Slow page loads over LAN with 500GB TC

Hello,
Forgive me if this has already been touched on, I tried to run through the first six pages and didn't see anything that I thought matched my problem. I saw that there were reports of slow wireless speeds, but I have been experiencing problems over the wired connection to my TC
I have a MBP connected to the TC wirelessly and a Mac Pro with a wired connection to the TC. They both render similar speeds in a speed test ~4Mbits down, but on my Mac Pro, I get excruciatingly slow page loads. Pages often take, on average, 15-20 seconds to come up at all, and some more time to finish loading completely. Meanwhile, I can load the same pages in a few seconds with my MBP over the wireless network.
My cable coming from the TC to my Mac Pro is brand new, its at least CAT5e, and should be able to handle my down speeds without a problem. So I'm at a loss for what could be causing this. Could it be something with the computer and not the TC at all?
Thanks,
Scott

Well, creating a test user put me on the right path. Deleting the systemconfiguration folder did not help, but I deleted the following files out of the $user/library/preferences folder:
com.apple.internetconfig.plist
com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
com.apple.internetconnect.plist
com.apple.networkConnect.000a27b47970.plist
com.apple.preference.internet.plist
com.apple.PrefPane.Network.000a27b47970.plist
Basically any preference with "Network" or "Internet" in it and everything sped up immediately. Thanks for the help.

  • Slow page loading even though speed test is fine

Hi all, I have noticed that pages and content are very slow to load over the last few days. I ran the speed test and the results are fine (37mb down 8mb up). I thought it may have been Firefox because it can play up. After testing with Chrome and IE9 I can confirm it is definitely not right.
Anyone else having problems? I am on the Macclesfield exchange. Connected via ethernet directly to the HH3.

Infinity fitted Tuesday. 37.8mb down, 1.8mb up. Pages are slower to load than before my upgrade ! As a non techy with computers, you must excuse any embarrassing blunders with technical issues, but, I have found if I use AltaVista instead of Google, everything is fine. If I type fast into the search bar on Google it can't keep up with me ! If I try to deleate the www entry a character at a time, it goes in fits and starts as it receeds back across the screen. I had no problems with the site till the upgrade. Is it just a problem with Google and the increased speeds or is that too simple an answer !!

  • Slow page loads only since 10.4 upgrades

    Hi folks,
Has anyone seen a problem with pages hanging up after updating from earlier OS X's to 10.4? First my wife noticed it when she got her new Mac Book -- an upgrade from 10.2.8 on the old machine. A couple of items would load on a page, but then it hangs up and stalls for a while until finally fully loading. Ordinarily, I'd peg it as just being slow serving of ads to particular sites, but it's not always ad-rich sites. And more so, it's strange that this only started happening in conjunction with starting to use 10.4 to surf the same sites that weren't hanging up before.
Further confirming my belief that it has to do with 10.4, is that upon my upgrading from 10.3 to 10.4 on my G5 a month or so later, I started to immediately notice slow, slow page loads on that machine, too. Particularly, again, on sites that loaded fine with 10.3 just before the upgrade.
I'm also having more problems with mailboxes loading slowly and kicking off-line since the upgrade.
Is there some trick to get 10.4 to behave with regard to requests across the web??
    Thanks!!!!

me too. My mini is wired, but I have the same trouble. I have a PC on the same router, and it has no problem with internet. I've been looking around a while, and it seems like this is a common occurrence and I have not found a fix yet. This is very frustrating. Also, the network status in the network diagnostics window shows the internet failing alot, but even when it's "green" I still can't always load pages.

  • Slow page loading / Time outs

    Hi guys,
I am getting very slow page loading times. This only started to happen today, before this my connection has been solid.
I have reset the router, all the other PCs in my house are having the same problem. I am not running any P2P/Downloading software.
Speedtest says I am connected at 12MBPs. It takes me a very long time to load a page and most of the time they just time out.

Which ones are you using ?  BT have LOTS of machines providing DNS services
    I'm currently using:
    Primary: 194.72.9.38
    Secondary: 194.72.0.114
...and haven't really noticed anything untoward all day, and I've been online and active for most of the day. Not much longer though - soon finished, then it's beer
I have seen quite a few reports of slow loading pages etc elsewhere though.

  • Slow web page loading in Safari with DSL

I've got an intermittent problem which may not be Safari-related, but I need to ask it anyway because Mac friends of mine have experienced similar problems.
I just changed my ISP from satellite interenet to mid-speed DSL. Ever since the changeover, I've found that more often than not, pages seem to load about 66%, then data reception seems to stop. When pages DO load, they load quickly, but most of the time, pages seem to stop loading at a certain point. If I hit refresh (often after several times), then the page loads as fast as lightning.
Could there be something with Safari that interacts with the DSL connection which causes the loading to stall? Many times, pages don't load at all, and I'm wasting time waiting for pages to "just pop up", Other times, I will get "Page Not Found" even though I KNOW there's a page existing at that particular location, yet Safari doesn't display it unless I first hit "Refresh". Still other times, The same pages load just fine, whether or not I empty the cache and close the downloads window.
    Any ideas, people?

    Hi Jim,
The 'refresh to force the page to load' symptom is usually a sign that you either have the wrong DNS addresses specified in your Network preferences or your ISPs DNS server are very slow.
Have a search for DNS on the Safari forum - there's quite a few posts and sample addresses for you to try out.
    Good luck.

  • Slow page loads, dropped connection

    Hi,
Looking for some advice here. I write for the web for a living, and spend most of my day online. I'm not happy with the speed of my connection right now, and am considering upgrading to a faster package. I'm currently on the 768k to 1.5Mbps DSL package.
The problem is, I don't get anywhere near the speed I'm paying for now. Page load times go from speedy to drop dead slow (20-30 secs), and often hang. I'm not sure what's going on, although I can say my mother has the same problems at her house (next town over, same DSL package). I can't see paying for a "faster" package when I don't even get the speed I should be now.
Here are some stats. Hoping someone can take a look and give me some thoughts about whether a speed upgrade would be worth it.

Has the line been performing any better since the last post? If not, find a time where it is working poorly and register an account over at DSLReports.com if you don't already have one. Fron there, visit their Tools section of their site and perform the Line Quality/Ping test. Be sure that before you start the test, your router/modem is not blocking Pings since this will result in the test having less data. Also, ensure nothing is using your connection before and during the time of the test being ran. Post up the results of the test once it has been completed.

  • Shadow and gradients slow page load...why?

I have read how shadows and gradients slow down a web site, and that you should replace them with (essentially) screen shots of the same (i.e. looks the same, but not using the shadow or gradient feature of iweb).
I understand that larger photos (etc) slow down a page load, but I don't follow why these do. I am curious for an explaination. It would seem intuitive that the apple folks would publish a web site in a way that did not cause this (i.e. covert shadows and gradients to jpgs or something).
    thanks
    bob

Shadows and gradients generally actually don't cause professional designers any issues, how you design it and what file format is important, most produce high quality images with a low impact to the web page load time. I have been designing for over 20 years and quite like iWeb challenges .
iWeb however does something quite different, it adds to an existing image, mainly using javascript which slows the rendering and page loads. iWeb works great for non professionals as it's dreadfully poor from a site point of view, remember iweb is a toy in the software world of web design tools, so enjoy it for what it is..
A simple way to prove is to design a single page in iWeb and the another using, say, Dreamwever, look at the rendering/load times.....

  • FAST Cable Internet -- SLOW page loading, both Safari & Firefox

We switched from slow DSL (speed was about 2.5) to a fast Comcast cable service. Speed is now like 20 download with very low ping.
Using Safari 4.1.1 and Firefox 3.5.11 --- I keep having pages load very slow, even when daily frequenting the same pages, and especially when visiting a couple forums, same forums I frequent almost daily.... Both browsers will take 40-50 seconds to load those boards...
So, since both my browsers are acting the same, it might be something to adjust in both, or the issue is in one of my System Prefs. settings, and I'd like to find out which one and what can I check and change....
    Thanks!

  • Very slow page loading on Safari

I am having problems with my Mac. I am not sure if it is the Safari software or something else. For the past several weeks my computer has been very slow at loading pages, going to the next page, going back to a previous page etc. Can anyone tell me what I need to do or check to make it run faster. It used to run very fast. Thanks Vickie

I had a similar problem with Safari (or any browser) taking a very long time to load pages. Downloading files is fast (6 Mbit/s) so I knew my network speed was OK. I usually run wirelessly both at work and home and the problem was the same no matter where I was working. When I directly connected to an Ethernet line, browsing was fast again so I looked into the network setting for my airport connection and found I had switched the "Location" from "Automatic" to a specific DHCP setting. I don't know why but when I switched back to "Automatic" everything was fine again (super fast as before). Specifically, I just went to the "Apple" menu icon (top left and hit "Location->Automatic". That's all.

  • Slow Page Loads: Is It Just Me?

I have a 30mbs connection and recently—past few months—page loads have become painfully slow, or in most cases never completes.
I have tested via my providers speed test and several online speed test sites and my connection is in excellent shape.
I can load pages without 'ad' type content and all is fast, but going to any popular news site, or any site that has lots of ads and flash content, I get painfully slow response or in most cases the page never completes loading.
Has anyone else noticed a slow down recently? Is this simply that websites have become so filled with ad clutter that they will not load?
Just wondering if it is just me and if I should start the provider-support-**** route or learn to live with it.
    Thanks...

    Which browsers is it on?
    For Safari
    Reset Safari
    Run these commands in terminal
         defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitInitialTimedLayoutDelay 0.25
         defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitResourceTimedLayoutDelay 0.0001
    For Chrome
         1. Open chrome
         2. Preferences > Under the Hood
         3. Under the privacy section, uncheck the first 2 boxes and also the last box.

  • Looking for hook into a mb method on page load of jsff with auto query on view criteria.

    Hello,
I have a View Criteria that is set to Query Automatically (showing data to match today's date).  The target table has a detail table and there is a control that shows parsed XML from the current row in the detail table into a table that I build dynamically. The main table and the detail table show the proper data on page load but the table for the parsed XML is empty.  The dynamic table is bound to a managed bean where the parsing is done and data is created.  I have the control refreshing properly on a row change of the main and detail tables and on a queryListener for the view criteria.
This is for a jsff page. I have been trying a bunch of approaches with no success.  The detail table has a ppr to the main table and the query.  I am looking some event on either the query, the main table or the detail table where I can make a call to my managed bean to parse the XML, build the table and refresh the control.  I have an attribute binding to the XML data (when I placed it in a control as plane XML it refreshed properly).  I only need this on initial page load or first time the tables are populated, I have the other use cases covered.
    Running JDev 11.1.2.4
    Thank you
    Rudy

    ok but where?
i have read a topic about "setRefreshOption", but i need a component to execute it.
i have read a topic about a false criteria (1=2), and when i want search, i remove it, but again, i need a component to execute it.
i have read a topic about ${adfFacesContext.postback == true} to write into iterator proeprty, but i haven't this view into my appmodule.
i'm really sorry, but please, can you explain me a little ?

  • Wake-over-LAN with WRT54GX2

I'd like to wake up my computer over the internet, so I'm trying to use the Wake-on-LAN feature.
I can get it to work when waking from the local network....but I can't over the internet. I've read that I need to forward the right port to 192.168.1.255, but I can't forward to that address.
Is there anything I can do?

hoping someone can help me here, as I want to accomplish WOL in my workplace. I'm in a building that has a central router that divides the internet into 4 different offices (into jacks in the wall). The central router is a linksys befsr41 that I don't have access to because it belongs to the property manager. The central router's ip address is 192.168.1.1 This router is not wireless, but I need wireless in my office, so I have my wrt54gc in my office to use with my tablet pc. I've gotten my computer to wake up no problem over LAN at home, over WAN at home (from remote location), but when I'm at my office (2 routers chained together) I don't know what I need to do to get it to work consistently. So my questions are: 1. What settings, if any, do i need to change on the central router? Do I need to port forward to the IP of MY router (or my CPU)?? 2. Same question for my router? I've looked all over the net and can't find any info on what to do for WOL in a multiple router environment such as mine. I guess I need to somehow tell that magic packet thingy to go through the central router, then through my router, and recognize my MAC address and ip. I really appreciate help in this matter.

  • Slow page loads

    Hello,
I created an application a while ago and have been looking into why the pages load so slowly. I thought maybe it was due to a function that I had on Page 0 so I made a copy of the application and removed the function on page 0 and put it in an application item/computation. I'm not sure if that was the reason behind the pages loading so slowly, but in my copy application the pages now load pretty darn quick. I made the exact same changes to the production application, but the pages still load slowly.
When I look at the pages in Debug mode, I see that it starts to slow down when the "Fetch application meta data" is performed (from .01 to 1.51...I even saw 2.67 on one page load). When I look at the copied application in Debug mode, everything looks the same except the load times are quick.
Does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening?
    Thank you,
    Tammy

Assuming the department names aren't needed for your page, you could add a condition to the function that makes it only fire on specific pages.
If they are needed, you're going to need to look at the query's performance and how the data is used on the page. I don't think we have enough information at this point to help.
