Shouldn't 180 degree orientation be a standard for all iPad applications?

I find it curious that there isn’t a de facto standard for viewing angles on all third-party applications, and that some applications literally appear “upside down,” when trying to use the iPad in its case - with the easel flap tucked in - for landscape viewing.
Jonathan Ives’ eloquent “the device conforms to you,” notwithstanding, it would seem to me that reorientation - 180 degrees - should be a basic requirement for any iPad application.
Of course I can easily flip the iPad around, but then it renders the case design ergonomically ineffective, and hence, I conform.
While not a big deal (yet), I’m starting to now question some of the premium prices, particularly for applications that do not perform an essential iPad task such as this.

Hi Steve
No you're not quite getting me. The apps (and games) I mentioned will not move at all, so essentially they appear in a fixed location. If you have the iPad turned the "wrong way," you have to physically turn the iPad 180 degrees, as if the iPad were a static device, to view these apps correctly.
The assumption here (I think, anyway), is that the iPad handles the orientation of third-party applications, orientating them when you move the iPad. In principle that's correct, but obviously the third-party developers have to develop the application to behave this way. And, as I've pointed out, a handful are not doing this. Again, I'm not talking about iphone/ipod ports, but actual iPad releases, with a premium price.
The application, "The Elements" which is more like an interactive book, is a prime example of what I'm talking about. I bought it on the day of the iPad release, and with my iPad tucked into the case, set up as an easel comfortably on my lap, the program displayed upside down. If you look at their recent release notes for the latest update, it even says "orientation now fixed." So obviously they were aware of this limitation.
So apparently, there's either not a requirement for an application/game to have to take advantage of the iPad's reorientation abilities, or it's somehow getting past without notice.
Sorry to be so cryptic in my post. I guess it would have been simpler to ask why there are some iPad developed applications that don't move at all when you flip the iPad 180 degrees.

  • How can I set a customized view in finder set as standard for ALL folders?

As I have a large number of folders, I need a specific view in finder: symbol view, sort by program and name. I tried to use this settings as standard for ALL folders, but using the 'set as standard' button does only work for the folder I am in, but not for ALL folders. I even tried to use this settings on the hard disk level in finder, but what ever I tried, it never applies to all folders. The problem occurs on each of my devices and on Yosemite OS 10.10.1. as well as Mavericks 10.9.5. Any ideas on how I can make the 'standard' work on all folders?

As Vinod says, unique key validator would be fine.
    However, In Gabriel's blog:
Performing a unique key validation for an attribute that is declared to be unique in the database requires a round trip to the database. This is quite expensive and there is a fast and easy way to work around it.Is false on several fronts:
1). it's not expensive - it's actually cheaper than the alternative
2). Unique key validator can require many trips to the DB to validate - it must check all other rows in the EO to ensure there is no duplicate, and all of those rows must be fetched into the middle tier to do the validation: this is expensive.
The "cheapest" way to do this: unique constraint in the DB

  • F2 Edit in JTable -- standard for all look and feel ?

    hi,
I use a robot to simulate a F2 when a column is in focus in a JTABLE so that user can just type without having to type the <F2> key.
    My question is:
Is F2 (to get a column in edit mode) for JTABLE standard for all look and feel (metal, X-windows ..) ?
    Thanks.

  • Rotating video 180 degrees?

I have a special need to be able to rotate certain clips within a video 180 degrees.  I am mounting a small video camcorder in a mid-power model rocket and will be launching the camcorder to an altitude of approximately 5000'.  During the ascent (Phase 1), the video will be oriented correctly.  At apogee, the rocket will eject a small drogue parachute to create a rapid but controlled descent (Phase 2) until the altimeter senses roughly 500' altitude at which point, it will eject a large main parachute for a slow descent and soft landing (Phase 3).  During Phase 2, the camcorder will be suspended upside down from the drogue parachute.
Is there a method in Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0 (or any other reasonably priced video editing software) that I can rotate the entire clip of Phase 2 (estimated at 30 to 120 seconds) by 180 degrees in order to compensate for the camcorder recording in an upside down orientation during this phase?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

If you found rotation in your particular version from the information in this 5 year old thread, then please read no further.
If you need rotation in Premiere Elements 8 as did Allan Coleman, then, for the selected clip,
    Properties Palette
Motion Panel expanded with the rotation feature found there.
If Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13, then, for the selected clip
    Applied Effect Tab
    Applied Effect Palette
Motion Panel expanded with the rotation feature found there.

  • Can I rotate 2nd display through 180 degrees on a mac mini?

    Hi there,
I was wondering if it's possible to rotate a 2nd display through 180 degrees on the Mac Mini? I don't have one yet but if it's possible I'll probably be looking to get one.

    Yes;
System Preferences: Display: Rotation = Standard, 90°, 180°, or 270°.

  • Keyboard not disabling past 180 Degrees (Yoga 13)

The keyboard on my Yoga 13 is (apparently ouf of the blue) not disabling when I open the Yoga passed 180 degrees.  It doesn't shut off until the Yoga is nearly fully folded back on itself (tablet mode).  This is a big problem for me as I love using the Yoga in stand mode on my lap when sitting in my recliner.
    Any way to adjust this?

    hi slydog75,
    Thanks for Posting,
    I personally would suggest
Going into Device Manager and uninstall the Drivers under Sensors
Then Restart the computer the reopen device manager see If the sensors are back then try the Keyboard again
There is a similar discussion about this issue as well Please Check as some Suggest was able to fix this issue.

  • CR in vs 2005 (whatever version that it) - rotate a textobject 180 degrees.

I am sure that this horse has been flogged before ... somewhere ... but I have given up endlessly searching for it.
I need to rotate a report (onto a label, in fact) 180 degrees ... sometimes. The labels have a pre-printed footer and, depending on the label manufacturers, they may be inverted. I cannot trust that the user will be able to create a custom label to suit my needs so I must use a default 4"x2.5" portrate label as my "default" label.
I know that CR only allows limited rotation so how do I mimic a text object rotated 180 degrees?
    Any ideas????

  • Using external LG monitor with 180 degrees rotated display

    Hey everyone,
I just got a 19" widescreen LG monitor and I have it mounted upside down, so I rotated the display 180 degrees. However, when I move my mouse over links, the arrow jumps a little and is incredibly aggrivating. Has anyone seen this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? It happens in Safari too and I already tried re-calibrating my monitor and restarting. Thanks.

Me too, but my LG monitor just stopped working after I installed the recent "Thunderbolt Firmware Update".
Literally the monitor was working yesterday. This morning I installed the update and now it's broken. Great update.
    Anyone have a fix?

  • When I open the camera on my 5C the picture is inverted on my screen 180 degrees. Any fix?

When I open the camera on my 5C the picture is inverted on my screen 180 degrees. Upside down! Any fix?

Have you tried closing the Camera app via the multitasking bar and seeing if it works when you re-open it ? Double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the Camera app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Rotate print 180 degrees

I am having problems with printing from SAP to an HP laserjet 4350 printer. The HP printer driver has the facility to rotate the page 180 degrees and works fine when printing test pages from the windows print server.
When printing from SAP to the network printer the page does not rotate.
Anyone any ideas as to how to fix this.
    Regards..

    Hi,
You may need to select the appropriate HP Device Type in SAP.
Go to SPAD --> Select the ouptut device which you are using (Say LP01) --> Check the device type.

  • What is the quickest way to paint a straight brush stroke that is NOT on 90 or 180 degrees?

I do perspective drawing for interior designers and do the colouring in Photoshop. Think of old fashioned painting with a brush/copic marker against a ruler to get a straight line, but with varying thickness or opacity. I would like the same effect in Photoshop.
The closest that I have come is to press Shift before the brush stroke. That constrains the stroke, makes a very neat line AND allows me to vary the line/brush thickness as I paint.
Often the lines may need to be at an arbitrary angle which is NOT 90 or 180 degrees. The only way I know of for getting that brush stroke in the correct position is to make sure that each stroke is on a separate layer. Select the stroke/transform/rotate. Quite a few steps as opposed to the one it takes to draw the line in the correct position and angle with a brush/ copic marker on paper.
This becomes time consuming and difficult once you have many lines to paint and if you need to be accurate (as with perspective drawing). If you are working on a very large canvas the point of rotation can sometimes be very far from where you are working (i.e. on a vanishing point) and difficult to see without a lot of Zooming and moving around on the canvas.
To Stroke a path with the brush gives an unrealistic and even line thickness which does not look hand painted.
    Any suggestions?
Has anyone ever used a ruler while drawing on a Cintiq? That may give the desired effect and be much quicker than selecting and rotating.

Thank you R_Kelly! Though it is still a bit tricky judging the angle as you rotate the page, your workaround is actually a bit quicker than having to rotate each line individually.
This allows me to see the line as it develops in place and I also don't necessarily need to create a new layer for each new brush stroke, if I work carefully. Very close to placing the ruler on the work space before drawing a line!
    Thank you!

  • Mount imac 180 degrees?

I have a 27" iMac, 2011 vintage or so.  For ergomatic reasons, I want to run the iMac rotated 180 degrees.  This effectively lowers my screen height making it easier to read with progressive bifocal glasses.
Anyway, I have already turned my iMac upside down using a Vesa mount (and eliminated the factory mount/stand).  There is a setting in Display settings that let's you switch the video and keep the video at 180 degrees, so I assume operating the iMac at 180 degrees (upside down) is OK? My question is this - will I do any harm to the iMac? It seems to be operating normally, and I use an app that lets me know the operating temperature.  I can also adjust the fan speed to keep temperature in check.  Assuming I keep an eye on operating temperatures, any reason this is not a good idea?

I had already done as much adjusting as I could to the monitor height and chair height. Still needed more adjustment, hence this unusual solution.
