Silent Install Exchange 2010 SP2 RU7 Management Tools On Windows 7?

We already have Exchange 2010 SP2 RU7 running on a server. We would like to automate deploying the management tools to the Windows 7 workstations of admins that use the console.
Would a batch file with these commands work when run on a Windows 7 SP1 workstation?
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-WebServerRole
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-WebServerManagementTools
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-IIS6ManagementCompatibility
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-Metabase
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-LegacySnapIn
Setup /r:MT
How can we deploy the management tools to the workstations with SP2 and RU7 already installed so we don't have to do a separate step of installing the service pack and rollup after doing the base install?

Hi,
First, please make sure the Windows 7 version is 64-bit version. When you create a batch file, you should specify the shared Exchange setup file, you can refer to the following thread.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e3023a7f-dd70-44c5-94c8-528d8eb1a8a1/silent-install-of-exchange-2010-mangement-tools-sp2?forum=mdt
After you have installed Exchange Management Tool on Windows 7, please always ensure you install any Exchange Service Pack which is the same with Exchange server on the PC running EMC.

  • Windows 2008 R2 SP1 - Exchange 2010 SP2, RU7, 3 node DAG - Possible Port Exhaustion?

    Hey TechNet
So today at about 10:00 am the exchange server dropped all connectivity (except for ping) and was not accessible by RDP and I could not connect to the service control panel etc. (from a remote machine). In addition I could not log on to the console, when
I pressed ctrl+alt+del - nothing happened. (This is running on VMware and I was not able to to use the VMware tools to restart the server either) it had to be "reset" in the console.
I found numerous errors in the event viewer as you might suspect, namely that the server could not locate any domain controllers, global catalogs etc. Of course all the mailbox databases failed over to the other dag member and no one noticed (so
    that worked well).
In checking some settings, I have determined that the servers memory page file is not set to RAM+10MB, but it was never set anyways, in addition
static RPC ports are not set. The client was doing mailbox moves today (I am going to confirm with the client again to make sure)
My question to you is this: will not setting static RPC ports cause port exhaustion? and if so can you provide a link that says as much?
    Thanks,
    Robert
    Robert

    Rhoderick,
Thanks for the response. I reviewed several different links regarding this especially some of the ones related to memory exhaustion I didn't see RADAR events in the event log. Here is a short list of some of the events that I have seen in the event viewer.
ESE, 490 (Time Occurred: 9:47 am), several instances.
Information Store (5524) db-7: An attempt to open the file "V:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\database\E0E.chk" for read / write access failed with system error 1450 (0x000005aa):

    error -1011 (0xfffffc0d).
ESE 906 (Time Occurred 10:00 am), several instances.
Information Store (5524) A significant portion of the database buffer cache has been written out to the system paging file.  This may result in severe performance degradation.
See help link for complete details of possible causes.
Resident cache has fallen by 78083 buffers (or 38%) in the last 118 seconds.
Current Total Percent Resident: 16% (124338 of 762960 buffers)
MSExchangeREPL 2170 (Time occurred, 9:51) several instances.
A slow file IO operation was encountered on file 'V:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\database7\E0E000BB30C.log' for copy 'db-7\CBEXCH1'. The observed latency was 9737.6786
ms while performing a 'MissingFileNotification'. This may indicate an overloaded system or a storage-related problem.
MSExchagneADaccess 2070, (Time Occurred, 9:56 am) several instances.
Process Microsoft.Exchange.EdgeSyncSvc.exe (PID=2864).  Exchange Active Directory Provider lost contact with domain controller dc.contoso.local.  Error was 0x51 (ServerDown) (Active
directory response: The LDAP server is unavailable.).  Exchange Active Directory Provider will attempt to reconnect with this domain controller when it is reachable.
MSExchangeADaccess 2122, (Time Occurred 9:57) Several Instances.
Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGYSERVICE.EXE (PID=164). Error 0x8007267c occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain
    contoso.local
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._dc.contoso.local
For information about correcting this problem, Type in the command line:
    hh tcpip.chm::/sag_DNS_tro_dcLocator_messageA.htm
While I do understand that the to really nail this down we would need to setup a data capture set using as you suggested perfmon, and probably (prodump, netmon, etc) I was trying to get the client an answer.
I do have 2 perfmon collectors from last week and the week before,
to be clear these captures were not taken when issues occurred; they show some memory pressure on 1 or 2 counters with some high spikes, but in most cases all the averages (with the exception of 2 counters) are completely below the thresholds.
All captures were done for 4 hours @ 15 secs.
Page Reads/Sec, has an average of 19.433 with a max of 909.51, There are about 10 spikes over 100
Pages Input/Sec, Shows an Average of 132.981, Max, 6,695 (I realize the max is bad), I see 13 Instance's of this counter spiking above 1,000.
Pages Output/Sec, Shows An average of 38.113, Max, 5,221 (I realize the max is bad here), I see about 8 instances of spikes over 1,000.
Systemcache Resident Bytes remains stable with very minor increases over the entire capture.
Pool non paged bytes, is stable across the entire capture as well (Stable, meaning straight line)
Working Set for Store.exe, stable, straight line almost no changes.
Working set for Total, Stable, Straight line almost no changes.
% Committed Bytes in use is at 60%, stable across the whole capture.
This server does not have its page file set to RAM+10MB its set to Dynamically grow. My plan (before yesterday) was to set the page file correctly, then recapture and see if there were any differences. My problem that I have experienced here is that none
of the counters seem to correlate, or if they do its not really a complete correlation that tells me what's going on.
    Thanks for your help here!!

  • Exchange Server 2010 with SP3 Management Tools

Recently I have installed brand new Exchange Server 2010 with SP1 in my test domain. Afterwards I upgraded it to Exchange Server 2010 with SP3. On client machine (Windows 7 Pro with SP1 x64) I run setup.exe for Exchange Server 2010 with SP1 installation
DVD to install Management Tools. All checks passed successfully but after installation was completed there was an error in EMC:
The World Wide Web Publishing Service (W3SVC) isn't running on any Exchange servers in the site.  If you want to connect to Remote Powershell, this service must be running.  Make sure that the W3SVC is running on at least one Exchange server.
Of course service is running. I read this has something to do with different versions of Exchange Server itself and Management Tools. Since there is no installation of Exchange Server 2010 with SP3 how to solve this? I assume if I have installation of Exchange
Server 2010 with slipstreamed Service Pack 3, management tools installed from this installation would work.
Also does this mean that, if I have working tools for Exchange Server and SP for it is installed later, tools will stop functioning?

I would install SP3 on all servers and workstation as SP1 and SP2 aren't supported anymore and see how it is behaving...

  • Error 1603 when installing Rollup 4 for Exchange 2010 SP2

    Hi There,
I have began upgrading our Exchange servers to Rollup 4 for Exchange 2010 SP2 last week and the first 3 servers all successfully installed it without any problems.  However I have hit a problem with my 4th server.
I am receiving the 'common' error 1603 in my Application log and I have already ran through many potential fixes to this problem on various posts on this and other forums, but to no avail.
I have tried the following without success:
    Turning off UAC
    Running from elevated CMD prompt
    Running from elevated Powershell command
Removing and re-adding "Exchange Trusted Subsystem" from the Administrators group
Re-downloading the RU4 install package to the local disk on the server
Adding more RAM and CPU resources
I have watched the installation process and it seems to update of the native assembly files and comes to the "Starting Services" process, with which it appears to do fine as I have watched the Services starting within Server Manager while this has been running,
but then all of a sudden just begins "Rolling back actions".
The only difference with this server to the others is the fact that a colleague of mine had to recover this server within the last 6 months and ran the Setup /m:RecoverServer command
to do so, could this have anything to do with it?
I have installed Exchange 2010 Service Pack 2 on this server since the recovery though.
I am running out of ideas so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Schema updates should be done on a schema master or on a DC in the same AD site as the schema master. Once extended, the updates will replicated via AD replication. To narrow down the issue, I recommend you check if there is any event related to replication
on domain controller holding schema master role.
Is the schema master role in the same site as the Exchange server which you want to upgrade? If not, you can try to transfer FSMO role to a domain controller which is in the site where you want to install Exchange 2010 SP3 and then upgrade to check the result.

It is not a permissions issue because the user functions ok on the other management station.

  • Exchange 2010 SP2, Update Rollup 7

Our setup before we applied Rollup 7:
Exchange 2010, SP2 Update Rollup 6 running on all servers.
    2 Mailbox servers w/ DAG
3 CAS/HUB Servers using a hardware load balancer
No problems prior to the Rollup 7 installation.
The Rollup went fine on 4 out of the 5 Exchange Servers. On the 5th server, however, there are problems. The first time I tried to install RU7 it was about 5 hours in when I cancelled it. So I tried again and the install has been running for 13
hours and it appears to be only about 40% complete. The progress bar has been stuck in the same spot for nearly all of that time. Per an article I found on Susan Bradley site (SBS Diva) I had verified that "Check for publisher's certificate revocation"
was disabled in IE prior to the start of the install.
I have seen Service Packs take a long time in the past and I have Rollup Updates take a long time too, but this is taking a very long time.

  • Cross forest migration Exchange 2010 SP2 to Exchange 2010 SP2

    Hi,
We are planning cross forest migration Exchange 2010 SP2 to Exchange 2010 SP2.
Requesting you to please help us out for below scenario.
    Source Exchange 2010 SP2:- abc.com
    2AD, 2CAS & 2 MBX servers
    Database:- 4
    Total Users :- 3500
    Accepted Domains :- 8
    Total Data:- 5TB +
    Target Exchange 2010 SP2:- xyz.com
    Resource allocated same as above.
Now we have to migrate users along with data to target forest xyz.com keeping both setup live, as moving 5TB + data will be a ongoing process and the same will take some time.
    With the guidelines mentioned in
http://careexchange.in/cross-forest-migration-guide-exchange-2010-to-exchange-2010/#comment-14203 we are able to migrate test users along with data, but after migration the migrated user is not able to connect through MS Outlook even not able to login into
OWA. It gives error “The Outlook Web App address
    https://mail.abc.com/owa is out of date.”
Kindly let us know how to solve this issue.
Kindly let me know if you want any more information from our end.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks and Regards, Shashank Kudi

    Hi Shashank,
Do you have certificates properly installed and configured in the target Exchange?
If not, Please configure certificate and import the certificate to the trusted root CA if you are using internal CA cert.

  • Cannot install Exchange 2010 on Win Server 2k8R2

I am working in a Hyper-V lab trying to install Exchange 2010 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server. When the installer gets to the Readiness Checks it keeps failing on the Client Access Role prerequisites, and Mailbox Role prerequisites with the following 2 errors:

For the 2nd message, there is a link to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997698.aspx, but I tried that and still get the same error.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    James.

Can you make sure that you have installed the pre-requisites for Windows 2008 R2? You may run it again which will install if some components of IIS are missing...
Open Powershell with elevated rights using "Run As Administrator", and run below cmdlets to install prerequisites...

    Thanks a lot!
I wonder why the Exchange 2010 installation doesn't just install these features automatically. I guess it's not that hard to let these PS commands run prior to installing Exchange 2010 files.

  • Exchange 2010 SP2 UR8 Build number

After upgrading to Exchange 2010 SP2 UR8 from SP2 UR6 the build number shows 14.02.0387.000 instead of
14.2.390.3 as detailed in MS documentation.  Is this expected behavior?

    Yes, that is expected.
AdminDisplayVersion doesn't change when a rollup is installed.
    Dude, where's my rollup?

  • Error installing Exchange 2010 on Server 2012 R2

I have the immense displeasure of trying to install Exchange 2010 (migrating from 2003) onto our new Server 2012 R2 server. I get to the install screen when I get this error immediately upon pressing the "Install" button:
    Organization Preparation
    Failed
    Error:
    The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
     install-ExchangeSchema -LdapFileName ($roleInstallPath + "Setup\Data\"+$RoleSchemaPrefix + "schema0.ldf")
" was run: "The system cannot find the file specified".
The system cannot find the file specified

Unfortunately there is NO help on the Microsoft site about this error so I have NO clue how to fix this or what file is missing. What do I do next? I'd like to get this installed and running over this weekend. Can anyone shed light on this problem? It's
2012 R2, just patched the 15 updates that it found BEFORE installing (or attempting I should say) Exchange 2010.

  • Outlook 2013 cannot connect to Exchange 2010 SP2 server, Outlook 2010, OWA work fine. Ideas?

After upgrading a laptop from Outlook 2010 to 2013 it can no longer connect to our Exchange 2010 SP2 environment.  OWA works, Outlook 2010 works, but Outlook 2013 will not create a profile via AutoDiscover.  The first two checks go, the last check
Log On To server will not.
We can take the laptop to a different network and it works fine with Outlook 2013.
What is different with Outlook 2013 where it will not connect.

Does it work when we recreate a new Outlook profile?
At this point, We high recommand that we run Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer Tool from the folloing link to check what was happening
