Sleep awake button goes on and off

My iphone 4g sleep awake / power button didn't function for almost 2months, but worked again after using iTools 2012 clean device. It fell and the button didn't work again, repeated iTools clean device but this time, no luck. Any help, or is it hardware related issue.

It turns out it was a faulty charger.

Your problem is that your iPod is not sensing that your headset is inserted. There is a pin inside the headphone port on the Nano that senses if it is inserted fully. If it does not sense anything, it will pause playback to save battery power when the screen dims. Here are the solutions:
Insert it fully. This will fix it for most of you. Press that thing in there all the way. You should feel and hear a full click when it is fully seated. If you can see ANY silver of the headset jack, it is not fully inserted.
Debris inside the headset port. If you are totally unable to push the headset jack all the way, the most likely problem is that you have crud inside your headphone jack. Try blowing it out or slapping it against your palm with the headset port facing your palm to try and get the stuff out. If you look into he jack with a light, you should be able to see to the bottom. The entire inside of the headset port is white, so if it looks dark at the bottom, that is the crud that is keeping your nano from working.
Headset jack or plug issue. If you cannot solve the problem with 1 or 2, then there is likely something physically wrong with either the headset jack on your headphones or the headset port on the nano.
If none of the above works, you need to take it to the Apple store or wherever you purchased it. I think they are still under warranty.

    - If you did not charge the iPod for a couple of hours before you did the reset then charege and reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then connect to your computer and if iTunes sees the iPod restore via iTunes.
    - Next see if recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • HT201412 my iphone 4 is not turning on even after long pressing home and sleep/awake button together. plz help me to resolve this issue bcoz i am unable to use my phone.

my iphone 4 is not turning on even after long pressing home and sleep/awake button together (about 10-60 sec).

Crap. That's what I was afraid of...Well, since I'm away from home and not near my pc, it sounds like I'm out of luck. The problem is that I need my phone to be at least functional for making and receiving calls. There's an apple store nearby. Perhaps I can go there and have them restore it and at least I'll be able to make and receive calls until I get home and restore from my backup. Does that sound feasible, or am I missing something?
P.s. I tried to click "correct answer" and accidentally hit "helpful". Sorry about that...

  • 3GS sleep /awake button failure and vibrate only works intermitantly

I have a 3gs that the sleep/awake button wont work all of a sudden and the vibrate only works intermitantly. Phone has been well taken care of and has not been dropped to my knowledge. Restored phone to no avail.
    Any ideas.

  • Sleep/Awake Button not working

My Sleep/Awake button has stopped functioning completely. Any suggestions?

Well turning off and on really isn't "turning off". Turning off is really like "hibernation" on a laptop, I would normally "reboot" it with the two button approach before it stopped working.
But that is besides the point. I never see a need to "turn it off" so not really a big deal. I have had to set the autolock to 1 min (use to have it higher as I would lock it manually when I was done with phone before). So that is a bit annoying. I also cannot tell the phone to ignore call or silence ring (press once when a call comes in to silence, press twice to drop them to voice mail at that moment). But at least I can flip the silent switch and just let it vibrate if I don't want to answer. I also cannot do a screen shot.
All no big deal, but I hate I cannot "reboot" the phone. When things start to get sluggish or an app(s) acts up, a reboot is the cure all 99% of the time. For me, I cannot. So either I have to live with it until eventually if there is an app issue that compounds, it will reboot itself eventually, or I have to do a restore (really doesn't take that long). Those the current version of the OS is better than earlier ones about getting messed up that a reboot is needed (I have had iPhone since day one of original so went through all versions of the OS).

  • Soft reset without sleep/awake button?

My iTunes music player has been frozen for a few days and I can't get it working again.  I would like to try a soft reset but my sleep/awake button also isn't working.  Any ideas how to get around this?
    Thanks

"Enable Assistive Touch:  Tap SETTINGS, General, Accessibility, AssistiveTouch (near the bottom) and tap AssistiveTouch to ON.  You will now notice a small dark square with a circle in the middle (you can move this square anywhere).  Tap the dark circle to open the assistiveTouch menu, then tap Device and tap and HOLD the Lock Screen icon.  This will bring up the iPhone's Power-Off slider - no need for a power button any longer!  **Voted Best Method to turn off an iPhone with a broken power button"
and to restart just keep on charging your phone would start.
    cheers guys have fun..

  • Sleep/Awake button in shrinking to the left

    Hello,
I just bought my iPhone 3G S and I used it for a while ( 2 weeks ) and I was shocked today when I saw that the sleep/awake button is shrinking toward the left. Any one experienced the same issue? is it an issue to worry about? because I have heard that some people are having their phone to hang up calls because of the sleep/awake button.
    This pic shows my situation

    Please advice,
    Thanks,
    Rashid

    Hello,
Oh yeah? Well I have been reading about this issue for a bit now and I saw that many users complain about this issue while still no proper replay from Apple yet. I'm a bit concerned with the case which the phone goes to sleep randomly " which happened with the iPhone 1st Gen" and I guess that maybe this is the actual case. Well, to be on the safe side, I have downloaded 3rd party application which allow me to reboot, sleep, shutdown my iPhone without the actual need to the sleep awake button at least for know until I assure that this case is completely normal.

  • How can I stop my screen from going on and off when I play games ?

HOw can I stop my screen from going on and off all the time when I touch it.

Maybe it is a hardware problem, but you will not know that unless you start eliminating all possible software issues. Try this. Close all apps in the recents tray and reboot your iPad.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Controlled outlets going on and off on APC Battery Backup UPS 1080

This may be a strange place to report this issue (I have posted it in the APC forums) but I am wondering if anyone here has an idea.... because the behavior seems indicative of my iMac cycle awake and asleep again.
I have a  Backup UPS NS 1080 made by APC. There is some strange behavior with the controlled outlets since I have upgraded to Mac OSX Yosemite. I have set the threshold repeatedly (twice with the tutelage of APC support folks on the phone). The second time we plugged a floor lamp into the controlled outlet and it went on and off repeatedly after we set the threshold. I have set the threshold both with the computer (a late 2013 iMac)  asleep and turned off. Yet, nothing seems to work. APC thought perhaps the unit was faulty and replaced it, but the problem persists with the new unit... computer asleep and the controlled outlet(s) are going on and off. Only a problem because I have the computer speakers plugged into one of the controlled outlets and I can hear the subwoofer loudly "pop" when it turns on and off while the computer is asleep... a pain.
Any ideas how to resolve this?
    Thanks.

You could overload the circuit, but your MP has 865W PSU and needs more 1200VA or above.
Don't overload a circuit, and don't have an A/C or your fridge on the circuit. Not sure what you can do or get an extension cord designed for window air conditioner (15A , flat, grounded, and very heavy duty).
Take a look at APC knowledge base perhaps. Or put the fridge on a line conditioner??? more to keep any noise or to reduce the effect of its power cycling. Old? new? check it with one of those Kill-A-Watt devices and see what is pulls.
Take a look and there are excellent threads on UPS all the time. Yes, you need to upgrade to APC's RS1500VA or you could go with the LCD RS1300VA.
Personally, I have an older XS1500 for peripherals that use to handle my G4, and RS1500 that handles MP and monitor, router. Both are on a new circuit but using two plugs on same outlet, but nothing else on this circuit.
Oh, and audio and such... keeping RFI and noise should be essential, no?

  • E63 GOING ON AND OFF

I flashed my E63 but after flshing it could not work proberly,it keeps going on and off after every 5min.anybody who can help me.

That's not a known issue. For starters, I would try and reflash the phone to eliminate the possbility that the first flas was bad. Take out the SIM card first and any memory cards you might have in it. Hopefully, it will remain on long enough for the update to start. If that doesn't work or you can't get the phone to stay on lng enough, try a reset. Here's a link to that discussion:

  • How do you fix a malfunctioning sleep/awake button?

  • My iphone 4 is frozen on the slide to unlock screen. ive tried the sleep/awake button home button but it doesnt work can someone help me :)

my iphone 4 is frozen on the slide to unlock screen. ive tried the sleep/awake button home button but it doesnt work can someone help me

By the slide to unlock screen, are you talking about the slider at the bottom of the screen after taking out of sleep mode?
And by trying the sleep/wake button and home button, are you talking about a reboot by holding both the power/sleep button and the home button until the apple logo appears and it reboots?  And that does not help release the issue with the slider?
Are you sure the iPhone is well charged?
If none if this helps, have you tried syncing/backing up to a compter and then restore by iTunes on a computer?
If you cannot do any of this it would be good to schedule a visit to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs try their hand and diagnostics.

Since you don't say how old your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...
You are now in a perfect position to do a
    SMC RESET

    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
It is the 5 second timing that initiates the reset.

  • Sleep awake button moving side to side

My Sleep awake button is moving side to side and it's so annoying right now I am in Oman and there is no services available I need online support using my email.
Is there any way I can fix this while I am here in Oman because I am very busy most of the time also the home button is starting to not work properly too..
Any help please contact me asap

as far as the physical button is concerned there is nothing you can do to fix it period you will have to take it into an apple store in the country you purchased the phone in for service if its a problem..
as far as the home button not working
to be honest these are the solutions that may or may not work..
first thing I would try is rebooting the phone by holding the sleep/wake button and home button for 15 seconds until you see the white apple logo
if that doesn't work I would restore from backup and if that doesn't work I would restore as new if all else fails take it to your closest apple store they may replace the phone for a working one..
