SLS as Router: Trouble with internal hosts connecting to external IP.

I was hijacking [http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12200257] long enough, so I'm moving this to my own question.
Setup: SLS 10.6.4 on Mac Mini(2010).
GigE en2 is connected to an internal network (hereafter 'lan')
USB Ethernet en0 (MacBookAir adapter) is connected to the external network (hereafter 'WAN').
Server has Two IP addresses, 'lan.lan.lan.2' and 'WAN.WAN.WAN.WAN'. Default route for server is 'WAN.WAN.WAN.GW'.
Server is serving NAT, DHCP, Firewall
Internal clients (such as 'lan.lan.lan.lan') trying to connect to 'WAN.WAN.WAN.WAN' (any port, any service) take about 13 SECONDS before they receive a reply.
External clients connecting to the WAN IP get served right away. ("The cobbler's children go barefoot").
Internal clients connecting to the internal IP (lan.lan.lan.2) are connected right away, also.
If I run 'route monitor' on the server during the 13 second connection, I see this:
bash-3.2# route monitor -n
got message of size 124 on Wed Sep 1 21:21:16 2010

lan.lan.lan.lan WAN.WAN.WAN.GW
Yes, it would be a losing route to try to reply out the WAN.WAN.WAN.GW for the internal address!
Furthermore, "traceroute -s WAN.WAN.WAN.WAN lan.lan.lan.lan" shows a route going OUT which of course fails.
Traceroutes of the LAN and WAN port on the server, show indeed that for the first several seconds, (until the RTM_LOSING message appears) the server tries to reply out the WAN port.
I've tried all sorts of static routes… to no avail
One odd thing: Why is the RTM_LOSING route IFSCOPEd to the external interface?
Any help is appreciated.
Yes, I'm definitely considering using a hardware router instead. But I'm really trying to avoid that- trying to save on space, power, heat here. The Mac is really a great box… If I can only get this fixed.
Thanks in advance to anyone who looks at this.

Second I installed Applejack 1.6, booted the server in single user mode, and issued the following command:
applejack auto restart
I wasn't sure what the purpose of AppleJack <http://applejack.sourceforge.net/> was here, but reading on…
Everything has been stable for over 3 hours. I did the scopedroute change with the conf file and rebooted because other people in other discussions have had limited success modifying the setting while the server was running (without *clearing the caches, aka applejack*, and rebooting).
Aha! There's probably a simple command line way to do this while running… somewhere… But, I'm willing to try it. I've already made the Mac our site's perimeter router, and I'm not quite ready to switch to a separate hardware router as the shiny new Mini ought to work.
But, some sort of cache being out of date, is a plausible reason for it "only working for a little while".
On the plus side, I'm getting a great TCP/IP re-education in the meanwhile.

There are only two types of HDMI cables (standard and high speed - listen to all 1.2, 1.3 etc etc nonsense they will try to tell in the store) both types will work with the Apple TV.
The cable may be faulty though, have you got another to try, what exactly is happening.

Recently I upgraded Lion to 10.7.3. Since that time I have been having a lot of trouble with my internet connection. I keep losing the connect and have to go to diagnostics and turn it back on. Is anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks, Pat

I'm afraid there are numerous threads on here discussing this problem. I posted in this one earlier that has a couple of suggestions, but the real solution will hopefully be provided in an update from Apple:

i am having trouble with exchange account connection .the vpn connects fine but the exchange account is still showing the yellow light .can anyone help?

I had a similar problem.  Here is how I resolved the issue.
    1.  Remove Network Connect
    2. Run Terminal and remove /usr/local/juniper and everything within the juniper directory.
    3. Reboot the machine and reinstall Network Connect
    4. Test if you can now connect.
During removal, you may encounter permission denied error, you will need to change the permission to 777.  For example "sudo chmod 777 nc".

  • Trouble with the hosted website from a page viewer web part. (Sahrepoint 2010)

    Hi everyone,
I am facing trouble with sharepoint and I would like some help.
I use Sharepoint 2010 and I have included a page viewer page part in one the pages I 've created that hosts another website. Although most of the functionality of the hosted website is there, some functions of it don't work. These functions are apply buttons
or downloading documents buttons. My guess is that the web part has to update dynamically and it should be independent from the Sharepoint page.
Is there a way to do this? It is important that the website is hosted in the since at the same page I have s guide on how to use the hosted website.
If this can't be done using a page viewer webpart I am open to other suggestions as well.
    Thanks in advance!
    Sakis

Is it possible that the hosted website page is using HTML5 of other functionality that isn't supported by the IE-8 restriction in the SharePoint master page? We've run into that before, where the page wouldn't work in the page viewer. I also had problems
where Chrome/Firefox wouldn't display a pager viewer when it crossed hosts/changed protocol.
What I had to do was add some javascript/Jquery to pop up another window to view the page if I wasn't on IE, getting out of the restriction of the SharePoint master page. If I was in IE the page viewer webpart worked.  Not ideal, but maybe you could
adapt - they could see your instructions on the page but work with the host page on another.
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/Javascript/JQuery/JQueryMin-1.8.2.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">

    var isIE = /*@cc_on!@*/false || document.documentMode;
    if(!isIE) {
    window.open('http://fmgblog/measure/email/dashboard.php');
}); // end of document ready
    </script>

  • Trouble with internal keyboard and touchpad

    Hi,
Yesterday I just out of nowhere started having some trouble with my keyboard and touchpad on my MacBook Air.
The problem displayed itself on various ways. One thing was that I couldn't press regulary with the touchpad. When I was pressing one time, it acted like a pressed with two fingers. When I tried to type in my password on the administrator page, some of the keys didn't work at all and some started to act weird. For example when I was pressing the letter B, the "bar" which displayes where you are in the text (don't know the word in English) went backwards, and when I pressed the letter F it went forward. This seemes so weird and also gives me a hope that it might be some setting failure though B stands for backwards and F stands for forward.
I could log in to the guestpage where I tried to write in "notes". In notes, no letters at all was working, only numbers. When I tried to shut the computer down from the apple symbol I was asked to write administrator name and password. When I tried to mark the name to write it, there wasn't a "bar" but a cross, but on the other hand did it work to write in the password field. But of course not B and F..
Usualy I'd just press the on/off botton until the computer lockdown, unfortunately the botton doesn't work. So the only thing I could do was to let the battery die and hope that it would start when I recharged it and pressed start, this didn't go as well as I hoped, so now I'm stuck with a dead macbook air.
Any ideas of what could be the problem or/and any solutions what might do the trick?
    Extremly greatful for any answers

Yes you need to use a wired keyboard.

  • Acrobat/Reader cannot cope with internal Webserver connectivity problems, leading to comments being hidden/deleted. Any thoughts?

Adobe Acrobat/Reader do not cope with interruptions to access to the internal WebServer hosting the PDF/XML review files.
    Steps to reproduce the issue:
Connection is lost to the WebServer hosting the PDF review files.
After connection to the WebServer is regained, access to the PDF review files is blocked by Adobe Acrobat/Reader.
Sometimes this can be resolved by deleting the entire contents of the folder:
              C:\Users\<user-name>\AppData\LocalLow\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0\Synchronizer
    NOTES:
We have experienced this behaviour especially when connecting to the WebServer via VPN. I reckon the connectivity issues could be initially our problem, that Acrobat/Reader simply do not handle.
Clearing the contents of the Synchronizer folder does not always work.
Team members have also seen situations where significant numbers of review comments or status values have been not been displayed, but exist in the XML review files. In some cases comments/status values have been automatically deleted without warning from the Adobe review XML files.
PDF reviews are sent out via email as links to the PDF review file hosted on an internal WebServer.
Writers and reviewers in the team either have either:
Acrobat XI Pro 11.0.08 with Reader 11.0.08
Acrobat XI Pro 9.5.5 with Reader 11.0.08
I have personally experienced the above behaviour with Acrobat XI Pro 11.0.08 and Reader 11.0.08.
Could this experience be connected the Synchronizer (http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/known-issues-acrobat-xi-reader.html )?
For example, where a reviewer uses a different version of Acrobat/Reader?
Could anyone please provide a list of compatible versions of Acrobat/Reader?
    Expected results:
Adobe Acrobat/Reader should really handle connection issues with a warning and later check for recovered connections.
However, what appears to be happening is that Acrobat/Reader writes some sort of blocking code to the Synchronizer folder that prevents future checks of the PDF review files on the review WebServer.
As far as I understand, the connection issues are not caused by Adobe software, however the problems we are experiencing relate to how Adobe Acrobat/Reader handle this loss of connection.
    Plea for Help!
I have checked and the experience of missing comments and persistent "connectivity issues" seems to be a reported but sadly outstanding issue...
This has been an ongoing headache for some time, so solutions would be great, but any thoughts or suggestions are welcome...?
For example, has anyone using SharePoint to host PDF reviews experienced anything similar?
    Many thanks!

Adobe Acrobat 11.0.09 with Microsoft SharePoint Repository Trial Update
We've completed week one of a three week trial (see above) that will go on until Friday 24th October.
We currently have just four PDF files out for review that make use of the SharePoint repository.
    To-date:
Each review file has had multiple concurrent reviewers posting comments over several days from both over the office LAN and also via VPN when working remotely.
Dynamic stamps seem to be working as hoped and are all visible.
We have not experienced any connection-type issues and the we have not had reason to clear out the Synchronizer folder as described above.
    Counter balance:
I have experienced the situation with a remote VPN connection, where Adobe Acrobat could not connect to our internal WebServer repository. At the same time, I was able to connect to PDF review files hosted in SharePoint.
    Summary:
The experience so far does suggest that problems are caused by the an inconsistent connection to the WebServer repository (especially over VPN) combined with Adobe Acrobat/Reader's inability to cope with the resulting situation.
At the moment I must say that while it is early days, I am hopeful that the combination of SharePoint as the repository and the update to Adobe Acrobat/Reader 11.0.09 will continue to prove to be reliable.
I'll provide an update to this post on Friday 24th October...
    Here's hoping!

  • Trouble with my internet connection.

Hi, this is my first post here and the first time I have had a technical problem with my network that hasnt been solved by myself or tech support. Anyway. This problem started a few days ago, when I noticed that my laptop was not connecting to my network correctly. Services like Skype seemed to be working fine, but pretty much anything else would not connect correctly, often giving me 'could not reslove' errors for webpages and instant messaging services, while skype seemed to be working fine. At first I assumed this was a DCHP problem, and there was a problem with the IP lease for the device. However, when i used ipconfig to release and renew my ip address, the connection dropped completely and refused to work until both the device and my Homehub had been reset, after which it seemed to work fine. However, I have to go through the process of resetting the router every time i boot up my devices, and even then it doesnt always work, or takes a long period of time to start working again. I have contacted tech support about this, but they were *supremely* unhelpful, and in the end referred me to a subscription based internal tech support package. Before I phone tech support again, or put money down on potentially expensive premium support, is there anyone who can resolve this issue?

try resetting the hub back to factory settings using the recessed button on the back
Have you tried changing the wireless channel to a less congested channel?  if not you can try downloading inssider3 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.
    inssider3.1.2.1

  • I'm having trouble with my iphone4 connecting to my home wifi - nothing has changed so, I need help! Thx

I'm having trouble connecting to wifi. It doesn't recognize any of the networks I usually connect with, including my own. Can anyone help?

Try reboot your router, update router firmware from the manufacturer website.
In iPhone's Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Try reconnect again to your Wi-Fi.
Lastly, do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)
Note: You will not lose any data.

Anybody know why this thing doesn't work.

Hi. I dont know obout CS on UNIX, on windows  CS uses port 1090 and HTTP script ContentServer/ContentServer.dll
    The web page is
    http://server:1090/ContentServer/ContentServer.dll?serverInfo.
    It's on Windows....
Also read this Note 586895. -->
New access paths and compatibility with Windows systems
The "/ContentServer/ContentServer. dll" and "/Cache/CSProxyCache.dll" paths have since been established as fixed default values for the Content Server/Cache Servers for Windows.
The module access in the Apache Web server is not restricted to actual paths for program files. Using <location> tags, you can determine any (sub)paths that are to be used to access a module. These tags are entered in the "httpd.conf" file within the relevant module configurations. You can also define the clients allowed to access this "location" within a <location> tag with an Allow/Deny clause.
To be able to continue using the Windows paths proposed in the SAP system, these Windows paths are installed as compatibility tags.
In addition to this, you can use the new, essentially shorter paths "/sapcs" and /sapcsc" to access the SAP Content Server and the SAP Cache Server.
The "Modifications to httpd. conf" attachment to the installation manual contains a list of all of the access paths delivered.

  • Trouble with setting SLD connection of Preview J2EE + ABAP NW04s

    Hi,
I am trying to connect both J2E and NSP to SLD. J2E has connected correctly.
In visual admin, I created new entries in Jco RFC provider, (SLDAPI_J2E) the gateway/host = abap system.
In Sm59 I created new connection to with the program name = SLDAPI_J2E and the connection  looks good.
But RZ70 will dump regardless of any entry I try. "Could not open rfc connection"
    Any idea?
    Thanks

    Good morning,
We have exactly the same problem.
    Have you find solution ?
    Regards, Emmanuel

  • Trouble with Content Server connection

I am having an issue with content server on Unix.  I'm finished with content server install and need to connect my ABAP system to it via CSADMIN. But when I first enter CSAdmin, I give it my host and port. What is the unix http script name for the default install???  Only the Windows name - ContentServer.dll - is populated? What is the web address to get to the content server?
    http://<host>:<port>/???????
Do I need to do something with OAC0 and SICF first, before going to CSADMIN.  The guide does not mention anything?
    Thanks for your replies!
    Jeff

  • Router trouble with iPhone?

I had to reset my router, and after doing so my iPhone would not connect to my network.  I tried everything posted about it, but nothing worked.  I even hit the "forget this network" on the phone.  Nothing.  Well now I have the answer.  All I had to do was reset the router with a new network name.  If you use the same network name and you changed the network key on the router, the phone will not give you an option to input a new password for the network.  You have to make it think that it's connecting to a new router.  So, once I changed the name of my network on my router, the phone responded, I was able to input the new password (actually the network key) and my phone connected.  I hope that this helps some of you out there.

DId you try resetting the router?  Every now and then 6 months to a year, I have to unplugg the router and let it reset.  Not exactly sure what it is doing, maybe refreshing DHCP and other connections to the main routers, etc., but it works.
