Slow logons on windows 2012 server and windows 7 sp 1 devivce

Hello everybody,
I've a windows user reporting slow logons on one of our clients.
The domain is a 2012 domain and the device with the issue is a windows 7 sp1.
The winlogon message event ID 6005 appears (winlogon taking too long to handle notification request)
Also NETLOGON message event id 5719 saying can not secure channel with the DC, because there're no one available).
Profile is not set to roaming.
The system logs are uploaded to this link:
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=2CDBBADCC474A82C!241&authkey=!AM99cXm2AaNp8Wg&ithint=folder%2czip
Resetting the password of the computer object is succesfull but I can not be resetting the password now and then.
The GP setting for process login scripts synchronously is not configured.
The GP setting that makes the computer wait for the network set to 0 then causes a temp profile to be loaded.
Please help me I don't know what else to do.
Regards

Hello Britt,
Thanks a lot for answering.
Looking at the DNS server found no reverse lookup zone configured. I didn't setup the server so I didn't know that. I did a search and AD seems to have no problem with that.

hi. i have a windows 2012 server and it keeps closing after 30 mins...i am connected thru RDP and have looked everywhere online for a tutorial to change the setting that keeps closing it but can't find it anywhere! please help!

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Have you check the timeout and reconnection setting for RDP?
Does disconnection happens on active session or Idle session?
We can configure the setting by collection properties or by GPO setting.
On collection Properties check the Timeout Tab and set the setting according to your requirement. On GPO we can find this setting on below mention path and check according to it.

  • Windows 2008 Server and Windows 8 clients

    Hey Guys,
I have had this problem for sometime now and really need a solution. I have Windows 2008 Enterprise Server running about 200+ terminal services clients. All Windows XP clients are fine, Windows 7 clients have issues when they get an updated version of
remote desktop client(to solve the issue we simply rollback the update), Windows 8 clients cannot connect and use out remote app. The issue stems from the newer version of remote desktop client (on windows 7 and embedded in windows 8) cannot connect to our
terminal server and generates an error and immediately disconnects. The error says "
Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer that you want
    to connect to
So my questions are, how can i update my Windows 2008 Terminal server version to support these clients, or do u have migrate to Windows 2012? Or is there a solution to my current problem which will allow my client to connect and use the remoteapps?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Please follow the below steps and verify result.

  • Downgrade Windows 2012 Server to Windows 2008 Server

    Hello,
I can see this topic covered but the pervious answers are not solving my problem.
A client purchased Server 2012 standard OEM from us (distributor), he want to downgrade to Server 2008 STD.
They called the MS Activation Center and received the answer that for OEM the downgrade is not available. We called the Activation Center and we received the same answer.
    Thank you in advance
    Regards

What's your question?  It appears the Activation Center provided the answer but you did not like it?
As an OEM, you should be aware that OEM licenses have some built-in restrictions.  For detailed answers to questions you have, you should talk with your Microsoft representative.

    Hi,
We can use the active directory rename tools to rename domain NetBIOS name. But it is a complex and risky process.
For more information about how to use random.exe to rename domain name, please refer to the following article:
    Rendom

Besides, renaming of the NetBIOS domain name is not supported in any version of Exchange Server.

  • Installation of Exchange 2010 in Windows 2012 Server

    Hi all,
We are planning to upgrade our current Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, Need some help on installation and Support of Exchange 2010 in Windows 2012 Server, as per the
https://technet.microsoft.com/library/ff728623(v=exchg.150).aspx Exchange 2010 with sp3 is supported in Windows 2012 but I am unable to find the installer of Ex 2010 with sp3
in web even in MSDN. There is only Ex 2010 with Sp1 available. I know that after installing ex2010 with sp1 version, I can install sp3 later but I found one link
http://www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0000785.htm where it is mentioned that insllation can be done only after doing the registry settings.
So is any one who has installed Ex 2010 in Windows 2012 Server and faced this issue and any solution.
    Thanks
    Mukesh
    Mukesh Bisht

You can easily install Exchange 2010 (SP3) on Windows Server 2012. If you are working with previous SP version’s you can easily upgrade after installing server. And registry settings
are used to fix an error which may occur during migration, so it is not mandatory to correct registry settings each time during migration.
You can find detailed information about installing Exchange 2010 (SP3) on Windows Server 2012 at this blog :http://oxfordsbsguy.com/2013/03/24/how-to-install-exchange-2010-sp3-on-windows-server-2012/

  • Windows 2012 Server Remote Desktop Virtualization + Linux Clients

    Hello!
I wonder if anyone could shed a little light on this.
We want to implement a Windows 2012 Server with Remote Desktop Virtualization for our office, which has around 12 users. Our company has its core apps developed in VB6.0, and those apps use MySQL as their database. We want clients to run Linux, which will
have no other function than to connect and to Windows 2012 Server and display the remote session. Users need to work as usual, as they would in a local version of a Windows Desktop.
Can this be done? If yes, is the Standard version of Windows 2012 Server the best to accomplish this?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Add to Tim, you need to acquire CALs for every user (About 12 in your case).
Remote Desktop Services Client Access Licenses (RDS CALs)
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753650.aspx
Client Access Licenses and Management Licenses
    http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/about-licensing/client-access-license.aspx
In addition, although AD is recommended, you can run RDS in a workgroup.
Regarding how to setup RDS on a single server, you can refer to the following:

  • Windows 2012 server crashed on proliant ML310 G8

Hi Guys, I have a quick question for you. Our server today crashed without notification. It will not boot into windows and of course all the repair option will not work.
I  ended putting the original windows 2012 server and try to use the repair option. The aims is to avoid reinstalling the whole server. The repair still doesnt work because the drivers are not available on the original windows cd.
So i had  no other option to click on install and put the driver of the raid. then i was able to install windows. But i am reinstalling the whole server again which is not cool and time consuming.
So my question is. Why there is no way to put the correct drivers and use the repair function while booting windows 2012 server cd? In server edition it seems to be different.
I could make a custom cd and put the driver for my controller. but that another time consuming work.
    thank to share your ideas.
    Jean

during the install at the partition screen there is an option to "load driver" is this what you are looking for it's similar to the f6 in previous OS installs.
You can also do a shift-f12 which will give you a command line and you could install drivers that way.
If you want your raid drivers in a install image look in to ADK and Windows deployment you can create system images and inject drivers, for what your talking about this sounds overkill though, assuming you only have to reinstall completely once or twice
in the life of the server.

    Hi Kenneth,
Here for your case suggest you to configure RDP session time limit so that your user can disconnect\log off once the specific time limit reached.
You can setup the session time limit in different method.
    1. Open the Server Manager, select Remote Desktop Services.
    2. In Remote desktop Services, in right side you can drop down to collections.
    3. Select the collection which you want to edit the settings.
    4. Under collections Properties, select Task and then Edit Properties.
    5. In Properties dialog box, select Session.
    6. You can find all thetimeout settings under session collection properties; edit according to your requirements and then OK.
And apart also by group policy setting as below.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits
    User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits
    -  Set time limit for disconnected sessions
    -  Set time limit for active but idle Remote Desktop Services sessions
    -  Set time limit for active Remote Desktop Services sessions
    -  End session when time limits are reached
Please check which setting suitable for your environment and you can apply for your case.

  • New files and folders on a Linux client mounting a Windows 2012 Server for NFS share do not inherit Owner and Group when SetGID bit set

    Problem statement
When I mount a Windows NFS service file share using UUUA and set the Owner and Group, and set the SetGID bit on the parent folder in a hierarchy. New Files and folders inside and underneath the parent folder do not inherit the Owner and Group permissions
    of the parent.
I am given to understand from this Microsoft KnowledgeBase article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951716/en-gb) the problem is due to the Windows implmentation of NFS Services not supporting the Solaris SystemV or BSD grpid "Semantics"
However the article says the same functionality can acheived by using ACE Inheritance in conjunction with changing the Registry setting for "KeepInheritance" to enable Inheritance propagation of the Permissions by the Windows NFS Services.
    1. The Precise location of the "KeepInheritance" DWORD key appears to have "moved" in  Windows Server 2012 from a Services path to a Software path, is this documented somewhere? And after enabling it, (or creating it in the previous
location) the feature seems non-functional. Is there a method to file a Bug with Microsoft for this Feature?
    2. All of the references on demonstrating how to set an ACE to achieve the same result "currently" either lead to broken links on Microsoft technical websites, or are not explicit they are vague or circumreferential. There are no plain Examples.
    Can an Example be provided?
    3. Is UUUA compatible with the method of setting ACE to acheive this result, or must the Linux client mount be "Mapped" using an Authentication source. And could that be with the new Flat File passwd and group files in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
and is there an Example available.
    Scenario:
    Windows Server 2012 Standard
    File Server (Role)
+- Server for NFS (Role) << -- installed
    General --
    Folder path: F:\Shares\raid-6-array
    Remote path: fs4:/raid-6-array
    Protocol: NFS
    Authentication --
    No server authentication
    +- No server authentication (AUTH_SYS)
    ++- Enable unmapped user access
+++- Allow unmapped user access by UID/GID
    Share Permissions --
    Name: linux_nfs_client.host.edu
    Permissions: Read/Write
    Root Access: Allowed
    Encoding: ANSI
    NTFS Permissions --
    Type: Allow
    Principal: BUILTIN\Administrators
    Access: Full Control
    Applies to: This folder only
    Type: Allow
    Principal: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
    Access: Full Control
    Applies to: This folder only
    -- John Willis, Facebook: John-Willis, Skype: john.willis7416

I'm making some "major" progress on this problem.
    1. Apparently the "semantics" issue to honor SGID or grpid in NFS on the server side or the client side has been debated for some time. It also existed as of 2009 between Solaris nfs server and Linux nfs clients. The Linux community defaulted to declaring
it a "Server" side issue to avoid "Race" conditions between simultaneous access users and the local file system daemons. The client would have to "check" for the SGID and reformulate its CREATE request to specify the Secondary group it would have to "notice"
by which time it could have changed on the server. SUN declined to fix it.. even though there were reports it did not behave the same between nfs3 vs nfs4 daemons.. which might be because nfs4 servers have local ACL or ACE entries to process.. and a new local/nfs
"inheritance" scheme to worry about honoring.. that could place it in conflict with remote access.. and push the responsibility "outwards" to the nfs client.. introducing a race condition, necessitating "locking" semantics.
This article covers that discovery and no resolution - http://thr3ads.net/zfs-discuss/2009/10/569334-CR6894234-improved-sgid-directory-compatibility-with-non-Solaris-NFS-clients
    2. A much Older Microsoft Knowledge Based article had explicit examples of using Windows ACEs and Inheritance to "mitigate" the issue.. basically the nfs client "cannot" update an ACE to make it "Inheritable" [-but-] a Windows side Admin or Windows User
[-can-] update or promote an existing ACE to "Inheritable"
Here are the pertinent statements -
"In Windows Services for UNIX 2.3, you can use the KeepInheritance registry value to set inheritable ACEs and to make sure that these ACEs apply to newly created files and folders on NFS shares."
"Note About the Permissions That Are Set by NFS Clients
The KeepInheritance option only applies ACEs that have inheritance enabled. Any permissions that are set by an NFS client will
only apply to that file or folder, so the resulting ACEs created by an NFS client will
    not have inheritance set."
    "So
If you want a folder's permissions to be inherited to new subfolders and files, you must set its permissions from the Windows NFS server because the permissions that are set by NFS clients only apply to the folder itself."
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321049
    3. I have set up a Windows 2008r2 NFS server and mounted it with a Redhat Enteprise Linux 5 release 10 x86_64 server [Oct 31, 2013] and so far this does appear to be the case.
    4. In order to mount and then switch user to a non-root user to create subdirectories and files, I had to mount the NFS share (after enabling Anonymous AUTH_SYS mapping) this is not a good thing, but it was because I have been using UUUA - Unmapped Unix
User Access Mapping, which makes no attempt to "map" a Unix UID/GID set by the NFS client to a Windows User account.
To verify the Inheritance of additional ACEs on new subdirectories and files created by a non-root Unix user, on the Windows NFS server I used the right click properties, security tab context menu, then Advanced to list all the ACEs and looked at the far
Column reflecting if it applied to [This folder only, or This folder and Subdirectories, or This folder and subdirectories and files]
    5. All new Subdirectories and files createdby the non-root user had a [Non-Inheritance] ACE created for them.
    6. I turned a [Non-Inheritance] ACE into an [Inheritance] ACE by selecting it then clicking [Edit] and using the Drop down to select [This folder, subdirs and files] then I went back to the NFS client and created more subdirs and files. Then back to the
Windows NFS server and checked the new subdirs and folders and they did Inherit the Windows NFS server ACE! - However the UID/GID of the subdirs and folders remained unchanged, they did not reflect the new "Effective" ownership or group membership.
    7. I "believe" because I was using UUUA and working "behind" the UID/GID presentation layer for the NFS client, it did not update that presentation layer. It might do that "if" I were using a Mapping mechanism and mapped UID/GID to Windows User SIDs and
Group SIDs. Windows 2008r2 no longer has a "simple" Mapping server, it does not accept flat text files and requires a Schema extension to Active Directory just to MAP a windows account to a UID/GID.. a lot of overhead. Windows Server 2012 accepts flat text
files like /etc/passwd and /etc/group to perform this function and is next on my list of things to see if that will update the UID/GID based on the Windows ACE entries. Since the Local ACE take precedence "over" Inherited ACEs there could be a problem. The
Inheritance appears to be intended [only] to retain Administrative rights over user created subdirs and files by adding an additional ACE at the time of creation.
    8. I did verify from the NFS client side in Linux that "Even though" the UID/GID seem to reflect the local non-root user should not have the ability to traverse or create new files, the "phantom" NFS Server ACEs are in place and do permit the function..
reconciling the "view" with "reality" appears problematic, unless the User Mapping will update "effective" rights and ownership in the "view"

I need to download Windows ADK for Windows 2012 Server. The link mentioned on microsoft website "http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=30718" is not reachable. Can anyone please tell me, from where I can download Windows ADK for
    2012 Server.
    Thanks
    Manik Bansal

    Hi Johan, Hi Manik,
Your reply with the link for the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows® 8 at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30652 has been very much appreciated.
I have also found a new and updated link to the *NEW* Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK) for Windows 8.1 at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39982 that was released and published on 2013-Oct-17.
Please note that this ADK can be used with Windows Server 2012, but there are some important differences between the Windows 8 ADK and the Windows Server 2012 ADK. The TechNet summary of the ADK may be explored at the link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200116.aspx
The details of the ADK for Windows 8 may be explored at the link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=248647
    Thank you,
    Michael C.

    hello again,
meanwhile I was lucky to find this article about Idenity Mapping in TechNet in the Storage Team Blog:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2012/10/09/nfs-identity-mapping-in-windows-server-2012.aspx
Likely to be overseen at the end of one paragraph it says:
"Client for NFS does not support NFS V4.1 in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012"
Question : Is this an official statement and is it still valid with most recent
Windows Server 2012 R2 that NFS client does NOT support NFSv4.x  ??
    thanks - Rainer

  • Windows 7 Client 'sees' an old version of windows 2012 server share

    Hi All,
I have a problem which seems to be a common theme looking at other threads. Here's the overview of the problem:-
I have multiple windows 7 clients and a windows 8.1 client within a 2008 Server in a domain.
I also have a Windows 2012R2 Server which is not joined to the domain. There is a Share on the 2012R2 which has the Caching Option turned off. Everyone full control on Share & File permissions.
One of the Windows 7 machines in Explorer when it looks at
\\2012server\share sees an old version of the folder. It seems that SMB 2 chaching is working too well. Not even pressing F5 or clicking View, Refresh updates windows explorer.
It took a reboot to get the workstation to see the up to date contents of the share on the 2012 server.
We don't seem to have that behaviour with that client against the 2008 server.
I have seen this behaviour on another machine un-related to us at another location which was in a workgroup with a 2012 server and no domain.
    Questions:-
Is there some sort of problem with Windows 7 workstations working against 2012 Servers in a non-domain setting or is it just Windows 7 against 2012 servers period?
I understand that Windows 7 utilises SMB1 & SMB2. SMB2 introduced caching. If the server has turned off the share cache option should the client cache the contents of the share or the information about the files & folders & 'file not found'
    information?
I want to open a file handle to a file on a network share so I can read and write data to it. But I also want to know that when I look at the folder to open the file I'm actually looking at the live version of the folder and files in the folder and
not a cached version of the folder. If it's a cached version the file might be there already but I won't see it.
Is there an API call that tells the client to get a fresh view of the server share so I can be absolutely sure that when I look for a file on the server I'm getting the correct answer and not one from cache.
I first posted the question with the same subject "Windows 7 Client 'sees' an old version of windows 2012 server share" in the Windows 7 Networking Fourm
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/23bf3627-987b-4c27-8062-85a284a2cda4/windows-7-client-sees-an-old-version-of-windows-2012-server-share?forum=w7itpronetworking and it was suggested I repost in here. Please do take the time to read
the thread which will save time with suggestions that have already been covered.
As the computers that can be affected by this problem are not mine I cannot enforce or guarantee that any of my 'client base' will apply any hotfixes. I will also not have the ability to tweak registry settings as I can't guarantee Admin Access.
It seems that we need to go back to SMB1 as all the tweaks to SMB since those days have introduced problems with the basic requirement of sharing files from a share on a server for Read/Write purposes. I have tried turning a network back to SMB1 and that
has resolved a lot of the issues but then I found a post/MS blog that states not to leave the network on SMB1
The Caching option of the share had already been turned off. Surely Windows clients should not cache any information about the share but I think that is not the case.
    Thanks is advance
    Robert

    Hi Shaon,
    Thanks for looking into this.
If this is a known issue, why isn't the hotfix rolled into a general windows update if this is a known problem? However this doesn't just affect domain joined workstations.
Surely it's basic functionality for a networked computer to access files and folders on a network file server. It's what networks were invented for at the end of the day.
I am unable to apply hotfixes to these computers that are having the problem due to the fact they are not mine but my customers.
At one of my customers sites I disabled SMB2 from the server and network clients as well as disabling the network adapter power saving option. This seemed to resolve the issues that I saw on one client that seemed to be 30 minutes behind the rest of
the network.  The hotfix you link to states that it is for Domain joined computers. At my customer site the PC's are not in a domain at all, just a workgroup with workstations and a 2012r2 server. Will the hotfix be applicable to non-domain machines?
Also many clients seemed to loose the file handle to an open file on the server. I'll get them to turn SMB2 back on at some point after I send out some updates but all the problems I see seem to be caused by the caching functions in SMB2. SMB1 is good and
stable. It's SMB2 that seems to be causing the problems as it was designed from the ground up for caching.
Has this networking issue been resolved in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10?
As I am unable to apply a hotfix to 1000's of PC's that are not mine, is there an API call or something where I can get the windows client to stop lying and get me the current state of a folder on the server?
Will Turning off ClientSideCaching fix the issue? HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MrxSmb\Parameters\
    CSCEnabled
Or will every machine need to be tuned individually according to the following guide:-
