Skype for ALL Blackberry EMERGENCY CRISIS IN JAPAN

When will it be available for other phones.  Today having Skype is a MUST especially when emergencies like the one that just happen in Japan occur...you should have it available for everyone not just for Verizon.  I believe Skype is one of the best features ever invented I bought my skype phone as soon as I was able.  I was living in London at that time and they had a great plan in the telecomunications company 3.  Unfortunately, in Guatemala I cannot use my Skype phone...now I have a Blackberry which is supposed to be the Business tool of today, an although very useful it does not help in these situations.  Thank God!! for Whatsapp if it wouldn't have been for this tool it would have been terrible to bear this tragedy in Japan.  My mom is in Japan and we were able to communicate at all times thanks with both Skype and Whatsapp; however, I was stuck with my computer at all times.  She was surviving the emergency and upating us with the status only with her phone which is what should be nowadays.  Of course she has an iphone.  So I wonder when will this feature be available for everyone.  It is not only fair but also an necessity in today's life. Please write me awith some answers on when will this feature be available for everyone.  COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY FOR EVERYTHING.

I don't use Skype but Googling "Skype for BB" brought up loads of hits. See if anything is suitable by doing the same.
We're just ordinary members of the public on here. I think I would speak for all in saying that our thoughts are with you and all those affected by the events in Japan.

  • Skype for blackberry 8310

Hi!I have blackberry 8310 curve. Can I install and use skype?

    hello,
there is no client from Skype that is available for Blackberry devices. But you can install a client from another software vendor that can connect to the Skype Network. Please read :

  • About Skype for Symbian

Is there any indication as to how long the Symbian Skype client will continue to function? Thanks.

We have been working hard to make Skype for mobile better than ever, and adopting Skype cloud enables us to drive improved battery life, improve connections and introduce exciting new features. However Symbian wasn’t built for the cloud-connected world, so we are retiring the Skype for Symbian app and focusing on bringing the best possible experience to the most popular mobile platforms: Windows Phone, iOS and Android. The Skype for Symbian app will be removed from the Nokia store today, however users that have already downloaded the app can continue to use it.
    UPDATED on August 18th:
We are now permanently retiring all Skype apps for Symbian phones. As a result, within the next few weeks, you’ll no longer be able to sign in and use Skype on any Symbian phone.
You can still stay in touch with friends and family using Skype on an Android device, Nokia Lumia phone or desktop computer. You can sign into them all using the same Skype account. The latest versions of Skype for all supported devices are available here.

  • Skype for 8520 and other BB version's / Question needed to be answered by Blackberry support for everyone!

This is a question that seriously needs answering for myself and other BB customer's.
Personally the only reason I have a BB is because I can have window's live messenger on it, But WLM is closing in April and updating to skype, Meaning everyone who use's WLM that their contact's will be going there and not to any other network!
Now I've read from what I've researched that BB maybe will be joining with oovoo something like that, Why when that is not where people's MSN/Hotmail contact's will be going ?
BB paying customer's to BB product's want access to there MSN/Hotmail contact's not to be diverted to another service that does not have their MSN/Hotmail contact's.
Also I have seen that skype or something along those line's will be available for the new BB 10, So what about earlier product's such as BB curve 8520 that I personally own myself that has nothing wrong with it?
So us paying BB customer's are going to be excluded because we don't have a brand new version of BB due to there being nothing wrong with the BB's we have? Which so were going to be penalized?
I would like these question's answered please because I am not happy about this and I'm sure a lot of other BB customer's are not too, It's not anyone's fault that WLM is going to be taken away but atleast make sure that BB customer's have a skype app to access their MSN/Hotmail contact's and can conversant with them directly like WLM.
Honestly I love my BB and wouldn't be without it purely because I'm able to log in WLM when I like, Where ever I am and talk to my contact's directly, Not all people have BB's and can not be added to BB messenger which is why WLM is a priority on BB app's for BB customer's, Is something going to be done about this? Because if not then that is just wrong which will result in many valued BB customer's changing to other phone's purely because out of being penalized of not having the newer version of BB 10 or not having skype at all regardless of IM+, We should have a direct Skype app and be able to have direct gain to our MSN/Hotmail contact's like we did on WLM.
So can someone answer this please and give us BB customer's confirmation on what is going to happen, Thank you.
For those of you BB customer's who are reading this who use WLM and is important to you as it is myself, Like this thread please so it get's noticed so that action will be taken. Thank you.

The answer is actually simple...example...6.0.0.415 for a 9860 is very different from 6.0.0.415 for a 9670. Hence, the app developers must port their apps to every combination of (usually) major OS level (e.g., 6.0, 7.0, 7.1) and specific device model number. That's a lot of combinations to which they must port their app...and many choose to not do them all. But the choice is the app developers.
    Good luck!

  • How to remove all personal information for your blackberry?

I am currently an Altel subscriber, whom is being switched to AT&T.  I would like to sell or donate my current blackberry 9630 as it is in new condition.  How do I ensure all my data has been removed and it is safe to do so?  I checked online and it says to replace your SIMS card, but with what?  Wouldn't it have to be carrier specific?  But then if I put in an AT&T Sims it would not work, would it?  As they are saying we have to have new phones?  Please advise.  As you can tell I know little on this except I love my phone

    Hello jodeebryant,
In order to remove all personal information from the BlackBerry you are first going to want to ensure the memory card and SIM card have both been removed. Whoever you sell it to will need neither for the BlackBerry to function or can get their own.
Secondly, you are going to want to do a Security Wipe to the BlackBerry. Do this by going to Options > Security Options > Security Wipe. Before you do this ensure you have either done a backup on BlackBerry Desktop Manager or do not want ANY information that is stored on the BlackBerry.
    Goodluck and hope this helps,
    Euclidics

  • Skype for Blackberry 9900?

    What about BB 9900

Hi, OB3, and welcome to the Community, Skype has not made any recent announcements about plans to release versions of the Skype app for older BlackBerry OS devices - that includes OS 5, 6, and 7. Skype Lite, upon which we were able to use Skype, was decommissioned in January 2013: https://support.skype.com/en/category/SKYPE_LITE/
Skype is now available on the newer BlackBerry devices such as the Z10, Q10, and Classic running at minimum the 10.1 OS. As the BlackBerry 9900 workhorses continue to age, I do not believe it likely that we will see any further updates either to the device, operating system, or apps.
    Best regards,
    Elaine

  • Skype for Chrome deleted all of my Chrome extensio...

I recently enstalled Skype for Chrome (it's been a while ago), but I just recently got a pop-up from Chrome saying that it was recently installed (which was odd considering it was installed a while ago) and it asked if I wanted to give Skype permission to change my Chrome around. I clicked "No", but I just realized that it deleted all of my extensions off of Chrome anyway. What gives? Can someone explain to me why all of my extensions from Chrome were deleted even though I specifically clicked for it not to make any changes to my Chrome?

You don't have any choice but to restore your phone.  If the phone is still working, be sure to back up your contacts first.  Since iTunes can't read your phone you can download the app My Contacts Backup, which will back up your contacts as an email attachment.  Send this email to yourself; you can later open it on your phone and tap the attachment to re-import your contacts if necessary.  When done, click on Restore (on the Summary tab) and let iTunes do its thing.  Be careful to watch the progress information at the top of iTunes as well as your iPhone screen so that you do not interrupt the restore process until it is completes.

  • Skype for Windows Phone idea: Make it work

[Topic title updated by moderator to be more descriptive. Original topic title was: "Re: Submit: Great Skype for Windows Phone ideas"]
Oh, here's a brilliant idea - make it work. Simple enough?
Fix resuming the app. Make it fast enough so I can actually pick up a call.
Decrease battery drain. Currently when using skype my battery usage sometimes reaches 65% per hour. It's not even ridiculous anymore.
I'm not asking much, I don't need calling skype-skype a pleasant experience. Just make it work without requiring 1Gb/s bandwidth and quad-core processor with 8GB RAM.
Last but not least - make SkypeOut not a theoretical feature to lure people into paying subscription but something that actually works at least half the time.
I'm really not asking anything fancy like deleting some old messages or other things people mention. Just the basics of a communication app.
The funny thing is that we all know you don't give a s* about what we are putting here. Nobody's gonna read it anyway.
It's sad. I used to like skype, before the mobile revolution. Now... Just keep it going the way it's going and in two, three years you'll be a history like Blackberry or AOL

As for those "smaller improvements" I think everyone will agree with me that they are way too small, and they take much too long. I mean, seriously, 65% per hour battery drain! I am yet to find an app, ANY app that would be even remotely close to your "achievements". With improvements that small and slow I guess in 5 years skype will be using only 30% battery every hour. If I'm not expecting to be next to a power outlet within an hour or two I'm not even trying to use skype anymore. Exactly the same applies to resuming the app. I understand that there are some improvements but honestly improving by 50 ms is not an improvement that any user would appreciate. Again, in this matter skype is probably the worst or one of the worst among all communication apps in WP store. And it's not like it's a new app. Those "improvements" (exactly the same) have been announced from the very beginning and yet they are virtually unnoticable for an average user. Like I said before, sometimes it's impossible to answer a call because it takes too long to resume skype. And any improvement that doesn't make it possible is not really an improvement, from a user's point of view.
I really hope this changes and next fixes will be dramatic.
Now, SkypeOut problem. I cannot agree that it has anything to do with a carrier I'm trying to call. Here's why:
    1. I'm calling the same people from desktop app, from metro app on my tablets and from my phone. Desktop - no problems whatsoever, Metro - pretty much good as well, Windows Phone - unusable most times.
    2. When I try to call people from phone - it doesn't work at all, I tether a laptop/tablet to the phone, thus virtually using the same connection (ATT) - magically it starts working perfectly fine.
    3. I'm calling landlines and all cellular carriers in Poland. Problems are with ALL of them using Windows Phone, and there are no problems using any other platform while calling exactly the same phone numbers. So, unless you have a problem with Poland in general, it wouldn't make any sense to blame the carriers.
    4. For some reason, sometimes it actually works on the phone. But only sometimes.
Also, I noticed this behavior on Windows Phone:
    1. SkypeOut works bad no matter what internet connection I'm using, whether it's 2Mb/s or 100Mb/s it's just a disaster (most of the times), and whether it's wifi or cellular.
    2. Video calls quality is very poor also on both - wifi and cellular.
    3. Voice calls are actually not that bad. Assuming that I can start the app before they hang up
I'm using Lumia 920 so I hope this phone is not too weak for your app. If it is - you're killing yourself limiting only to owners of the very newest phones packed with the best hardware available.

  • Can't open Skype at all on Macbook Pro

I have been struggling with Skype for a long time on my Macbook Pro and wondered if anyone has any advice. When I try to open the application, it crashes immediately before I can even log in. This has been the behaviour for several versions of Skype now, so I am starting to think there is something on my machine which conflicts with it and the problem will not be solved by waiting for a future release of Skype.
Currently it is failing with version 6.0.60.2496 of Skype (downloaded today) on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.8.2. The machine is a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of RAM, purchased in 2009. Exactly the same problem occurred in Lion, before I upgraded to Mountain Lion.
I have tried a number of steps to solve the problem, including:
    * Removing the /skype folder from /Library/Application Support and the preference file from Preferences, uninstalling Skype, restarting in Safe Mode, downloading it again, installing and trying to open it
    * Changing the settings in Text to Speech to a different voice
    * Downloading an older version of Skype and trying to run that
Everything crashes instantly every time and I am unable to use Skype at all.
Skype support have told me there's nothing further they can suggest and they think it may be a conflict with my System fonts, but I am desperate for any advice from someone who has encountered (and hopefully solved!) a similar problem.
Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    Hi Katherine,
You'll need to save it to a different format to use it on a Mac. If you can still open them on the HP, that would probably be the easiest. Save them as a Mac compatible format such as .mpg. If that doesn't work, here is a converter you can try: http://www.squared5.com/

  • Submit: Great Skype for Windows Phone ideas

We have just launched a new Windows Phone idea board to let you all share and exchange your ideas on how to improve and develop Skype for Windows Phone.
Before you start sharing your ideas, here are some guidelines to help you get started:
    Idea Submission Guidelines
Search before posting. Do a quick search and make sure you are not submitting a duplicate. If the idea already exists show your support by giving kudos to the original idea rather than watering down the potential impact across multiple submissions.
Draft your idea. Be as clear as possible, tell us what your idea is, how it would benefit users and why you think we should consider it. That will not only help us to better understand what you want, but we may even be able to solve your problem more quickly another way. Please avoid text speak and keep the idea short and to the point. Ideas are available within a limited number of topic sections of the community as they are not discussion threads.
Currently you can choose one of the following topic labels for your ideas:
    Video Messaging
We‘ve just launched Video Messaging on Windows Phone so you can now send video messages to family and friends, even when they’re not online. Let us know what you think of Video Messaging on Windows Phone and any ideas you have for how we can make it better.
    Phone Integration
Tell us how you would like Skype to be integrated with Windows Phone. Would things be easier if Skype was better integrated with the People Hub? Integrated into the messaging app? Or in the dial pad?
    Contacts
How can we make it easier for you to find friends and family on Skype and add them as a contact? What are your thoughts on how contacts are managed on Skype for Windows Phone? Do you have any recommended improvements?
    Calling
Tell us how you would like Skype to be integrated with Windows Phone. Would things be easier if Skype was better integrated with the People Hub? Integrated into the messaging app? Or in the dial pad?
    Instant Messaging
Video calling is one of Skype’s most popular features. What do/don’t you like about Video calling on Skype for Windows Phone and do you have any ideas for how we can make video calling even better?
    Some things to include:
    Start with a clear title
    add appropriate label(s)
    list features and benefits
Review the ideas of others. Look at other ideas to see what your fellow community members are requesting and feel free to exchange on them in the comments section. While we take into account the numbers of kudos an idea receives, we also consider the amount and quality of member feedback when making our decisions.
Add value. Vote for those items that you like and agree with by giving the idea a kudos. It's really a significant way to recognize someone's effort. We are using votes as a barometer to find out more about what our contributor community thinks is important, so we can factor this into our prioritization process.
Submit a new idea. Adding an idea is just like posting a message on a board. To create an idea, click on the “New Idea” button, located on the left side of the page content tab, and in the left column under the actions heading click “create an idea”. Be sure to enter a clear title and description of your idea so others can decide how they would like to vote. Remember, the more complete your thought, the more likely it is to get noticed! You can use simple HTML, format the text, or add links or images. You can also preview your idea and check your spelling before you post the idea.
Do not be discouraged. Sometimes what seems simple may not be so simple to build. Some ideas take longer than others, and some ideas will not be possible within the scope of what we want to accomplish in the next year or so.
Be respectful. Comply with the Community Guidelines and Skype etiquette.

    Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Idea Board all about?
Idea Board is a new part of the Skype Community, where members can share their ideas about existing products and services. Anyone in the community can see and vote on the ideas you post.
We encourage you to give kudos and comment on submitted ideas as we are more likely to take the top kudoed and most discussed ones into consideration.
How do I navigate the Ideas Board?
Finding your way around the ideas board is a pretty straightforward task, here are some of the things you will see to help you get around.
    •  New Ideas – The most recent ideas.
    •  Hot Ideas – The most popular ideas right now.
    •  Top Ideas – The most kudoed ideas.
    The sidebar widgets
In the sidebar you'll find more ways to sort the ideas board, see new and popular ideas and the top rated contributors to the idea board. It's also really easy to view only the ideas with certain status', for instance if you only want to see ideas that are “Accepted”.
How to check if an idea exists already?
Use the search function filtering by the ideas board – or click here (direct link to search function)
    What do the votes/kudos mean?
Just as you can give kudos in the community boards and blogs, you can vote for ideas you like on the Idea Board. Ideas with high vote totals are more likely to be recognized and accepted by the teams at Skype who develop our products and services. You can also leave comments on ideas, but remember to be kind!
What do the different idea statuses mean?
We strive to review submitted ideas on a biweekly/monthly cycle. Each idea will go through a life cycle that will be assigned statuses at each milestone. The statuses are explained here:
New Idea - Sparkly new idea, submitted by you, and ready to be vetted by the community.
Comments Requested - Items set as Comments Requested will be open to the community for feedback and votes.
Under consideration - Idea has been forwarded to appropriate business team who is determining feasibility.
More information needed - More information is needed before our Product Management team can take this forward, please review the comments left by the team.
Duplicate - Ideas in this status have already been submitted in some form or another. We will link these items over to the other idea so you can review the status or track the progress there.
Already exists - This is available in the product.
Future possibility - Idea is a good one but not something we can include in a near-term product or software release.
Accepted - Idea has been accepted and has been taken forward for implementation, check back soon for updates.
Not right now - We like the idea but just not for right now, we will revisit it in the future.
Implemented - You asked for it, we did it!
My idea has been accepted. How long will it take to be implemented?
Sadly, we will not be able to provide dates for the implementation of any accepted ideas within the community due to the number of factors involved. Please be patient and let us make sure it is completely ready before we make it available.
How will I know if an idea has been implemented?
You can track the status of your ideas as your ideas are sent to the people here at Skype who can make them happen and you will see the status of your idea is updated. We will be telling you if the idea is something we are working on now or would like to do in the future, or if it’s something that is not feasible for us at this time. To ensure you don’t miss any updates select “Subscribe” from the “Idea Options” menu when viewing your idea.
What ideas have been implemented so far?
You can check "Accepted and Implemented ideas" topic here.
Can I edit or delete my ideas comments?
No, you can't. Be sure to check your spelling and preview your comment before you post it; you can't edit a comment once it's posted.
Who and how often moderates/ manages the ideas board?
The community team is monitoring the board on the daily basis and product managers will come in on a monthly basis to update statuses of the ideas and post their comments.
If Skype decides not to pursue my idea, will you tell me why?
We do not always provide the reasons for our decisions regarding ideas submitted for review but will strive to provide an explanation where possible.
I have an idea to improve the Windows Phone software itself?
Microsoft has set up a Windows Phone Feature Suggestion Box for exactly that purpose. Share your idea here: http://windowsphone.uservoice.com
If I am not comfortable submitting my idea over the Internet, is there another way I can do so?
    No.

I would really appreciate if you guys work on the feature “ custom backgrounds for chat notifications”.If users will be able to choose any image of their liking in the custom background feature if would add value. Currently some of the chat messengers provide this facility to the users which makes interesting to the users while improving user friendliness and satisfaction. Options that would include areTake a photoChoose from albumsSearch from webDeleteThat appears to be a reasonably robust selection. In search, a user can use a built in engine to pull up images based on search and then select it as it their choice. Once you chose an image, it will be asked to confirm and ‘set’ as the universal chat window for all contacts.

The community team is monitoring the board on the weekly basis and product managers will come in on a monthly basis to update statuses of the ideas and post their comments.
If Skype decides not to pursue my idea, will you tell me why?
We do not always provide the reasons for our decisions regarding ideas submitted for review but will strive to provide an explanation where possible.
If I am not comfortable submitting my idea over the Internet, is there another way I can do so?
    No.

I would really appreciate if you guys work on the feature “ custom backgrounds for chat notifications”.
If users will be able to choose any image of their liking in the custom background feature if would add value. Currently some of the chat messengers provide this facility to the users which makes interesting to the users while improving user friendliness and satisfaction. Options that would include are
    Take a photo
    Choose from albums
    Search from web
    Delete
That appears to be a reasonably robust selection. In search, a user can use a built in engine to pull up images based on search and then select it as it their choice. Once you chose an image, it will be asked to confirm and ‘set’ as the universal chat window for all contacts.

While we take into account the numbers of kudos an idea receives, we also consider the amount and quality of member feedback when making our decisions.

Wait!! If you about to post a reply to this thread this post is for you!
You guys who have posted obviously have not read the first sentence of the long OP, let alone the whole thing.
    This is the wrong place.
Post them here which is formatted for handling requests:

If you are asking questions about skype issues this thread is really the wrong place lol. Getting an answer to yoru question will require a little effort on your part.
    First go here:
    https://support.skype.com/en/
Read through that page, if you want to narrow it down and search, use the search.
Since the search targets all skype forums, include which OS you are on.
However since you all are probably on windows, click this link and use search or browse topics.
Do not post a new thread without using search. Look for forum topics marked as [Solved]. Doing otherwise spams the forum and is globally known as inappropriate and poor forum etiquette.
