key figures are very important in tables, when it is in cube it act as dimensions
for the reporting purpose see this scenario
the table has following fields
student no
student name
student attendance
student mark
in this scenario when we want report according to student no its normal we would get, but when we want according to attendance,marks we dont get report according to attendance and mark, so we put all those fields in key fields.
So we could say that Key fields are the dimensions and according to this we get reports

Hi All,
As per my requirement, i have to add few new key fields in an existing table.
Now total number of key fields are 17, but while saving this is giving me an syntax error stating 'According to SAA standard key fields cannot be more that 16'.
I s there any other go? i can not reduce the number of key fields.

Hi,
In the se11 transaction,In the menu bar o like this.
Utilites-->Database Utility and the Press the button Activate and Adjust Database.
Note:
Make sure that you total data in the table to be downloaded into ur system.
As ctivate and Adjust Database makes data to be deleted.

Adding 2 new fields as Primary Key field in a Z Table which is existing PRD

Hi Friends,
I have to add two new fields as primary key fields in a Z TABLE, which is existing in Quality and Production Systems with Data.
If I incorporate these two new fields (Primary Key fields) in development and if the TR is moved to Quality and Production sytems, is there any possibility of loss in data will happen at Quality and Prd systems?
At present, Table is having 20 fields with 2 primary key fields and i have to add 2 more primary key fields.
I have checked in SCN and not find relevant threads.
Please help me out.

NO . It wont be a problem .
For ex :
If you have VBELN , POSNR are key fields now , you have an unique reord with that combination .
If you add one other field in it fo ex VKBUR then records will be like this
VBELN     POSNR     VKBUR   MATERIAL   QTY
10020      10                            abcxyz      1
10020      10            1234        abcxyz     1
So your previous records before adding new primary keys , will have new fields balnk , and the new records will have data filled up in all primary key fields .
However , if you try to update the existing records that will be in existing PRIMARYKEY combination only .
for example if you try update record 1 above with VKBUR value 85858 , it creates a new record , it wont be updated in existing record.

Changing Non key field to Key field in a custom table

Hello Abap gurus:
I have a requirement in which i need to change a non key field in my custom table(Z TABLE) to key field.
For example; i have field sequence as
field 1 key field
field 2 key field
field 3 key field
field 4 non-key field
field 5 non-key field
field 6 non-key field
field 7 non-key field.
i want to change field 7 as key field.
Can i do perform operation??
when i am tryingto perform bove operation it is taking long time to get the table activated.
Could any one please help me in getting this resolved.

Use DB Utility (se14) to perform alter table or conversion. The latter is used when atemps to perform first operation fails. Which one is used, really depends on system and current DB table state (i.e. if has any content and what is being adjusted).
The way Max suggested is similar to [conversion process|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/cf/21f1b8446011d189700000e8322d00/content.htm] which system takes care of itself.
Refer [Adjusting Database Structures|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/cf/21f1ab446011d189700000e8322d00/content.htm] and already given link to conversion.
Please also consider potential errors while doing conversion . This can lead to data loss, so you should think of some backup to prevent that.

There are two restrictions on the key fields while creating a table.
1) The maximum number of keys in a table can be 16
2) The maximum length of the key fields can be 120.

Adding a new key figure to Info Cube

Can I add a new key figure to an existing Info cube in which data is loaded?
Assume that In Info Cube we have the following.
Stu Id -- Characteristic
Maths , Physics , Chemistry -- Key figures
These are the info objects which are already available and transfer rules are already available for the same in the infosource.
Could any one let me know how to add one more new key figure (total ) , which is the sum of the three marks to the Info Cube and populate the data in to the same.
I have tried the following steps , but could not get the solution.
1). Create a new key figure info object (total).
2). Add the same to the communication and pull the same into transfer rules of the existing info source and activate the same.
3). Add the new key figure to the info cube.
4). Open transfer rules for the info cube and change the mode from NO updation to Addition for the particular key figure (total).
When I perform the 4th step it is giving a red symbol beside the key figure in update rules and I'm not able to activate the same.
Any help on how to add key figures to update rules and transfer rules is highly appreciated and points would be assigned.

1.add new Keyfigure to Infocube.
2.Go to Update rules> go to update type of that Keyfigure>selct formula in update method>create new formula>here you can add up your 3 keyfigures-->OK.
activate update rules and InfoProvider.Check all are active or not..
by using Export generate datasouce ,you populate data(historical data) to new keyfigure as well.Then you have to delete historical data requests.
or iyou can create formula in query designer as well as srinivas suggested.that would be better option.

How to delete a key field in a Transparent table

Hi,
I have created a Transparent table Zemployee in which there are 4 fields ( id, name, job, hiredate). I intend to make primary key consists of 2 fields (id, name) but by mistake I have included job field as well.
Now I want to change job field from a key field to non-key field, I use SE11 to display the maintainance of the Zemployee table, unmarked the key label column on job field then I save and activate the table but the system fail to activate the Zemployee table.
So now, what shoul I do to solve this problem ?

I have tried again and it work well ( use SE14 as you talk). and now I make job field become key-field again and use se11 to change it to non-key field and it work well too. So I think the problem maybe at the network or somethings else.

Default Primary Key Field of any database table

I am working on a database in which the data in the tables is generated from some other modules. I have to add, view and update functionalities to this table in the database. Unfortunately there is no primary key field for the table i am working on and as some existing modules are using this table i am not allowed to change the design of the table at this stage.
Without primary i think its not possible to do updates. Because if all fields can have their values changed, then there will be a breakdown if the field value changes in the mid time when i had already retrieved the data to show on the screen, but not yet updated the value in the database. I hope you understood my problem.
Please suggest solutions. I am not sure, but i think i read somewhere that every table created has a default primary associated whose value is always incresing with a new addtion of recored and its value never decreases. But i am unable to recollect the field name...i think it is some thing like[b] OID .... But i checked there is no such field name by OID. So please help me with some alternative solution...or by telling the default primary key field name.

All the databases I know (namely Informix, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, even Access) have a row id column generated automatically.
PostgreSQL example
There is a way to read the value of this column; for example with PostgreSQL let�s say you have the following:

I have created a Table Maintance program through the Table Maintenance Generator. And for that I have assigned a t code.
I can able to create new entires but i can not able to modify Valid_from and Valid_to entries of existing records.
Initially those two fields were in display mode but i went to its module pool program and made then as input enabled. But what the vales I was entering, its not getting saved in database. When we change the values of those fields and save it, the system is saying No Data Change.
Any inputs how to solve this issue. I can not make VALID_FROM and VALID_TO fields as non key.

As you have already said that the value for valid to is a part of the key so you should not have any issues when this value is changed and the value is saved using the table maintainence generator, but in case you want to save values where the value for valid from has changed but the key is same we would not be able to save as there is already a value for the key, so if you want to save these values there are two ways 1 would either to delete the existing value value and create the new value or to have one more field as the key field like a counter so when the value is saved with a key the value is saved with counter as 1 and then ever next time for the new values increase the value of the counter.
In order to save these values use event 5 and put you code there.
You can also carry out checks for new aithorization in that event also.

Bank Key field change from database table

Dear All,
At our client, 4 house banks are maintained. The bank keys entered for these are not BSR Codes but something like 100,200,300,400.
This is not correct as we need to maintain BSR Code in Bank Key field as it is required on Form 16 A (TDS Cetificate)
The Bank Key field is in display mode. I am thinking of changing wrong value from database table T012 & BNKA .
Has anybody done this before? Will it affect my past or future transactions?

What you are saying is correct & I subscribe to your view also.
Creation of House Bank all over again seems to be one of the better options.
We tried doing one more thing & which is working fine on Development.
Our primary requiremnt is to have BSR Code on the From 16 A. System picks up the Bank key for this.
We copied the standard Form 16A & created a Z. Then abaper created a subroutine. It is like when Bank key 100 comes to Form16A, replace it with say 0098500 (Correct BSR Code of the Bank)
This helped to get the correct BSR Code in Form 16A & saved us from recreation of House Bank data.

How to concatenate all the primary keys of that row concatenated into a string and non primary keys into a different string.
Can some one help me on this.
E.g:
Itab1 has 3 Primary fields and 3 Non primary key fields and it has 2 records.

The following is needed.

Try something like this - Use an ASSIGN in a LOOP:
data: lv_PK type string.
data: lv_non_PK type string.
field-symbols: lv_str type string.
assign local copy of initial line of gt_table to <ls_table>.
loop at gt_table. " this is your table.

      if n < 4.

Just checked it, Its 255, not 155. You can have as many key fields as you want, but you can not go over the 255 byte length for the total of all key fields. You will get a warning for over 120, as it says that there is limited functionality with a key over 120 in length.
Again, this is a total length of all key fields.

Key fields in a cube?

Hai all,
If we have an invoice, in ODS, its can be uniquely identified with a key(combination of, for example, company code, customer, sales district etc.)
But how can we identify a unique invoice in Cube.
I know that the basic model of ods is table and that of cube is multidimenational. The reason why I am asking this question is to clarify how two invoices get added up in the cube. For example, there is an invoice in the cube, with some amount 50, that was loded in a previous load and if a residual invoice comeup, with say 10,in the next load. Then in the cube they shoud get addedup showing 60. Or do they still appear distinct, in that case again the query, how can it report on a particular invoice? How does the system know that its the residual of the precious one. in ODS, its by the key, but in cube by what?

Though, different records (even with the same invoice number) may be distinguished in the cube, as you pointed out, during a report run these invoice amounts might sum up. To prevent this you need to specify some other information, for example Movement Type, or Document Type, or something else. It is done very often in SAP applications. In SD you have invoices, returns, debit and credit memos etc.
I'd propose do not mix up with different by meaning amounts. I mean if you post some invoice amount, do not post a residual value of the invoice. You'd rather post 40 as some kind of reconciliation, or partial payment, or delivery etc. In this case all amount are of the same nature (cumulative) and using distinguish parameter (Document type) you can easily build reports you want.

How to add fields to Info Cube

Hi, Experts,
I have created a FM infocube 0PU_C02. It contains four DSOs: 0PU_O31, 0PU_O32. 0PU_O33 and 0PU_O43. I need to create summery report, budget detail, commitment detail report and actual line item report based on the cube and four DSOs. I can write summery report based on cube. But each detailed report is not coming from only one DSO.For example, the data for commitment detail report will come from 0PU_O31 and 0PU_O32, and maybe 0PU_O33. How I can write report based on three reports? I was trying to add more fields like "long text, ref doc ID, etc" to the cube. But it won't let me add. Can any one give me a help?

Hi,
If I understood your question correctly. You need 4 different report from fetching data from one cube and four DSOs. Reports may contain data from one or two or all infoproviders.
The easiest way to do this. Create a multiprovider on these DSOs and cubes. Create all the reports on that multiprovider.
