Since I updated my iphone none of my music that I did not purchase through itunes no longer works on my iphone. It is weird, the music is on the iphone but in gray and the iphone does not recognize it. The only songs that I could play are my songs that I downloaded on my phone that were purchased through itunes.
Another error: When I purchase a new song on itunes it doesn't put the song in my purchased playlist like it used too. In order for me to play that song I just purchased I have to go back to the itunes store and play it directly from the place I purchased it from which is super annoying.
Frankly I am really disappointed with the constant errors from upgrades that should be "Up grades" Not "down grades". Not sure why is going on but not seems to work the same anymore. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my iphone music?

At the moment, you have two options as far as I know.
1. Just live with the issue until Apple resolve it.
2. Turn off iTunes Match. You can just turn it off on specific devices and sync in the old way via USB.

Thanks, Winston C, I've actually tried everything you suggested. I'm thinking now that the Home Sharing problem likely is related to Bonjour--I've seen several people mention this with similar (but not identical) problems. The solution that seems to work for some people is to uninstall and reinstall Bonjour. Frankly, I don't want to go through the trouble given that the iOS 7 release is imminent.
One thing that I haven't tried is resetting the ATV to factory settings. I'll give that whirl.

I've found that certain apps that I desire require a certain iOS level, so to speak. However, I have been hesitant to sync my itouch (3rd generation) to itunes to upgrade, mainly because it warns me that my media will be removed. Most of the music on my device has come from CDs which I have downloaded onto my itouch and not from itunes, so the music is not on my itunes itself. Since I do not fully comprehend what "syncing" my itouch to my computer will do, I would like to be certain that if I do sync my device all media will be removed. If this is the case, then I must persue ways to back that music up before I proceed with the syncing. If you could let me know as much information about this as possible, I would be truly grateful. You can transfer songs that you didn't buy from the iTunes store but it requires third party software such as Suneti. This is one of the best programs I know for the task and unfortunately I'm not aware of any freeware programs that transfer music from an iOS device to the computer.

I just updated itunes and a LOT of my movies and music disappeared. These are movies and music I owned already and did not purchase from iTunes. How do I find them or do I need to add them all again? Also what happened to the sidebar?

I just updated my iTunes software and have a lot of problems...
1. The sidebar option is gone. I LIKED the sidebar and it was easier for me to navigate that way.
2. Also no lists? I hate the icon way to view it. It makes my eyes go wonky and I have a harder time actually looking for what I want.

The same thing happened to me... Since two days the ******* thing keeps freezing after a while. Then I try to reboot and the screen goes white and it doesn't boot. If I wait like half an hour it boots again.
I thought it was a hardware problem, but the Apple Hardware Test founds nothing at all. I think it has to do with the software update I performed 2 days ago.

Your apps will only be where you put them. if you failed to put them on your computer beore updating, then they would certainly be gone.

Ok, sorry. And yes, I just restored my iPhone as new and tried to put all the songs on there before I even restored with my previous backup, but it still does the same thing... even when I just checked the option to sync only "selected music or videos". How's that possible?
P.S. After I tried syncing with checked songs only, nothing showed up under Music on my phone and this message popped up in iTunes: "The iPhone "..." could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish." If you could, please tell me what that means, thanks.

With the iTunes runtime error, the only solution seems to be to uninstall iTunes. If I can't open iTunes as it currently the case because of this issue, therefore I can't backup. You don't need iTunes to be working to backup the library. You do need iTunes to be working to backup or restore your device...

The iphone/ipad/ipod is not a backup/storage device. The sync is one way - computer to iphone/ipad/ipod.
Copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.

On that PC, launch iTunes. From the menu bar top of your screen click Store / Authorize This Computer.
