Sneak Preview Update: ABAP Edition just released!!

Hello again everyone,
I know you've all been waiting a long time for this... So, without further ado, I am very please to (finally) announce the arrival of the Sneak Preview ABAP Edition on SDN!!
For the ABAP edition (Windows OS, that is), you need to download two big files - the ABAP installation (1.25GB) and the SAPGUI (500MB). You can find all the details and the download links on the page <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/uuid/cfc19866-0401-0010-35b2-dc8158247fb6">Sneak Preview SAP NetWeaver 04</a>.
The Full version is still going to take some time. I'm sorry I don't have a release date at the moment, which is why I removed the "coming soon" from the info page. Please know we're working on getting it released as soon as humanly possible.
In the meantime, I hope you find the ABAP version worth the wait and take it for a good test drive. Let us know what you think and happy ABAP-ing!!
Regards,
Kathy Meyers, SDN
ps. Don't be surprised if you have long download times, especially in the first few weeks after release. We expect a heavy demand for this download, which will most likely affect server performance. I apologize for the inconvenience!

Kathleen -
Thank you very much for giving us some good news!!!!!!!!!
I am bit confused about the contents of the download though!!! Your announcement says it is ABAP only, but download page description says it also includes Java Engine and Developer Studio.
So....does it mean this Web AS download package consists of both ABAP and Java Stacks with Developer Studio?
I understand this download package is not a full edition (meaning...it does not include EP, XI, BI etc components). But is it a full Web AS (i.e., AS with both ABAP and Java Stacks).
I would greatly appreciate your clarification.
Thanks a lot.

  • Sneak Preview ABAP Edition just released

The Sneak Preview: ABAP Edition is now available. Kathy just announced it in the forum: Sneak Preview Update: ABAP Edition just released!!
The link to the Sneak Preview stays the same: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/uuid/cfc19866-0401-0010-35b2-dc8158247fb6
Basically this is a "slim" or "mini" ABAP installation with a compressed database component, comparable to the "slim" Java version. It's supposed to run with a minimum of 1GB but 2GB RAM is recommended.
Feedback on this edition, like the others, should go in the SDN Code Sample/Download forum (Software Downloads).
    Cheers,
    Marilyn

It would be really awesome to see the community weigh in on their experiences with this installation.
I'm going to suggest that we find a way to reward participants for doing a good job of sharing and documenting their experiences with the installation.
One idea would be to give a "double point" allocation.
That means that good content contribution (articles, blogs, detailed forum posts in a separate marked thread) that articulates the substance of what a downloader does in the course of the new ABAP Sneak Preview installation: tips and tricks, installation guide details, observations and detailed opinions,  will be <u>doubly rewarded</u>.
Hey, this is a very time consuming activity, as I am experiencing myself at present.
    Thoughts?

  • Sneak preview sp11 java edition install hangs

I posted this in the NetWeaver forum originally but now realize this might be a more appropriate forum.
I am trying to install the sneak preview sp11 java edition to a brand new box. The installation hangs on the "Load Java Database Content" step. The last thing in the jload.log is:
    08.11.05 00:24 com.sap.inst.jload.Jload dbImport
    INFO: table J2EE_CONFIGENTRY created
It's been running for 24 hours now and has not moved off that step. The java.exe process is using 50% cpu so it apparently thinks it's doing something. I've seen the posts regarding errors with the install and the Timezone change fix, but I'm already in a timezone that has DST.
    Any ideas?

I had the same problem. I tried reinstalling a couple of times, but the same thing happened - the installation was just hanging and using 100% cpu time.
As the installation had not been tested with JDK 5.0 I had installed the newest version of 1.4.2, namely 1.4.2_10.
Then, just for kicks, I uninstalled 1.4.2_10 and installed 1.4.2_08 - 40 minutes later I got the "Successful install" screen.
    I hope this helps.
ps: it should be noted that I installed on a freshly installed Windows XP (and later on a freshly installed Windows 2003 Server - also without problems) with German regional settings, just to make sure - I have later reverted the regional settings to my locale.

  • NetWeaver Sneak Preview 2004s ABAP - Can't logon with German

    Hi SDN Members,
yesterday I've installed my copy of NetWeaver Sneak Preview 2004s ABAP. The installation runns smoothly. Licence installation did not worked through transaction SLICENSE. So I logged on as User nspadm and did it on command line. But now to my problem: I can't logon with language "DE". I get the error "Select one of the installed languages". I've checked Transaction SMLT and German looks like English.
    Regards
    Gregor

    hello Gregor,
there is the 'zcsa/installed_languages' parameter in the profile (NSP_DVEBMGS00_<hostname>) set to 'E'. If you'd like to run your Sneak Preview in German language you have to remove the parameter from the profile and then restart the system.

    Many Thanks - Calum

    Hi,
I'm afraid this problem was never resolved. I'm away for two weeks but plan to get to the bottom of this error when I return ( 2nd July). It may be worth posting it again and hope you have better luck than me. Be sure to state that you have checked the list of system requirements - will save some time.
    Hope it goes well.

  • Sneak Preview NW2004s ABAP TMS Error

    Hello,
I've installed the Sneak Preview NW2004s ABAP Preview. I've changed the default language to german. When I now try to import a transport request via TMS I get the following error "Wählen Sie eine der installierten Sprachen aus"  which means "select on of the installed languages" in english. Any idea? The importqueue in the TMS shows a red flash.
    Thanx for ny help
    Stefan

    hi Stefan,
First define the STMS in your ABAP server. Overview -> Transport Routes. Here you can define your Transport routes. Do this after changing your language to the one u used during your Installation!
post me if this solves your problem...

  • Sneak Preview Update: Full Java Edition is now available on NW04 SP15

    Hi SDNers,
Here's something that might make your new year more interesting... We just released the SP15 version of the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/downloaditem?rid=/library/uuid/cfc19866-0401-0010-35b2-dc8158247fb6">sneak Preview SAP NetWeaver: Full Java Edition</a> on SDN.
This version - like its SP11 predecessor - includes the following components:
    - SAP NetWeaver Application Server (Java)
    - SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio
    - SAP Enterprise Portal
    - SAP Knowledge Management
    - SAP Composite Application Framework including Guided Procedures
    - Interactive Forms based on Adobe Software
Note: We've updated the system requirements and installation instructions, so please take the time to read through the information carefully.
You'll need to download 4 rather large files with this release (total approx. 5GB), so your patience is required! Especially in the beginning when everyone is trying to download at the same time, expect that the server performance will suffer. You might try downloading at off-peak hours to avoid the rush.
Please post your questions and comments about the Full Java Edition in this discussion forum and we'll try to get you an answer as soon as possible.
    Enjoy and Happy New Year!

  • View designer in Sneak Preview 2004s Abap

    Hi to all,
    just a short question.
The view designer with all UI elements (standard simple, standard complex & Standard container category) is avaiable in Sneak Preview NW 2004s Abap ?
If not (because i cannot find it), can i install it as a separated package (if yes, where i can download it)? Or the latest version of the NW Sneak preview 2004s (SP8)already contains it ??

  • AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002 just released

AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002 has just been released.
Hopefully it will fix any problems that people were having with AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001.
It also seems to work fine with any MacBooks and MacBook Pros that have been un-officially updated with 802.11n AirPort Cards from Mac Pros according to a posting on Accelerate Your Macintosh.
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/index.html#S22475
PowerMac G5 Dual 2 GHz, MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have a Dlink 624 which I had been connecting to through WPA, but that went to heck once I installed this update.
Here's how I kinda got it working. Some of these steps may have nothing to do with it, but I'm including them to be safe:
-I ended up deleting all my airport entries from the Keychain manager, and deleting all my preferred networks in system preferences.
-Then I manually downloaded (ethernet, of course) and installed the 2007-002 update again.
    -rebooted, when prompted.
-Then I tried to reconnect to my home network, which failed. However, I noticed that, this effort at least created an entry for my home network in the "Network" system preferences.
-I edited that entry and clicked the box for "show password" and noticed that my password was a messy string of characters. I erased it and re-entered it.
-Immediately rebooted. My macbook connected with my network as soon as it came up. I think that this whole method probably works along the same line as dennisyow's method.
Now here is why I say it "kinda" works: Now that I have it working, my connection is decently solid so far. Even after putting the 'book to sleep and waking it up.
HOWEVER, rebooting is a crapshoot. If I fully restart/reboot my 'book, it may connect with my home network immediately, or it may just refuse to connect and keep giving me error messages. At that point, I keep going into system preferences and reentering my password and rebooting until I get a connection again. In the meantime, I don't reboot. I just sleep the computer.
Like I said, this is using WPA-PSK. I have no problems with WEP connections so far.
At least it's kinda working, but it's very aggravating.

  • PERFORMANCE UPDATE 1.0 just released via Software Update!

I just got a "Performance Update" through Software Update that states it is provided to "Fix hard-drive related pauses experienced by a "small number" of users".
I received this update on ALL of my machines that are running Snow Leopard, so it doesn't seem to be MBP specific.
Went ahead and installed it and I guess I will see if it makes any difference. I will be curious to see if this solves all the "Spinning Beach Ball" issues that have been rampant on this forum.
Was surprised to see that no one had posted about this yet.
Message was edited by: Sir Macsalot

    Awesome Bagwan! :o)
That sure sounds like a ringing endorsement of this update! Considering how much of an issue this was for you before, the fact that you are no longer seeing the problem is pretty darned convincing to me!
I agree about the way Apple handled this, but they have always been very "Cloak and Dagger" in the way they respond to problems like this. Not wanting to scare off potential new MBP customers etc.
The little comment about "small number of our customers" is precisely what I am referring to. ;o)
The last thing Apple would want to do is publicly acknowledge this as a major bug because their MBP sales would fall through the floor until it was resolved.
People have to always remember that Apple is a business, and they need to always protect their bottom line. Their biggest one being SALES.
I am in no way an Apple apologist. I don't agree with a lot of the ways they do things when there are problems, but I do understand the motivation behind their actions.

  • SAP NW Sneak Preview (tuning)

    Hi,
I've installed SAP NW sneak preview (Java Full edition) on my notebook (Intel Celeron M 1.6GHz, 1.5DDR2 GB). I want to setup it for less memory consumption cause it will be system only for my development (portal + KM). I just wanna to have system well suited for scenario when one only one person work on it. Have anyone experiences running Sneak Preview on notebook ? Could you share memory and other settings for your hardware ?
(btw. system start me in time about 20 minutes, can I reduce this time ? or you think it's just issue of less powerfull processor ?)
    Thanks a lot,
    Best regards,
    Miroslav Koskar

    Hi,
Which version you downloaded is it
    SAP NetWeaver 04 SP11 or SAP NetWeaver 04 SP15
The following are the Hardware requirements
    Full Java Edition System Requirements
Operating system: Windows 2000 (Service Pack 3); Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 1) or Windows Server 2003
    NTFS-File systems
Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher or Firefox 1.0 or higher
At least 1 GB RAM, 2 GB are recommended
Intel Pentium III/1.1 GHz or higher (or compatible)
8 GB hard disc space recommended
    High-resolution monitor (1024x768 or higher, 256 colors)
Sun Microsystems J2SE SDK version 1.4.2_08 (Sun JDK 1.5 not tested). You can download this from Sun Microsystems at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html.
If you have SAP products already installed on your computer, ensure that none are called "J2E".
The file C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\services (Windows 2000) or C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\services (Windows XP) must not include an entry for the ports 3601, 3201 and 50000 to 50030. A possible entry can be excluded by using the hash symbol (#).
If no DHCP server is available on your network (which dynamically determines the IP address) or your computer is not connected to any network, you need to install the virtual interface adapter MS Loopback Adapter. This is described in detail within the contents of the download package.
    Hope this helped
    RK
