Since updating to Lion I can no longer screen share on Snow Leopard

Hi all,
I'm hoping someone might have some insight to the problem I'm experiencing with Screen Sharing.  I have two macs that I use - one is a Mac Mini 2010 Server model running Snow Leopard.  The other is a MacBook that is running Lion.
Since updating to Lion on the notebook, I can no longer access screen sharing through the Mac mini to the MacBook (Can't see the Lion screen through the computer with snow leopard).  I AM able to screen share the other way (see the snow leopard screen through the macbook running Lion).
It's aggrivating, in as much as these computers are on two different floors of my company, and being able to see the screen makes life easier.
I should also point out that I am able to successfully share the hard drives / files between both computers going back and forth (Snow Leopard to Lion and Lion to Snow Leopard) - it's just the screen sharing that no longer functions.  When I attempt to access the other computer screen it will act like it is signing in but just hangs and does nothing.
I know there is probably much more information that someone will need to help me solve this, but I don't know where to look.  But I'm hoping that with at least this much information you might be able to tell me where to look to get this corrected.
Much thanks.

If you want.
or maybe install Snow Leopard using the disc it came on with my Mac and just set it up from a Time Machine Backup on my external hard drive (since it works under SL)?
Did you install Lion on an empty partition, or did you upgrade Snow Leopard?  If you upgraded, I'd not recommend erasing it, since your backups are apparently gone.  It's doubtful Snow Leopard will recognize them.
It's not just backups on the drive either, there are other important things on there, so why won't they show?
Mixing Time Machine backups and other data is not a good idea.  See #3 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  It sounds like the whole disk is corrupted.
I just really don't understand how this happened. Could it not be an issue with WD because they haven't issued firmware to support Lion yet?
If this is a simple external HD, connected by USB or FireWire, no, unless you installed some of WD's software on it.  That shouldn't prevent it from being seen at all, but anything's possible.

  • Cannot backup since updating to Lion: sparsebundle can't be accessed

Since I updated to Lion, I can no longer back up to my TimeCapsule. All I get is this message
"Time Machine could not complete the backup.
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/xxxxx’s iMac.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1)."
And the Time Machine indicates latest backup as "Delayed" citing a "Time Machine error", and the same detail as above, "error-1".
I have another Mac that I have NOT upgraded to Lion, and it continues to backup to the same TimeCapsule drive unimpeded. I can't find a solution for this problem in Lion. I hope somone has an answer. I'd really like to re-access my old backups, but I'll be happy enough if I can just make a new backup.
Lion seemed great but this is a pretty serious problem. If my iMac crashes without a working backup - I'm completely hosed.

I found out that this particular error has nothing to do with Lion 10.7.1. My TimeMachine is simply trying to access a backup sparsbundle from a different account on this computer that is no longer used and it can't do it (I suspect because the data and user doesn't match up). I deleted that one. TimeMachine then tried to "inherit" the sparsebundle backup from another computer which I migrated to this computer (its all the same data, just from a different Mac), which also failed. So, I had to try to transfer the sparsebundle to save it, but it's too big to put anywhere (if I had an extra 900 GB drive laying around I could do it...), so I simply deleted it (which took all night to process) and am running a new backup now (which is supposed to take "about 7 hours"! - and by the way, the large sparsebundle is still in the process of deleting after 8 hours, so if you do this too, be very patient). Success!

YEA!  My jurryrig worked!  To all with this problem:
You CAN have podcasts in a regular playlist IF you convert them to a standard MP3 first.  So, yes, a lot of manual labor
The good news: if, like me, it is a track that you listen to frequently (in my case meditations for sleep and relaxation) then the time is worth it.  I will mess with automator later to see if there is anyway to script this!  Then, less work for me and more for my mac.
    Here are the steps:
Select the file from your Podcast folder.
Change all data you need -- "artist," "album" etc...
Make a copy of the cover art for this file by dragging it to the desktop.
Select the Advanced -> Convert ID3 Tags menu item.
Check ID3 tag version, and select "v1.0" from the drop-down menu.
Drag the file to the desktop (this will make a copy of the MP3 on the desktop)
Delete the file from the iTunes list.
Drag the copy of the file you have on the Desktop back into iTunes.
Search for the file in the Library, and add the cover art again to the file.
Now the file is out of the Podcasts folder and works like a regular MP3 file inside iTunes. You can re-add it back to playlists!

  • Since upgrading to Lion i can no longer see other computers in my network and vice versa. What has gone on?

As the title suggests! I can no longer see any of the computers in my network, Mac or otherwise.
I have checked sharing permissions on all required computers and all seems to be good and have disabled firewalls.
I notice a few people have had similar problems with screen sharing but I am not even seeing another station to pottentialy share a screen with!

  • Since upgrading to Lion I can no longer mount my external hard drive

I backed up about 10 minutes before installing Lion when I was on Snow Leopard. I know my drive works fine and there are no issues with it.
However, when Lion was installed, I wanted to perform a Time Machine Backup, but it said my backup disk was unavailable. I checked in the Finder and it wasn't showing up in the side bar, even though it was connected to my Mac and the indicator light on the hard drive itself was flashing - suggesting drive activity. I can also hear the drive spinning.
I opened Disk Utility and the external hard drive appears in the side bar and it says 'WD My Passport 071A Media'. Underneath that is the 'Time Machine Backups' drive which is greyed out. I have tried right clicking on it and choosing Mount but it won't mount, and I have also tried Repair Disk which doesn't finish, but also doesn't report any errors either. If I run Verify Disk and Repair Disk on the 'WD My Passport 071A Media' drive (which is the same drive) it does not report any problems and says the drive is working fine.
I have tried updating the drive's firmware and using different ports but neither have worked. I have also tried rebooting my Mac.
I really need to use this drive to backup and I can't format it because I can't afford to lose any data on there. Could someone please give me some advice or tell me how to fix this? I would appreciate it so much.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

  • Since upgrading to Lion, I can no longer view my previews in Aperture.

Since I updated to Lion, Aperture has been sluggish and annoying and keeps quitting on me...
However, the worst problem I have is that I cannot view the previews of most of my photos.
The files are all referenced and kept on an external hard drive.
I have checked to see if the preview files are in the Aperture library folder in my Pictures file (I looked in Show Contents...) and they all seem to be there.
When I open the projects in Aperture, the outline of the photos appear, but I can't see the images.
Does anyone have any idea why this would be and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

As a start you should update your profile it still says you are using 10.6.1 and including the Aperture version would be a good thing also. So have you upgraded to 3.2.1 yet?  If not you should.
As a start you should look at Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics and see i that helps.

  • Since I downloaded Lion I can no longer access my microsoft Word documents.  Is there anything I can do?

Since I downloaded Lion in order to use iphone 4s & icloud, I can no longer open Microsoft Word documents.

You have Word/Office 2004 and that won't run on Lion. You have three options:
    1. Upgrade to Office 2008 or 2011
    2. Download the free Office suite Libreoffice
    3. Buy Apple's 'Pages' (for word processing) programs from the App store.

  • Seems like everyday I find another program that worked on SnowLeopard, but now doesn't work on Lion.  Can I easily downgrade back to Snow Leopard?

Since I installed Lion, I keep finding programs that won't run, but which ran fine on Snow Leopard.  (Apple even eliminated MacSolitare.) How can I downgrade back to Snow Leopard?  Do I have to erase my HD and start all over?
I have my stuff backed up on Time Machine and Carbonite.
But do those backups just contain files?  Will I have to also reinstall every application that I have been using?

No they didn't, since it's not part of the OS.

    Yes.

If you have a pre-Lion backup, simply restore that backup.

  • Since updating to 4.2, can no longer get my work email

Updated the iOS today and now my work email from the exchange server will not download. I get no notification. My AOL mail is still coming thru but I cannot get the work mails, which are the more important. Any ideas?

I strongly believe it must be something with iOS 4.2, since the people at my office that has not upgraded still can do it. That is both people with 3GS and iPhone4.
We are writing the exact same information when setting up the phones. Theirs just work and with iOS 4.2.1 its displays that "unable to verify account information".
I have tried both on 3G, Wifi at home and Wifi at the office.

  • Since updating my OS I can no longer play anything from iTunes on my mac.

I've updated to Yosemite but now nothing will play on my mac in iTunes.  Other videos, music etc seem to be fine but nothing in my library will play.

It's OK.  I've managed to cure that problem, only to now encounter another one.  Can't get my mac to recognise my iPod now. :-/

  • Since upgrading to Lion I can no longer print to my network printer.

I get the error message "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/rastertospl" via http://localhost:631/printers/Samsung - it's a Samsung ML-1510 laser. Printing works fine from a Windows machine - the printer is attached to a network router, and I connect via WiFi from my MacBook Pro.
This worked perfectly before, now it doesn't, so what has changed in Lion?
Thanks very much in advance for any help and advice.

I've finally solved this problem. I used the printer driver for the Samsung ML-1510 from http://guigo.us/mac/splix/ and, another bout of logouts/logins later printing suddenly magically worked. I don't know if it was this driver alone or the restarts that did it, but I'm not going to break it again to find out.
Many thanks to everyone who offered advice, it's much appreciated.
    Cheers.

  • TS2755 Since updating to ios6, I can no longer send text or pictures to non apple phones.

I am having no luck whatsoever texting from my iPad to a non apple phone. That includes pictures also. I have disabled imessage and rebooted and still no capable. Very frustrating.

You could never text using the Messages App with a non Apple Phone. Messages only works with other iOS devices so unless you were using a third party app, you never could text with a non Apple phone. Its impossible with the built in Messages app.

  • Help, I can not quit safari or shut down my computer since updating to Lion.

    Can some one help?
Since updating to Lion, I can not quit Safari or shut down my computer.

Several ways to force quit when you can't quit an app normally.
Go to your Apple menu (top left in your screen) then from the drop down menu select Force Quit.
You can also force quit an app using the Activity Monitor app located in /Applications/Utilities.
You should be able to shut down your Mac by holiding down the power button until the screen goes black. Then restart as usual.
