locate Referenced Files and when I run this I get a "No Referenced Files in the /current/ selection. I have realized that I don't quite understand whether I am running this search for a specific Project and/or whether I have to make a specific selection in the left hand pane when I run a FILTER HUD or whether this automatically defaults to search the whole database. Does it matter what I have selected in the current Browser View when I run either of these commands?
Thanks for any help in my getting this working better for me.

    1.  Just copy and paste the URL from the on-line User Manual.  Very helpful.  Are you on this page?
    2.  From the above-linked page:
Show the Filter HUD by doing one of the following:
Choose Edit > Find (or press Command-F).
Click the Filter HUD button beside the search field in the Browser.
The instructions specify ONE of the following.  Your question indicates to me that you are trying to do both.
    3.  The User Manual has used the wrong term here.  It should say "Choose 'File Status' from the 'Add RULE' pop-up menu."
    4.  The command -- like all commands? -- works on the currently selected Images.  On the same page in the User Manual it says:
    You can select a group of images in the Browser and Aperture can show a list of the referenced images within the selection, including information about where the masters are located. {Emphasis mine.}
    5.  The Aperture workspace is highly configurable.  I don't know what you mean by "the left-hand pane".  Of what?
    6.  Yes.  Of course it matters.  At some point in the 80's when the GUI became standard computers standardized on the "Noun→Verb" syntax:  Select object(s), select command(s).
    7.  Not sure what the second command to which your refer is.

You will all need to be on the same itunes account ID.
You can however all have seperate icloud accounts aswel.

Yes, otherwise you will have to pay for those apps again. If an app is purchased by one Apple ID, he/she will be able to redownload it again for no cost (note: this does apply to songs, but NOT to movies).

  • Should I use the fine-grained auditing?

I need to record the changes (of data) made to serveral tables by users. For example, I have to check the before and after images of the changes and what kind of transactions they do to cause the changes. Sould I program the logging procedure in the application or should I use the fine-grained auditing function of oracle to do it. I am not sure what this built-in function can do for me. Can anyone give me some advice on this? Thks.
    A beginner

    Why Fine-Grained Auditing?
You may want to check standard auditing if it is suitable for you
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/network.102/b14266/cfgaudit.htm#BABCFIHB
I don't think you can get pre and post update values of the affected data with Auditing.
FGA is useful when you want to audit just a "subset" of the data in the table.
(for instance, audit everyone that wants to get all records from EMP table where SALARY > 100000)

  • Should i use the same pass words on my macbook that i use on my ipad?

HI...I have 2 questions...I am thinking about buying a macbook pro and when I set it up...should I use the same apple ID as I use on my ipad?
Then...does the macbook pro have Java and Flash Player so I can play all the Pogo games?

You should use the same Apple ID. The same Apple ID must be used in all your devices in order to sync data through iCloud and get the purchases you make in all your devices, for example. Also, you can register your devices to your Apple ID, receiving a better support if you have any problem.
The MacBook Pro is compatible with Java and Flash Player, but it doesn't come with them preinstalled. To install Flash, visit the Adobe site > http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer Respecting to Java, OS X will ask you to install it when you want to play Java content

    Thanks for the help.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

I am confused with text item (TATX).
which situation should we use the text item with the item category TATX????
Someone told me that the text item is dummy and should be used as a manual of certain standard item. But the manual may be a book or several papers and it also takes up some inventory not a dummy.
So, could some body tell me what the text item (TATX) exact is and what function it has.

  • When should I use the power adapter?

I just installed a wireless router. Should I use the power adapter when I'm not going to use the Macbook for several hours? Does the Macbook drain the battery when it is shut down or sleeping?

When should I use the power adapter?
Whenever you are near a power outlet. Not 100% of the time, of course (you have to flex the battery sometimes) but as often as possible.
Should I use the power adapter when I'm not going to use the Macbook for several hours?
If you are near an outlet, yes.
Does the Macbook drain the battery when it is shut down or sleeping?
When sleeping, it drains a negligible amount.

[Athlon64] Should I use the 24 pin PSU converter ?

I've heard that most 24 pin boards run just fine with just the 20 pin plug... just has long as your PSU has enough amps on the 12v for proper function. Might be a different story if you have a fully populated SLI setup though.
I don't see why they wouldn't as most new PSU's come with a plug that is essentially a 20 pin that just has a detachable 4 pin add on. Of course if you need the PCI-e power plugs and don't have any adapters for those, you may as well upgrade anyhow.

I have an Ipad first generation with IOS 5.1.1. and I have just got a new ipad mini. Should I use the back up copy of the old Ipad from Itunes to configure the new one, or it is better to configure the new one from scratch?

Contrary to the opinion above, I see no reason whatsoever why you can't set up the new iPad from the backup of the old one. Obviously you will have app updates to make and complete and that sort of thing, but if you want to retain all of your app data and device settings (some of which will change because of the updated iOS), I would certainly restore from the backup first.
If you find that to be problematic, you can always start all over again.

It doesn't matter. The results are the same. Lightroom 3.2 is Lightroom 3.2 whether you download it or buy the box.

I agree ... skip 2.0, although this seems irrelevant to your title and first paragraph.

  • How should i use the two results sets in one single report data region?

    Hi frnz,
I have to create a report using the below condition...
Here my given data  set query gives you the two result sets ,so how should i use that two result sets information in single report....when i accessing that data set query it will take the values off the first result set not for the second result set.
without using sub report and look up functionality..... if possible
is there any way to achieve this.....Please let me know..
    Thanks!

You cant get both resultsets in SSRS. SSRS dataset will only take the first resultset
you need to either create them as separate queries or merge them into a single resultset and return with ad additional hardcoded field which indicates resultset (ie resultset1,resultset2 etc)
Then inside SSRS report you can filter on the field to fetch individual resultsets at required places. While merging you need to make sure metadata of two resultsets are made consistent ie number of columns and correcponding column data types should be same.
In absence of required number of columns just put some placeholders using NULL

  • Should I use the .do or .uix file as the destination attribute on a link?

    Good Morning all,
What is the difference in using the .do action file or the .uix file as the destination attribute on a link? Is one preferred over the other? Any clairification would be helpful.
    Thank you

I've spent considerable time on this myself but from the perspective of a GO vs. a link. Why the difference and what do we gain?
You really need to understand Struts. I am just beginning to. The stuff that comes with 10g on Struts is the tip of the iceberg. I picked up an O'Reilly book (Jakarta Struts) which actually addresses why one should use an action reference vs a direct link to a page (UIX JSP or otherwise). There are many other useful discussions on the MVC and Struts' place in it.
Briefly, a link to a UIX page bypasses the controller aspect of Struts and you forfeit the opportunity for extensions/customizations etc and basically violate the MVC blueprint (See sun.com).
My issue was why do I have to do a DataAction and a forward (as all the Oracle collateral would have you do)when I just need to go directly to a page?
Struts has a class (org.apache.struts.actions.forwardAction) that allows you to do just that without violating the MVC rules and without having to create all the extra actions and forwards when you just want to go to a page without a DataAction.
Get the book, well worth the $ vs the frustration.
    Hope this helps somewhat.
