Shuffle Issues

I wwould like to know if there is a way to shuffle the genre category. Right now all I can shuffle is artist, album, and playlist songs. Is there anyway to set it up for a custom shuffle in a category?

This seems like a limitation of your car's setup, not the iPod.
Does it work fine on just the iPod?
You may want to contact the manufacturer of that system and see if there is any way of doing what you want to do.
Also, can your system shuffle the songs in a playlist? If so, you could do what King Cole suggested. Create a smart playlist containing all of the songs in a certain genre and just shuffle that.

  • "skip when shuffling" issue

I'm wondering about the new "skip when shuffling" option in iTunes 5... does this apply only to when shuffling songs in iTunes, or is it supposed to work when shuffling songs on my iPod? Because it's not.
I've ticked this option for all of my classical songs, but they still turn up now and again when I'm shuffling songs on my iPod.
    Is this because
    a. This option only applies to shuffled songs playing in iTunes, and not on the iPod
    b. This option will only work on the iPod software currently running on the
Nano, and will start to work when Apple release this version for all iPods.
    c. It's broke.
My iPod is a 60Gb colour, running 1.2 software included in the June update. Anybody having similar problems, or know the answer?
    Thanks,
    - c -

OK... so I did some testing - I apparently have waaaaay too much time on my hands - and it seems that checking the "skip when shuffling" option for a song in the iTunes library does not flag the song as needing to be updated on the iPod.
I changed the genre for all of the songs I'd checked the "skip when shuffling" option for - so iTunes was forced into updating them on my iPod - and now these songs don't seem to appear when shuffling on the iPod.
Am I alone in having this issue?

  • Ipod shuffle issues

    OK
    1) When my iPod shuffle is connected, and I restart my MBP, it takes much longer to boot... I noticed this after it took a while, and I was wondering *** happened. I disconnected my Shuffle, rebooted, and it booted fast like usual..
    and
    2) This just happened today. i was listening to a song and had the visualizer full screen... made the mistake of plugging in my shuffle to charge while this was happening. Whole screen froze on the visualizer. Held down power button, restarted. Now, whenever I plug in my ipod shuffle, it tries to sync, and iTunes just hangs and the little turning color wheel (aka the Mac version of the BSOD) appears. I tried restarting the MBP, but same issue keeps happening..
When I try to close iTunes in Activity Monitor, Activity Monitor closes.. and then I have to hit the power button, and click Restart.
However, if I unplug the iPod Shuffle while iTunes and Activity Monitor are attached, it says that it was removed unproperly, and then I get a message saying that I don't have enough privileges, and then it stops hanging and works like normal...
Shuffle's starting to **** me off lol..
    Any solutions?

I am sorry that I can't help you with the problem you are having. But I have a problem as well. I was listening to my ipod shuffle and all of a sudden it just turned off. The green light would not turn on or anything, no matter what button I pushed. I then got an iTunes update and then the green light came on. But it won't play any music at all. And whenever I put the headphones in it I hear a little noise and that is it. I was on the iTunes website in the support section and read some stuff in there but had no luck at all in resolving the problem. Someone please help me. This my first day in this discussion. I just joined today.

  • Playlist shuffle issues

    Here's the problem,
Searchin for a specific song using the search box on top of every playlist kicks you out of shuffle.
that never happened to me before. just this update.
therefore, if i wanna hear a song within the shuffled playlist, I have to scroll all the way down just to find the song and continue on the shuffled playlist. Does anyone know how to fix this please?
its just a small thing, but it irritates me coz this never happened before.
    thank you so much!!!

Thank you so much for propmtly coming to my aid! Unfortunately, I have done both of those things and yet the issue remains, arrrgh.  Just for complete clarification(not do to a lack of understanding on your part, but possibley for future viewers), it's not that it won't shuffle, it's that it doesn't play anything after the current song has finished. I have to manually get it to play something else.  once I turn off shuffle it plays thru my playlist fine.  I tried to play it with repeat on (and yes repeat all not just 1....not that dumb thank god.) and the problem persists.  It's pretty frustrating and I am starting to think that maybe something went awry in my recent update of itunes.  Again, thank you for responding so quickly.  If you have anymore suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Party shuffle issue

Hello, I'm having an odd issue occur.
About a week ago, the Party Shuffle feature stopped playing more than one song. Whatever would normally point it to the next song, seems to not be in place.
I updated to the new iTunes version a few weeks back, but this didn't happen until more recently. Anyone have any ideas?

If you want to see my question, here it is.

  • Nano accidental shuffle issue?

I got my first nano ever few weeks ago. It seems it will go from my scrict playlist to shuffle mode for no reason at all. is this a known issue? thanks.

Funny. Mine does the same thing. It will be in the middle of a song, then it makes a funny electronic sound, and switches to a new song, and it's now in Shuffle mode. I only use my iPod in the car, hooked up to a Griffin Road Trip. Not sure if it's getting strong interference from an outside source? I've done the reset, and it still trips out. I'm tempted to send the Nano back to Apple, along with the Road Trip to see if someone back there can duplicate the problem.

  • Shuffle issues involving imported audiobooks

I am seeking some advice about an issue with the shuffle feature. I have imported my own audiobooks and created a playlist for each one. I have the shuffle feature turned off (shuffle arrows are grey, not blue), but the IPod keeps shuffling them anyway. I already went to the shuffle tab, while I was in the playlist, and made sure it was off. ITunes will keep the playlist in order, but the IPod doesnt want to do it. Second issue, is there an EASY way to transfer imported audiobooks into the Audiobooks folder? Any help is appreciated.

    biker bill wrote:
I too have had problems importing audio books. When shuffle was on the iPod was shuffling the chapters along with music tacks. I followed the advice above and changed the genre and clicked the skip when shuffling option. Shuffle is now OK but when accessing the audio book on the iPod the books are no longer books. When playing them on the iPod they no longer appear as CDSs. ie multiple CD books appear in the order CD1 track 1, CD2 Track 1, CD3 Track 1, any idea what I have done wrong?
You've done nothing wrong, it's just the way the Audiobooks section on the iPod has been designed...
With iTunes 8.x you have the option to tell iTunes to treat any audio file as an audiobook. Simply select the tracks, *Get Info.*, then on the options tab set *Media kind* to Audiobook. You can also set options to *Remember playback position* and *Skip when shuffling*.
Assuming, however, that the books consist of more than one file you may have problems if you plan to listen to them on an iPod. The Audiobooks feature was originally designed for books that have been stitched up into a single file and hasn't been updated to reflect the changes that now make multi-track audiobooks easy to work with in iTunes. The main issue is that the iPod lists all audiobook files by track title/chapter name so unless you rename every track using a scheme such as *Book Title, Chapter XX* the tracks will play out of sequence. There are tools for creating iPod-friendly audiobooks for which Aldo on Audiobooks is probably the best reference. Personally I don't bother with the extra effort and just have an "Audiobooks" playlist folder containing sub-folders for each author and within these playlists for each audiobook. Although I still mark the files as Audiobooks to keep them out of my main music section when it comes to the iPod I ignore it's Audiobooks feature and use my own playlists for access.
Note that I've used leading digits in the playlist names to arrange these in chronological rather than alphabetical order.

  • Shuffle issues in playlist

how do i make it so my playlist will play continuously when i have shuffle turned on?

  • Shuffle issue using 5th Gen with Ford's SYNC

I'm using a 5th gen iPod in my 2009 Ford Focus with the SYNC system. Almost everything works just as it should, except SYNC's "shuffle on" command. When used with artists, genres, or playlists, SYNC only seems to build a very short shuffle list of some 12-15 songs, which it repeats until I repeat the selection of artist, genre, or playlist. Then a new short shuffle list gets built and played, over and over, etc., etc. SYNC seems unable to shuffle all songs by my prolific artists, in my well-stocked genres, and in my lengthy playlists in one go, unlike my iPod's built-in shuffle setting.
Ford recommended trying SYNC shuffle with the iPod's shuffle setting turned off, then with it turned on. Doesn't seem to make a difference. They're out of ideas for now. Anyone out there have this problem? Have you found a solution? If so, would you share your experience, please? Thanks!

    Absolutely have had this issue.
Here's a fix (but I hate it we have to do it this way):
You have to make sure your iPod's volume is turned all the way up. The static will clear. I haven't found a way around this. The Ford system ***** for that reason. Shouldn't have to rely on our iPods running at full volume in order to work. Seems to kill the battery quicker. But hey, at least you'll have clear sound.
Lemme know if it worked for you.

  • Sony iPod Car Interface - Shuffle Issue

Recently bought a Sony CDX-GT300 car stereo & Sony iPod adaptor XA-110IP. Have a 30gb gen-5 iPod. Overall love the sound quality (hardwired 'base' connection versus iTrip's RF method). Problem is every time I turn the car on, the iPod starts with the same song instead of keeping the "all shuffle" settings I used on the Sony car player. This is super irritating having to hear this same song everytime and having to reset the thing to "all shuffle". If anyone out there has this problem, please help! Sony (Cruthfield) and BestBuy (where I bought from) were totally unhelpful. I can't believe I'm the only having this issue.

I have the same issue with the same iPOD and I "chatted" with Sony about this issue. The guy, Nolan, was not helpful. He wasn't familiar with the adapter at all. I am thinking of trying to chat with another person at Sony to see if that helps but I am not hopeful.
You may be doing this already, but what I have done so I don't keep hearing that annoying song everytime I turn on my car - I begin playing a song on my iPOD before I plug it into the adapter and then the car stereo will continue to play it. It isn't the most convenient but until I hear a fix from Sony that is what I am doing.
I also use the iPOD to find artists or albums that are buried deep down the list (the middle of the alphabet) then plug it back in. It is quicker than holding down the button on the stereo. Again, not convenient but it works.
I agree with you, the sound is great and it is unfortunate that Sony's iPOD adapter is not up to par with the rest of their equipment.

  • Removing album art work from standard HTC music player + shuffle issue

    Hey Everyone,
My apologies if this has already been posted but I am having 2 issues with the music player....
    1) is there a way for the album artwork NOT to load/display for the phones standard music player? Not a major issues compared to the other (and plentiful) issues related to 2.2 but I imagine with no album artwork there would be more available memory, and regardless of the artist all my songs (1800+) have the same album artwork ...that may be related to how they were listed on my PC but either way, I do not want the album artwork to display.
Is there a way to delete the album artwork from the phone? I know there are other music players out there, but the standard player is preferrable
    2) is anyone else experiencing an issue with the Shuffle option? As mentioned before I have 1800+ songs on my memory card but when I have the shuffle on, it seems to play only the same subset of songs. For example, the first song that came on was "Elysian Fields-Sugarplum Arches" but after that song was complete, I scrolled thru about 7 songs and that song came up again.
    Anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks!

I have the same issue with one particular album cover that seems to get assigned to a huge portion of the albums that were fine prior to 2.2 but now they are identified as Unknown.  I have deleted the album and songs that is written to all the other songs/ablums and it still uses its picture when I reload the other songs/albums.
I even have albums that seem to be correct (picture and songs match album) but they get stuffed in the Unknown album folder.

  • 1st Generation Ipod Shuffle Issues

My Ipod Shuffle 1st Gen. (The White GumStick)
Is not being recognized by itunes or even my computer.
When i plug it into my usb ports on my MacBook Pro. Nothing happens
    Ive tried both Usb ports...
The battery power is low, but it still should recognize that it is plugged in.
    Any help or suggestions?

yeah. my iPod Shuffle (1st gen) stopped being recognised first by iTunes and then by my computer (I am using a PC). I have done the 5 r's and used the shuffle reset utility but i had to do that on another pc because my computer now crashes every time i even plug the iPod in. I have reformatted it in DOS and reinstalled iTunes with the CD I received with my iPod and reinstalled the iPod driver but still to no avail. Now my PC says when i plug it in that it is a "Player Recovery Device Class" and that any port I plug it into is a low-powered port. But to check that my PC has not damaged the USB ports I tried my camera video camera which only works through high-powered USB2 and that worked...
The iPod now has no lights on it and only when I turn it on or press the battery check button, a very VERY dim orange light comes on for around 3 seconds then disappears. ???????? I CAN'T DO ANYTHING! And i really need it for my art exam on monday - we have 2 days solid of no talking whilst doing our art final piece and i need my iPod to listen to to stop me going insane...

been trying the same thing (using 2 different

your restoring process works let me know pleeezzzzee.
Have you actually tried the shuffle Reset Utility?

  • Playlist shuffle issue.

I have a smart playlist called "Holiday" as I'm sure many of us have. After my update to iTunes 11, I cannot play that playlist on shuffle. All my albums/songs are listed, iTunes says there are 670 songs in the playlist, however when I hit the shuffle button, nothing plays. If you click the "Up next" button it says there are no songs in the playlist. This is happening only to this particular playlist. All my other playlists (smart playlist, genius playlist and manually created playlists) work fine.
I have done the following trying to correct the problem. I deleted the playlist and then recreated a smart playlist using genre. I deleted it again and manually created it by dragging the songs to it, I created a different smart playlist from another genre and it works fine. I creatd a manual playlist with a different name, but with all my holiday genre music in it and it doesn't work.
Wow...I think I just figured this out while typing. I have all my holiday music set to "Skip When Shuffling" so that it doesn't come up when I set my Library to "Shuffle". Who needs to hear Trans Siberian Orchestra in July? This worked fine in iTunes 10.x, as it skipped on a big shuffle, but shuffled when I played the "Holiday" playlist. This really does need to be fixed.
    Kristy

After searching the archives here I see that this has always been the case. Maybe I didn't mark these songs to skip when shuffling until after last Christmas. So what I have to do is unmark these & then re-mark them after the holidays.  Oh bother

  • Ipod shuffle issue

the message is ipod is corrupted so need to restore it but cannot restore through itunes

Well, i figured out the problem. Apparently, the USB port on the front of my PMG5 is no longer working. The iPods both work work in the other ports and on my other Macs.
I wonder what could have happened. Strangely, TechTool Deluxe finds no hardware errors with any USB ports. I tested it further by plugging my Mighty Mouse into it. The optical light turns on, but the mouse will not move.
This *****. I have no desire to lug my computer in for repairing the USB port. :/. Well, I DO have Applecare and it expires this year. Perhaps I should think about it.
GOOD NEWS: Resetting the PRAM fixed my issue. It responds again.

I have 35 songs on the iPod on my 2nd generation 3.0 iPhone.
When I am shuffling my songs, it will only shuffle 31 of my songs instead of all 35. Why does this happen and how can I fix it?

do you have 35 songs or 31 songs and 4 podcasts?
