  • How to remove smart web search from Macbook pro

I sem to have this hijack in FireFox on my MacBook Pro. No matter what I do to remove it, it comes back. Can anyone provide a solution?

If only Firefox is affected, not Safari, then it's probably a Firefox add-on. Remove any you don't recognize.

  • I have a strange toolbar called, "My Web Search Toolbar." I do not know how it got there and I have tried everything to remove it. Can you tell me in detail how remove It?

I think that this toolbar came with a program which I downloaded called Dictionary Boss. Each time I bring up Firefox this "My Websearch Home Page" come up and replace Google. It seems to me that this websearch thing has become a part of FireFox. I have tried everything including deleted Dictionary Boss and this toolbar will not go away.
    Please help me.

  • I removed Alexa Toolbar, but Alexa Web Search Remains - How to remove?

Alexa tool bar is removed and no longer shows in add-ons. However, the web search window in the Firefox 3.6 header is still powered by Alexa. How do I remove that and default to straight Google search?

    1. Type ‘about:config‘ and press enter.
    2. You’ll see a warning page, click “I’ll be careful, I promise!”
    2. Type ‘keyword.URL‘ in the filter text field.
You’ll notice the value is set to redirect to Alexa’s Search Engine.
Remove Alexa Web Search from Firefox
    3. Just double click the value field and put this in the popup box that appears:

  • Firefox has been hijacked by "My Web Search" from Mindspark and I can't remove it.

Somehow, "my web search" has hijacked Firefox. When I click the Firefox icon, "My Web Search" comes up instead. I can't find Firefox to reset my home page. The problem program doesn't appear in programs, so I can't uninstall it.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

  • HP Smart Web Printing Breaks Firefox

HP Smart Web Printing Breaks Firefox Navigation bar.
    OS: Windows 7
    Browser: FireFox 3.5.6
Application: HP Smart Web Print Version 4.6
After installing it basically broke the Firefox browser bar.
    Here is the FriendFeed Conversation

As far as I’m concerned this is by far the most intrusive and inconsiderate update HP has every released. Be where – if I had to guess I would say that HP is using EDS to do it’s update/releases. I only say this because as someone who worked for EDS for 14 years, I can tell you they are used to telling their end user what they must have how they are going to get it instead of the other way around. This is one of the main reasons I left EDS in 1999. So do not trust HP anymore. Always make a restore point before you apply any updates and only apply update when they apply to you and the way you use your computer. I for one am going to turn off HP update notices because I don't even want to know about an update unless I have some problem I need to solve.
    System Info:
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32 bit (all current updates applied as of 01/15/2009).
    Browser: Firefox 3.5.7
    Problem Area: Firefox Add-ons
    Problem and Solution:
Hp Update notified me an update for HP Smart Web Printing to version 4.60 is available. Because I like to keep my computer software up to date I clicked install, what a mistake. The first thing I noticed is that the Norton Toolbar 4.0 was missing in Firefox 3.5.7. Turned out it was BROKE and/or disables although Firefox showed it as being present and enabled it was not, along with other Add-ons for Firefox.
    Things I tried:
    1)      Exit and restarted FF (no effect)
    2)      Disable HP Smart Web Printing and Restarted Firefox (Norton Toolbar reappeared but still was not working along with other Add-ons.
    Final Solution:
    1)      Uninstall HP Smart Web Printing (I check delete/no to save anything)
    2)      Ran System Restore and restored to the latest System Check Point which was before the 4.60 update was applied because Windows was prevented from or just didn't create an automatic restore point in order to undo the update.
    3)      Uninstall HP Smart Web Printing again and again I didn't save anything (Why? I have no idea but it appeared that even though the previous version of HP Smart Web Printing should be installed it seems that the 4.60 updates are applied to it so it’s the only way I could get Firefox and the other Add-ons working right) Norton Safe Web still doesn't work right and is a 100% dysfunctional.
    NOTE:
All Firefox Add-ons seems to be working except Norton Safe Web function. The green tick mark no longer show up so you have no way of know if the site is Safe or not until you click on a link in Google search so Safe Web will check it which as far as I'm concerned diminishes the protection/function 100%. The only solution may be to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it, which at this time I've not done because I am still trying to find a way around it.

  • HP Smart Web Printing feature, problem with IE7 and FireFox3

"HP Smart Web Printing" problem with Internet Explorer 7 and FireFox 3I have a laptop that came with: Windows Vista Home Premium, Internet Explorer 7, FireFox 1.9. Everything worked fine.
Recently I bought a "HP Photosmart C4580 All-in-One" printer that came with a free software "HP Smart Web Printing".
Smart Web Printing worked fine with FireFox 1.9 browser. I liked it very much, because with it, I could print only the portions from the web page that I want, thus saving on inks. It really does more than that.
With IE 7, Smart Web Printing was a disaster. IE 7 stopped working. Every time I closed a web browser window, IE7 would stop working and start all over again. It happened all the time.
On suggestion from Microsoft Windows help desk I "Reset IE Setting". This solved the IE 7 problem , but it also removed the Smart Web Printing feature.
Next, one day I downloaded latest version of FireFox browser "FireFox 3". Once again I lost the Smart Web Printing Feature, because it was not compatible with FireFox 3.
Now here I am with no "Smart Web Printing" feature at all.
Any suggestion how can I get "Smart Web Printing" feature back. I love the feature
    Thanks

March 27th 2009 I've just downloaded HP Smart Web Print onto an HP a6500f desktop system running Vista-64.  I first installed it as a limited user and I get no icon in the IE7 taskbar.  I examined the manage add-ons dialog and it was installed but the toolbar configuration has no control icon for SWP icon.
Then I logged off and logged on as a privileged user and downloaded again and tried to install.  This 2nd installation actually REMOVED my first installation.
So I then downloaded for a third time and installed and it finished installing but there was no SWP icon in the tool bar.  I examined the Manage Add-Ons dialog and saw one in there on the left side.  I transfered the inactive icon to the active side of the dialog and then I immediately had TWO SWP icons in the task bar. (*mumble grumble*).  So I removed one and all is OK now as long as I use the IE7 as a privileged user.
If I go back to being a limited user (not an unreasonable thing to do is it?) I don't have an SWP icon.  Trying to install SWP application again only cause it to want to remove the existing installation.
I'm not very impressed with this behavior.
Is there anything that can be done to get SWP to work for limited users?

  • HP Smart Web Printing / IE8 / Windows Vista: Cannot get icon to appear!

I've installed HP Smart Web Printing 4.5.1 in IE8 running under Vista SP2.  I cannot get the icon to appear.  Under Tools/Manage Add-ons, "Show or Hide HP Smart Web Printing" is reported as "enabled".  When I select "Show or hide HP Smart Web Printing" under the double arrows at the far right of the tool bar, nothing happens.  I see others have had some success at getting through this, but nothing seems to be working for me.  I've tried removing and re-installing the utility to no avail.  What do I have to do?

Hey HP ...  Does anyone from HP monitor these posts and provide answers, as one might expect?  Is anyone listening?  Is anyone there?  Does anyone CARE?

  • Google web search results "not right" in Firefox

I'm having a problem using Google web search (both toolbar and straight from google.com) in Firefox. When I search for a keyword, lets say a business name, and expect it to bring up the business's website, the results include videos, some blogs, news, etc. Nothing from the business's main website are included in the search results. There are no problems with Google web search in IE or Chrome.
Here's a specific example: Search "Mozilla Firefox" in Google using Firefox there are 31,600,000 results with the top 10 being random websites about Firefox browsers. When I search "Mozilla Firefox" in Google using IE, there are only 130,000,000 (4 times more), with the top results being www.mozilla.org/, and other "main" Mozilla sites.
I've run all the recommended Malware/Antivirus fixes, reinstalled Firefox, updated the few add-ons/plug-ins I have, and made sure that Google search settings are the exact same for all browsers. Nothing is working.
Is anyone else having this issue or have a guess to what may be causing it? I've spent a few hours trying to fix it and at this point am ready to give up on Firefox, which is (was) my go to browser.

  • Serious bug in Smart Web Page feature

I've lost an hour's work on a problem in Aperture 2, cannot solve it, and hope somebody here has seen the problem and can give me a workaround.
In Aperture 2, I tagged approx 400 images with 2 keywords: "JV, varsity", then created a smart web page that selects all with keywords "JV, WEB". So far so good.
But I made a mistake -- 150 of those images should have not had the "JV" keyword. So I select one of them, Lift, remove the JV keyword, then select all and stamp with the "REPLACE" option rather than "ADD". Those 150 images now show only "WEB" as a keyword. And now the problem:
When I look at the smart web page again, all 150 images still appear. NONE of them have the 2nd keyword (JV) that's clearly specified in the smart web page filter. There is no way to stop these images from appearing via the keyword filtering. They do not have the "JV" keyword but always show up when I filter on "JV" and "WEB".
Out of frustration, I delete the smart web page and try again. "Include only images with the keywords WEB and JV". All 150 images that do not belong there show up anyway. Looking at their metadata as I view the smart page, they still show a "JV" tag!!! But if I switch back to the project explorer and look at that very same image, there is no JV tag on it.
This is absolutely driving me insane. Anybody have an idea how to fix this bug?
Out of frustration, I delete the smart web page, create a new one,

Following up: It has gotten worse. I deleted the entire project, reimported it from a backup that did not have any keywords assigned to any image in the project, tagged one photo "JV, WEB" and another "varsity, WEB".
Creating a new smart web page to show images having both "varsity, WEB" -- the smart web page shows images that have no keywords at all.
Creating a new smart web page to show images having both "JV, WEB", the page shows images having "varsity" and "WEB".
I can't believe I'm the only person seeing this bug...
