Smudge brush not working like in regular Photoshop

I just got Touch for my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 yesterday. I needed a blending/smudging capability and saw that the toolset for Touch had both blur and smudge. So I got it. Blur seems to work fine...but smudge only seemed to darken my colors and formed a wierd edge, hard edge betwee the colors. Not at all like in the regular Photoshop...I have CS6.
I am thinking of returning the Tab 2 and getting the Note instead which has pressure sensitivity (or so I have heard)...but if there is no decent paint program out that will allow for halfway decent blending then I will simply return the Tab and wait a bit longer for the paint programs to evolve in this new format.
Has anyone else noticed this effect with smudge? Is there a setting that will make it work like it's full fledged cousin?

I'm also having problems with the smudge/blur brush. My tablet (Samsung Note 10.1) was bought so I could do my work on the fly using a touch sensitive stylus with Photoshop. However the smudge brush simply isn't working as it should and this all but renders PS redundant in my portable work flow as I use this particular brush a lot.
Like the original poster my smudge brush seems to be simultaneously burning/darkening. The harder I lean the more the image underneath darkens. Likewise if I lift the pen off between strokes each successive stroke darkens. Do it a sufficient amount of times and I end up with black even if I'm blending along the edge of 2 pale hues! I'm a very experienced Photoshop user so I'm fairly confident that the fault lies not with my brush settings but rather seems to be an unwanted side effect of the brush.
As the Note tablet is a new device I'm guessing that there will be more complaints about this popping up as and when the Note becomes more popular as a creative tool. Meantime I find myself unable to do the work I bought the tablet for in the first place.
Any ideas what software I can use to work around this? I need something which will allow me to work in layers with a smudge tool enabling me to - for example - smudge and blend cross hatched lines to create a highly finished tonal surface. Ordinarily I would use PS for this! The ability to import this precisely smudged image into PS Touch for further editing would be a large bonus.

That's where I would begin, too, with
Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
First we need to determine if the issue you are experiencing with the computer is software or hardware based. Once we have gotten things sorted out there should be time enough to make you decision about keeping or returning it.

Photoshop by itself cannot process raw image data. That is why the Camera Raw plug-in was developed. You could try the DNG converter and convert your images to the DNG format and then the Camera Raw that you have would be able to open them. I can't recommend Lightroom because you are using Vista, and Lightroom 5 cannot be used with that operating system. It may be time for you to get a new computer and upgrade your software.

I've updated to iso5 on my iphone 4 but some of the features are not working like the lock screen camera feature. Have I done something wrong?

I've updated my iphone 4 to ISO 5. I could not connect to icloud yet however does this expalin why some of the features of ISO 5 are not working like the camera lock screen feature?

to see the camera icon, double-click the home button when you are on the lock screen. this will show the music controls and the camera icon. double click the home bgutton again to close them.

Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

Standard brushes not working in Photoshop or Illustrator

I have a lot of standard brushes that came with the CC brush library that are not working with any of the programs they come with. When I hover over the brushes they say "Type: Sketch Brush This brush format is not supported by Photoshop/Illustrator"
So where can I use these brushes then? I would like to create brushes using the Adobe Brush CC program on my phone/tablet, but I can't use them in my programs. ... What am I doing wrong here?

They are probably brushes from Adobe Brush. You have to target them in Brush to either make them work in AI or Photoshop.

Photoshop brushes not working

All my Adobe programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, Elements, ects) the paintbrush commands (or simply brush) will not work. Someone suggested uninstalling Photoshop and performing a clean reinstall. I tried that but now the Photoshop installer program wants me to put the original program CD in the D: drive - unfortunately my D: drive is a harddrive so there is no way for me to put the CD in there!! I also suspect that all my Adobe programs are corrupted not just Photoshop. Does anyone know what happened and how I can go about taking care of the problem?

To me it sounds like windows changed your drive letters or something. D drive should always be your CD/DVD drive by default.
My computers look like this:
A: is for the old floppy drive (I don't have one so it is turned off in the bios)
B: floppy old disk not used
C: primary drive
D: CD/DVD
E: Second drive
F: USB stick
So either you set it up this way or windows changed the sequence.
What OS do you have? I will do some searching about changing the drive letters.

Adjustment brush not working in camera raw cs6

The adjustment brush in Camera Raw PS6 is not working properly. The slider makes a slight change but I can do no local adjustments. All other parts of Camera Raw seems to be working. I have restored the computer. Is there a toggle I do not know about?

Help! The liquify tool is not working as expected in Photoshop CC.

I have used CS5 for a couple years and used the liquify tool very frequently without issue. I subscribed to Photoshop CC 2 weeks ago and have been having this problem with the tool:
When I use Bloat, Pinch or Reconstruct, it seem to over-do its function and completely distorts the photo, even with a single click. If I move the cursor even a millimeter, the whole image gets sucked into a blank circle the size of the brush. See examples (I used Bloat for these):

I have tried adjusting the brush density, brush rate. I have reloaded Photoshop several times. I searched online for a solution and tried the "Kelby trick" by pressing Shift while starting up Photoshop. None of those work. I have only had CC for two weeks and have not changed any settings (except increased history states to 99) and have not installed any plug-ins or anything.
Any ideas how to fix this? It used to be one of my favorite tools!

OK, that's strange. I see you have brush pressure set at 1, and the other settings are sensible, so a bit of a mystery. Have you tried both mouse and tablet? If it happens with one and not the other you could check that device's settings. Might be down to deleting preferences unless someone else has a bright idea.

Brushes not working in CS6

I just installed the Student and Teacher edition of CS6 Design and Web Premium. I am having a major issue with Photoshop--my brushes are not working. Smooth airbrushes are appearing with spattered edges (I do not have noise turned on or any other adjustments made), and the erodable brushes are not working at all. Everything else within CS and Photoshop seems to be working fine.
Can anyone suggest a solution?

FierceWraps if I had to guess I'd say you targeted a Layer Mask and painted black on it with a somewhat soft brush, so transparency is showing through the layer.
If that's not what happened, perhaps a full screen grab showing everything (Layers panel especially) could be helpful.

Adjustment Brush not Working

in the Develop module my adjustment brush is not working, all the other sliders work, what is wrong?

Are you moving the sliders with the "pin" for your brushed area selected? When the "pin" is selected, it looks like a black circle surrounded by a very light gray circle and then a very thin black circle, like this:
What numbers do you move the sliders to?
Did you accidentally turn off the brush adjustments? The little doohickey highlighted in the red box, shown here, should be in the top position
Lastly, I am asking you to perform a very specific experiment, and report the results, and it does not appear that you have done so, or at least, you have not stated clearly that you have done so.
Please, click on "New" in the brush tool, then set Exposure to -4 and Flow to 100 and Density to 100, and brush. Report what happens.

Clone Stamp Tool and Healing Brush not working - why?

As pointed out in the thread subject line, both the clone stamp tool and healing brush are not working for me in Photo Elements 7.
When I am attempting to use it, I get the message: "Could not use clone stamp tool because the area to clone has not been defined". Well, this is not the case since I did define it with command Alt + left mouse click.
Background:
Photo Elements 7 is installed in Windows XP Professional SP3. The latter runs as a virtual O/S with Sun VirtualBox on host SuSE Linux 11.1 (Gnome).
I have run out of ideas as to what the problem could be, so I am requesting assistance from the forum community. Thank you very kindly in advance for replies.

Do you mean photoshop elements 7 and not premiere elements?
The fix posted above only applies to linux os systems, which is
different from mac and windows.
On windows vista Alt+left click is to set the clone source.
Try the following steps one at a time.
1. reset the clone stamp tool by clicking triangle on the far left of the
tool options bar and select reset tool.
2. Go to Edit>Preset Manager and click Done in the dialog that appears.
3. Reset the elements 7 preferences by holding down the Shift+Alt+Ctrl keys
at the same time you start elements 7. In the dialog that appears, click yes.

Adjustment Brush not working correctly

Since moving to LR 5.6 the adjustment brush has not worked correctly.
I am unable to adjust the size of the brush using the scroll function on my Mac mouse.When I try to do this I can see the slider moving indicating the size of the brush but nothing actually happens.When I try to adjust it using the slider itself again nothing happens.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or can you offer some advise please

The ACR plug-in files for PS-CS6 and PS-CC are in different folders, but the camera profiles and lens profiles are in a common folder. Since updates to ACR are typically handled by the product, itself, not direct-link downloads that you must have saved for ACR 7.1, I don’t know what the error means in relation to CC having a newer ACR.
What version of ACR did you have installed for CS6 before you tried to update to ACR 7.1? Are you trying to downgrade from a higher version of ACR on CS6?
The first thing I would try is install ACR 8.3 RC for PS-CS6, using the CS6-specific link at Adobe Labs.
If you really need to go back to an earlier version of ACR, then the Adobe-approved method is to uninstall PS, entirely, then re-install it to get the older version.
It may be that you have to uninstall both CS6 and CC and then install CS6, first, and get it updated the way you want it, then install CC, again, and update it how you want it. That seems like a lot of work, though.
Why are you wanting to install ACR 7.1 for CS6?
If you plan ahead, then the way you can switch between different versions of the ACR plug-in, is to save your Camera Raw.8bi file each time you upgrade (I rename mine so the extension is the version: Camera Raw_8bi.71 and leave them in the same folder), and just replace whatever version of the ACR plug-in with that one you want.
