SMTP error with entourage 2004 on OS 10.5

I'm running Entourage 2004 on OS 10.5. For the last week we've had an issue with receiving emails. For several days it wouldn't download any, presenting the error "An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic." (-3259 )
" Halfway into this, it downloaded the bulk of the emails from the days it hadn't connected, but never finished and gave the same error again. Emails can still be sent fine. It's an AOL email account.
It's set up to receive from an IMAP server as imap.aol.com.
It's set up to send from smtp.aol.com, overriding default port with 587, password required.
I started to set up a new account with this email, and when it tried to verify the account settings, the IMAP settings verified fine, but the SMTP settings didn't.
I found one forum that said "smtp.aol.com" had to be changed to "smtp.aol.com:[email protected]"
That didn't work (couldn't find the server)
So...it's sending emails just fine and they even get received by other mail accounts in entourage, but unable to verify the smtp settings for receiving.
Yet it cannot receive emails and verifies imap settings just fine.

You have them swapped, SMTP is for Outgoing mail... usually!
For Incoming Mail Server, try: imap.aol.com.

Sync with Entourage 2004

I am trying to sync my BB Bold with Entourage 2004. First I used pocketmac which was just about useless as it would either not complete the sync or make duplicate entries in both calendar and contacts. I have tried Missing Sync and while the sync always finishes it does makes duplicate entires on the device. I have totally cleaned up Entourage so there are no dups on the desktop. Can anyone suggest how I can successfully sync the Bold to Entourage ?? Thanks

The push descriptor indicates that your machine is trying to push—or, send—data to an Unfiled calendar that does not exist elsewhere. 'Elsewhere' could be in the truth database on that machine, at .Mac or on another synchronized machine.
It's clearly not on your local machine in iCal anymore. If you reset the truth database by using the Reset Sync History… option in iCal, it should no longer be present on .Mac, if you subsequently synchronized. If you opted instead to Reset Sync Data and pushed records from .Mac to your machine, it is likely that it once again resides in your copy of iCal. If you opted to Reset Sync Data and pushed records from .Mac to your machine, it will not be present in iCal.
The most reasonable explanation, given what you have described and the error dialog you printed, is that this Unfiled Calendar exists on another synchronized Macintosh. If that is the case, you must also delete it from the copy of iCal on that machine.
If you don't have another synchronized machine in your pool, I can give you a terminal command that will completely obliterate your truth database and require that you start all over again, reregistering all of your clients—including Entourage—and starting all over.
You should, by the way, disable Entourage synchronization to isolate it and temporarily simplify your synchronization pool, until you have resolved this issue. Do not simply delete the Entourage calendar from iCal, for that will result in the deletion of matching records in Entourage itself during the next synchronization event.

Tiger 10.4.5: Can't Hotsync my handheld with Entourage 2004

I have a Palm Tungsten E and in the past have had no trouble hotsyncing it with my Microsoft Entourage 2004 using the Conduit Manager that came with the application. But since I upgraded my OS to 10.4.5 last week, I can no longer hotsync. If I press the hotsync button on my Palm, it just hangs. I finally have to cancel, at which point an error message tells me that "the connection could not be established."
Once, and only once, I was able to hotsync this week by launching the Conduit Manager software in my Palm folder. But I have not been able to reproduce that result when I tried again. I've also tried different USB ports, to no avail.
The Microsoft website is mum about this problem, so I don't know if anyone else has a solution? As of now, I'm stuck.

Chuck- sorry, I though this was a Bluetooth problem. Anyway, I did spend some time (2 hours!) on the phone with Palm and the first thing they told me was that they were having problems with 10.4.5 and that I should download the latest version of Palm Desktop for my device. They also gave me instructions for deleting all existing PD stuff from my system (unfortunately I no longer have it- all files containing "palm", of course, plus some plists I wasn't familiar with).
I did the above and my USB sync works fine. Whether it would have worked before the reinstall but after the 10.4.5 upgrade I don't know.
You might try a reinstall of Palm Desktop, and if that doesn't work email Palm for the clean install procedure.

Pocket Mac Slow Sync with Entourage 2004

It takes as much as 2 hours to sync my contacts, calendar, and tasks from Entourage 2004 to my Blackberry Cuve 8330.
Does anyone have a solution or suggestion? I appreciate your assistance.

As per the reply to your other post with the same question:
This is not something to worry about or be concerned with. Firstly, the paging counts will depend on how long the system has been running since the last boot, but MacOS is designed to actively page out and in, so in itself, the fact your system shows it is doing so means nothing at all.
If your computer is exhibiting some indication of a problem, I suggest you start a new thread here and describe what you are experiencing. That way we can help you directly with the specifics of your problem. On the other hand, if you have just seen the comments regarding paging and system performance and have checked your own Mac to see what it's doing - the answer is that in the absence of an indication of a problem, it's very likely doing exactly what it ought to be doing!

I cannot get my iphone4 to sync with entourage 2004 on my MacBook

I am having trouble syncing my MacBookpro entourage calendar (2004) to my iphone4. When it does work it is at least 4 or more hours delayed. I have checked all areas I can find to resolve time zone issues... Help!

Contacts sync with Entourage

Since I downloaded the latest iPhone update the next time I connected to sync all the contacts with Entourage they were removed. If I add in a new contact it does sync. On the iPhone (iTunes) Tab Info there is no option to select groups which I believe was originally shown as is still shown for Calendars. Any thoughts??? Thanks.

I'm having the same problem. Entourage contacts will not sync to iPhone lost everything on iPhone. The itunes option to sync with Entourage 2004 is gone?

Sync Services error while Syncing with Mac & Entourage 2004

I got an error '.Mac Sync Error' screen while syncing from Entourage 2004, v11.3.3 for Mac. OS X 10.4.10. Some data did sync, but the entries that did not are apparently untraceable. It said, "You can't modify a record that doesn't exist."
I tried wiping the old Addressbook on the Mac side to eliminate any corrupt
data. The first sync with Entourage and subsequent sync gives the same
error. Funny but my iPhone syncs great with Addressbook and doesn't give a
similar error. It may be that this error is on iCal instead. How do I find the error from the number given?
I checked the database in Entourage with Database Utility and no errors were
found. I also backed up the database and compacted it just so I'd have a
copy.
The database does somehow get duplicate information to Addressbook with
subsequent syncs which end up duplicating entries on both Addressbook and
Entourage. iCal seems reliable but I don't know...

E-mail sending from PL/SQL fails with SMTP error 550 must check for new....

We have a issue like this. We have a e-mail program (PL/SQL stored procedure which is called from a 10g R2 form) which sends e-mails using UTL_SMTP. It was working but suddenly from day-before-yesterday stopped working. Mail admin says he did not change any mail server paras.
The DB is in Linux so is the mail server. We finally did a code change. Now the mail goes to SMTP server but the mail does not go out of it (to a gmail address). We did a trace of the SMTP log and found out that it throws *550 [email protected] must check for new mail first* .

Finally figured out the problem and fixed it. Now it is working.
*"must check for new mail first"* means that before sending mail you have to check your mails (i.e. download) your mails first from the mail server, because the normal setting is for SMTP servers is that you can send mail only if you received a mail. So, when you receive a mail (i.e. check mail), your IP is recorded in the SMTP server log. Now if you send a mail, only mails with the IPs which has received any mail will be allowed to send mails outside.
In order to only a send a mail without receiving any mail first you have to use SMTP authentication.
I.e. After

utl_smtp.EHLO(c, p_smtp_host); You have to give UID/PWD for the SMTP server like this:

messages which are not RFC compliant. That will allow MDaemon to accept the malformed messages without date headers..Doing this solved the problem. Now we can send mails to outside mail boxes (like Gmail). In Gmail, when we checked the inbox there was no mail. It had gone the Spam folder. This is also important since you have to check the spam folder since Gmail will think it is spam. Once the mail is flagged as "not spam" it will start coming to your inbox.

Cant get email with Entourage (office 2004)

All of a sudden I cant access email thru either gmail or att in Entourage. I believe my computer is so old it cant be updated to later versions of Office. Is there any other way to correct/troubleshoot this without reinstalling? I have no idea where my disks are since I moved. Using OS X Tiger 1o..4.11. Help! I know this isnt really a Mac question, but would really be grateful for any ideas.

I have Office:Mac 2008 nicely running on a G4 tower with 10.4.11 from 2004, and Entourage works fine. 2008 was the last of the Office version the support PowerPC Macs. We also have been able to use the much older older Office X on an older eMac and, again, Entourage works fine. So I don't think it's a version issue with Entourage.
Can you access either account through your browser? That's important to check that the accounts are active and your ISP is doing its job.

Entourage 2004 Error 4362

Hello,
i use to see this in Entourage X and am seeing now in Entourage 2004.
There is an email message (or 2) in my delete file. it does not show when i click on the folder, the sorting folder shows it as in my yesterday email and Thursday. when i try to select the message by clicking on or in these folders, the program freezes and i get the error message "unknown error (4362) has occurred." the folder also shows that whatever message it is has not been read, so i know it is there.
this error requires me to force quit the application to regain use of it.
in the older version, i figured out this was tied to my junk filter and the message in question was always spam of some type. The work around was to shut the junk filter off, then i could delete the message.
that doesn't work here.
any ideas?

Wife can't send or receive Yahoo/Verizon email, I get non-deliver reports with an smtp error.

My wife hasn't been able to send *or* receive email, via the web or via POP3. When she tries to log into the Verizon/Yahoo mail web page she gets "Temporary Error 16" and when she tries to send mail from her OSX Mail application, it never leaves, even though Mail says it is connected to outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
Worst, when I try to send her mail from another Verizon account, it comes back as undeliverable due to an SMTP error:

Problems Migrating Entourage 2004 to All-Mac Apps

Greetings All,
Background: After careful consideration, I've moved from a Treo 650 and Entourage 2004 scenario to the new iPhone and all-Mac Apps platform.
It hasn't gone easily: lots of missing, critical data (below).
I don't understand why thousands of business people aren't posting about this: my data is invaluable, and compromised by chunks of it missing.
I have now spent about 15 hours researching this, and posted in several Google Groups. It's rather tedious, and I have lots of friendly people answering rather than people with answers. I like friendly people, but seriously, I'd rather have a hostile person who knows how to do this at this point.
I have read in several places of the scripts of a Paul Berkowitz called "Export-Import Entourage 1310," but the documentation provided doesn't make clear these issues are addressed.
I have written (five times) Mark/Space regarding their Missing Sync for the iPhone, but they have reading-comprehension issues, and I'm still not clear if they can get the notes from either my old Treo 650 via it into my iPhone.
Here is what is missing:
a) Can Paul's scripts (or anyone's!) re-export/merge Contacts such
that categorized/grouped are preserved? This is of great importance.
b) Will it export Entourage's notes, and will they be
correctly titled, and in a useful place on the iPhone? (I have about
400 notes), again categorized?
c) Any way to export my Entourage filters/rules to Apple's Mail?
d) Any way to export the large mailing lists (groups) I had in
Entourage to Apple's Mail?
Thank you in advance for your informed answers, and I must say that this has been as annoying as Apple thinking we can't figure that when AT&T raised the rates, the savings on the new phone was wiped out.
Think Better, Apple. If you're trying to get us to use your platform, document how to make the switch.

I did. I figured it out. 30 hours of Groups, trial and error, and then, a Eureka, elegant moment.
20 minutes for the poor sap trying to get their data out of Entourage/their Treo.

Sudden Error in Entourage

So I wasn't doing anything special. I went into Entourage (2004) and went to send an email. Out of nowhere I got this error:
4.4.5 Error writing message temporaries - error creating queue entry for [email protected] file /var/data/ims/queue/tcp_local/018/ZZfee74TL6V7T.19
For each attempt at sending the mail, the filename changed at the end.
This error also follows me if I try to send emails from any of my other accounts. arg.
But yeah, I can't seem to find anything on the net regarding this error, except for some pages filled with miles of code that I can't follow.
Any help would be appreciated.
Oh as a side note: Im an idiot and can't find my OS startup CD.

SMTP issues with XO

I am having trouble sending email using my concentric (xo) account when I am not using them as an ISP. I followed their instructions (http://hostinghelp.xo.com/email-macosx.php?id=xo.com) plus I have changed to port to 587.
When I try to send email I get an error message (The server response was: <[email protected]>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found).
The XO help desk told me, "Mac Mail 2.1 does not support the ability to specify @domain.com as part of authentication on the SMTP server. It will work on the incoming mail server, but causes errors with the application when tried for an SMTP server." They suggested Entourage as an alternative.
Is there a solution to this issue?
I'm running 10.4.8, Mail 2.1 on a 15" PowerBook.

If I'm reading the SMTP server settings correctly and
the error message provided which indicates your
domain is cnc, the settings should be as follows:
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.cnc.com
Authentication: Password
User Name: [email protected]
Password: The account's password.
If I'm reading the SMTP server setting correctly, the
user name for the SMTP server is your entire email
address which the Mail.app does support.
I access an email account with an authenticated SMTP
server that requires the entire email address be used
as the SMTP server user name which works without any
problems.
I tried about every combination of what you suggested and what they suggest in their help (which is confusing and sometimes contradictory). I suspect that it must be possible, but I'm not figuring it out. Thanks for the help.

Troubles with Entourage & other Office programs after freezing of computer

My iMac G5 blocked. Reopening Entourage 2004, there was following message :
"Entourage cannot access data. To attempt to fix the problem, rebuild your
database".
During rebuilding the database, I had following message :
"An error occurred while attempting to verify your database. An I/O error
occurred."
I have also done "Repair Disk", "Repair Disk Permissions", ... (no problems
doing it) but the problem remains.
I' ve tried to make a copy of the file .../Main Identity/Database", but got
the following message :
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "Database"
could not be read or written (Error code -36)."
How can I make a copy of the file ?
How can I recover my data (Database = 6,4 Gb). Exists software the open/read the file "Database" and extract some data that now I'm missing.
After to the blocking of the computer, I've als a problem with Excel 2004 and
Word 2004. When opening these programs, the following message appears :
"An unexpected error occurred while trying to load Microsoft Framework
Library".
Is there a link with the problem of Entourage ?
I have no problems with other identities in Entourage 2004 or other users.

Do yourself a big favor that you should have done before migrating. Move all shares onto a DFSR share and use GP to map all required drives.
Now that you have done it the hard way I recommend usijng a logon script to dump lists of mapped drives then decide which should be mapped via GP and which should not or should be left to the user.
There is no easy answer or tool which is why almost all migration documents suggest fixing this before the migration.
Start by dumping the session drives in a logon script.
