Sizing Tool for Journaling

I have been looking for a tool to help guide with determining a reasonable amount of free space needed to begin Journaling mail messages. I have performed the standard math assumptions like:
Internal Mail a day + External Mail a day then multiplying that by 365 to get have a guess at how much space is needed for a years worth of mail, then multiplying that by the number of years it needs to be kept.
From most threads I have found, this seems to be the way most folks are handling the "Planning" of journaling. Does Microsoft have a sizing tool similar to Symantec's Enterprise Vault? Or is this the best practice for determining the size of your
Mailbox/Mailbox Databases? Judging from others research, I have not found a way to even put a number on how much internal to internal mail is being sent a day. Our message hygiene system however has a weekly report that shows how much data is going in and
out everyday. But if I go with exact external data and guessed internal data, I feel the numbers will either be to high or too low.
Math Example: 5GB/week external to internal and internal to external, 10GB S.W.A.G/internal to internal for 15GB/week total.
15GB/week x52 weeks in a year=780GB/year x 5 year retention plan=3900GB
Any input or feedback is greatly appreciated, once again not looking for someone to calculate the solution for me, just to guide me in the right direction for this.
Thanks,
Justin

  • Sizing Tool - Disks

The sizing tool for SCOM 2012 states the following for a 500 Windows Computers and 100 Network Devices scenario:
Role:  Operations Database Server, Operations Data Warehouse Server, Web Console Server & SQL Server Reporting Services Server

    • 10 disk RAID 10 (Data) (300 GB)

    Hi Chris,
The number of disks required is performance related rather than available storage, if there are more spindles then this will allow the striped data to be written quicker (i.e greater IOPS). Obviously the number of IOPS will be dependent upon the storage
you're using and if it's shared, etc.
    Hope this helps

  • Does the Cisco Unified Communications Sizing Tool 8.5(3) work for you ?

The previous version of this sizing tool worked just fine thank you very much, but now when I fire it up, it says it has expired and I should upgrade to the nice shiny new one. So I downloaded the new tool from
    http://tools.cisco.com/cucst/faces/landing.jsp
and installed it, but when it runs it displays an Excel error and dies. Don't you love those sorts of circles?
I am on Windows 7 64-bit with Excel 2010 32-bit - a compatible combination, according to the release notes.
    Any ideas?

It's got to be something with you excel security settings.
I am sure you are absolutely correct. I just installed it on a colleague's computer (he works for a different company so his Excel does not have the same settings as mine, which comes from the HP corporate load).
I've played with quite a few different settings in the Trust Center but haven't cracked it yet.

  • Is Aperture the tool for me?

    Afternoon all,
Following on from a separate forum thread I've got here in iPhoto https://discussions.apple.com/message/20902055?ac_cid=op123456#20902055?ac_cid=o p123456, I wondered whether the Aperture thread could also help me out.
I'm looking to have a single product to use as a central catalogue and referencing tool for the 000s of photos I've already got but also the 000s yet to be taken. I'm intending to have these photos stored on a NAS with appropriate backup measures, but accessing them through this as yet unknown product through wi-fi. I'm likely to do minimal photo manipulation other than the basics and enjoy the features of iPhoto so the main benefit is the ability to reference the images from a networked location. TD has kindly advised that iPhoto isnt the right product due to various limits due to networking.
My question is simple: Is Aperture the tool for me?
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Tim

If you read TD's answer carefully, it says
It cannot have the Library on a networked location, such as a NAS. iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
The main problem is the formatting of the drive - for Aperture holds the same: The library needs to be on a disk formatted MacOS X Extended. Otherwise you are risking inconsistencies in your Aperture library  and open a can of worms, see:
Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library
If you absolutey want to store your Photolibrary on a NAS, you can create a writable diskimage formatted MacOS X extended on your NAS and store the library on this disk image. You will have to take care to automount the diskimage before you access Aperture. This will be tedious and slow.
The question, if you can put your Aperture library on a network volume is open to a debate, but I would not do it.
For a good performance the access to the Aperture library needs to be very fast - I'd put the library on the fastest drive you have, with a very fast port, Thunderbolt, for example. My library sits on a second internal drive.
Your network needs to be very stable, if you want reliable database transactions for your Aperture library.
    2. While you can run iPhoto in Referenced mode, with the Masters on a NAS and the library on a local disk, this is inherently unreliable. Here has more:
This is better in Aperture. Other than iPhoto Aperture has built-in tools to deal with referenced original files. So you can move the bulk of your image files to an external volume and keep only the Aperture library on your internal volume.

  • UC Sizing Tool x64

Forgive me if there is another post about this, but i could not find it.  I am running Windows 8 x64 with Office 2013 x64.  When i download the excel for the UC Sizing tool at http://tools.cisco.com/cucst/faces/landing.jsp and load it, i get a warning windows that states "Application's launch was blocked by another program."  I am only running Windows Defender and no notifications pop-up showing that there are hits to security on this.  i am a local administrator on my computer, but i don't know what might be happening.  Has another else expirenced this?  If this program cannot run on x64 windows or office, is there a work-around?
    Thanks,
    Kenneth

Downgrading to Office x86 worked.  I guess there really isn't that much use for x64 Office.  I had the same issue as you with the BAT spreadsheet.  Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Paperq: a tool for managing a reading queue of academic literature

paperq is a command-line tool for managing a reading queue of academic literature.   It's usage is simple: you add files to the queue and then you run it without arguments to open the next file in the queue. The queue part of the code itself is rather simple but paperq also offers some other nice features:
    Add files (-a option)
    Remove a file (-r option)
Display info on a file. Given a BibTeX file,  print the bibliographic information, otherwise print the file location (-i option)
List all files (or bibliographic information) in the queue (-l option)
Create an archive (tar.gz) of the papers in the queue, prepending the file names with the queue position (-z option)
Operate on any file in the queue, instead of the head, via the -n option
Peek at a file (open it, but don't remove it from the queue) via the -p option
    Print a file (-t option)
    Configurable file-opening command (xdg-open %s, by default)
Documentation is available in the README file or on the website (see below). A man page is also included.
I've been using it myself now that I finally stopped using Mendeley. I find it to be quite handy, so I've packaged it up to be shared with others.

I just uploaded version 1.1.1.  I somehow missed a bug in which the first word of the author list was being chopped off. It's fixed.
marttt wrote:Thanks very much for this! I can finally ditch some of my ugly scripts now. Have you considered adding other bibliographic data formats in the future? (Here is an interesting solution with YAML and Pandoc and, correspondingly, proper UTF-8 support.)
Glad to hear it could be of use to you! Honestly, this also just started out as a quick script but little by little I started adding more handy features.
As for other bibliographic formats, it could be possible. I'm mainly familiar with BibTeX, so I would need to see how the other formats look.
In all honesty, the bibliographic info printing could be greatly expanded: only journal articles are supported at the moment, and mathematical expressions in the titles aren't yet supported (i.e. greek characters).  It might be more efficient in the long run to write a dedicated biblio parsing program that loads some pre-written BibTeX-parsing library rather than all the crazy sed work that's going on in there right now. If that's the case, then it's just a  matter of loading some library for a different biblio file format in order to support it.

  • Is there an HTML help authoring tool for LV?

Ideally one tool fits all, LabView, C# and MSVC++.
I know RoboHelp is a good tool for non-LV languages, does any one know other good tools? Thanks

The standard Common User Access (CUA) states that the key F1 will open help. Unfortunatly you cannot associate this key with a help file and topic as you can in other development systems.
On windows systems the behaviour seem to be common with what I have tested with MS Outlook, MS Internet explorer, LV and my favourite Help authouring tool (HAT). All open the default topic of the help file.
On IBMs AS /400, now iSeries, F1 will open a window which depends on the field where the cursor is. On GUI system this is related to the control who has the key focus. If the cursor is outside any field a help window explaining the current screen will be opened.
LV allows you to simulate this using the event structure. Make a event case for "Key up". Look into help for scan codes and how the keys are mapped to the values in this case. This event exists for the VI and for each control/indicator. If you have detected a F1 key you can open the help file with the corresponding topic.
The other way of context sensitiv help is Shift-F1. This works different in different applications. MS Outlook will open a popup window depending on the part where the mouse cursor is. MS IE will open the default topic of the help. My HAT will change the cursor and when you click somewhere you get a corresponding popup window. LV will ignore this key. The best way LV has for that is the "Tip" or "Tip Strip".
I think that NI will not make a new property to VIs and controls containing help file information and to associate the F1 key with that properties because you can connect F1 to a control using Key Navigation. This is another method of providing help. Place a control outside the visible aera and connect it with F1 using key navigation. This way you can open a help file with a topic with the context sensitivity of the window.
Another thing I have to comment is that why will you use HTML files instead of HTML based help (Win98, this is the same help LV uses)? If you have a medium sized application you will have to be careful to deploy a lot of files (more than 30 I would expect, 1 for ech topic and two or three for the frame, navigation and table of contents). You have to take into concern various browsers (4 Versions of MS IE, some versions of Netscape, some versions of Opera) with various versions of JavaScript if you will use a dynamic table of contents. And you will loose such things like Search and Favourites. Win98-Help looks always the same because there is only one viewer installed with every Windows and there are no third party products doing some things different. The only answer I would really accept is you are not on a windows platform.

  • CM Tool for Forte

    Hello all,
We are in the process of evaluating software Configuration
Management tool, named Perforce. We are exploring the possibility of using
it for Forte based projects too. Is anyone out there have currently using
this tool with Forte, or have any experience with the possibility of using
any CM tool with Forte development.
Any input in this regard will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Charu.

    Text based configuration management
    Scripts to export/import
Repository creation tools from frozen source set (taken out of CM)
And policies to force users to checkout a full plan (for locking reasons)
when having to change a single class.
There's still the issue where stuff is checked out in CM and as well
in the workshop => inconsistency risk

    Hi,
Just Curious to know how everybody are maintaining different
    versions of the
    Forte project.
Forte itself provides us with the Team development and cross platform
development features. All we need is Version Controlling.
I presume we wont be maintaining different versions of each
    "Forte Project"
in the Version Control.( A Project in Forte will definitely contain more
than 1 Forte Project). If we do this, we need to maintain a chart
    of which
version of Forte Project works with another Forte Project and it is messy.
The other way is to baseline the Development Repository itself in the
Version Control. This works fine. But once the repository starts
    growing, I
am not sure of the version control software handling GB sized files.
    Any IDEAS?
    Thanx
    Krishna

are there any standard code available, or can any one contribute to ease the load a bit?

    Hello,
if you need to knwo wht is the size of ICs and other targets u can use DB02 to find that out.

  • CS 4 InDesign Page sizing tool

I found a post about this a week ago but lost it. CS 4 got rid of the easy page sizing tool so I could click on 100% or 75% or whatever and easily shift sizes of my pages in the work area.
Apparently there is some new (application) tool on the tool box but I could not find it.
    Thanks for any help.

Hi. I am looking on the tool bar on the top and on the side. I cannot find anything that will allow me to size my page up or down as I am working. So far I have to go to the magnifying tool and use that to work. There is something on the top bar with a white x in a grey square box that has some sizes but it doesn't do a thing so I don't know what that is. I wish they hadn't removed this for CS4.

  • SAP Sizing Tool

Is there a simple and easy way to effectively size MII for distribution?  I understand there is a sizing tool that SAP provides, but I have never found someone either on the SAP side or a client that has effectively sized their layout for MII.  Does anyone have a guideline document that could state...
0 - 9,999 data transactions per hour, you need xx RAM, xx hard drive, xx bandwidth
10,000 - 99,999 data transactions per hour, you need xx RAM, xx hard drive, xx bandwidth
100,000 + data transactions per hour, you need xx RAM, xx hard drive, xx bandwidth
I would build this document and share, but my experience has been more gut triggered and I shoot high to make sure I have enough room, but as I begin to talk to clients that are asking for much larger enterprise, I see it is hard to gauge how much they need.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Your question is basically talks about MII Architecture .it is available sizing questioner in service market place.
document is set of questions like data load between shop floor and ECC per min/hour.based on this you have to calculate RAM size(Server sizing). It depends on Plant load and number of users.
    Thanks,

  • Please tell me you can use pan/zoom tool for photo slideshow with photos not cropped to screen?

I'm new to Mac and Premiere Elements (former PC/Sony Vegas Movie user), and am trying to do a Ken Burns type photo slideshow wherein my photos are left in their normal cropped state.  Right now it seems all photos get cropped to fill the screen size (i.e. 16:9).  I saw where you could uncheck the scale photo size to media (or something to that effect) under the general setting in preferences, but using the pan/zool tool still shows photos cropped to fill screen.  I realize conflicting aspect ratio will result in black bars top/bottom or left/right of frame, and that's ok/what I want.  I'm hoping this is doable?  Thanks, Jim

    jimdrought
The primary question that I have is what is the end product...DVD-VIDEO Standard on DVD disc, DVD-VIDEO Widescreen on DVD disc or other?
Let us assume for now DVD-VIDEO Widescreen on DVD disc. The next question that falls into line is the one relating to what you describe as an assortment of photos going into this project...what are the pixel dimensions (what range of...) and aspect ratio. For aspect ratio, are we talking 4:3 or 16:9. How many of these photos are landscape oriented or how many portrait oriented.
In generalities at this point, I would ask you to look at:
    a. bringing your photos appropriately sized into a Premiere Elements project with an appropriate project preset.
    b. leaving Edit Menu/Preferences/General with its Default Scale to Frame Size with a check mark.
    c. in the workspace, scaling the photos to just fill the space in the Edit Mode Monitor
    d. then one by one pan and zoom a photo with the Pan and Zoom Tool.
If you use this Tool, you should get good results. One consideration is that the process results in the Timeline photo having a much larger duration AFTER than BEFORE. If you see any pros in using this tool for your purposes, then you might want to explore the technique that I described for applying a pan and zoom effect from this Tool to more than one photo at a time.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/05/pe11-pan-zoom-tool-more-than-one-photo.html
You also might want to explore fxEffects/Presets for horizontal and vertical pans or zoom. The catch in the presets is that you can apply a pan OR zoom, not a pan AND zoom to each photo.
Keyframing of Scale (for Zoom) and Position (for Pan) should be explored under Applied Effects/Applied Effects Palette/Motion Panel expanded/Scale and Position properties.
With more details from you, we could go step by step in any of the above.
We will be watching for your progress.
    Thanks.
