Skype works no problem. iChat never works.

I have not done any configuring of my computer, router or airport for IM use. Having a video chat with someone who has not done this either on their Mac is impossible under iChat, yet the first time we did it in Skype it worked instantly.
Why should this be? What might we have to do extra? Why would Apple wnat to make it difficult in this way- no click and you're done?
Any help appreciated.

IChat never works for AV

I can never get ichat to work with the video or voice feature when trying to ichat with another mac user. I am able to msg them but when they or I try to request a video or audio chat it just says trying to connect or waiting for other party to accept but they never get the request. Although I do get requests from another person to start an av chat I accept but for the other person it just says waiting for user (me) to connect and never does
I have even tried ichatting on the same local network with no firewalls on either machine but still no luck. I have forarded all the appropriate ports. Neither machine has osx's firewall turned on.

This problem seems to be ubiquitous around the world. I am currently in Australia and trying to help a friend to overcome this problem.
I believe the underlying problem is the Quality of Service features implemented in v3 with Tiger. Reference the following help page:http://www.mvldesign.com/videoconferencetutorial.html, and the discussion on Quality of Service. Although they reference that the message "Insufficient bandwidth" comes up when the ISP improperly configures his router, I think that the other message "name not responding" also comes up under this condition.
I had my friend in Australia who could not connect with his ISP bring his iMac G5 down to my son-in-laws house who has been successfully using iChat AV with me in the US using a different ISP. When my friend connected using my son-in laws ISP all the problems went away.
Bottom line: some ISPs have not or do not know how to configure their server for QOS to allow iChat AV traffic to pass. Even if you talk to tech support at the ISP you may often encounter someone who is not sufficiently knowledgeable and you run up against a brick wall. The only solution is to change ISPs and I would reccomend that you have your ISP commit to install and support you until iChat AV can be demonstrated, before you sign a contract.

Worker Role problems (doesn't work without debugging)

I upgraded the OS Version up to 3 last week and everything worked OK. But yesterday worker role stopped working. Windows Azure manager showed that service started up OK. I tried to find problem in code and found out that Worker Role works just great during
the debug only.

Thank you for advice. I copied the exact connection string from the Azure Management Portal and Worker Role started to work.
Old connection string was:
connectionString="Data Source=xxx.database.windows.net;Pooling=false;Initial Catalog={dbName}; User ID={userName}; Password={password};"
The new one is:

Anyway sometimes (very rarely... once in a 2-3 hours) I get next error:

Nano Problems Turned it on, worked fine. Later never worked help!

Please help, everyday I got to school listening to my ipod. It is a nano, well i was listening to it perfectly and turned it off and kept it on the hold button. After school was over i decided to turn it back on, and nothing happened. Except I saw half of the apple logo and thats it. I guess it wasnt a good Idea to keep it in my bookbag, but i really need to get it fixed. I tried restarting it, holding it for 6-10 seconds and all, but it doesnt help! Please PLease PLease is there anyone out there that can help me?

Never got iChat to work a single time in 4 years

I got my first mac in 2006 and always wanted to use iChat instead of Skype because of the feeling I get that Apple products must be easier to use than others'
But over the years, I've tried using iChat from around 10.4.5 up until 10.6.1 and never succeeded. I have had 2 macbooks in that time, different ISPs, different routers, DMZ, Google Talk, .Mac, AIM, MobileMe, I've tried it all. I tried dialling out from different countries on different continents. I never got it to work a single time while Skype hardly ever fails (except that AT&T seems to block Skype to landline calls). While I am an avid mac user and have converted about 10 of my friends to switch over to mac already, I must say that using Skype on Windows almost never fails to do what it's supposed to.
Before even querying about the technical problems, I think it's fairly reasonable to accept that this is beyond a technical issue if a software that is supposed to help sell mac hardware never worked on such a multitude of different circumstances.

I find it hard to believe you have gone 4 years without getting iChat to work.
I am no pro but I have never had a problem with my iChat.
Like my 2000 Powerbook and airport I have found that I could wireless network my house in 2000.
The same with iChat I have never had a problem and enjoyed the AV version right from day one.
I think that is 6 years ago now.
Ichatting with people in full screen video for last 6 years on the other side of the world. You can't beat that.
One early thing I discovered was adjustments or checks of the firewall tohave it allow iChat on certain ports. As for a comparison with Skype it is obvious you have not experienced iChatAV at all because you would find it hard to use Skype after the quality and size and clarity of iChat AV.

Don't worry about sounding like a MSkype advocate you don't know any different and don't worry about being critical or asking for help. Apple users are the most critical of their own product.
That means that if you find a problem don't put up with it for 4 years. The problem is bound to be well checked out in advanced and engaged in forums exploring the solutions.
So persist and enjoy the technology.

You probably don't need it, but the Tiger "iSight Updater" is located in the \System\Library\CoreServices\iSight Updaters\iSight Updater folder.
(You must look manually because SpotLight does not find it.)
Double click the "iSight Updater" there to run the Firmware update manually.

iSight "Product Revision Level" in your Mac's System Profiler shows the installed firmware version for external (Firewire) iSight.
Firmware 1.0.3 Update offers only "Improved audio performance". It does NOT enable audio or any other function, so that is NOT your problem with Skype or YMM. Search or post in their dedicated help/discussions for best and quickest help with those specific, non-Apple apps.
Regardless of whether System Profiler utility shows Firewire iSight's Firmware (Product) level of 1.0.2 or 1.0.3, external iSight ought to work. You can test your external iSight using the suggestions on this linked page:

This is not a feature of iPhone, iPad or iOS.
Bluetooth is supported for stereo headsets/speakers, handsfree telephone
devices/headsets, some keyboards, some peer-to-peer apps from the
app store and internet tethering where provided by the carrier.
Other than this it will not connect to a phone/computer/device. (thanks to ckuan for the wording)

I would guess the fan is the cause of the noise. Suggest you take a look at it.

Hey this is totally weird. I haven't done jailbreak at all and I won't But how is possible that default apps such as Safari and Appstore have the problem I've mentioned before and Skyfire works perfectly without any trouble.
So to sum up:
Safari: loading stucks after few seconds on wi-fi, mostly doesn't load pictures
Appstore: loading stucks after few seconds on wifi and it keeps saying "loading"
Facebook and Youtube: doesn't load pictures
SKYFIRE: loads everything without any trouble
and completely everything works on Edge...
So tell me W.T.F. :-D

If your Internet Explorer is broken, then the same will be the case with Skype.
Try now to uninstall IE11 and let Windows to revert your Internet Explorer to the previous IE10 or IE9 version.
In order to uninstall IE11 you should go to Windows Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> View installed updates -> Microsoft Windows -> Internet Explorer 11.

Got iChat to work, just one little problem...

After a long period of constantly getting the message: couldn't connect because 'user' didn't reply", I've managed to get iChat to work again - sort of. I set my outgoing port to 443 under Accounts, and in my router configurations. There is just a small problem, it seems I have to restart my router for it to work - every time.
If I restart my router, then iChat will gladly open a videochat afterwards, and it works every time I start a new chat, until I quit iChat. If I quit iChat and then start up iChat again, it won't work, and I'll get the same 'didn't reply' error message. If I restart the router again however, it will work again.
Just wondering if anyone knows why this is or what can be done about it.
iChat used to work a treat for me every time, until I installed a Tiger update, I believe it was 10.4.3 - then everything stopped working properly in iChat...
Would appreciate if there were any tech-savvy iChat users out there. I haven't been able to use iChat properly for months (without having to restart the router every tim- which I just figured out) Thanks!

It sounds as if you router isn't responding to UPnP commands correctly. Some routers have UPnP but are not certified.
You may want to consider setting a static IP address on your MAC, then port forwarding the correct ports in your router to you mac.
