Sizing of systems

Hi All,
We are having a landscape like Dev, Quality, Production. Generally people say the size of the Quality system should be the same of Production. Should anyone throw some light on this and also give valuable points to convince the client.
Thanks.

Hi,
well, the purpose of this QA box is to test different scenarios which will also include the load testing, stress testing. Which means that, the QA box should have the same amount of data that a production will have. This will ensure that tha behaviour of the system in QA will be the same as in the production. Hence it becomes easier to simulate the exact production scenarios and asses the results.
Some companies also have a separate box for this purpose  (staging server) . This will fit in after the QA box and before the production server in the landscape.
Hope this serves your questions.
Best Regards.

  • SAP Hardware sizing for "User-Based sizing".

    Short Text
    User-based Hardware Sizing
    Long Text
    Dear SAP Support,
We would like to know the SAP Hardware sizing for "User-Based sizing".
    Our queries is
    1. In "User-Based sizing", What we have to consider,
the number of users are calculated in the basis of
Concurrent users in the system in a given point of time
    or
total number of users logged into the systems in the whole day?
We have referred the SAP document "Sizing SAP System" and the above
    point are not clearly mentioned.
    Regards,

As the document says there are number of possible definitions for "users" in SAP context...
For understanding assume that no of users logged to the system they consume different resources / areas in the system, some login to the system whole day but they don't work whole day, some user open multiple session to work while other open multiple session but they don't exactly work on it which means (every new session consume memory/resources) like you said their are concurrent users wherein they work and consume resources (SAP WPs)
So before finalizing the sizing first compare the both reports (user based, thorhgput) and read the advantages and disadvantages for both. You can also consult with SAP / Account Manager to help you
as per SAP document there's no point in counting no of pc's, laptops to calculate no of users

  • How many audio CD's can I burn?

So, I took the plunge yesterday and bought my first music store tracks. Now have a few questions (I suppose logically I should have looked for the answers first but I just wanted to try it anyway
Most of all I'd like to know, is there a restriction on the number of audio CD's I can burn? I've read 7 in a couple of posts but can find absolutely zilch in Apple's support about this. Must say, I find it a bit of a cheek if there is a restriction. It's my music now, afterall !!! I just hope the whole point of not allowing you to burn from Toast anymore, but only from iTunes is to remove this need to limit burning?
Which leads me to my next question; this thing about only burning from iTunes now... is that a restriction set by Toast or by Quicktime? Or both? Because I read somewhere that QT7 prevents you from burning. Somewhere else I read you can still burn using Toast 6.0.1.
And finally a question about quality. This is something I've been struggling with for a long time and my library has become chaos as far as encoding is concerned. I just can't decide. To me 192 bit MP3 sounds fine, as does 128 bit AAC (Music Store). But everywhere I read people seem obsessed with seemingly huge bitrates always rubbishing these so called "high-quality" settings. So being the gullable person I am I've started believing too much of what I've read and become paranoid that 128 bit AAC just doesn't cut it.
Thing is, for a long time I went along with the old addage "if it sounds good for you..." but I'd like to start taking my powerbook out with me DJ-ing (private parties, small venues) as I'm fed up of lugging vinyl about, not to mention people who don't have record players anymore . But are music store files gonna sound bad over a small/med sized sound-system? Or am I just being scared by a few audiophiles who hang out in recording studios 12 hours a day and for all their trained hearing have forgotten what the layman hears (or doesn't hear)?!? Because if the answer really is "forget it, it'll sound awfull" then I really need to question the point of buying from the music store.
Thanks in advance for your opinions...

    Rich,
Sounds like you have your answer as far as the number of times you can burn a playlist with protected music in it. Keep in mind that if you alter the playlist you can get another 7 burns in.
By the way, just because you buy a CD or "Tune" doesn't make it "yours." How would you feel if you produced a track, went through a copyright process, and everyone who paid $1 for it had legal rights to it? Yes you own a copy of others music but it doesn't give you the right to mass produce it and/or distribute or sell it. DJ's like us are always skirting the line between copyright infringement and remix / alteration rights. I mean we get paid for playing other people's music right? Copyrights are there to protect artists against that scenario exactly. OK (stepping down from my soap box now)
Bitrate / Quality - of course through most systems 192 MP3 or 128 AAC will do just fine. But, just how large are these parties? If they truly are small house parties say one room up to 100 people, I'd say you're fine. But, when you play that same track on a full on sound system in, say a club or something (1000 people or so) with 2-5000 watts or more behind it, you will hear all the fuzz, noise, pops, etc. In the end it really is a personal decision, what's suitable quality to your ears? The vinyl sounds better doesn't it?
    Just my opinion...Hope it helps.

  • Find threshold level of receiving and processing messages in PO

    Hello all SAP PI Experts,
A few days ago, our PI system crashed as a result of receiving too many messages. So, they had to do stop PI to perform some correction operations and now everything is working fine. Luckily this problem was detected in Quality system before they could transport everything to Production system.
My team is now asking me to check the threshold limit of our PI system so that they can make sure that they never send messages more than the threshold limit again. Could anyone please suggest how to check this ?
Our system is based on PI 7.4 single stack.
    Thanks,
    Ajeya G V

    Hello Ajeya,
in principle, PI should be able to handle any number of messages. It would put them into queues and work on them as the system power permits. If the system crashed, you need to analyze what exactly was the cause for the crash. Some possibilities:
    - Was it too many synchronous messages leading to connection timeouts etc.?
    - Was the hardware at its limits, i.e. out of disk space, out of memory?
    - Was it an application problem, inefficient coding, for example many RFC calls to the backend, costly loops in mappings?
There could be many more. If you know the reason, check whether the same problem applies in production and fix it.
There is no way to give you an absolute threshold value, you will only be able to extrapolate past values and performance and give a good guess. The best way to do this is having a properly sized QA system (close to P) and run performance tests.

  • Ici in mrp4 view

My understanding is that by setting 2 in ICI of mrp4 view, it will combine the all pru2019s or planned orders of that particular material and generates single procurement proposal. My doubt is that if the date of procurement is different, then what system will do? I mean if procurement date of one sales order requirement is 20.01.10 and other is 25.01.10, then how system behaves? Will it generate two pru2019s or single pru2019s? what is the reference for system to decide so? Please advice.

    Hi,
This will be controlled through your lot sizing procedure. If there are two sales orders which have a common component as A and you have two different delivery dates for them then when you run the MRP system will be have as follows,
    1) create 2 PR's/PO of the delivery date for both of them are different and you use EX in Lot sizing
    2) If you use daily/weekly/monthly lot sizing then system will generate the cumulative requirement based on the delivery dates.

  • Is SAP-OSS RFC Configuration required for Technical Monitoring ?

    Hi Experts,
I have not configured the SAP-OSS rfc connection. Is it required for setting up the technical monitoring(Tcode : SOLMAN_SETUP).
If Yes can you please help me in solving the above problem. Our aim is to configure  technical monitoring for  system and self-monitoring.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Satheesh E

    Hello,
I am assuming you are speaking about 100 concurrent users and not the entire company userbase.
Core i5 (although is dual core underneath) is generally meant for desktops, having said this, please note that its difficult to arrive at any recommendation based on simply userbase. You need to have more data with you with respect to amount of transactions, concurrent users, peak period, load during peak period etc.
You need to use SAP's quicksizer to calculate the amount of SAPS for your production servers, SAPS is the unit used to calibrate your hardware for running SAP Applications.
If you provide your SAPS value to hardware vendor, they will advise what CPU rating and how many CPUs you need. They will infact tell you the entire configuration that you need.
you can also buy the following book:

  • Db_associate fails with : Lock table is out of available lock entries

    Hi
Occasionally on startup my app needs to rebuild its secondary database, so I call db_associate with DB_CREATE set. If the primary db is large the associate fails with "Lock table is out of available lock entries". Both databases are hashes, so I have not configured any special lock sizes as I didn't think I needed to.
What lock configuration does db_associate need to succeed?
    I am using version 4.7.25
    Thanks
    Ashley

    Hi Ashley,
You should be sizing the locking subsystem with high enough values so the secondary database rebuilds successfully, then run the "db_stat -C" utility and see how many locks, lock objects and lockers did you need to perform the operation and reconfigure the locking subsystem with values slightly bigger than what you needed, so you make sure that you'll have enough resources for the next time you'll rebuild the secondary.
"Lock table is out of available lock entries" means that the Berkeley DB locking subsystem has not been configured for enough locks. For more information, see the "Configuring locking: sizing the system" section of the Berkeley DB Reference Guide, included in your download package and also available at:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17076_01/html/programmer_reference/lock_max.html
To see what locks are held in the database environment at any time, you can dump the lock table using the -Cl options:
    % db_stat -h [database environment directory] -Cl -N
    Additional documentation:
    db_stat: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17076_02/html/api_reference/C/db_stat.html

  • Upgrade CC from 4.0 to 5.2 vs 5.3

    Hello Experts,
my customer has upgraded R/3 to ECC6 and is willing in parallel to migrate its GRC applications to the newer standard. We just put CC 40 to date without big advantages.
Can you advise whether to go for 5.2 immediately or wait for 5.3 later next year?
Are there any gaps solved and important features present in the 5.3 version, worth waiting for it?
    Thanks a lot for advise,
    Enrico

    Enrico,
I believe there is an upgrade path from 4.0 to 5.2 which there is non for 5.3 right now unless its the same.  But if they are already on 4.0 and want to upgrade I would suggest 5.2 because you are going from an ABAP based version to the JAVA there is a difference in sizing your system.  Making sure the rules are imported appropriately and making sure your connectors and RTA's are setup.  But as far as 5.3 is I would not be able to tell you what the difference will be.  5.2 is probably a better option at this time.

  • Need to re-tag some Para styles of imported Word docs

I'm hoping someone can help. I have a fairly modest-sized help system that is created from imported Word Docs (Office Word 2003). These documents use conventional paragraph styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.).
In my RoboHelp X5 project, I've created a custom CSS file that I apply to the imported Word docs. After importing any of the docs, some of my paragraph styles become misaligned: for example, my Heading 3 paragraphs are flush with the left margin, rather than indented as they should. When I click inside the mis-aligned paragraph, I see that the paragraph is indeed tagged as Heading 3. At fist I thought it might have been my CSS file style definitions, but they appear to be fine. In fact, all I have to do to correct the paragraph alignment is to reassert the tag (ie From the RB Project window, click the para (the fomating combo box reads Heading 3), reselect (reapply) the style (Heading 3), and then select "Reapply formatting  of the style to the selection" from the Update/Reapply Style dialog. RH then correctly applies the alignment defined for the style in my CSS. Note, this appears only to be an alignment issue; the fonts and other attributes always seem to work on import. Unfortunately, I have to do this hundreds of times because I seem to have several styles that need retagging after import.
Any ideas? I downloaded a trial copy of RB 8, hoping this was peculiar to X5, but RB8 behaved the same way.  If it's any help, I've pasted the HTML coding for a Heading 3 paragraph, 1) just after import 2) the para after Heading 3 style was reasserted. For some reason RH is "margin left" and "text-indent" attributes.
    1) Immediately after import
    <h3 style=
    "margin-left: 40.3pt; text-indent: -40.3pt;">2.2.1<span style="font: 7.0pt 'Times New Roman';">
    </span>Using the Stylus</h3>
    2) After retagging as heading Heading 3
    <h3>
    2.2.1<span style="font: 7.0pt 'Times New Roman';">     </span>Using the Stylus</h3>
    Thanks.....rob

Judging from the excess spacing between the "2.2.1" and the H3 title, I suspect that your Word file has a tab set in there. I believe replacing the tab with one or two spaces should import the file without the indent.
As to the font (span) tagging, are you sure that your Heading 3 style in Word is the original, default Heading 3, and not some re-styled Heading 3 based on Normal or something else, or a "Heading 3 + Font: 7 pt, Times New Roman", which would indicate inline modification of the style rather than a global replacement of settings for the style? I've never seen RH add span tagging unless it encounters non-standard styles in the base document.
Select a test .doc file. Before importing it to RH, try these:
Use Format Painter in Word to manually re-style any non-standard paragraphs.
Do not attach a .css to the Word file, only to the resulting RH topic.
    Do you see a difference?
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Do I really need to install ABAP stack for SLD

As far as I know, the SLD runs on the Java stack.  We're planning to install the standalone SLD server as the central SLD, to which later all the systems (ABAP, JAVA) will be connected.  I wonder if it's really necessary to install the ABAP+JAVA stack for it.  If I only install Java stack, will there be any concern in the future if however the ABAP stack become required?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

    Jerry,
SLD only need the J2EE engine. Usually you'll see SLD attached to a Solution Manager 4.0, SAP PI/XI,  BI 7.0 (BI JAVA)  or EP. These are the systems that really need a SLD to run.
Honestly I can't see any advantage in installing a standalone SLD, unless you have several SAP environments and a complex architecture.
Anyway I think you should see  these links...

  • MSS Portal performance Team calender

    Hi All,
While accessing the Team Calender by MSS Portal , its taking much time , even when we are accessing Team calender in Production portal, its taking so much time.
Can any one help me in this regard.Whay its taking so much time how we can increase performenc of the Team calender accees.
    Thanks

Is this issue only with team calender or all the services in MSS including team viewer.
If this is only with team calender where manger views attendance of employee then debug the application and specifically look at the RFC timing.
This can be an issue with respect to sizing of system if all the mss applications are resulting in poor response otherwise as suggested raise an OSS.

I'm wondering if having two sound cards on my computer is causing this problem. You are supposed to be able to run the SB 24-bit External along with the existing card but I also read somewhere that it's best to disable the original card because of conflicts with stuff like DMA lines, IRQ lines or I/O address...
I've updated drivers with no luck. I would try to disable the original sound card but I don't know just how to do that and I'm not sure if that would make any difference anyway. I've not heard of anyone else with this problem after searching quite a bit on this forum and others so I thought I'd post here hoping someone could help. I'm running the following:

Hi ya Phil! :smileyvery-happy: Lemmie tell ya what happened. When I first read your post, I thought "Out-of-phase mono? There's no such thing!" because, well... there isn't; at least not with my understanding of what 'out-of-phase' means. And this mono sound I get from my speakers is a quality mono sound, balanced and focused between the speakers.
Still, your post did get me to thinking that with all the splitters I have with my setup, something could be crossed or jumped in a way that could be causing the problem. I'm attaching a picture of my Sound Blaster set up that could show potential for problems. I have two splitters that break into three leads that feed three different sound systems. One feeds the desktop speakers, another feeds an Aiwa mini stereo system and a third feeds a full sized stereo system in another room.

Thing is, I'd checked out the possibility of faulty cables/splitters when I first encountered the problem last week by removing the splitters and solely feeding the desktop speakers directly with the Sound Blaster. I had also connected this lead to the headphone output on the front of the computer to test the AC'97 on the motherboard. These connections played mono audio each and every time I tried this.
But being desperate, I tried once again after reading the above post. I connected the desktop lead to the Sound Blaster without the splitters and, as usual, only heard mono with the 'Left Channel/Right Channel' test. And then, for some reason, I connected the lead to the Aiwa mini system with the Sound Blaster, using no splitters, and lo and behold - IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!! ?:smileysurprised:
I about defecated on myself right then and there!? I mean, I'd been hassling with this thing for like a week and now I'm magically hearing stereo!? I really didn't expect it to work because the desktop speakers didn't work with the same connection so I hooked up the desktop speakers back to the Sound Blaster and THEY WORKED this time!? So I then hooked up the splitters and all three leads back to the original setup shown in the picture and EVERYTHING WORKS!?:smileyvery-happy:
It's mind boggling; I don't know why everything is suddenly working fine but I'll be darned if I enable the AC'97 and test it to see what happens. ? It can remain dead from here on for all I care. But I still have to wonder what happened. All that work yesterday uninstalling and reinstalling the Sound Blaster may have had a delayed effect or something. That is, when I hooked up the Awia mini-system separately with the Sound Blaster, something clicked somewhere, somehow, and I now have stereo. And it totally rocks!
It does bug me though, just what the heck happened? Still, I gotta thank Phil for getting me to mess around with the leads once again. If I ever see him outside of cyberspace, I'll have to buy him a beer... ?
