Sidecar Installation on Mac problem?

We have applied for the redistribution license and have all the necessary files ( .exe and .app for pc and mac respectively) to perform a sidecar installation.
We made a hybrid CD using toast on MAC.
This works great on PC but it has some trouble on mac.
The application requires AIR 1.5.3.
If the user has AIR 1.5.3 already installed and our application installs directly bypassing the AIR runtime installation and it works great. Code signing certificate is there and the application is installed with read/write permission for the Admin(me) and all aspects of application works well.
The problem starts if the user does not have AIR runtime installed. The side car installtion first installs AIR runtime environment and then proceeds to install our application which installs without any error but with read/write access to system and not me. In this case certain parts of the application do not work ( these parts read and write data to SQLite Database on local dissk).
I went a step further and added me with read/write permision manually just because it worked in the previous instance as expalined above. Even this did not work. I restarted the computer still it did not work.
I tried to delete system user so that our app has the same permissions as in the first case, but mac does not allow this user to be deleted.
I beleive that beacuse AIR runtime installs first and needs System permissions, even my application gets installed with these same permissions.
Now if I delete my application by dragging it to trash and reinstalll it then it works fine again ( As now Air runtime is already there).
I again checked the permissions  and they were same as if AIR runtime was already present, which is true now because when I removed the application and reinsatlled it, it keeps the AIR runtime and deletes only my application.
If using sidecar insatllation my application somehow installs with read/write permission for (me) and no users as "system" the I think it wll work.
I dont know if this is a bug or if there is a solution around this.
Please Help ASAP as we want to go live with this project next week.

Hi Harjeet,
This is what I encountered in my testing.
In the first scenario, both the runtime and application are being installed. The runtime installation requires the process to elevate, you are asked to enter your credentials. This allows the runtime to be installed successfully, but the application is also installed as part of the elevated process, so the final permissions on the application end up with the owner being "root" and the group "wheel".
In the second scenario, where the runtime is already installed, only the AIR application is being installed from the disc. If the user is an Administrator, the application install process is not elevated, you are not asked to enter your credentials. The final ownership permission on the application is the user who performed the install and the group "staff", at least on the Mac OS X 10.6 system I tried this on.

Help!!  I am getting an error message "quit application shellextlocater" when trying to install my Photoshop Elements 10.  Another forum indicated that it had to do possibly with sugarsync.... but how the heck .....???????

Well, I don't use it, but there must be something in the menu you access from the menubar icon that will let you turn it off temporarily.

  • Can't run sidecar AIR installer on Mac OS X from UDF 1.0.2 image

I'm experiencing another AIR installer issue, this time trying to run an AIR 2.5 sidecar installer for Mac OS X that is placed on a UDF 1.0.2 image (created with Toast 10).
The error in the Console when double-clicking the installer.app is:
udf error: errno_t UDFFileNode::ReadPathComponent(uint8_t*, off_t*, bool*): Incomplete path component
Occasionally, I get additional errors reported from AIR:
([0x0-0x223223].com.adobe.air.Installer[10852]) Exited with exit code: 4
Trying to run the installer in Terminal:
    sudo dtruss /Volumes/UDFImage/mine.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe\ AIR\ Installer
    results in:
dtrace: failed to execute /Volumes/mine/mine.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe: file is set-id or unreadable [Note: the '-c' option requires a full pathname to the file]
It seems there is some undesired path truncation occurring.
So these errors seem to be path related, and stem from a difficulty running the actual Adobe AIR Installer binary in the sidecar application package (in the bundle at /Contents/MacOS/Adobe AIR Installer. This application installer runs fine from hard drive, I know I've built it properly. It just fails when run on Mac OS X (10.6.4) from a UDF 1.0.2 image. The same image contains a Windows version of the installer which installs fine on Windows XP in my testing.
Is there a known issue with AIR on this?

    Hello,
There is a problem with UDF file systems found on DVDs and symbolic links braking.  The Adobe AIR installer bundle makes use of a few symbolic links, so this might be related.  Could you try navigating from Finder into the installer bundle to this directory:
Select one of the symbolic links and try to resolve it by pressing Cmd + R?  Does it resolve to the correct file?
This issue was fixed in Toast 10 Titanium with version 10.0.6.  It still exists with Apple's built in tools. When using Disk Utility or the command line hdutil the symbolic link will remain broken.
    Thanks,

  • Windows 8.1 Installation On Mac - Got a Problem

Windows 8.1 Installation On Mac - Got a Problem
    Hi everyone,
I'v researched a lot about installing Win on Mac but I still got a problem when everything seems to be fine.
I got a Macbook Pro Retina, Late 2013 with OSX Mavericks and Bootcamp 5 installed on. And for installing windows, I already got an empty 8GB USB Drive formatted as MS-DOS (FAT32). And I've prepared Windows 8.1 ISO in my Downloads folder.
During my last effort, I opened Bootcamp Assist and then Chose the options: "Create Windows 7 or later version installation disk" and "Download the latest windows support software from Apple". Then I chose my Windows 8.1 ISO location and my destination. When it finished ,I was expecting it to run windows setup. But it closed and nothing happened
When I opened BootCamp again, only the first two options were available as before and "Install or remove Windows 7 or later" wasn't.
Now ,what do I have to do exactly? (NOTE: I'm not a professional. So please answer in a simple way. )
Should I restart the Mac and Hold OPTION while booting to run Windows setup? I was thinking about it but I thought I might screw it up all. So I decided to ask it here to be sure.
Any help will be appreciated by heart!

    Hi Alcatrax,
I would recommend following the steps in this link in order to help you complete your installation of Boot Camp:
Boot Camp Help: Install Windows on your Mac
    https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/#apdecf0e4b6-b472-438d-881e-57c230b 1c250
    Prepare your Mac for Windows
Boot Camp Assistant helps prepare your Mac for Windows by creating a new partition for Windows and then starting the Windows installer. Optionally, you can install Windows using an external USB drive that contains a Windows ISO image downloaded from Microsoft and Windows support software.
Important: If you’re using a portable computer, connect the power adapter before continuing.
Insert an external drive into the USB port on your Mac and keep it inserted while you install Windows and Windows support software.
Open Boot Camp Assistant, located in the Other folder in Launchpad.
Select the option to install Windows, select other options you need, then click Continue.
Here are the other options you can choose:
If you want to install Windows from an external USB drive and you have a Windows ISO image, select the option to copy the image to an external USB drive. If this option isn’t available, your Mac doesn’t support installing Windows from an external USB drive.
If you haven’t already downloaded the Windows support software for your Mac, select the option to download it. In a later step, you’ll install the Windows support software on your Windows partition.
Follow the onscreen instructions for the options you selected.
When you’re asked to create a Windows partition, specify a partition size. If you have multiple hard drives in your computer, you can select a different hard drive and create a single partition on that drive, so that the drive is solely used for Windows.
Note: You can’t resize the partition later.
If you need help determining the best size for your Windows partition, refer to your Windows installer documentation. For Windows 8, create a partition that is at least 30 GB.
In a later step, you’ll format the Windows partition.
If you are using an installation disc for the 64-bit version of Windows, insert it into the optical drive in your Mac or the external optical drive. Otherwise, keep the external USB drive with the 64-bit version of Windows inserted.
    Click Install.
Boot Camp Assistant creates the Windows partition, restarts your Mac, then opens the Windows installer.
Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!
    Regards,
    Braden

  • AIR 2.5.1 sidecar installation failing on Windows 7

My team is attempting to distribute the AIR runtime with our AIR application, and experiencing frequent failures on Windows 7 (64 bit).
The error message is "The application could not be installed. Try installing it again. If the problem persists, contact the application author. Error #0".
I am not seeing this issue on Mac OSX or with previous version of Windows.
This issue is for the sidecar distribution package - I am able to install AIR by itself without incident.
The package is a (zipped) folder to be downloaded from our storefront, containing the application and the most recent sidecar package for Windows distribution (2.5.1.17730).
The typical solution suggested for this type of problem is to scrub your system of any and all AIR files, and reinstall. I have tried this using both Windows Install Clean-up Utilities and CCleaner with no luck. Additionally I have restored the machine I am testing on to factory settings, so no evidence of AIR should exist to begin with.
I am using an admin account, and have tried shutting off UAC.
Curiously I am able to install without a problem from a USB drive or CD! The AIR distribution documentation hints that the sidecar installer is meant to be used with physcial media (CD, DVD, USB, or DMG); is it possible that sidecar installation ONLY works from external devices?
My main concern is NOT getting AIR installed on this particular machine, but releasing our product with the confidence that Windows 7 users will be able to install. Or at the very least, that we can offer a simple solution to users who do need to troubleshoot.
The install log (following) seems to point towards setup.msi being the fail point.
I have also zipped the MSI logs and posted them here, rather than pasting them in the document since there are 3 (long) files.
Any insight would be appreciated - thanks in advance.

    Hi Jian,
    Sorry for the delay.
We're generally a Mac house, so there's only the one Win7 machine that we test on. However we did send the app out for testing, and had similar results on some (but not all) of their Win7 environments.
Where should I send the app?

  • Sidecar installation with Adobe AIR 1.5.3

    Hi all,
I'm having some difficulty with a sidecar installation with AIR 1.5.3. I've followed the steps in the runtime redistribution pdf (especially the section "Using the bundled runtime installer") but no luck yet. Here's my scenario:
    1. Building the application with the 3.4 flex sdk (the distribution says that Adobe AIR 1.5.2 is included with the 3.4 version of the flex sdk)
    2. Downloaded the AIR_Mac_installer_files.dmg from http://www.adobe.com/products/air/runtime_distribution3.html.
    3. Renamed the installer to match my application's name.
    4. Created a .airinstall.cfg file which included my application's name.
    5. Double clicked on the installer file, but I don't get anything. No prompt for installing the AIR application.
This is running on MAC OSX 10.5.7. My "bundled runtime installer directory" looks like:
    -rw-r--r--  1 seanoshea  staff       16 Dec 14 18:26 .airinstall.cfg
    drwxr-xr-x  3 seanoshea  staff      102 Dec 14 17:38 Eye-Fi-Center Installer.app
    -rw-r--r--  1 seanoshea  staff  3171146 Dec 14 18:21 Eye-Fi-Center.air
Any ideas on where I'm going wrong here?
    Sean

    Hi there Ted,
In summary, there are three scenarios which I'm testing on each platform:
    1. Installation of the application where the user does not have an AIR runtime previously installed.
    2. Installation of the application where the user has an AIR runtime installed.
    3. Installation of the application where the user has an AIR runtime installed and has a version of our application installed too (basically this is the update scenario)
I have a bootstrapper application which will be invoking the installer, so I understand I do not need to rename the Adobe AIR installer .exes or .app files.
On Windows XP, the command I'm invoking is shown in Picture 4.png. Basically, I'm invoking the AdobeAIRInstaller.exe file, passing a -silent flag and the name of the application I'm trying to install. This command works fine for scenarios 1 and 2 above. However, if I use this command when I try to update an existing application, I get this error:
Starting silent x1 install from file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/Desktop/air/Eye-Fi%20Center.air
    UI SWF load is complete
stateRunningAppInstaller: appinstaller -runtime C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\AIR1C.tmp -silent -withRuntime -url file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Administrator/Desktop/air/Eye-Fi%20Center.air
App installer failed; exit code 9
    begin quitting
The permissions problem I was running into in my previous post on Windows Vista is a false alarm. I wasn't running the cmd application with admin rights (despite the fact that I was logged into the OS as an admin). Running cmd.exe as an admin solved that issue.
So, I'm only stuck on the update scenario. Same thing happens on mac when I try to install on a system where Adobe AIR is already installed and the application is installed too. The .airinstall.log file shows:
Starting silent x1 install from file:///Users/seanoshea/Downloads/center-mac/Eye-Fi%20Center.air
    UI SWF load is complete
stateRunningAppInstaller: appinstaller -runtime "/Users/seanoshea/Downloads/center-mac/Adobe AIR Installer.app/Contents/Frameworks" -silent -withRuntime -url file:///Users/seanoshea/Downloads/center-mac/Eye-Fi%20Center.air
App installer failed; exit code 9
    begin quitting
    The .airappinstall.log shows:
Starting silent app install of file:///Users/seanoshea/Downloads/center-mac/Eye-Fi%20Center.air

  • Installation on Mac was a mess

I am receiving messages every day encouraging me to update Thunderbird on my Mac but I'm really concerned to do it. A few weeks ago I did indeed do an update (31.3.0) and it was such a stuffup that I'm currently very wary of any new ones. The problem on the last update was that it wouldn't download emails (hello!) and it took me two full days to sort out, basically trashing the new update and installing an older one, then tweaking it to get me email archives back. Has anyone done the latest 31.4.0 installation on Mac and not been screwed up?

20 Million people dd the upgrade V2 to V3 a few had a problem, asking if anyone else has done an upgrade successfully is akin to asking if anyone else breaths. Yes they have, and no they had no issues. Does that do anything for you. No it does not.
Does the Yosemite update work for everyone? No it does not.
The past issue you describe sounds like an anti virus/ Firewall issue. Unfortunately I do not have a crystal ball to look into your past to determine what the issue was, but all I can say almost certainly is that as you never determined what the issue was you have not fixed it. v Next update you do the issue will return, and no fault of the software.

  • Air 2 Native App/Sidecar Installation Error

We have a Flex 3.5/Air 2 application that uses native processes.
I exported my release build to MyApp.air and used ADT to create MyApp.exe.
As a test, I am calling the following function when I click some text on the main UI to be sure I am able to use native process in the extendedDesktop profiled app:
    private function openFile():void
    var testfile:File = new File("C:/procexp.exe");
    testfile.openWithDefaultApplication();
When I install the app from MyApp.exe this works exactly how it should - procexp.exe runs.  However, we will be distributing this app to clients "in the field" that will not necessarily have an Internet connection needed to upgrade/install Air 2.0.  So, we need to use the bundled runtime installer.
I have downloaded the bundled runtime installer and set it up with our app following the instructions here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/redist/WS485a42d56cd19641-70d979a8124ef20a34b-8000.html#WS 485a42d56cd19641-70d979a8124ef20a34b-7ffc
Following those instructions, I can install Air 2 with the App if I reference MyApp.air in .airinstall.cfg.  The problem is that native processes are not allowed unless you install from the exe.  So, my test above fails.  When I try to install Air 2 and my App referencing MyApp.exe in the .airinstall.cfg I get the following error:
"The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author."
I need to be able to do the sidecar installation with MyApp.exe.  Is this possible, and if so, how do you set this up?

    Hello,
Unfortuantely we don't have support for sidecar installs with native installers at this time.  I've seen this come up before but when I searched the ideas.adobe.com site I couldn't find a specific feature request.  We are aware that there is interest in this feature, but I'd like to encourage you to add a post to the ideas.adobe.com page and let others know so we can vote on it.

Do i need to backup my information before installation of Mac os x lion? I know I should always back up, but what i'm asking is will my information be there, or is it a totally clean install? Will my information have to be transfered?

When I installed Lion all of my files were intact and where I left them, and I did not back up my Mac, however having seen some of the problems some people are coming across when installing Lion I would recommend backing up before you install (just to be on the safe side).
    Hope this helps!

  • Native Application installer for mac

    Hi all,
I am using Flash Builder 4.5 and adobe air 2.7
I want to bundle Adobe Air Installer along with my application(.app file ) for mac. I followed the instructions mentioned in the link
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/redist/WS485a42d56cd19641-70d979a8124ef20a34b-8000.html#WS 485a42d56cd19641-70d979a8124ef20a34b-7ffc
But with the .app file, I am getting the message
"The application could not be installed because the installer file is  damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application  author."
then i checked with .air file and it works fine.
Is there any limitation with .app files? If yes, then what we should do to bundle the .app with adobe air installer.
Any suggestion in this regard would be great.

    Hi guidolal,
Are you facing the issue with any pdf's on the Mac.
Have you tried downloading a sample pdf like any Adobe help file from the website and then check if you are able to launch it fine via Reader?
    Regards,
    Rave

  • Sidecar installation Linux

Working on the sidecar installation again (the search of the forums doesn't show my previous post regarding this: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/751340) this time I have to make a Linux variation.
I got multiple issues regarding the installer:
    1. How do I get feedback from the installer if there is something wrong (eg. Cannot find air file etc.)
    2. If I put ../ inside the .airinstall.cfg the installer does not work although the file is there. If I move the file next to the setup and remove the ../ the installation works.
    3. On a fresh ubuntu 64 installation the setup gives a warning: "no such file or directory" disregarding the path. (is this construction 32-bits only?)

Well I discovered the problem regarding 64-bits, the Sidecar installation does not support this (should give nice error is my opinion).

THERE IS SOMEONE CAN HELP ME...? THANKS :-)

What kind of problems, viniade? You didn't say.
If it's internet problems, a connectivity problems could be related to the hosts file, which is in red.
If it's printer problems, could be the failed Brother printer background process loading failure.
As far as John Galt's reply is concerned, I agree with him on the Geneio problem. I've never heard of it but after I looked it up it's apparently a real problem-causer with lots of Mac users:
    https://encrypted.google.com/#q=genieo+mac+problems
And as far as CleanMyMac is concerned, I use that myself & I've never had any problems. HOWEVER, I stick with the software makers' default cleaning procedures. Because OS cleaners, when you get into areas that you're not sure of, just do what you tell them to do. And if you're not sure of what you're doing & you go exploring & pick some cleaning procedure that you're doubtful of but despite your doubts you run them anyway, and you're wrong, then guess what..... a lot of times it's reinstall from a backup time, or even reinstall a whole OS all over again time. IF you're lucky, and IF you learned something. So lesson learned for you there, eh?
In my experiences with people who know just enough to be dangerous (and yeah..... been there myself decades ago with both Windoze from 3.1 to 7, & Mac's OS, so done dat, learned), a lot of those folks download apps & programs & utilities that're advertised as miracle cleaners. Problem is, it seems like that the more they hype, the more likely you are to get a bunch of crap also installed if you're not paying attention to EVERY SINGLE installation dialogue that pops up in succession. Those things are written so that stuff gets installed that you really don't need, which you'll miss because they're writtent to BE missed & zoomed right on by, but which benefits the company plenty, sometimes to your Mac's detriment & sometimes to your Contacts' detriment (emailed spam), if they get into that database. Those kinds of "helpful" cleaners are in fact hackers' semi-Trojans, aka malware, spyware, adware, etc etc.
So having said that, I'd recommend dumping your "TuneUpMyMac" app for at least the time being, until you get your Mac back up & running well again. And then, think twice about reinstalling it. Generally, in my experience, cleaning out the caches is all that's usually necessary to do as far as cleaning is concerned, aside from what should be ordinary tidiness & organization of your personal stuff on your HDD.
Not knowing your level of expertise, I'll go ahead & suggest something I use whenever my Mac starts getting flakey: Applejack.  It's a fixit utility that's run in single-user mode (Command-S at startup chime, type in "applejack" at the prompt).  You can download it from here: http://applejack.sourceforge.net
Currently, the Applejack makers don't have a version for Mavericks, but their latest version 1.6 runs in my own Mavericks just fine. The biggest culprit I've found thru using Applejack to most minor problems, like persistent beachballing for example, is clogged-up cache files. Applejack dumps them all, System & User caches. I should point out though that in Mavericks, Applejack may not be able to find your User folder when it asks if you'd like to clean out any User's cache folders. If that's the case, just *accurately* type out your own User folder's path: Users/yourusername and press Enter.
Good luck to ya. And remember, if in doubt, RESEARCH WHAT YOU WANT TO DO UNTIL YOU'RE NOT IN DOUBT.  Then, with *learning* in mind, do what you WERE unsure of.
But nontheless, make sure your Mac's backed up first AND that your restoring-from-backup apps work like they're supposed to work, using the backups that were created with those same apps, whether it's Time Machine or, say, Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • Installer/Software Update problems

I am having problems with installing or updating some software. When I try to start the installer, it acts as though it is going to work: the icons in the dock move to make room for another icon but then move right back and close the gap. The installer never runs long enough to generate or change the display. This has happened with three different software packages: iMacEFIUpdate1.3; Kodak EasyShare v 6.0.2; and Parallels-Desktop-5582-Mac-en-ND.
I talked to Kodak about the problem. All they wanted to do at first was help me download the installer. After I convinced them I had a good download, they sent me a CD containing the software. Same result - no installation.
The problem with the iMacEFIUpdate1.3 happened today. It was part of a group of six updates and I was not at the computer while the updates were being downloaded and installed.
Other software updates and installations have worked with no problems.
I have repaired permissions, but did not start from the installation disk. Could this be the problem?
I am at a loss as to what to try next. Does anyone have a solution?

Easyshare 6.0.2 when downloaded from Kodak is a standalone installer Application, not an installer package ....it can't be opened directly by "Installer" but should simply run on its own when double-clicked. I imagine that the Kodak supplied CD version is exactly the same.....
ctrl-click on the easyshare installer, choose 'get info' , in the 'Kind' section it will likely say "Application - Universal" If so, then that explains why 1: Installer won't open it, and 2: why there's no 'open with' dialogue for it.
The previous system should be ( just as your Console message said...) in HD/Previous Systems.localized/Previous System 1/ It's not normally invisible.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120 explains how the Archive and Install works, I don't know offhand why some people get Previous Systems.localized rather than plain 'Previous Systems' but it doesn't seem uncommon.
Apple say "Don't install older versions of Mac OS than what comes with your computer" so I wonder if that might cause you problems later? Certainly something seems off here ( the default application for anything shouldn't be pointing at something in the Previous System )
Anyway, assuming you're gonna soldier on for now with Tiger on a Leopard-shipped Mac.... I guess that leaves the Easyshare installer not working? If you've double-clicked the Easyshare installer, it bounced in the Dock, and nothing more happened; there might be something in the Console log explaining why.... or a crash log for it in /Users/BigBob/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
try the Easyshare installer app again - & look at the console log for clues while you do it.
