Show InDesign spreads in Bridge

We recently upgraded to CS5. In CS3, Bridge showed the start spread for InDesign documents as previews, but in CS5 only the first page of a document shows up. We much prefer to see both pages, is there any way to get Bridge to show the full start spread again?

Hi Ramon,
I figured out the problem. I wanted to see two pages side by side so I had a blank page one. That's the one Bridge was showing and it was, of course, white.
Silly me.
Thanks for your reply.

  • Viewing InDesign5 and up spreads in Bridge

When will we be able to again see InDesign spreads in Bridge? It is utter madness that this feature was removed.
You are killing the catalog publishing business with 50 million extra clicks a day. At the very least can't this feature
be put back as an OPTION for those of us who DO have robust servers and never had an issue with preview speed??

No files seem to be damaged
I have always saved ai files the same way (sreen shot below)

  • Bridge not previewing full InDesign spread

I am having a problem with Bridge not previewing the will Indesign spread, it only shows the first page, is there a fix?

The answer is no. Sadly Adobe cancelled the spread preview with CS5. InDesign saves only single page previews into the indd-file. Actually I discuss this topic in the InDesign forum because imho its a preview image issue of InDesign (fron CS5 till now). Perhaps you can tell your story over there. I think the moderator there thinks that its just me wanting the spread view in Bridge.

John Hawkinson, I am following your lead on manipulating the XMP data. Hopefully I can piece together some kind of Applescript (I wish I knew Javascript better) that decodes the data, joins it, recodes it and puts it back in the InDesign file. If I get anywhere I will post my findings.
Neither Javascript not Applescript are good languages for prototyping this -- reading the XMP data in either of them is going to be more annoying than using canned command-line tools to do so. So you should prototype a solution using easy tools and only later look at seeing if it makes sense to do it in JS or AS (I don't see why it would be useful in JS, but maybe I am missing something).
I'd still like to better understand a workflow that requires the image previews to be in the INDD file. Why?
It's hard(er) to do that, so why do we need to? Have you looked at ImageMagick?
Even if you use AS or JS, you're probably best using them to string together ImageMagick commandlines.
I suspect that writing the data back into INDD may be harder than it needs to be.
    Michael:
So, you can see into my thoughts? It sounds to me like you're making an assumption as to the inner-workings of my head. Being misunderstood is the risk one assumes when engaging communication of any kind. It's not even possible to deliberately misunderstanding someone. You either do or you don't. Or did you mean that I understood, but deliberately misrepresented what you were saying?
We use the phrase "deliberately misunderstanding" in English with some frequency; it is perhaps somewhat idiomatic, and more fully means "responding as if someone had said something else" or perhaps "responding to the literal words when you knew their intent was different." This is what I suggested I believed you were doing: suggesting that a different kind of bumping than the one discussed here deserved different treatment. Bumping a stale post that has received no response is quite different from bumping a post in the hopes of escalating it to Engineering.
You full well know that I do not "see into" your thoughts, but I said "I believe." Of course one need not say "I believe" or "I think" before every opinion one expresses. This is implied, but I stated explicitly anyhow. It's my opinion that bumping is both undesirable and unfair, and I suppose you could disagree, but I doubt it. It is undesirable because everyoe who asks a question should have equal opportunity for an answer. No one should ever have to bump their post in order for it to get the attention it deserves. If they feel they need to, that's unfortunate, and, I would hope we can all agree, undesirable.
It is unfair because people who bump are more likely to get attention, and thus answers. So people who ask deserving questions that may be overlooked don't get the answers they should get. That is unfair. I find it pretty unlikely that you disagree with both of those characterizations.
I have some fairly strong opinions about fairness and the optimality of communications fora, which leads me to consider bumping as morally offensive. There is no requirement for you to agree with what is expressed as my own opinion and not offered as a general one.

  • Adobe Bridge CC (Mac) isn't showing collections generated in Bridge CS6

Opening Adobe Bridge CC doesn't show the collections I generated in Adobe Bridge CS6. Both versions of Bridge are on the same Mac and opened within the same User account (of the operating system). In Bridge CS6 (which seems to not open while running Bridge CC) still shows the collections and smart collections.
    Question:
Is there any way to import these collections or is there another way to show those collections in Bridge CC?

Is there any way to import these collections or is there another way to show those collections in Bridge CC?
Collections are version and user specific. If you want them also in CC you have to copy the collection files manually from CS6 to CC
Open two windows in your finder. Go to the user library (per OSX10.7 hidden by default, use menu Go with option to reveal) and follow this path:
user (your username)/ Library/ Application Support / Adobe/ Bridge CS6 / Collections. inhere should be some files with your saved collection names and the extension .filelist
Copy these to the same location but now instead of CS6 CC.
This should make you collections also available in Bridge CC after restarting it.
Be careful to depend on collections, they are not all that reliable for the long run. If you have put a lot of work in one collection then select all and add the name of the collection also as a keyword to the files itself, this way you have a good back up when things go wrong

  • New files not showing up in Adobe Bridge browser

Since mid-October all new images added to "My Pictures" file refuse to show up the Adobe Bridge browser box. This is infuriating!! I've got Photoshop CS2 and run Windows XP prof. Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks, but My issue isn't with the thumbnails..... the new folders are totally missing from "My Pictures" folder, when viewed in Adobe Bridge. I can get around this by opening individual images in the program provided with my camera, and then stipulating I want to edit it in Photoshop... but what a time sucking pain!

  • File is editable in ai & pdf but shows up blank in Bridge & will not print

I have a CS3 ai file (tri fold brochure) which I have printed in past- I made small revisions and now the  file does not show up when in Bridge or when I upload to my online printer vender the preview is blank.   The side B of this brochure DOES show up in Bridge. Both side A and B ai files consist of vector images & vector type plus raster images.  This same issue applieds to the PDF I generated from ai file. What could be problem?

Artwork is set up on a non printing layer -or- artwork is set to overprint.

  • Place an InDesign spread

Is there a method or a script that can place InDesign SPREADS into a single frame in another InDesign document? I know that I can print to PDF with Spreads turned on and place place the PDF spreads into InDesign, but I've not been able to figure out a way to do it with InDesign files other than placing one InDesign page at a time and grouping them before putting them inside a frame.

You can use the technique I Bob described here:
    http://indesignsecrets.com/easily-add-captions-to-graphics-frames.php
except that you'd create a spread-sized rectangle and then add two page-sized rectangles in it. Finally, placing each page into each of the internal rectangles.
Not so different from what you're doing now, but the resulting structure is a rectangle with two pasted-in rectangles each containing a page.

  • Why can't I open InDesign Docs in Bridge since Installing Snow Leopard?

I have CS3 Indesign. I have recently installed Snow Leopard. Since doing that I am unable to open Indesign files within Bridge. I get a very strange message that says 'missing required parameter 'from' for event open. What does that mean and can I fix it. If I drag my document to my desktop, most of the time it opens but sometimes it does not. I have to go up to the file menu and open from there. Is it a Bridge problem or is it an InDesign problem. Very annoying! Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?
Also since installing Snow Leopard, I am unable to open multiple files in Photoshop. Once again I am doing this from Bridge.
Any information would be most appreciated.

Does this older thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/486185?tstart=90 solve your problem? Apparently, some characters are not (anymore!) allowed in file names.

  • Showing indesign document in iOS app.

Hi, I want to create iOS app which will display magazines but other then magazine pages i want to create login and some other pages. How can i show indesign document in app? DPS don't allows us to code and I haven't found any satisfactory answer for using indesign document in coding through xcode.

AFAIK InDesign SDK is meant for creating plug-ins for InDesign. It has nothing to do with cXode or even objective-C programming language which is used in xCode...
InDesign documents (indd-files) are compiled binary files, I don´t think you can parse them anyhow.
InDesign can be set to save preview images of the pages, that can be used for showing InDesign document´s pages inside some iOS viewer app, I think someone has already done somthing like that... but that´s about only way I can imagine to show InDesign document´s content inside iOS app...

  • Show InDesign preview as spread in Bridge

We recently upgraded to CS5. In CS3, Bridge showed the start spread for InDesign documents as previews, but in CS5 only the first page of a document shows up. For editorial work it is much better to see both pages. Is there any way to get Bridge to show the full start spread again?

Only the number of pages to preview and their size can be set in the InDesign-preferences, as far as I can see.
To be a bit clearer: I want is to see both pages of the opening document spread together in Bridge. This used to be the case in CS3.

  • Help with InDesign spread previews in Bridge CS6

Our company is updating to CS6 and needs to be able to view InDesign files as spreads as we did in CS3. We produce many catalogs a year and each spread is a separate file. We use Bridge (CS3) to view the entire catalog at once. Now, with CS6, we can only see one page of the document, even though the preference is set to 2 pages in InDesign. We need an update. Please help!

I don't believe so. It's how Bridge displays InDesign files. In CS6, it's showing a single page and not the full spread that it used to. There is a preferance in Indesign that you can set the size and number of pages to preview. It's set to 2, which is the default.
This is a critical feature that needs to be restored. The link for the feature Request is not working, nor is the reporting a bug link.
After reading someone's comment, it appears that InDesign does not write the appropriate meta data for bridge to preview the spread, so perhaps it is an InDesign issue. Nevertheless, it has not been fixed since 2011!
How can I get through to Adobe???

  • ***InDesign SPREADS viewable in Bridge***

Are there any plans to renew this feature that was lost in CS6???? Our company can no longer navigate our catalogs that need to be set up as individual spread files. We have copywriters, designers, art directors, and production artists that all need access to our files, so we have to build them as separate documents. The magazine/book/catalog world has been completely frustrated for YEARS now with no attention being paid to this problem. My understanding is that it's how InDesign writes its preview files. The work around is to export a bunch of pdfs, but when you are working with hundreds of spreads as different files, that is near impossible! PLEASE HELP! There is no third party solution either. I feel like no one there cares since there has been no responses in any of the threads or any of the needs met.

Which version of InDesign did you upgrade from? If you were using CS3-CS5 (maybe CS2 did, but I can't remember) each InDesign file should have been generating a small JPG inside the file which is what Bridge previews for you. If you were using an older version, yes you would have to save it as a new file in order for that JPG to be emdded.
By the way, there is a new feature in CS5 that lets you choose the number of page previews to include with your InDesign. This is really handy for browsing in Bridge, but keep in mind that it can increase the file size.
Yes, you will have to do a "save as" every time you open an older document. But once you have saved it as a CS5 file, you will be able to save over that file again and again.
