Single horizontal line (picture attached)... bad LCD?

Out of the blue one day, my display suddenly showed a thin 1 pixel line that goes from the left to the right of the screen. It changes color depending on what I've got on the screen.
I opened up the computer to make sure everything was clean and dust free. Things looked fine. Do you think that the LCD is toast? Maybe a cable needs to be tightened? I have no clue.
If I've got to replace the LCD screen, it's probably not worth it.
What do you guys think?

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
I would want to run the Apple hardware test, or either of the TechTool programs, to verify if there is an obvious hardware issue. Insert your original OS X disk that came with the system that says in small print on the label 'AHT Version x.x'. Reboot holding the alt key down, choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted, choose the extended test. What you're looking for is whether it identifies any issues with the video circuit. If the issue is on the logic board, that leads you down one path. If no issues are identified, more likely it's an issue with the LCD.

  • Pavilion dv7 horizontal lines - Display going bad?

    DV7-7025dx bought in 2012. Today, on boot, horizontal lines right from the moment I turn it on. Lines are so bad I can barely see anything. Booted into windows - lines still there. After a few minutes they cleared up. Powered down, removed battery, reset bios, rebooted. Still there. Is the display/adapter going bad?

    Hi  ,
    Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!
    I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook and issues with the screen flickers and going pink and green. Here is a link to a document that will help you troubleshoot the image on screen flickers, has lines or distorted colors. Have you connected a monitor to the Notebook to check if it happens there as well? Here is a link on how to clean the fans as this could be an issue. If this does not display on the Monitor it could be a connection issue with the LCD screen or the inverter cable. Please let me know how this goes. Thanks.

  • Single Horizontal Line in JTable

    Hello,
    is there a way to draw a single horizontal (colored) line within a JTable? (reason: we want to mark a seperation of the upper and lower part of the table). I dont mean the showHorizontalLines feature.
    Example: the JTable contains 100 rows, row 1 - 30 belong to the "upper" part (according to a certain logic), 31- 100 to the lower part. The line should be between row 30 and 31, and only there.
    Any help very much appreciated.
    Matthias

    You might be able to use a cell renderer to add a border to the bottom of every cell in row 30. The code would look something like:
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.border.*;
    import javax.swing.table.*;
    class LineCellRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer
         final Border bottomBorder = BorderFactory.createMatteBorder(0, 0, 2, 0, Color.black);
         public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table,
                                        Object value,
                                        boolean isSelected,
                                        boolean hasFocus,
                                        int row,
                                        int column)
              super.getTableCellRendererComponent(table, value, isSelected, hasFocus, row, column);
              if (row == 30)
                   setBorder( bottomBorder );
              else
                   setBorder( null );
              return this;
    }

  • L655D-S5055 LCD horizontal line issue - possible motherboard or GPU failing??

    Hello,
    A few weeks ago a horizontal line running from the left edge to the right edge of the LCD about 2 1/4"
    from the bottom of the LCD started to occur.  The line shows up from the time the screen turns on
    and remains in CMOS or the Win 7 desktop.  I have replaced the LCD panel with a new OEM LCD
    panel, this did not resolve the issue.  I replaced the internal video cable, this did not resolve the issue.
    Since the line occurs in the CMOS screen (DOS prompt screen) or in Win7, there is not video driver
    issue I believe.  I also updated the L655D BIOS to the latest v2.10  Nothing has resolved the issue.
    Is this possibly a sign of a GPU issue at the motherboard level? I have noted that the space below the line does "flicker" or distort the image, but only below the line.  The rest of the image on the screen stays without any problem.  I have also attached the laptop to an external monitor which has no line like this or any issues with the display at all.  Thus the reason I had originally concluded the LCD panel and internal
    video cable.
    Does anyone know if this is a known problem with specific motherboards with this model laptop, or GPUs?
    Is there a replacement motherboard program for this laptop as this is certainly a quality issue that should
    not be left for the enduser to replace the motherboard and be charged a high cost repair such as this!
    I appreciate any guidance or advice on this issue.  I have attached two pictures for reference of this problem.
    One shows the line in a Command prompt screen, the other while in Win 7.
    [Updated: 2-Apr-2013]  based on further research and experience with other similar issues, I am beginning to think this is related to heat and the GPU impacted by poor quality soldering or some other issue of that nature.  I have performed "reballing" with other products, but am not sure about whether this issue can be resolved or how to go about an effective "reball" for this product motherboard.  A replacement, used motherboard is hard to find and if found are over $150USD.  Again, it seems unfair to the consumer to have a laptop like this for 4 years and need to replace the motherboard or live with this issue until the unit fails completely.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Horizontal lines on lcd monitor

    Hello all,
    Our less than 2 year old 21.5" Intel Imac (OS 10.6.8) started to display horizontal lines at the bottom portion. Those lines are always present at the same position. They have been gradually invading the screen rendering it soon unuseable. Otherwise the Imac is functionning flawlessly. The computer is installed in a clean domestic area with no heat source in proximity.
    I have completed the harwhare test application on startup to confirm that all components (including the graphics card) are functionning perfectly.
    I have also taken a screen capture (shift-cmd-3) and sent it to my well functionning Macbook. The screen capture picture of the Imac is flawless. This would indicate by deduction that the LCD screen is flawed.
    Is there by anyones knowledge a fix to this rather premature problem?
    Regards

    Same happended to me, just call to support center and thay said there`s no such failure  on their data base, and that i have to fix it my self, this folks only care about their wallets they don't care about customers.

  • Pictures taken with my 1D Mark IV show a blue horizontal line at the bottom from ISO 400 onwards.

    Pictures taken with my 1D Mark IV show a blue horizontal line at the bottom from ISO 400 onwards. So far nobody has been able tot tell me the cause of this problem. The body is still quite new (15000 pics taken).

    I agree that it looks like a column of photosites is not working.  But... I'm curious as to why this would only happen at ISO 400 or above.
    The sensor is covered with photosites -- they are monochrome.   On top of the photosites is the "bayer mask".  The mask is a checkboard pattern of red, green, and blue "lenses" which makes the photosite beneath only sensitive to that particular color.  They are group in clusters of 4 photosites in a 2x2 matrix.  Two of the four squares (in opposing corners) are green.  One corner is red.  One corner is blue.  If you were to lose a column which happens to be along the red/green column (as opposed to the green/blue) then you'd lose red sensitive and half the green sensitivity in that column.  The result would be that this column is flanked by two "working" columns which are full of green/blue photosites... hence the teal blue look.
    I do not know if this will work for you, but oddly... you can actually sometimes "clear" stuck pixels (but usually this is an indvidiual stuck pixel... not a whole column of them) by putting the camera into manual sensor cleaning mode (and you may have to do this 2 or three times).  While the normal point of the self-cleaning mode is to flip up the reflex mirror and open the shutter so that you can inspect and clean the sensor (really the front-most filter because you can't actually touch the real sensor), it also neutralizes the charge on the sensor (or so I've read).  This charging and discharging of the sensor a few times can often get "stuck" pixels to start working again.  BUT AGAIN... I've only ever seen this used on individual stuck pixels... never a whole row.

  • Why Horizontal Lines in IPhoto pictures only?

    Just recently began getting horizontal lines in IPhoto pictures only. Does not occur anywhere else when printing with EpsonCX6400. Changed ink cartridges, did a nozzle check, Head Cleaning, & Head Alignment on printer but still get horizontal lines on pictures printed from IPhoto only. Other items printed such as, web pages, emails, etc do not have these horizontal lines. Any suggestions.?

  • Capturing DV PAL signal - generates picture with horizontal lines

    I am using:
    iMac 2,8GHz
    camera DV SONY DCR-PC100E, which is recoding/playout in anamorfic 16:9 mode
    connected to computer via Firewire400
    When I am importing the signal into the FCP, the image gets divided into horizontal lines, that are not aligned (line width roughly 5 pixels, visable best when there is activity in the picture like panning the scene, people running).
    I have tried all possible settings:
    -default
    -DV PAL
    -DV PAL anamorphic
    -DV pal (786x576) anamorphic
    but results are always the same.
    What really drives me mad is that when importing into iMovie (06 or 08), these lines don't appear.
    Where did I get it wrong?
    Thanks.
    gs

    Thank you for your effort.
    TV is 16:9 (SD) plasma TV (Samsung), with Pioneer DVR-630 DVD player.
    The results are as follows:
    -when played from the camera directly to the TV - the results are impecable - no lines no nothing, just crisp picture...
    -when played from DVD - the lines...
    Capturing:
    -at first I captured everything on the default settings - with the lines
    -i have changed the settings to match the camera COMPLETELY - still the lines
    The funny part:
    I just did a funny test:
    -I have imported material with iMovie 08, using dafults (DV PAL, 16:9). The clips displayed in iMovie are OK (no lines, no nothing)
    -I have coppied the files (the .dv files) into the project directory of the FCP (using 5.1), and the clips, that play so well in iMovie, now have the lines.
    Again, this would make me think, that this is the Canvas problem, if he playout again (i made a test - export to QT) wouldn't have the lines again... But it does.
    I feel like I am in a dead end street...

  • Faint horizontal lines accross iMac lcd

    Had a 24" iMac that developed faint horizontal lines across the lcd that got progressively darker the longer the computer was on. Had the lcd replaced by Apple twice, but after a couple of weeks the problem returned. They gave me a new iMac, but a month in I have the same problem with the new machine. Has anyone encountered this problem? Is it an inherent issue with iMac lcds or is it something external affecting my machine? And I'm not talking poltergeist. Help, want this fixed.

    We have a 20" imac Core Duo that was purchased summer 2006 - then about 5 or 6 months ago, it started developing horizontal lines across applications (Safari, Mail, etc) and the desktop - sometimes they would go away, sometimes not... I thought is was some video driver conflicting, upgraded to snow leopard, went to the genius bar, etc... but lately it got worse to the point that it started locking up every day... this after going weeks or months without a reboot and over 3 years having almost zero crashes...
    I read in a forum where the video chip (GPU - graphics processing unit) was heat sensitive and thought that after 3+ years, maybe it was dusty in there... I installed the iStat widget to monitor the temp of the GPU and installed a fan control (software) where you can increase the minimum speed of the hard drive fan (allegedly located above the GPU). I also put the end of the vacuum on the fan vent just above where the power cord goes into the back of the monitor and let it run for a while hoping to clean things out...
    5 days later - zero display issues, zero hangs and zero crashes - and the GPU runs an average of 25 degrees cooler than before. This after a genius bar guy told me that it probably needs a new display board. Good Luck!

  • My lcd screen have a thin horizontal line

  • Help! N95 8GB Horizontal Lines on LCD Screen getti...

    I was getting a few horizontal lines across my screen of my N95 8GB. Switching the slider from portrait to landscape doesn't change the direction of the lines.
    The lines have been getting progressively thicker to the point where now it's hard to read anything on the phone.
    Do I have a dying screen?
    I've take the slider apart, detached and reattached the screen and ribbon cable connector, and it doesn't make any difference.
    Should I buy a replacement screen or is there something else that could be wrong? The rest of the phone functions perfectly fine.

    Hi calciumicon,
    It would probably be best to have your device checked by a Nokia Care point. From what you describe it might be the screen needs to be replace. The N95 is a model which has been out of production for a while though so check to verify it can still be repaired.

  • 40 inch Samsung LCD White Horizontal lines running up the screen constantly

    My brand new Samsung 40 inch tv (purchased in mid-December) has white horizontal lines running up the screen constantly.  From what I heard, the electricity in my house my not be grounded, but no other tv in my house does this, so I doubt this is the case.  Has anybody else had this issue and is it too late to return the tv?  Thanks.

    Does it do it on other sources like a DVD?  If so you may have a TV problem. Have you tried to do a factory reset or restore? Have you tried plugging it into an outlet in a different part of the house? As a last resort have you tried taking it back to the store and see if it works there? Also have you tried a filter on the AC plud in? Just some suggestions to try and help you out.
