Snow Leopard 10.6.3 "Could not copy necessary support files" Install Error

I bought the box set version of Snow Leopard 10.6.3. I am getting an error when installing it on my Macbook pro model A1150 2.16ghz. The error message says that it cannot install the support files and to restart the computer. I am currently running 10.4.11. I already checked all the hardware and everything passed. I also erased the hard drive as well and still cannot get it to work. I read in some forums that it is sometimes due to faulty RAM. I had recently installed a 1gb chip, so I removed that and still was not able to get it to work. Help please??

First, your hard drive may be failing. Second, maybe it's not the new RAM module but the old one. Third, your drive may be corrupted. Try this:
Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
7. Quit DU when formatting is complete and return to the installer. Install OS X.

purchased a song from iTunes, i tried to transfer it to my itouch, but i received an error "iTunes could not copy because the file could not be converted". how do i convert the song (well, i thought it will automatically be converted)?

    Problem Fixed:
Remove the song from your itunes library, then go to the itunes store and try to download it again. It will say something like "this song has already been purchased, would you like to download it again for free?". Click yes, and it will download again. This worked for me, hope it helped

  • Could not write the AIF file (session error)

I receive the error "Could not write the AIF file (session error)" when trying to record to Sound Track using any of my USB input microphones. Does anybody know how to resolve the problem?
Also, does anybody have any suggestions about what product to use to produce good multi-track audio files. I am interested in both a hardware and a software solution. It seems that using the standard Apple software that comes on the new G5s does not offer any good solutions.

Update to Snow Leopard then update Final Cut Studio. Chances are your problem will have been fixed.
In my experience, in previous iterations of STP there were a number of serious bugs related to saving files. Running everything up-to-date, however, I am no longer having those problems (knock on wood).

  • "The installer could not copy the necessary support files." Error message on 0S X 10.6.3 Install

I have just wiped my iMac 21.5' Core i3 3.2GHz as I am going to sell it. This process went as expected but when I try to reinstall the OS from the disk that originally came with the system (10.6.3) it gets around 30% into the install and then produces the error message "The installer could not copy the necessary support files." No matter what I try the outcome is the same and the installation fails.
I did have the hard drive replaced on this iMac a couple of years ago as it was of a batch that apple said could go pop one day. Do the hard drive and the OS X disk that comes with the system have to match, or is it just a case of a faulty disc? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    HI davidd92392148,
Is this error occurring for all PDF files that you try to open? There is an issue where all file icons can change to the PDF icon after installation, so is it possible that the files you're trying to open have been affected by this issue (and aren't actually PDF files)? Please see Application, file icons change to Acrobat/Reader icon.
If that document isn't the key, then please tell us more about these files. Where are they stored? Did they open in previous versions of Reader?
    Best,
    Sara

  • Snow Leopard (10.6+) - could not copy extended attributes to *

I have a NAS device running Samba version 3.0.26a.
Many files I download with Safari, view with iPhoto, or use in many other OS X applications, get extended attributes added to them.
These extended attributes "cannot" be copied to my network devices using the Finder copy dialog. Finder will copy the file, report it failed to copy extended attribs, then delete the file!
However, the cp and rsync commands work, but cp complains about the extended attributes. But at least it actually copies, and leaves the file on my network appliance!
Here is a summary of the log:
    mbp-stnt-09-01:Desktop josh_miller$ cp LexmarkX940eX.dmg /Volumes/projects/_Software/
cp: LexmarkX940eX.dmg: could not copy extended attributes to /Volumes/projects/Software/Lexmark_X940eX.dmg: Operation not permitted
Here is an example of an Extended attrib on that file:
    mbp-stnt-09-01:Desktop josh_miller$ xattr LexmarkX940eX.dmg
    com.apple.diskimages.recentcksum
All other OS X versions back as far as I can see, work fine. This is a new issue with Snow Leopard and I'd very much like it corrected!

If you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over posting here or submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • How can I tell where the OS (Snow Leopard) is? I'm not sure if it is on the SSD or the regular HD.

How can I tell where the OS (Snow Leopard) is? I’m not sure if it is on the SSD or the regular HD. I just had a rough weekend trying to back things up with Time Machine and I think the OS was copied to the regular HD, or could be in two places? How do I find where the OS is? If it is on the regular drive I want to put it on the SSD.
    Thank you very much!

Some recent systems don't observe that convention - not sure at the moment about Snow Leopard but I have a feeling it doesn't.
Copy the following into the AppleScript Editor (in Applications/Utilities)
set dsk to the path to startup disk as string
    display dialog dsk
    click the 'run' button.

You'll need to provide some more information .... what current mac mini do you have? Click on the apple in the left corner of the menu bar, click about this mac, and what does it say for processor, memory, and os x version?
When you say you have no DVD, do you have the mac mini server or is the DVD broken?
You can't do anything with 10.6 Snow Leopard on a PowerPC mini, however, if it is an Intel-based mini, you could probably hook up the systems in target disk mode to install 10.6.

  • "Could not copy a file to the requested location." error

Hi - I'm running Adobe Lightroom 1.4.1 (latest) on my iMac which is running Leopard's latest version. Suddenly I'm getting an error when importing to Lightroom. I have used different CF cards, so I'm sure it's Lightroom. Either one or two photos import (out of a large amount - this happens whether in RAW or JPG) and then it quits with a pop-up, which at the very top says "Import Results", and under there it says, "Some import operations were not performed." In the space below there's a header that says, "Could not copy a file to the requested location. (92)" (Not always 92, sometimes 200 or something else), and there is a triangle to expand and all the photo file names are listed below.
Everything was running fine until yesterday, nothing changed. I have screen shots of the error if needed. Help??? Please! I have so many photos to import!
    Thanks for any help,
    Aviva

Same problem here only with images burned to disks today, it is fine with images burned to disks 3 days ago. This is happening on two computers one is running XP with Lightroom 1.4 the other is running Vista with Lightroom 1.3. I can import one image at a time but no batches off DVD or CD disks, I have not tried directly from my CF cards. We have found a work around; download all images to temp folder on desktop then import into Lightroom after imported delete files in temp folder it works but takes a lot more time and space on hard drive.

  • Error 8062 when I try to copy or move files on my macbook: "This operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8062)". Can even not install new software now!!

Since a few days when I try to copy or move files on my macbook, I often get an error message saying "This operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code -8062)". And then it just quits the copy or move.
I searched a lot on the internet, but only found solutions for cases you cannot empty the trash due to this issue.
I tried those solutions for my trash and that helped after some trying.
However, I still have the problem with copying and moving files.
I even cannot install new software now, as it has to copy itself to the programs-directory, and gives the same error-message.
    Who can help me??
Cannot seem to find any info on it on the support-forums or elsewhere.
    My user-account is administrator, I use a 13" Macbook Aluminium (Late 2008). Mac OS X 10.6.8 CPU 2Ghz Intel Core Duo, RAM: 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Tips I received so far (thanks to A-Mac via Twitter http://www.a-mac.nl and Remco Kalf http://www.remcokalf.nl/)
    - make sure you have at least 10% of your harddisk in free space (I had only 5%).
    - do a PRAM-reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379)
    - perform a hardware test (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509)
    - make a complete backup (with for example Carbone Clone Copier, see http://www.bombich.com/)
    - after complete backup: use diskwarrior (boot from Diskwarrior DVD, first perform diagnostics, then perform "Rebuild" which rebuilds your file directory).
So far I only cleared up some space on my HD, and already the problem occurs less.
Still, I will go through the other tips too.
    (will post progress)

Sorry, but that is correct. You need Snow Leopard to sync your phone and the latest version of iTunes and you old G5 cannot run that.
