Smart Web Pages & iWeb

Spending my federal holiday at home with a new 27" iMac and Aperture 3. I've done quite a bit of searching on this issue so please accept my apology if it's been addressed. I have a smart web page filter setup in Aperture and the filter is selected in iWeb 09. However, whenever I add an image to the smart web page in Aperture, iWeb will see the new image but the web page does not update unless I drag the filter from the image gallery in iWeb to the iWeb page. Shouldn't the iWeb page update automatically as Aperture images are added? Thanks for your input!

I believe the Iweb photo browser will only update the smart folder, not the webpage.
Believe you would need to do what you're doing by re-dragging the photo in.
I've never done it, but it looks like if you were publishing a page directly from Aperture the page it generates would be be affected by changes in the filter and you would re-publish that.
Perhaps someone else has a different slant.
Iweb forum may or may not have an idea.
good luck

  • Serious bug in Smart Web Page feature

I've lost an hour's work on a problem in Aperture 2, cannot solve it, and hope somebody here has seen the problem and can give me a workaround.
In Aperture 2, I tagged approx 400 images with 2 keywords: "JV, varsity", then created a smart web page that selects all with keywords "JV, WEB". So far so good.
But I made a mistake -- 150 of those images should have not had the "JV" keyword. So I select one of them, Lift, remove the JV keyword, then select all and stamp with the "REPLACE" option rather than "ADD". Those 150 images now show only "WEB" as a keyword. And now the problem:
When I look at the smart web page again, all 150 images still appear. NONE of them have the 2nd keyword (JV) that's clearly specified in the smart web page filter. There is no way to stop these images from appearing via the keyword filtering. They do not have the "JV" keyword but always show up when I filter on "JV" and "WEB".
Out of frustration, I delete the smart web page and try again. "Include only images with the keywords WEB and JV". All 150 images that do not belong there show up anyway. Looking at their metadata as I view the smart page, they still show a "JV" tag!!! But if I switch back to the project explorer and look at that very same image, there is no JV tag on it.
This is absolutely driving me insane. Anybody have an idea how to fix this bug?
Out of frustration, I delete the smart web page, create a new one,

Following up: It has gotten worse. I deleted the entire project, reimported it from a backup that did not have any keywords assigned to any image in the project, tagged one photo "JV, WEB" and another "varsity, WEB".
Creating a new smart web page to show images having both "varsity, WEB" -- the smart web page shows images that have no keywords at all.
Creating a new smart web page to show images having both "JV, WEB", the page shows images having "varsity" and "WEB".
I can't believe I'm the only person seeing this bug...

  • Export to Web Page

Pretty please, Apple. Let us export the sheet as a web page.
iWeb just puts it into a pdf. I need my staff to view the info, and 2 people to edit it.
    Kisses.

My people actually use Contribute CS3. The program allows them access to a folder(s) that have editable html files. They merely work on them and "Put" them back.
I assume iWeb has the same feature.
The problem Contribute has: It doesn't always preserve the size of the tables. It would be great to have it be done directly from Pages, and then saved to a html file with the updated file to upload.

As long as you don't mind doing a little post publish editing of your .js files, it's fairly easy to do. You will find them in this path on your iDisk, using the Go menu in Finder:
    Go/iDisk/MyiDisk/Sites/iWeb/Nameofsitefolder/Page_filesFolder/Page.js
Open the .js files for that particular page on your iDisk with any text editor (I like Taco, and it's free) and make the following changes to the script code that controls your movie: (you will find the movie code near the top of the page in the .js file)
    Change autoplay="false" to autoplay="true"
    Change loop="false" to loop="true"
Changing controller value="true" to controller value="false" will remove the controller from the page entirely. Make these changes in both sets of tags, (object and embed).
Make the changes and just "Save". Clear your browser cache and you should see the changes take effect immediately. Bear in mind you will have to make this modification each time you republish your site. You can also save this modified .js file and replace the republished file with it, as long as no other changes were made to the page in iWeb.

  • IWeb functions no longer work - web pages gone!! HELP!

I was working in iWeb this evening and when I went back to finish it... everything was gone!!!! I can open the program but all the menu items are dimmed and I cannot start a new page or access a previous page. Neither can I find what I was working on. I lost several hours of work!!! I also lost all the other pages that I built for clients. I think I probably still have them published on the web but no backup here. What kind of a two bit program is this?! Is there anything I can do other than throw out the program and reinstall it? If anyone has any ideas, I would great appreciate it.
Also is there a better web building program out there for the Mac. Something more reliable? At this point I'm about ready to find a stable program for the PC (shutter at the thoughts of that!!!)
    Thanks in advance

I suggest you first see what key iWeb Domain file(s) you have on your Mac's internal HD. The Domain file is normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). Since you may have multiple Domain files in different locations, you could use Spotlight to search for them — they have an extension (usually hidden) of:
    .sites2
But Spotlight doesn't look in all areas of the hard drive — so if no luck, download and run Find File to search for ".sites2". ...If you find any .sites2 files, back them up now before proceeding:
_iWeb: Backing up your Domain file_
By the way, a Domain file should open up in iWeb when double-clicked.

The following trick has worked for some:
Quit iWeb. Start iPhoto. Select a couple of photos, click on the iWeb icon at lower right and choose Photo Page. iWeb will open up and invite you to choose a template for your new Photos page. Choose any template so that the page is created and then delete that newly created page.

Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data — in regard to the Domain file, it says:
If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

You could take a look at Sandvox Pro — you may particularly appreciate its integrated search engine optimization:

No software can be guaranteed to be reliable and your Mac's internal HD may crash at any time. Even if you use what is considered by many to be "reliable", you still need to protect your data by backing it up. On the Mac, you have several options: Time Machine and the following free apps can also be used to regularly create a bootable clone of your entire internal HD on an external drive:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
...then if your internal HD fails, you re-boot with the Option key held down. Your Mac will start into Startup Manager, where you can use the arrow keys to select a Mac OS X volume to start from, i.e. your bootable clone. Besides the advantage of not losing any valuable data, you can continue working and use Disk Utility app in Applications > Utilities to diagnose the problem.
And this free SMARTReporter may give you an early warning of impending hard drive failure:

...There are only two types of HD: Those that have crashed and those that haven't ...yet.

    Shannmo-
The HP PhotoSmart 5514 is on Apple's list of AirPrint printers, so it should work.  <iOS: AirPrint 101>
One problem might be that your WiFi router does not correctly handle Bonjour data required by AirPrint.  Contact the router's manufacturer to see if there is a change to its setup or a firmware update that will solve the problem.
I had a printing problem several months ago, where the WiFi had jumped to a neighbor's WiFi that happened to have the same name.  There are a LOT of WiFi routers out there named "Linksys"!

I updated to os x 10.8.5 today and now I cannot publish changes to my web page through iweb.  iweb crashes every time I try to publish

    First do the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Next, in Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

Do you see any error messages about getElementsByClassName in the Tools > Error Console ?
That was the problem with content generated with an older version of iWeb.
Content that has been generated with such an older version needs to be regenerated with that never version and uploaded to the web server.
Never versions of iWeb should cause any problems.

Temporarily disable any rewrite rules by renaming your .htaccess file if it exists

  • Web page for iphone in iWEB

A good enhancement to iweb would be to have a model to make a mobile-friendly web site. Somebody knows whether this is in the plan of Apple to provide framework in iWeb to make a web page adapted for iPhone and other smartphone?

Jacques ~ Welcome to the Support Communities. We're just users like yourself here — so we don't know what Apple's plans are. Alternatives to iWeb adapt their site content to smartphones, e.g.

To create this scatter-plot, I selected the whole of Columns A and B. (Shift click on the Column reference tabs).
