Slow Broadband after 21CN Upgrade?

Before my scheduled 21 upgrade my download connection has been rock solid at 8000K for several years.  My whole recent experience with BT has been very disappointing and I hope you can throw some light on a solution.
So Far:
My Equipment:  BT2000 Faceplate, RJ11 to BT Homehub 1010, 1 Extension fitted (No Bell wire Connected).
Problem 1. Now resolved.  On the day of my appointment the engineer connected my dial tone and broadband to someone else’s line in the next village.  The fault call centre insisted the fault could only be in my property as the line tested OK and I would have to accept the possible charges.  Despite my requests for them to despatch an engineer to the exchange as it is more than a coincidence that my dial tone disappeared at the same time as my scheduled changeover they insisted I have an appointment.  The fault was cleared in the exchange by the visiting engineer.
Problem 2.  Now resolved. The engineer did not remove the call divert on my line and I missed my incoming calls for several days as my calls were diverted to a random number.  I tried #21# and this did not work, so I contacted BT again.  They informed me they could not remove the divert because they had not put it on. After investigation #61# managed to remove my divert.  When I asked why it was not removed when my line was fixed I was told that I must have put the divert on myself as it was done by someone with access to my line. The whole point that my line had been connected elsewhere was totally alien to the call centre worker.
Problem 3.  On going
After 14 days of Mediocare performance I was connected much slower speed than my old connection and as my profile was 4000k this is only half of my previous performance. (See Below)
1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download Speed
5959 Kbps
0 Kbps
4000 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speed achieved during the test was - 5959 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1200-4000 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :4603 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1251 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 16.4:29.53:54.07 (SBE:NBEBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload Speed
873 Kbps
0 Kbps
1251 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
>Upload speed achieved during the test was - 873 Kbps
 Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 1251 Kbps
So I call BT again and after I have established that the only changing parameter is the new 21CN upgrade I am promised that a request will be passed to the engineers to increase the profile........  The result is that they just reset my profile, so once again my speed fluctuates for several days from a virtual stop to slow.
It is now six days since reporting my slow speed problems after receiving several calls from BT to ask me if my speed has improved, I am finally a broken man today.
They insist that I have a broadband boost engineer, before I accept this, I ask several questions and failed to get any acceptable answers..
What is wrong with my broadband?  You have a fault in the property (change the record!!)
Why cannot you tell me the speed I am connected at.   You cannot WOOSH test me?  We cannot tell, we have to call you
Can I speak to the engineers?  You cannot Sir
Can I speak to your Boss?  No, why would you want to do that!
What have you done in the exchange to fix my fault?  We have changed some things
Do you thing it is acceptable to still have slow speeds after twenty days?  That's why you need a boost engineer
What are you going to do differently from all the other people I have spoken to to resolve my issue.  Nothing
So with no other option I accept that an appointment will have to be made again.  I am offered an appointment in the week, when I explain that I have business appointments and that I need a weekend appointment I am told none is available or would be available.  So I agree to a Monday appointment.  After the call I get a text to say I have an appointment has been made for Thursday!  So I have to call them back and ask for the appointment I have been promised and I am told it's a simple and easy mistake to press the wrong button, it happens quite often!!
I since read here that it may help to upgrade my homehub, so why have they not sent me a replacement days ago?

I know there are more important things going on in this world.  But my work, my ebay, my shopping, my banking, my social sites etc. all require bandwidth and to have it taken away disguised as an upgrade obviously upsets me.  I am shocked at the complete lack of communications, and the inability to listen and understand your customers.  What is the point of a call centre that can do NOTHING outside their script to help!

Not sure why my profile is still changing and why I was disconnected today, probably the call centre doing another line test.

  • Extremly slow BB After 21CN upgrade

On last wednsday exchange in Dungannon got a 21CN upgrade. I thougt yea  great news finally i'll get more than 9-10 Mbits. I must admit that before upgrade my bb was rock stable no problems at all ofc some minor dissconections occured during a 4 year period but it happens right? But after the Exchange upgrade my broadband is awfully slow it's almost like dial-up connection, i can't even do my work from home or use internet services which i've paid for upfront.
I've posted on forums recently i was told to leave my hub on 24/7 for few days, and it should solve my problem, since the line need to settle down after the updrade. But it's already 6th day after the upgrade and nothing changed .... well almost nothing ...
Here are the stats from my hub taken todays morning.

im very happy cuz finally i can send files to my employer faster also uploading stuff for my private use/backup is easier now but what the **bleep** is with downstream speed? i can understand that setting up new exchange equipment can take some time, same goes for stabilization of the line but how long do i need to have to wait till i'll get what i'm paying for?
P.S excuse my english it's not my native language
    Forgot to add speedtest results

I know exactly what you mean = probably find most people on the forum know the feeling.  the speed down is very low but as I said BT will not do anything while still in the training period.
if no change after 10 days training the contact mods for assistance  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951

  • Slow broadband after exchange upgrade

My exchange (Accrington) was recently upgraded. Prior to the upgrade I was getting approx 5.5Mb.
I was told that I would need to wait 10 days after the upgrade for re-training of my line.
After 10 days, my connection had dropped to 1.6Mb, so I called BT and was told that it was because I had a home hub version 1.0 and that it was incompatible with the upgraded exchage.
New version 2.0 Hub was sent to me and this has now been connected for 5 days. I also took the opportunity to move things arround so the new hub is connected directly to the master socket, there is no extension wiring and no telephone connected. (Master socket has BT broadband accelerator filter fitted)
I have used BT speedtest and got the stats from my hub. My IP Profile is no where near what it used to be, I would have expected this to rise after 5 days ?
Any suggestions as to what I should do now ?
By the way I am 456M from the exchange !

I have removed the filter, and I will leave it for a few days to see if I get any improvement.
The noise margin(down) actually increased slightly after removing it, is this to be expected ?

  • Slower speeds after 21cn "upgrade"

last saturday my internet went out (flashing orange light) and after 3 days they traced the fault to the fact that they were actually upgrading our exchange MRLOW lower peover to 21cn and i was told that when it all came back on i would be on 21cn broadband and my speeds would be alot faster than i was getting now so i was happy to wait. after 5days it came back on but my speeds are actually worse than before the upgrade. before i was synced at 2mb. could i get switched to the new and improved 21cn speeds please?
i was also told that after 3days of no broadband you can get that months broadband cost refunded as compensation, can i get that actioned too please?

you can see from the checker results the adsl2 increase is minimal if at all.  what's worse is if you had stability problems with adslmax then 21Cn will not help and may even make matters worse as it is far more aggressive on any line noise
looks like the fixed 2mb connection may still be best for you
as you appear to have dropped to a fixed 1mb connection I have asked mods to help and they will post a contact us link on reading this
After completing the email NOT PM then you join a queue of other customers waiting for mod help. The mods will get back to you in 3/5 working days either by phone or email

  • My Mab Book Pro has 4gb Memory , i want to upgrade it, since i am seeing my system slow down after i upgraded to OSx MOuntain LIon

    Hi
After i upgraded to 10.8.2 i am seeing my MAc got slow.
And my memory is 4gb , if i increase  the memory will the system become faster.
Can we get it done this in Apple store .OR without upgrading hte memory cna we make this ystem to run faster ?

No.  Installing RAM doesn't make a computer faster.
Can we get it done this in Apple store
Sure, but why pay for that when you can do it yourself.
without upgrading hte memory cna we make this ystem to run faster ?
Have you checked activity monitor to see if any apps or processes are takin up a large percentage of the CPU?

  • Slow phone after iOS4 upgrade? Try this...

I upgraded my iPhone 3G recently to iOS4, and experienced the general slowdown that others have reported. I also had problems with photos not displaying correctly. I deleted and reimported the photos, and that solved that problem, but the slowness and "lag" was still there.
I came across this tip in the misc.phone.mobile.iphone newsgroup:
    quote
My 3G was quite slow when I first upgraded to iOS4. But I followed some
advice on the Apple Support Forum. A combination of Settings -> General ->
Reset -> Reset All Settings, followed by a full shut down and restart did
    wonders to improve the operation.
    unquote
I haven't seen the source for this tip before so I wanted to pass it on.
Doing the reset as described above doesn't lose data, just some settings (Home screen, WiFi login key, 4 digit lock code etc.), but it has got rid of the lag when switching the phone on, and restored some of the pre-upgrade speed.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

Well, first you say that your phone is slow.  Then you state that your phone told you to remove unused apps.  Did you read my last post?  From what I've read, most phone performance issues are app related.  You either have too many apps running at once (most likely), have a third party app that is causing a problem (less likely), or there is something actually wrong with your phone (least likely).  As I stated, I noticed that my phone was slower than normal after installing OS6.  I was using OS6 just like OS5, but the difference is that the apps in OS6 seem to want to close differently.  So I had like 8 apps open at once, and that was my problem.
The first statement that you make is so vague that no one is going to be able to help you.  When is your phone slow?  What apps are you running during this time?  Do you have excessive apps open?  Is it slow all of the time or just sometimes?  What non BB apps (third party) are you running?  The 9300 also only has 256meg of ram, so that is going to make your application behavior that much more noticeable.
Try holding the ALT key down while pressing the BACK button (the one just to the right of the track pad) and that will show you which applications are running. You should see a minimum of 5 (home, phone, browser, messages, and messenger). If you see more than this, particularly if there apps open that you aren't using, this is likely a big contributor.  Close those apps and see the difference.  Just for fun, do a battery pull.
The second statement that you made is even more confusing because at no point in time would your phone ever tell you to uninstall something.  At least, not that I can think of.  What do you mean when you say the phone asked you to remove unused apps?

  • Slower download after network upgrade

    Hi,
I received an email from BT stating the following:
Good news. We’re rolling out our faster broadband and we’ll be upgrading our network in your area on 06-Aug-10. This’ll make the things you do online quicker.
Before the upgrade I was achieving a connection speed of approx. 7000/448 kbps. A few days after the upgrade I did see a brief improvement of around 7700/872 kbps. However for the last week or so I seem to be firmly planted at 5463/782 kbps.

  • MacBook Slow/Crashes after Lion Upgrade

MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) runs slow, crashes after update to Lion. Ran fine before. Now it crashes when it goes to sleep with screen saver running, sometimes takes multiple force-restarts to boot and seems to run out of RAM (menu bar disapears or a second when switching apps, lots of spinning beach balls). Can't run more than two CS4 apps at once.Aboiut 45 GB free on the 250 GB drive. Any ideas?

The "do not enter" sign is saying that you're computer cannot locate a hard drive to boot from. Turn on the machine with the option key down. See if the computer give you an option to select a hard drive. If it doesn't select it and it should boot from the selected hard drive. If it doesn't see any bootable hard drive, it usually means your hard drive is dead. In that case, go get a replacement and hopefully you backed everything up.

  • Slower performance after Mavericks upgrade

My Macbook Pro has been significantly slowed down by my upgrade to Mavericks. (Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i7) (Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3) (Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB) I can't watch a 2 minute video without long... long rendering pauses.  I get error messages and find the computer quits and starts again at random moments.  Loading apps is slower.  I am not talented technically and need some layman version of how to use time machine or other backup info to go back to my Mountain Lion IOS or how to fix this deterioration of my computer performance.  I have run the etresoft app to provide more info.  Unfortunately I am very much a novice at problem solving computer issues so if this is above my paygrade please feel free to send me to more competent sources..

Do you know the reason for using WiFi Utility? It is not part of OS X and may be contributing to the problem.
Assuming you have no reason to use it:
Navigate to the following folder by selecting the entire line (triple-click to select it), then control-click, and from the contextual menu that appears, select Services > Open:
    /System/Library/StartupItems/
Find the file WiFiUtilityStartUp and drag it to the Desktop. You will need to authenticate.
Next: Open System Preferences by selecting it from the  (Apple) menu, then select Users & Groups. Click the lock icon and authenticate, then click your User account. Select the Login Items tab, then select the item WirelessUtility. Delete it with the "–" (minus) button.
Next: Backup Engine is not part of OS X either, and is unrelated to Time Machine, which you are using. It may have been installed as part of a utility supplied by Seagate or other hard disk manufacturer. Such utilities should not be used on Macs. If you have no reason to use Backup Engine, delete it as well using the "–" button.
Quit System Preferences, log out, and log in again. Reply with your results.

  • Slow/ unreliable broadband after line upgrade

Approximemtly 2 months ago I received an email informing me that my phoneline was going to be upgraded to improve reliability and possibly speed and that it may take approximently 10 days for my line to settle. At this time I was recieving a steady broadband speed of around 3.5mbps. (Please note my router is the home hub 3 and is upgraded to the latest firmware).
The day after my line was upgraded the line seemed to be as good as before however this deteriorated and I am now recieving speeds that vary from 3mbps down to 1mbps and even 0.05mbps on one ocassion!
I tried contacting BT by phone however they didnt listen to me. They tried changing my router channel and then when my laptop, which I rarely use, wouldnt connect they said the wifi reciever on the laptop was to blame.
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar problem after a so called "upgrade" and if anyone has any ideas or solutions.
    Many Thanks

  • Slow broadband after upgrading from Homehub 2 to 4

Upgraded from our old, dependable Homehub 2 a couple of moths ago. Was offered Homehub 4. Since then, with nothing else changing, we found the speed to be a lot slower, both on wired (Ethernet) connections and with wireless. We have quite a few devices connected (3 PC's, 1 AppleTV box on Ethernet and a couple of IPad 2's, Wii and couple of phones on WiFi) but didn't have a problem before. I am seriously thinking about putting my Homehub 2 back. Can anyone throw any light or give any suggestions as to why we have these speed and connection issues? TIA<script charset="UTF-8" type="application/javascript" src="chrome://hdv/content/hdv.js"></script>

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Slow broadband since line upgraded

My boradband speed seems to have slowed. For example I can no longer use BBC iPlayer on my Smart TV or PVR. It may be an amazing coincidence, but it seems the speed went slower at around the time BT sent me an email telling me that they had upgraded my line (13th December 2011). The email said to give it a 10 days to settle, but after 2 months it does not seem to have improved.
BT Speed test say I am getting 1.7Mbps out of 2.3Mbps but it feels slower. uSwitch are showing me as the slowest boradband connection of any house in my street at 1.4Mbps download / 0.3 upload. My Neighbours are apparently getting 2Mbps to 3.1Mbps via BT (and over 5Mbps from other suppliers).
Here are the details from my BT broadband router in case they help...

    John

Thanks for speedy replies. Your assistance is appreciated and have followed the links and read the advice as best I could.
I plugged laptop directly into home hub (with Cat5) and did speed test and got the results below. This seems slower than I would have expected, but would value other peoples judgement.
    1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
    Download  Speed
    1.51 Mbps
    0 Kbps
    2 Mbps Max Achievable Speed
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1.51 Mbps  For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 800 Kbps-2 Mbps.  IP Profile for your line is - 1.52 Mbps
    2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
    Upload Speed
    304 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    832 Kbps Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 304Kbps  Additional Information:  Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 832 Kbps
We were unable to identify any performance problem with your service at this time. It is possible that any problem you are currently, or had previously experienced may have been caused by traffic congestion on the Internet or by the server you were accessing responding slowly. If you continue to encounter a problem with a specific server, please contact the administrator of that server in the first instance.
Then I did a “quite line test” and heard only the faintest hints of noise.
Then I plugged home hub into the master socket, and did repeat “quite line test” and again heard very similar low levels of noise. Then I got the ADSL info from hub again, with following results:
    ADSL line status
    Connection information
    Line state
    Connected
    Connection time
    0 days, 0:06:52
    Downstream

    Loss of Framing (Local)
    52
    Loss of Signal (Local)
    5
    Loss of Power (Local)

    CRC Errors (Down/Up)
    0 / N/A
    HEC Errors (Down/Up)
    N/A / 29
    Error Seconds (Local)
    12434
Even I can spot that this is different. Although I am not 100% sure what all the differences means, the Noise Margin is now better (6dB+). If understand what I have read this is good/OK. Given this I repeated the speed test (an hour after first one), with following results:
    1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
    Download  Speed
    1.76 Mbps
    0 Kbps
    2 Mbps Max Achievable Speed
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1.76 Mbps  For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 800 Kbps-2 Mbps.  IP Profile for your line is - 1.78 Mbps
    2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
    Upload Speed
    286 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    832 Kbps Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 286Kbps  Additional Information:  Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 832 Kbps
I then carried on with some sort of QoS testing it offered and got the following:
    1. Assured Rate Test: -provides background information.
    Download Speed
    1.85 Mbps
    0 Kbps
    0 Kbps Max Achievable Speed
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1.85 Mbps  For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0 Kbps-0 Kbps .  Additional Information:  Assured Rate IP profile on your line is - 0 Kbps
We were unable to identify any performance problem with your service at this time.
Given the above, it looks to me that some part of the problem is the internal phone wiring / noise beyond the master socket. Is that how others read this?
I also think that even going to the master socket I am still getting relatively slow download speeds compared to neighbour on the same exchange – and so that needs investigating too.
    Cheers,
    John

  • CPU and GPU slow down after system upgrade

Ok, I can't find anything similar to the question I have...but this forum goes on forever
As my system specs appear below, my machine was running quite comfortably a week ago, with same setup...minus the acrylic case and second 120GB hard drive.
    At that stage I had "nomal" benchmarking scores 3dmark03 - 5850, Aquamark3 41.000, PC mark 2002 - cpu7020 mem8438 hdd1050.
Life was good and I loved my system
Then I decided it would be cool to upgrade to an acrylic case (which has better cooling with 3 fans) and a second 120 GB HDD to make a striped raid array.
My first concern was the raid Array. I was carefull to buy the exact same seagate hard drive, size etc. the original was only a month old anyway. The second was to use the intel southbridge chip for SATA RAID or the Promise controller? After researching these forums I decided to go with the Intel as it has more possible bandwidth and doesn't sit on the PCI bus.
I got the new case and wearing those stupid white gloves, proceeded to move the components over and trash my "old" metal case.
The windows NTFS format (full) flew by in 30 seconds and I was really impressed.
Once windows xp and all it's drivers and updates were installed, incl sound and graphics etc. I did a 3Dmark 2001 test before upgrading to Dx9...what a bad mark! 3Dmark2001SE - 9950 (terrible for this system).
    I thought it was a DX problem...so I installed Dx9
Then opened that corecenter program (the old one, the one that doesn't crash...)
and my CPU was about 5c hotter than usual, it was running at 40-42c (I have standard intel cooling fan). It went up to 55 at times when running PC mark 2002.
This didn't concern me too much a the system was stable at 32-34c and the northbridge read 60c (but we all know that's not true , more like 35ish.
    My PC mark 2002 is now cpu4200 - mem4800 - hdd1800
(at least the HDD improved!) LOL
    I ran Aquamark3 next...29,900 (ouch!)
Previously my CPU was 8,700 and GPU was 5300
now the CPU read 4400 and the GPU 4600
I don't really notice the speed loss when working, but games and benchmarks tell a different story.
So, My question: What has happened? Why is my CPU power cut in half? and the graphics card slightly slower? The memory speed stayed the same and the HDD speed improved....not a worthwhile upgrade IMO
    What went wrong?
    Here are my theories.
    1) The CPU and system case is getting too hot
Does the CPU "throttle" when it overheats? this could be the reason.
Also both HDD get really hot and the fan in front blows air over them, this hot air could be going over the CPU or GPU. Maybe get 2 HDD coolers?
should I buy a better CPU cooler like the Thermaltake spark7+ ?
    2) The PSU does not have enough watts
I couldn't find traces of voltage lack or spikes...but it could still be a problem
    3) The RAID0 array is a strain on the CPU and chipset
      I'm not sure about this.
My appologies for the lengthy thread, but I wanted to be sure that anyone trying to figure this out had as much info as possible
Thanks if u can help me figure this out.

Perhaps I should upgrade the overall cooling. Get a Thermaltake copper fan and two HDD coolers.
Well, your temps sound allright, no need to worry them, if they really operate at that level.

The solution to set the FSB to 201Mhz sounds good. But do I set this in the BIOS or with Corecenter in windoze?
Propably meant to adust your FSB at BIOS, at least that is what I would suggest.

I will try to re-install the VGA drivers because something strange DID happen when I first installed them. I started with the hercules driver CD, this installed CAT 3.2 drivers. I then upgraded to CAT 3.7 and before it completed I got an error window (send, dont send).
Remove drivers AND ATI control panel first, and then re-install. Use drivers from ATI site, and rather Catalyst 3.7. I Have had problems with 3.8 Catalysts.

Still wouldn't explain why the CPU seems so crippled. I have managed to get a "normal cpu score of 7000+ in PCmark2002 by shutting down, restarting later and killing every process except explorer.
Do you have any processes that seem to eat more juice thant hey should?  Arrange your processes by CPU usage and see if there is something strange.

If this cant be fixed I will reinstall over the weekend. Does anyone know of the RAID0 array on the southbridge causing a system slowdown?
I'm using Intel RAID and it works perfectly, no extra CPU usage is shown and it's pleasantly fast!
And Install latest Intel INF updates and Application Accelerator from Intel site. That's what I'm using, and works fine.

  • Slow processing after ios8 upgradation

After downloading ios8 my iphone 4s processing is affected.   Is it due to operating system...?

    Hi sushilgullu,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the scope of the issues you are describing. If you are having slowness or lagging issues with multiple apps on your iPhone after a recent upgrade to iOS 8, you may want to first try resetting your device:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If you are still having issues after a reset, you may want to make sure you have a current backup of your data in iTunes, then try restoring your iPhone to factory settings and testing it in that default condition to see if the issues persists before restoring your data. You may find the following article helpful:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • Slow broadband after a line fault

    Hi,
I recently returned from a week's holiday and found my broadband was dropping out almost every few minutes and was incredibly slow. I also had no dialling tone on my home phone line.
An Openreach engineer called this morning and found that a very old extension wire running through the house was causing the problem. He disconnected the troublesome wire, and now I have a good phone line and a stable broadband connection (connected for over 3 hrs without a problem).
However, the broadband is still very, very slow - the downstream is only 239kbps.
I have very little knowledge about broadband technology, but after a few hours researching I seem to have reached the conclusion that the reason for this is the connection kept dropping out whilst I was away on holiday. This has caused my IP profile to be set at 135kbps (determined by using the BT speed checker). A lot of the forums say that the IP profile will return to normal once the line has been stable for 3-10 days.
So, I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance that after a few days the line will return to normal.
If anyone can set my mind at rest, I'd be most grateful.
    Phil
