Slide Show Parameters - Duration of Still

Hi Gang
Just need a jump start to resetting the length of time for Video in the Browser. I'd like this new parameter, (5 Seconds), to be used for all Stills/Photos inserted on the timeline.
It's for a simple slide show
Thanx
Mike

I still fairly new to FCE, but if you go to preferences there is a tab for all imported Photo's/Still, and you can specify the default duration of these.

  • OT: DVD Slide Show - How to do still-frames?

I want to make DVDs containing my photos, so that I can inflict them on
family members and other unfortunates. I have not yet been able to discern
if any of the commercial packages allow for the creation of still-frame
shows - if that is the correct term to describe what I want.
I have commercial DVDs which, as extra content, contain documentary
collections of still images. These groups of images appear to be
single-frame images, and do not automatically advance -- they require the
user to press the Skip button to see the next image.
THAT's what I want to do... have the slideshow require a manual advance, so
that each photo could be viewed for as long (or short!) as desired, before
    moving on to the next.
Of course, I would also want to create traditional "moving" slideshows as
    well, when desired.
Can anyone advise with regard to this quest?
    TIA,
    Byron

    Byron,
To the best of my knowledge, Photoshop Elements will not allow you to create DVDs of any sort - let alone whether it is possible to manually advance your way through a collection of stills.
PSE's primary purpose is as an image editor and since version 3 as an image organiser. Sure it has a few bells and whistles that allow you to present your images in a vareity of ways, but it is not strong in this area. Maybe that is why there isn't a great response to your orginal post.
I do know that Adobe Premier Elements allows you to create DVDs and once installed, there is an option on the file menu in organiser that allows you to send images direclty to PrEl.
Once again however, I would advise caution. Premier Elements is a cut down video editing suite, so it might be overkill for your needs and have a steeep learning curve!
Many people have mentioned a product called Proshow Gold in here. I don't use it and so cannot comment personally, but plenty of people like it and if I recall correctly, you will be able to create DVDs.
    Best of luck

  • Transition selection for slide show.

Photoshop Album Starter edition 3.2 Windows XP. I could create custom slide show. I can still select duration of each slide but the transition period and transition mode fails. Shows error code c0000005, address 60cbb2af. Any idea what to do?

    Hi Evert,
Can you tell me two things:-
    1) Which slideshow you are talking about - PDF slideshow or FullScreen Slideshow.?
    2) Where is option to customize slideshow is present.
I do not see anty option in PASE 3.2 to customize slideshow like setting of transition period and transition mode etc.

  • Problem partly solved: iPhoto slide shows on iPod

I have had my iPod 60 GB for a couple of days now and was first a bit shocked that iPhoto slide shows are not visible and displayable on the iPod, since I'd like to show my iPhotos thru the iPod on a TV set.
This is all the more non-understandable since slide shows are only small control files in the end that control order, duration, transitions etc. of slides that are physically there on the iPod already.
Since I want pictures to be displayed on an iPod slide show in a particular order (the one I arranged in iPhoto) I tried different things (after not having found a solution in various forums) and, voila, here is a solution:
Just put the images you want to include in the iPod slide show into an iPhoto album (not into a slide show; iPhoto albums are shown on the iPod, while iPhoto slide shows aren't). Then rearrange the order of the pics within the iPhoto album to your heart's content via drag and drop. This at least works in iPhoto 6, don't know whether this applies to earlier versions.
Finally, sync the iPod via iTunes, and you'll find your album with the correct order of pics on the iPod, playable of course as an iPod slide show.
So, I still don't see my older iPhoto slides shows, which is a pity, but at least for now and the future (until Apple provides an upgrade to iPhoto and/or iPod, HELLO, APPLE, someone awake??) it works for me.
I hope this helps some of you who were as desperate as I was...

The timing is probably not ignored but it is likely that transitions are applied differently on the tv and may take a different length of time to occur. Still the effect is the same and unfortunately it's not too pretty. Which is why I chose to stick with simply syncing photos and not slideshows a long time ago.

  • IMac won't let me make any more slide shows in iPhoto.  I have 35.  Is there a limit?

I have been making slide shows on my iMac for years and all of a sudden when I go through the procedure, the newly named show doesn't show up in the list of slide shows.  I can still make albums, but not slide shows.  What's the deal?  I have made 35 slide shows.  Is there a limit?

Did you resolve this?  Would reinstalling iPhoto correct the problem?  If I try to reinstall would I lose all my photos etc.

  • In elements 11, I would like to know more about slide shows. Specificly individual slide duration.

In elements 11, I would like to know more about slide shows. Specificly individual slide duration.

    Donald,
There are two ways to address Still Image Duration. One is global, and applied before Import. One would determine the approximate Duration desired, go to Edit>Preferences>General>Still Duration. Then, all Stills Imported will have that Duration (as will Titles, and New Items, like Black Video).
Once that general Duration has been set, one can still, and on an Image by Image basis, click + drag on the Still Image's Head, or Tail, to adjust the Duration. When doing that, I like to have the Info Panel open and visible, to see exactly what Duration I have changed to.
    Good luck,

  • I'm trying to share to Media Browser a 20 minute still slide show with music and text. I have tried several times to save at 1080 HD, but just before it's finished, a message box pops up saying "File already open with write permission."  What's this mean?

I'm trying to finalize/share to Media Browser a 20 minute still slide show with music and text. I'd like to finalize it 1080 hd and have tried several times, but just before it's finished, a message box pops up saying it can't be done because "File already open with with write permission."  What does this mean?  All files are closed; this iMovie project is the only thing open.  Does it mean one of the song files from iTunes? And should I just settle for saving it as a "large" file, which is what I'm trying right now?
    Thanks,

  • Can I mimic a 'slide show' of stills and videos with this technique

I want to be able to mimic an old fashioned slide show on a Blu-ray disk, except that each 'slide' – I'll call them items – could be a true still, or a still with pan/zoom, or even a short video. Whatever a particular item is, I want to click a button and the show advances to the next item. If the next item is a video, the video pauses on the last frame when it is finished.
Just like the old magazine full of slides, imagine a folder full of items – some may be stills, some videos. After importing into Encore, setting up the navigation and menus, and then burning to Blu-ray, I want to be able to play them in sequence at the press of the Enter button.
I'm pretty much a novice with Encore, and to save spending more time reading the manual, I thought I'd ask if I can mimic a slide show in Encore with the technique described below. I got the idea from page 152 of the PDF manual:
The buttons on a menu are the primary navigation tool for the viewer. They control how the viewer steps through the project. Each button in a menu must lead to another menu, a timeline, a chapter, a playlist, a chapter playlist, or a slide show.
My limited experience with Encore is to set up a series of videos on a single timeline, and generate one menu with a "Start" button on it. When the Blu-ray starts up, the Start screen appears and stays there until I press Enter. Works well.
A slide show of stills using buttons only
So I thought: to generate my old-fashioned slide show (ignore videos for the moment), I would use the buttons themselves as the stills, taking my queue from the quote above: "Each button in a menu must lead to another menu…". My slide show would consist of jumping from one menu to the next. This leads to my first question:
Q1: Is it possible for a menu to have a full-screen button, call it the Image Button, that is actually the still image that is desired to be shown? So the viewer sees the Image Button, thinks it's the image (which it is), but it is actually a button. When the viewer presses Enter, the button activates and goes to the next menu which also happens to be the next full-screen image. The viewer is jumping from Image Button to Image Button, with the buttons filling the screen and being the actual images.
    A slide show including videos
To include a video in the slide show, the destination when Enter is pressed would be a timeline with the appropriate video. At the end of this video, the navigation would lead to a menu which has an Image Button of the last frame of the video. The effect is that the video is paused on the last frame, waiting for the user to hit Enter to advance to the next item (still or video).
If there is an easier way to mimic a slide show of stills and videos, please let me know.

Stan – I posted 3 years ago in the Keynote Forums (I'm on Mac) about this sort of thing, knowing that eventually I would want to do it. The answer came back then that Keynote might have problems. So I've recently posted again about Keynote, but no responses as yet.
I expected problems with Encore and welcome some of them. Overcoming problems is the best way to become intimately involved with software.
I'm glad you asked why I don't just use Powerpoint (or Keynote in my case). Now's my chance to clarify my thoughts:
Macs do not upscale very well. Sometimes I may want to show part of a DVD. I've tested playing a DVD on my iMac versus on a Oppo BDP93, fed to a BenQ W7000 projector throwing a 3 metre image. There is an obvious difference in image quality because the Oppo, being hardware based, can interpolate in real time as it scales from 576p (PAL) to 1080P. DVD Player on my iMac simply magnifies the image, resulting in obvious pixellation.
Dissolves and complex effects in Premier challenge any software based h.264 player. I don't like to see decoding artifacts, for example, during a dissolve while a part of the image is also reducing in size, spinning, and disappearing into the distance. An extreme example, but an effect I used once. From my reading of blu-ray player reviews – and from my limited testing – all blu-ray players can easily handle the highest bit rates from a blu-ray disk.
I don't have a laptop so I'd have to buy one. I'd rather spend the money on a dedicated player if that route turns out to be suitable.
I don't trust computers for a presentation. Too unreliable. When I was showing multiscreen audio visuals in the 1980s (4-6 projectors), I always had a backup Tascam 4-track with me, back up soundtrack on tape, back up amp, and a backup slide projector. Even had a backup amp in the car. Speakers, well, if one failed I had two there anyway. With digital, to feel comfortable, I'd have to buy a second laptop. A good quality, backup Blu-ray player can be had for $100. And yes, I do have a backup W7000. I don't trust digital projectors either.
Running a presentation from a laptop always looks amateurish to me. Someone hunched over a tiny screen, fooling around with Windows or OSX. And usually it's all mirrored on the big screen for everyone to see. I'm never impressed. I want to replicate a cinema experience as closely as possible. Darkness, the audience hushed, and up comes the first image.
Any suggestions about automatically linking a whole heap of menus?

  • Best way to make a high quality slide show from still images

I know that this may have been asked before but i am trying to create a high quality slide show of my still images that will look great on a TV. I have tried imovie, idvd, and iphoto and i am not happy with the quality. i do own FCP. can anyone walk me through a way to create a high quality slide show and then burn it on IDVD.
    any info would be appreciated
    John
power mac g5 dual 2 gig   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

i usually lay everything out in FCP. if you're going to use music or voice overs, lay down your audio tracks as appropriate. then cut all of the stills to you audio to get the timing just right. don't do any motion graphics in FCP. then, when you're satisfied with the cuts, send the entire sequence to Motion and do all of your motion graphics (grow/shrink, spins, throws, fades).
i find that all of the motion effects can be done more easily in the Motion application. this has been my preferred workflow for over a half-dozen slideshows now.

  • I want manual duration for slide show - Remove music?

I have a slide show of six drop zones from iPhoto albums. I would like to have manual duration, but that choice is grayed out and not selectable. iDVD added the default music uninvited. I was able to set the volumes to minimum on both the title and slide shows but I think I need to get rid of the music completely to get the manual duration. But I can't seem to make that happen. Please help.

From the Help Menu in iDVD6:
    Setting slideshows to advance manually
Slideshows in iDVD advance to the next slide automatically, with each picture remaining on the screen for 3 seconds. If your slideshow doesn't have a soundtrack, you can set it to advance manually. Viewers can then click the Next or Forward button on the DVD remote control to advance to the next slide at their own pace.
To set a slideshow to advance manually:
    1. Double-click the button for your slideshow in the DVD menu to open the slideshow editor.
    2. Choose Manual from the Slide Duration pop-up menu.
    3. Click Settings and select "Display navigation arrows" if you want to display right and left arrows on the screen as a visual reminder to the viewer to click the Next button on the remote control to advance to the next slide.
    4. When you are finished, click the Return button to exit the slideshow editor.
    By sdmacuser at 2007-08-23
Works exactly the same way with photos shared from your iPhoto library (with the exception it reads "Library" as opposed to "Slideshow" when added to iDVD's entry Menu page).
Hope this helps but if not come on back.

  • Durations in Slide Shows

I cannot see how you adjust the duration of each slide in a slide show. The up and down arrows don't seem to work. Is it dependant on the number of slides and the total length of soundtrack? It's stuck on 4 secs all the time. Also the speed on the dessolve doesn't seem to appreciably change when I increase or decrease it. Any hints?

    Great Tip "OT",
Pref Setter IS indeed a cool utility, I just wish it worked for this particular problem I'm having with iPhoto 5... (Yes I was able to use Pref Setter to change the iPhoto default duration speed -- with no success in the end product -- I'm beginning to think I must have some sort of incompatibility that's unique only to my computer - since it doesn't seem like anyone else is having this problem)... I may just have to revert back to iPhoto 4.0.3, since I can at least get the slides' duration to set AND EXPORT to 1 second AND even LESS... However, I can't get the cool individual transitions and individual slide duration controls that iPhoto 5 offers... I'm going to keep trying and will definitely post - should I come up with a work-around for this unique problem R.

  • Still no EASY drag 'n drop solution adding music to slide show in iWeb

I wonder if there in the year 2008 - using iWeb '08 (2.0.2) - still doesn't exist an EASY drag 'n drop solution that within iWeb let's you add iTunes Plus songs (without DRM) to a slide show!?!?
I would like to add this to this little site about the band my daughter sings in:

I always wonder why in the year 2008 it's difficult to put a descriptive caption under a picture instead of DSC01991.JPG, DSC01992.JPG, DSC01993.JPG, DSC01994.JPG, DSC01995.JPG.

  • Slide Show: Slide duration - not fixed? PSE 6

I wish to create a slide show for a presentation. I do not wish to pre determine the duration for which each slide is shown. Ideally I just want to click the mouse - preferably right click for forward and left click for backward (v. v. OK too), without positioning my mouse on an arrow when I want to change a slide. Just like I would do with an old fashioned slide projector. Is this possible?
    Thanks.

bring the focus by clicking the first image by mouse. Then press right/left arrow on kwyboard achieves this. Let me know if you mean something different.

  • Changing Duration of Slide Show Photos In Aperture 3?

Just made my first slide show in Aperture 3. The program defaults all slide show photos to a display time of 3 sec. How do I change all the slides from 3 sec to something else?
    thanx

I played around with templates hoping that would bring forth some hidden "slide duration" controls...but no luck.
In iPhoto I can change the slide duration for each slide individually.
    For A3...this capability eludes me.
    Anyone figure this out yet?

  • Slide show duration in iPhoto

Is there a way to show the duration of the slide show in iPhoto?
I have been editing a fairly big slide show, 155 photos, and I now need to exactly match the audio track. Is there a way to vew the total time of the slide show?

    hello
I too have issues with iphoto and the slideshow. I created a slideshow, selected a 7 and a half minute song and chose (fit to music) and the movie it exported was over 11 minutes long. It also was less than 400 megabytes (so obviously a reference movie as it's rougly 1.8 gigs for a bout 9 minutes or so of DV) and when imported into imovie the transistions were not rendered smoothly ( the turned pages became jaggy and the pictures dimmed right before the turn). I have a brand new emac with everything upgraded (OS,imovie, iphotoand quicktime pro) Something isn't playing fair.
