Shuffle songs in for alarm

Is it possible to have the iPod Classic shuffle the songs in a playlist that I use for an alarm?

Settings -> Shuffle - Songs.
Select the On-The-Go playlist and press Play.

  • Shuffling songs on a single Album

When I set Settings | Shuffle to "Songs", my iPod Classic does indeed shuffle all the songs for an Artist or Genre. But when I select a specific Album, it always plays all the songs on the album sequentially -- always beginning with the first song.
Tech support and user forums indicate that Shuffle "should" also work for a specific Album, but it fails to do so on every Album I've tried. Again, it does work for Artist, Genre, etc. -- but NOT for a single Album.
Help...? Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated!

  • Is there a fix for skipping or repeating songs, or for the voice over to come on without pushing any buttons?

Is there a fix for skipping or repeating songs, or for the voice over to come on without pushing any buttons?
I only use this 5th generation Shuffle when I run. I don't have headphone issues because I use running headphones meant to handle sweat. However, my Shuffle will, halfway through a song, go back to the beginning, play a few seconds and jump back to the beginning again. Also, when this starts happening, the Voice-over comes on again and again with no buttons being pushed. I keep the Shuffled clipped to the waistband of my running shorts, so it probably does get a little sweatty, but not like it would if it were clipped to the collar of my shirt!
Is this a problem I'm going to have to live with? I never had this issue with my old Shuffle, which was the first of the clip-on Sheffles.

    Hi punisherbv,
Are you using the beta? it's not fully secure, so try using Firefox 3 instead. If you are already using Firefox 3, it seems like what Firefox is saying is correct- the site is not supplying identity information. So what you could do is go to that exact site, then click on the little golden lock at the very corner of the page. Then, enter the 'permissions' tab and allow everything. Exit, and then try bookmarking the page!

My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

  • 1st Gen Ipod Nano  - Shuffle Songs Issue

Everyday I take my 1st gen ipod nano with me for a walk and just select shuffle songs. My walk takes about an hour, but my nano in shuffle mode seems to play alot of the same songs over and over everyday in shuffle mode. I have almost 800 songs on the nano. Is there someway of getting my nano to shuffle up the songs a little better so that I'm not hearing the same songs over and over?

I am having the exact same issue with my iPod, 5th generation. I would like to know if there is a way to change the setup so it will shuffle it better.

  • I updated my iPod/iTunes software and now I can't get it to shuffle songs in a playlist; it either shuffles albums in a playlist or songs on the whole iPod

I updated my iPod/iTunes software and now I can't get it to shuffle songs in a playlist; it either shuffles albums in a playlist or songs on the whole iPod, neither of which is what I want to do.  How do I get it to shuffle songs in just one playlist?

The shuffle setting in the main menu will shuffle through the entire library as you have found out.
You need to go to settings>shuffle this will toggle through off/song/album. Once you have set this it will stay the same until you change the setting.
Now when you start playing a song in a playlist the iPod will shuffle through that playlist (or if you select your song through artist then it will shuffle through all the songs for that artist etc)

  • How do I get to 'Shuffle Songs' after picking a track?

I am just getting to grips with my new iPod Classic 160GB (replacing a Sony NW-HD5H Network Walkman that simply didn't have enough capacity for my collection). There were a few functions I liked on my Sony that I can't seem to figure out on my iPod (apologies if the answers are obvious, but I've looked through the User Guide and they didn't answer them).
I like to play my whole collection randomly, so have selected 'Shuffle Songs' in the Music menu. Likewise, from the Main Menu I've selected Settings>Shuffle>Songs so it states Shuffle Entire Music Library. However, I sometimes like to pick a particular to play (selecting it through Music>Albums menu for example), and then presumed that after playing that track it would go into Shuffle mode from all tracks on the iPod, but it just keeps randomly playing the tracks from the Album I've selected. To get it back in full Shuffle Mode I have to go back to the Main Menu and click Shuffle Songs. Is there any workround I can do so my iPod will automatically go back into full Shuffle Mode after I've chosen to play a particular track?
Secondly, if in Shuffle Mode it plays a track and I then want to play another track from the same album, is there any quick way of getting to that album, rather than having to go through the Main Menu to do Music>Albums and having to scroll through hundreds of albums to get to the one that's already being played in Shuffle Mode?
Apart from these, I'm having great fun acquanted with my iPod. My Sony looks like a bit of a dinosaur in comparison!
    Thanks in advance!

To answer your first question, that is how it works. When you go into a playlist of some sort, either one you made in iTunes or going into an Artist list, an album, etc. when you play from that list it will stay in that list. If your iPod is set up to shuffle songs, then it will shuffle just that list you are in. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to go into a list, pick a track then have it automatically jump out of the list and start shuffling the entire library.
Unless you go to Music -> Songs which shows ALL the songs in your library and find the track from that location. Then it would shuffle the list you are in, Songs, so is a round about way to play a track you want then continue to shuffle through your entire library. But the hard part is scrolling through thousands of songs to find that one you want to start with.
As to your second question, I assume you mean if you are shuffling the entire library from "Shuffle Songs" item off the main menu, then the answer is no, you can not easily jump from a randomly playing track to a listing of the other tracks of that album. You would have to jump up to the main menu, Music -> etc.

  • Ipod quit shuffling songs...plays same one over and over

My 32gb iPod touch 4th generaiton quit shuffling songs?  Just repeats the same song even tho I request shuffle.
This worked fine previously.  Any help appreciated.

While playing any song on your iPod, tap the artwork to bring up the scrubber bar and additional controls. On the left hand side is a option for repeat. You want to make sure this icon is white (meaning it is set to Off). If it isn't tap it either one or two times to change its current setting.
    Any luck there?

  • What does shuffle songs in iPod menu as opposed to Settings do?

What's the difference between hitting Shuffle Songs in iPod Menu and cycling through the Shuffle options in Settings? I have a 5th gen iPod Nano and if I turn Shuffle OFF in Settings and then go to Shuffle Songs in Menu, it seems to turn Shuffle back on...So, does Shuffle Songs turn Shuffle on and off too? On mine, it seems to just turn it on.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi boulderskies@ck,
You may want to consult the iPod nano’s user guide, available here -
iPod nano 5th generation User Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1194/en_US/iPod_nano_5th_gen_UserGu ide.pdf
You will see (on page 6) that selecting Shuffle songs from the main menu will play all songs in random order.
Further descriptions of shuffle functions are found on page 43.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • How to turn off shuffle under music for Bold

Ever since I got my bold when I play music it automatically has the shuffle feature enabled.  I want to turn it off but don't know how.

dave7, I use the music functionality on my device so I understand the importance of making sure you have control over what is played and when. I was able to locate some information in your user manual which provides information about how to use the playlist and shuffle. Its located on pages 105-110. I have listed some steps below that may be helpful and also a link to your user device which has a option to view the manual in PDF file.

  • Use Any Song As An Alarm?

    Hi,
With the iPhone, is it possible to use any Song as the sound for an Alarm that you've set? If not, why not? I understand the restrictions with Ringtones, as Ringtones have their own industry. But there's no industry for Alarm Sounds, is there. So what would be the harm in being able to use a piece of music already on your iPhone as the sound you hear when the Alarm goes off?

Ok, thanks. But what I mean is, it just seems silly to have to convert anything, when ALL your music is already on the device. Besides, what if I want something longer than 30 seconds to be used as my Alarm?
It would be very useful if you could use the Clock app, program an Alarm for 8:00am, and have one of your iPod Playlists start playing at the time. The iPhone would then effectively be a Clock Radio; providing you with a great way to wake up to music.

  • Itunes will not shuffle songs

I can't shuffle songs in a playlist anymore. I used to be able to do it, then one day it just stopped. I clicked the icon, went to "control-shuffle songs", held down the alt button and clicked the icon, and even hit F5 as stated in the trouble shooting guide. Still no shuffle. Any suggestions? This isn't an idpo issue, its an itunes issue.
    5th gen   Windows XP

Thank you for posting this problem and solution. I had the same problem and couldn't find much help elsewhere. I tried your solutions and would offer a slight change that made it worked for me.
I completed steps 1 through 6. Then iTunes tried to sync with my ipod shuffle. It wasn't communicating with the ipod so the software was frozen for several minutes. I switched to Device Manager window to "Scan for hardware changes" and the iPod showed up under Storage volumes, but with a yellow circle with an exclamation mark in it. Clicking on the device properties showed that it was not working properly. After iTunes finally gave up trying to synce and reported the "Required disk cannot be found" message I returned to Device Manager and uninstalled the device (ipod). Then I followed the directions in step 7. to "Scan for hardware changes". Windows automatically installed the hardware, but then wanted me to reboot. The first time I pressed "Yes". That was the wrong choice. The second time I pressed "No". Then I followed step 8. and returned to iTunes and the ipod was working again. I deselected "disk use", switched to the content tab and clicked on Autofill and it worked.
    Thanks again for your solution.

  • Shuffle Songs vs. Albums

What do these three terms mean on my video ipod:
    Shuffle: Off
    Shuffle: Songs
    Shuffle: Albums
I hoped "Shuffle: Songs" meant that playlists were shuffled while albums were not. But when I my albums are also being shuffled.
    Thank for your help,
    Chris

    Hi,
I do not believe this is correct. What do you mean by "every song you presume to play through"? I disagree that there is a shuffle mode that plays album songs in alphabetical order.
