Small Office fax problem through verizon phone line

Instead of sitting on the phone for 3 hours I figured I would try this first. I have a small office with Verizon internet and phone. I have one phone line, a credited machine, a computer and a 4 in one print scan fax copy. I was just wondering if anyone knew witch of these devices are supposed to be connected directly to the phone ports. Im having a problem sending out faxes after another employee moved around wires. Please and think you for any help! Or if you suggest me posting this some where else please let me know.

There is no standard way to determine what is connected directly into the phone line.
Here is my 2 cents though.  Generally a fax machine is connected directly into the VZ Phone Jack and a phone will connect off the fax machine.  The reason for this is in case a fax is being sent or received the fax machine will block the phone port so your landline phone will not interupt the fax transmission.  I'm not sure if the credit card machine does the same with it disconnecting your phone line so credit card transactions don't get interupted when transmitting.  If so then you can plug the credit card machine into the fax and then hang the phone off the credit card machine.  The phone should be the last one in line.

  • Verizon Phone lines on the back of my home

I live in a row home in the northeast section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  I have had a deck built on the back of my home.  Verizon has lines (wires) that run across and are attached to the back of my home.  These wires need to be relocated or removed to allow the deck to be finished and allow small children and adults access to the deck without stepping over these wires from the inside of the house.  With this said, I have call Verizon for over one month to get this accomplished.  I have no service of any kind with Verizon, and at this point, never will.  I was given three different ticket numbers for someone to come out and remove or relocate these lines, took time off from work to be home when they arrived, and not once, but twice did not show up.  On one occasion someone did show up and simply said "this is a job for the engineering department-they will call you", and I never heard a word.  The customer service at Verizon is horrible-nobody knows what department I should talk to, I can not get a phone number to the engineering department, because they are out in the field-they must be on a football field, because they are not at my house! I will take care of the problem myself, and Verizon can take care of the rest I have never in my life seen such a company of incapable people, and I deal with large companies on an everyday basis with my job. I guess because I don't have Fios or wireless service through this company, I do not exist.  Thanks for nothing Verizon, and I am positive I will see your 'engineering department' on my field soon!

  • How to use 8600 fax with a digital phone line?

Has anyone had any luck with setting up the HP Officejet Pro 8600 with a digital Phone line?  I do not have an analog phone and of course that information was never brought to my attention when i bought the printer.  I am a bit amazed that it does not work with both analog and digital.

Hi mboddeti, Here is a different link to the document.http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02891758&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en If it still does not work, go to HP.com and search for c02891758 and it will find that document.  Error codes are different though.  The voice over IP line still could be the issue, but it is possible that something else is occuring. The document has instructions on how to test your fax setup with the HP faxback service.  If it works with the test fax, it could be an issue with that particular receiving fax.

  • Can I control a computer through a phone line instead of the internet?

I have used a program called procontrol in the past which allows me to adjust sensor set points and get readings over a phone modem. How can I adapt this to labview. I am currently using logmein to control the computer, but the cost for internet is more than phone.

How much control do you need?  If you simply want to transfer a file every once in a while it shouldn't be too difficult, but if you want to see a front panel and set values on it then it would be a lot of work.  For file transfer, there's an example of using a modem to communicate with a Fieldpoint unit that you could adapt to run on a computer.

  • Problem with phone line

    Hi there,
I have been having problems with my phone line since May. The line is fine until one day I will pick up to make a call and there will be no dial tone. The tones on the keypad make a noise but the call doesn't happen. No one can get hold of me on my landline. When I get my son to do a line check the phone works again for a few days and then the problem starts again. This has all started since I got broadband. I have had two visits from engineers, the last one being Friday 20th August. That engineer told me he couldn't understand what was happening, he thought it might be the old underground cables and they couldn't cope with the broadband. I have the same issue again and am at my wits end. What should I do next?

    Hi Coomrith and welcome
Did the engineer say whether he was going to escalate this?

  • Using broadband/phone line to receive faxes

Hi. At the moment the line that comes in is split, one to my computer and one to a fax machine. Is there a way I can send/receive faxes but still use the stand alone fax to answer phone calls and send some faxes? Thanks for your help. I receive so many spam faxes that it would save a forest! I'm in the UK if that makes a difference

So, can you clarify your phone and internet connections, you mention you have broadband and one split of the phone line, so what all is actually connected to the computer? Are you using a phone-line split to the computer USB/dial-up/fax/modem or a phone-line split to DSL modem to computer Ethernet or both of these? You may need to run an additional split to get both, and don't forget those in-line DSL filters for every phone/fax/modem line.
If you want to fax from the computer you have to use the USB/fax/modem with a phone line in addition to the Ethernet line from your broadband (DSL/cable?). If you are using dial-up for internet (not broadband, very slow band), then you can't simultaneously use the fax/modem to fax while you are connected via dial-up modem.
Since you have a dedicated fax machine, but don't want to waste the paper on the spam faxes, you may have to turn off auto receive on the dedicated fax and have the computer set to receive faxes as electronic files so you can just print ones that you want to save paper, is that your plan?
So, you can use a hardware fax/phone switch to route the fax calls to the computer, or some folks use a dual numbers on a single line phone service with distinctive rings and set up the computer to answer only the fax-ringer calls. Not sure which alternative is cheaper.
For outgoing fax calls, either computer or fax can use the phone line split, just not simultaneously.

  • Phone line problem

    Hi,
Our broadband is working fine but our phone line doesn't seem to be. I have tried the normal things of checking connections, unplugging and putting back in etc but there still seems to be no dialling tone.
Any suggestions what this can be and how I can resolve it?
    Thanks!

    Hi STuartET,
Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you especially when you are having issues with your phone and it is your first time posting. As you have mentioned you have notices the DSL filter could be causing issues can you confirm if you have another one that you can replace this with as I am sure you can pick them up from any good electrical shop.
Also the following troubleshooting steps is always good to have at hand when you have problems with your phone line as it gives you steps to try and help fix the problem.

  • Faxing problems with internal modem in iBook

I have been trying to use Apples built in faxing capabilities. I use a cable connection over wireless airport to connect to the internet. Through reading in these forums I found out that you need to be hooked up through a phone line to fax—makes sense.
I am trying to do that now but encountering problems. Here's what's happening—can anyone help me out?
-faxing from Microsoft Word using "fax pdf".
-My I book G4 is connected to a phone line and connected to my wireless network via airport.
-computer appears to send fax successfully from the application but doesn't actually fax.
-i check it in the fax list, double click my internal modem window and it opens the job window for the modem. My job is still there, holding. When I click "resume" I hear a dial tone and it appears to try to be faxing. But suddenly a busy signal gets in the way and it puts the fax on hold. This keeps happening over and over again.
-I realize that maybe the line I'm faxing to is busy, but I'm also wondering if it has anything to do with my modem not being set up correctly. when I go into system preferences>network>network status there is a red icon next to internal modem and it says "Internal Modem is not set up".
My question is--how to I get my internal modem to be "set up"? In the old days I used to have my dial up info in there in TCP/IP but I don't have that service anymore. I was under the impression that you could fax just using the laptop's internal modem hooked up to a phone line and you didn't need any provider service..is this true or not?
In the "printing and faxing" system preferences window I have my phone number in there.
Can anyone help me figure this out? I'm not sure if I need any information in the internal modem set up panel and what that would be. Can't I just fax by simply having a phone line and a phone #?
    Thanks!

ebonyhack, Welcome to the discussion area!
Have you tried disabling the option to wait for dial tone?
You may have to add some commas (',') to the front of your ISP's phone number to delay the dialing. A comma causes a delay of 1 second.

  • Fax scream on the phone

    Hello gang,
My problem is really simple for you experts, I'm sure.  When I have my printer turned on, incoming calls coming in on the phone have the fax scream.  The phone line is the same as the one I use for the fax.
      Many thanks for your help.
        Scott Wycoff

Welcome to the forums @scottwycoff !
I read your post about how your incoming phone calls have the fax scream when the printer is turned on. I will try to figure out the issue with you and aim for a fix most definitely!
I am thinking as one of the possibilities, that as the phone line and fax line are shared, that perhaps the fax calls are being picked up on the phone causing you to hear the fax tones.
The fax machine could also be picking up your voice calls. You can select the Setup Menu on your printer, Fax Setup, and turn Auto Answer Off to see if this helps.
If you have a distinctive ring on your phone line from your phone provider, go into the Fax Menu on the printer, select Advanced Fax Setup, Distinctive Ring, and change the ring to the type of ring you have the fax set up to ring as. (It's common to set this as Double & Triple Rings).
Please also go through the steps in this guide to make sure the fax is set up correctly: Setting up the HP All-in-One to Send and Receive Faxes
Let me know your findings so far!
    I hope this helps

  • Dodgy Phone Line

I have been having problems with my phone line for sometime and initially thought it was mainly intermittent problems with broadband connection, but the problems using my landline has got worse, especially in very windy weather.  People phoning can either not get through or it rings a couple of times then cuts off.  If they do get through or I phone out the line is very crackly.
I have tested the line and it says it is ok, when I last phoned BT to report it I don't think they found anything and closed the case.  I am convinced the problem lies with my line being swallowed up by a tree in a garden a few houses away.  The line I can see is at very strange angles but have to say most of the line is engulfed by branches.  Does anyone know if this could be the reason for my problems?
I have said to the person who owns the tree about my line going through and that the branches are now weighing the line down in various parts, he said he would do something but he hasn't and my line is getting worse.  As I say it is definitly worse in bad weather so something is affecting it.
Any suggestions on what I should do would be great.

    Hi Elmoo2U,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting. It sounds like the branches are hitting the line when it’s windy which would certainly affect the connection. The only way to get it sorted would be to go back to your neighbour and see if he’ll get the branches trimmed back. As the tree is on his property it would be his responsibility to get it sorted.
    Cheers
    David

  • At a loss with phone line

Firstly I am stating for the record that I have a problem with my phone line. My broadband issues are just a by-product of the phone line fault.
This problem has been going on for several years, although, 2 months ago i made some progress.
The problem with my phone line occurs during extreme weather conditions, heavy rain or winds and as a result of it not being a permanent feature of my phone line. Over the past year, it has got a lot worse (broadband constantly dropping, struggling to be heard when on the phone), and after a lot of arguing with BT an engineer came out. Now bare in mind that the BT line tests came back as perfect and not a problem. engineer took one look at the cable coming in to the house and it crumbled in his hand. He also mentioned that he was picking something "odd" up on the line, but couldn't be sure what it was and seeing as the broadband connected that he would leave it.
Since the engineers visit, I have had an OK phone line, just a bit quiet, until 2 weeks ago. When we had all that rain. The crackles came back that evening, causing crackles and white noise down the phone line. It lasted an hour or so, but enough time to turn my 2Mbps bras profile into a 130k profile. 3 days later and we recover (even though some intermittent crackles persist). The very next day and we're downloading at 2.5Mbps, the phone rings and the crackles are back.
The next day I ring up and complain and receive the whole dialogue about changing me £120 if the engineer comes out and can't find a fault. Funnily enough, the crackles (being intermittent) are not crackling at the time the engineer turns up, however, he states "The is more noise on the line than there should be" and "I'm going to pass it over to the underground team and see if they can find where the fault is". At this point I am now feeling hopeful that finally the fault might be found....
Half an hour ago I have heard nothing, I decide to phone up and see if there is any news... No fault found and expect a bill for £120 is the response, from a very nice Indian lady who did seem to struggle with understanding me or at least hearing me. i protested and asked how could the engineer tell me one story and for me to then be told that a line test shows no fault and that I have to pay!
Where it currently stands, is that I have insisted that the problem still exists and I have been told it will be resolved between 24-48hours.
I will of course wait and see what BT come back with tomorrow, but I am at a loss of what more I can do. I work from home and having an equivalent to ISDN when I pay for broadband because the phone line keeps having a fit is getting a bit of a hassle. If the BRAS IP profile did not take 3days to recover after a bad storm, then I could cope, but I'm now been on a 130k connection for over a week now and am looking at having to pay 3120 just because I am trying to do something about it.
If I turned round to my customers and said I'd look at their issue, but if I couldn't see anything I'd be charging them £120, they'd move else where.
Any advice as to how I can take this forward?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I thought I had better post an update and I am pleased to say that it seems it has a potentially positive outcome.
First of all the lady I spoke to on Friday got back to me yesterday to say that yet again OpenReach had investigated my issue "outside the property" and claimed to have "fixed the problem". While I am sceptical that they actually did anything (surely the broadband should have disconnected, if they fixed anything like replacing a cable, but as I am not a telcom's engineer I have not authority to make judgement), the lady implied that I had a case to dispute any charge if it ended up on my bill.
The second was a response from a forum moderator who says that after reading my posts, my email and my fault reports, they say that it sounds like this is being caused by "a high resistance fault on your line. These can be very had to get to the bottom of unless the engineer is testing the line when condition are bad" and while notes that the fault has been closed (conversation yesterday with lady from BT), they suspect that if the line does have this type of fault, then it is highly unlikely that the fault has actually been fixed and I should contact them back as soon as the noise starts up again. Oh, and they have requested no charges be applied for the visit on Thursday.
So, fingers crossed... It does seem to highlight quite a variance in the quality of customer service that you get from BT. Plus, no matter how frustrated you get, you should persevere, as there are some good people that seem willing to help and will be on your side.

  • Crackly phone line and broadband disconnecting

For a month or two i have been having problems with our phone line and broadband connection. The phone line is extremely noisy (interferance) and when you make a call or recieve a call the broadband disconnects. I have tried different filters, routers and wires but no good. I have conducted a quiet line test and the result was i could hear nothing on the line. When i unplug the hub and just have the phone connected to the socket the noise on the phone has gone and their is no problem, connecting the hub make the noise come back. As a result of all this my broadband speeds are very low.

your drops in connection have at one point reconnected with a far lower speed than normal resulting in the low ip profile.  if you stay conencted 24/7 for 3/5 days the profile will correct itself for your current connection speed
I would as john46 suggested connected to test socket with a new filter and see if that helps

  • Phone Line Across The Street Has Branches On It

Whom should I contact to get some branches removed from a Verizon phone line across the street? I don't think it's a hazard, but something will give sooner or later. I'm not a Verizon customer, so I can't easily access anyone online. And it seems all local businesses are Verizon Wireless. Thanks!

Verizon doesn't do tree trimming, so depends on where the tree is at, and who's responsibility it is.  If it's on your property, then you take care of it, if it's on a neighbors property, they take care of it.   Sometimes the city is responsible.   so it depends.

  • No Phone Line for 1 week; moving towards urgent!

Hello All, I am posting this on behalf of my father.
    Problem
Phone line has not worked for a week; BT broadband works. Context: he lives along a country lane, nearly all his neighbours are experiencing problems with their phone line, broadband or both. Becoming urgent? One of his neighbour's husband died this week and she has had no phone line to organise the funeral. She now has a mobile phone which she can hardly use, she is very elderly. That example was to illustrate that inaction can really affect people.
    Actions Taken
    1. My Dad phoned the BT fault line. BT (to give them credit) arrived the next day. They checked the wiring inside the house and confirmed the fault lay with BT. They then confirmed that they needed to dig up the road and the job was with 'Planning' and there was nothing more they can do.
    Follow Up
    1) My Dad did not get a reference from the BT guys that initially visited.
    2) He has not heard back from BT of their Planning department.
    3) He has tried to phone Customer Services but ends up in India and gets confused. He is elderly as well.
    4) He did manage to use the Live Chat function last night and communicated the problem on his line. He got a text today to say it was all fixed and his phone would work. He got home and his phone did not work. Something he could not get his head around since BT texted him to say it would be working. Different generation, different values!!
    Conclusion
I guess I am asking for help or advice. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Illogan,
