Slow Mail and more

Hi
In the last two days it takes about 1 min to send an email from mail via our server. Prior it was almost instant. If I go to the xserve and open server admin, it takes about 2 min to show the information. Everything else on the server runs at normal speed (8 core xeon). If I open workgroup manager, it also takes about 2 min before it shows the information. Everything works, it is just super slow
Any suggestions?
Cheers
Tony

Have you tried things like
1) Reboot and see if the condition continues.
2) Start up Activity Monitor and see what is performance stats are, look for runaway processes, etc
3) Start up Top in a terminal window - hit o to sort and type cpu for the response.

  • Bulk mail, bulk mail, and more bulk mail

I cannot understand this. I have five or six assorted mail accounts that all feed into my Apple Mail. The spam mostly gets filtered out -- by Yahoo or Google-- before I see it.  My husband has only one Yahoo account and one Mail account, which has the same preferences set as mine.  He gets more than four hundred "Bulk Mail" messages every day. The number of new messages and the number of bulk messages is usually the same.   He uses OS 10.6 on a Macbook which I used previously -- without this problem.
Any suggestions as to what I/he should do? Can I just delete the Bulk folder? I have checked and recheched the Yahoo settings; the bulk stuff doesn't show there?
    TIA

Yahoo has a blacklist of servers which send out spam.
There are individuals that feel at least some on the blacklist are on it unfairly.
Yahoo routes all of the e-mail from its blacklist to the Yahoo "Spam" folder (along with all of the other spam e-mail).
There are e-mail clients that attempt to address the above issue by selecting the e-mail in Yahoo's "Spam" folder that is there because it is blacklisted and putting it in a different folder commonly named "Bulk Mail".
These "Bulk Mail" folders are often baked into the e-mail client and may be difficult to modify.

  • Mavericks causing slow finder and more

Since upgrading to Mavericks I am having issues with findder, deleting files that keep deleting forever. WHen trying to open a file through lets say Photoshop it takes 2 minutes for it to see any file in the folder I have browsed to.  Not to mention other issues like my screen freezing up and going all garbley.

Try a safe boot (restart, hold down shift until you see the Apple logo). If this eliminates the symptom, then you know the problem is with some third-party software you have installed. Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
You have a lot of third party stuff added on to your computer which is probably not compatible with Mavericks.
I bet that a safe boot will show you a speedy mac again.
A few things I can comment on:
      [loaded] com.micromat.TechToolProDaemon.plist
      [loaded] com.micromat.TechToolProAgent.plist
Techtool is nice but I wouldn't let it install any of its monitoring software, like this Daemon and its buddy Agent.
              [loaded] com.google.keystone.agent.plist
Google drive is not compatible with Mavericks.
              [not loaded] ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist
1Password is unnecessary, now that iCloud does keychains, and does it better.
    [loaded] net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist
SIMBL is a chronic offender, GUI changer.

I think you can see where I'm going with this.
You have a ton of user login items, launch agents, and user launch agents.
In some cases you have multiple copies of each. You are a promiscuous downloader!
I'd go through the list and eliminate what you don't really need, which is proably most of it.
There's so much extraneous stuff on there, if I were you, I'd backup my documents and erase the HD and do a clean install. And then start over and not install all this stuff that you don't need. You are spending a lot of time with things that change the GUI where it doesn't need changing, and monitor your mac where it doesn't need monitoring (like TechTool), as opposed to actually doing stuff with your mac. All of this extraneous stuff is costly in terms of memory and CPU cycles. But then, that's a personal choice. I try to avoid software like this and just stick to the basics: Logic, iWork, iTunes.
Just for comparison, if you're interested, here's my Etrecheck report:

  • Mail and MORE EPS issues...

Hi. I am running OS 10.4.8 and have the same problem with EPS attachments as many of the rest of you. My problem is that, when I open mail, the e-mail that has the attached EPS is selected and it immediately crashes Mail. I can not select another e-mail or reduce the "view" below so I can by-pass it.
What else can I do to be able to open Mail without having that e-mail selected at the time of opening???
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Stacie,
Hold down the Shift Key while clicking on the Mail Icon in the Dock. This will allow Mail to open without opening any mailbox, and then minize the Message Preview Pane before chosing one to open.

  • Iphone 3g sounds text, lock, sending mail and more

My iphone 3g sounds keep disappearing I thought I could deal with it but I cant it's very frustrating. What do you think I should do.
    Message was edited by: jamin13

im a bit of a loudmouth about the text sounds issue, so far i have found that resets restores etc dont work, it comes back anyways and also apps dont cause it. I wiped out all apps on my phone and still lost sounds, also people reported never installing any apps and still losing sounds.
I think its just 2.0 being the piece of rushed crap that it is.
but i digress GO APPLE YEEAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

  • Mail slowly eats more and more Real Memory until it's super sluggish

My Mail had been giving me lots of problems.
Basically it is fine when I open it and starts to become more and more slow and unresponsive the longer I have it open. I ultimately have to quit, and it always has to be a force quite because it just gets jammed.
I started looking at Activity Monitor and have noticed that when I first run it, it uses about 150 megs of Real Memory. (I have 4gigs). Over the course of 2 hours, the Real Memory used creeps upwards and upwards, until it's over a GIG. The performance just gets worse and worse. The MB Pro's fans start whizzing away.
Anyone know why this might be happening and what I can do to stop it?
    Thanks so much
    Scott

Found a post in another Forum which (so far) seems to have fixed my problem:
"I spent some time on the phone with Apple tech support today. They were very helpful and appeared to have solved the problem. They had me go to iSync in the applications directory, go the Preferences and then click on Reset Sync History. First they had me log out of MobileMe, but not sure that was important. I logged back in to MobileMe. I have now been using my Mac for an hour now with no recurrance of the safarisyncclient".
    Here's hoping.

  • In mail 8.2 if I click the template button the CPU start running at 150% CPU and WindowServer arrive to 20 GB and more of memory

hello, after upgrade to Yosemite I have a problem with Mail/CPU.
if I create a new email message everything is ok, but if I click the button at the top right (show template) on the message window, the CPU running at 130-150% and the VirtualServer memory start increasing up you 20 GB and more.
If I close and reopen Mail (without closing the mail message) the CPU return to 130-150% but if I send or delete the message the CPU return to the standard value
If I don't click the template button on the new message window the CPU works correctly.
This thing cause slowdowns and unexpected logout of my imac, I contacted applecare twice and they told me to create a new user (first) and reinstall a fresh operating system (second). I have done both but the problem is not solved.
I have also tried this (without results): Guide: How to solve Yosemite memory leaks and CPU usage
Do you have any solution for may problem?
    imac 5K - 16 GB ram
    Yosemite 10.10.2
    Mail 8.2
    Thanks in advance

I have that same problem on all my yosemite Mac´s too and no solution yet exept deleting your own templates.
But if you need to use the templates for your business like i do this is not an "good" option
I use this workaround at the moment until theres a fix
You can copy our own templates in an existing nativ template folder apple mail uses. (Google knows where the folders are)
(Or you can use another Mail program or a slow Apple Mail )

So I basically won't run into any trouble? I
There should be no issues. Its designed to work like that.  You don't change Apple IDs just because you get a new device.

Is there any chance that the phones can fall out of sync?
Unlikely. But nothing is impossible.   Though I don;t see how that would happen. As long as both are signed into the Same Apple ID / iCloud Account they will be N'Sync. (Bad Joke)

If I get a message or buy an app or take a photo on the iPhone 5, how do I get those things onto the iPhone 6?
If you buy an App, you have 2 ways to get it to the iPhone6: If Automatic Downloads is enabled in Settings->iTunes & App Store, it will automatically download to the iPhone 6 when you buy it on the 5 and vice versa if you buy it on the 6, it will download to the 5.
Alternatively, you can simply go to the App Store App->Updates->Purchased and look for the App there and download it. Purchased Apps will not require payment again. i.e They'll be free to download to the iPhone 6 once purchased.
SMS Messages will sync over using Continuity as long as they are on the same Wifi network. Otherwise, restoring the iPhone 5 backup to the iPhone 6 will transfer all messages received up until the backup was made onto the iPhone 6.
Images, can be transferred either through Photo Stream
My Photo Stream FAQ - Apple Support
Or any Cloud service you want such as Dropbox, or One Drive.

Also, something i forgot to ask initially: Should I update the iPhone 5 to iOS 8 first or does that not matter?
If you want the Continuity features as explained above you need to update the iPhone 5 to iOS 8. Otherwise its not all that important.

        jsavage9621,
It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

The system doesn’t recognize or capitalize the word (I) or the first word of every sentence. Another really annoying thing about the integrated mail on your Mac computers is the fact that the system learns the word as you type it more and more instead of highlighting it as incorrectly is this is a word that’s being misspelled. Can Apple fix this bug to make it user friendly as if you were using Office or a Word Document?

    You hit the target CT.
It’s only fair that if Apple is going to integrate Mail into Mac PCs, it would be nice if the system does it for you like Office or perhaps Outlook. I just don’t to use Outlook although I have it installed and ready to use, but instead use Mail which comes with Mac OS already.
I hope to make some sense here.

I don't think that a software update from Apple will solve the issues that you are having. You have a rogue installation. After you posted I have just done the following:
Disk Utility can verify  my partitioned Volume (including my boot disk) AND REPAIR the non-boot disks on the same Volume without a glitch. It repairs the non-boot disks containing data smoothly.
I have used Mail to send some mails from some Yahoo and Hotmail accounts to my Thunderbird client containing GMail accounts - absolutely normal.
I have iLife '09 but my iMovie '09 and iPhoto '09 open in a jiffy and I see no issues here. I have 6GB RAM (Maximum) on an early 2008 Macbook Pro with a 750GB hard drive partitioned with 120GB reserved for the Boot Drive.
I am sorry that I cannot help further but I am sure there must be a way to reinstall the software without having to revert to restoring your ML backup. I have two clones and if you have such I would attempt to do that through that rather than through Time Machine - that is of course if you have a cloned drive.
    Good luck!

  • PDFs in Mail and Preview are very slow

I have been experiencing serious issues with PDFs, handling them in Mail, and in Preview. This problem surfaced a few weeks ago, and it is totally hogging my resources. It is like the PDF takes over my computer. It might take several minutes to load, and it never fully loads. It will keep flashing back and forth as it tries to draw the whole document.
It seems especially problematic within graphic files, or those with shading or cross-hatching. As an Architect, I am handing files like that all the time. I bought my MBP Retina display a few weeks ago with the hopes that the 16 MB of RAM would make things run smoothly, but the only advantage is that restarts are pretty quick.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

You haven't mentioned which mail it is,
If it is G-mail go to settings --> general tab--> default text style , you can change your font size & then save at the bottom of the page

  • Error sync calender and slow mail for Exchange

I have a Nokia E90 with Exchange Business software. I the last to month i get an error when synchronizing calendar. The phone completely locks with an error message. It is still possible to sync mail and contacts.
Today i upgraded the firmware to newest version, and now the Exchange application is very slow, and i still get the error message when trying to sync calendar.
Do you now what is wrong?

What do you mean "completely locks"? What is the error message. Is there an error in the admin logs? Look in the \MailForExchange directory using the FileBrowser.
There is likely a bad calendar item on your server that is causing this problem. Let's try to locate it. It could be anywhere in the Calendar. Change the calendar "sync back" setting as low as possible. This will reduce the number of items that will be synched.
If that doesn't help, take a look at your repeating items. Look for items with hundreds or thousands of recipients or large attachments in the body.
Another way: there is a way to change the Calendar view in Outlook to a list instead of a calendar. From this view, you can temporarily move small groups of your calendar items to another folder until synching succeeds. Then you know that the bad item is in the last group. Now move the items back to the calendar one by one until you find the bad one.
Once found, recreate it so that you have a working copy, but don't move the bad one back into your calendar.
    Make sense?
