Snow leopard 10.6 to 10.6.8 with safari crashes.
I have a 2009 mac book pro. I was experiencing slow boot up, to the point the the computer would not work. I erased the hard drive and reloaded snow leopard 10.6. I them used migration assistant to bring my information over from three months ago. I am trying to update to 10.6.8, but I keep experiencing installation error. Also, safari doesn't work, it crashes at start-up. Therefore, I can't download the file directly. Any help would be great.
After you re-install Snow a Leopard, run Software Update to get to 10.6.8 before using the Migration Assistant.

10.7 Lion installed. Correct?It sounds like your Snow Leopard install disk is the disk that came with another model of Mac (grey lable with no pictures). If so, that's not legal and won't work. You need a retail (white label with the picture of a snow leopard) copy of the installer for each system that didn't come with Snow Leopard.

I have just upgraded to Mavericks and have been using Time Machine on an external disk with Snow Leopard. Can I continue to backup with Time Machine on the same external disk or do I need a new disk since the operating system has changed?

I found that Time Machine in Mavericks will sort it all out for you. You shouldn't need to buy another backup drive, unless you have insufficient space left and can't afford to delete whats on there. It should just work fine. -
I used Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac (have iMac with Snow Leopard) and the audio does not synch with the video when playing in iMovie. Any suggestions to fix?
Thanks for the reply. I tried playing with detaching the audio in iMovie, but with 20+ hours of video to correct, it would take too long. After 28 hours, Corel/Roxio tech support replied that it is a known bitrate mismatch problem and they have no real fix. I strongly suggest not to buy this product.

We upgraded or computer from os x to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 now our icons for safari and mail won't open
Drag the icons from the Dock, go to the Applications folder and drag Safari and Mail (one at a time) to the Dock. Don't release the mouse button until the adjaxent icons move out of the way for the one you're adding.
That should compensate for the updates to Mail and Safari introduced with SL. -
I am upgrading to 10.8.3 snow leopard and it has been 3 hours with a white screen - is it supposed to take this long?

It looks like your MacBook Pro is restarting. Just hold the Power button until your computer turns off, and then turn it on again, so OS X should start properly -

I have a 2009 iMac 4,1 2GHz intel Core duo it says here I have 1GB of memory. I had it running on snow leopard 10.6.8 I still have the SN software that i bought to made the upgrade. Had some guest staying at my place and they deleted the running os and a lot of files and stuff..., now is running on leopard 10.5.8 and it's giving me a lot of problems because is soo obsolete, also hte computer is crashing all the time and every time I try ti install the SL dvd, the computer won't read the dvd and I'm keeps booting me off. Is not getting better at all and now when I restart the iMac before I get the grey apple screen, the folder of death icon flashes, (I already lost my Macbookpro due this situation. What can I do to resolve this aggravating and frustrating Issue. Need help now ..Please

A 2009 iMac cannot be an iMac 4,1; they are 9,1 and higher. Did you mean to type "2006?" That would be an iMac 4,1. We need to pin down the model issue before proceeding.
It could be the drive, not the disk, that is dirty. Try a drive cleaning disk, usually about US$5-15 at home entertainment, electronics stores and office superstores -
I want to install snow leopard in my macbook (late 2006), but Im going to change my hard drive in two months. So i dont know if I have to wait for my new hard drive or not.
You're not breaching the licence (if I read your question correctly) as the OS will only be residing on one computer at once. Re-installing after changing the HD is a normal procedure.
Although the easiest way to do that is to put the new HD in an external enclosure, format it for Mac and clone the existing drive to it using the Restore function in Disk Utility or one of the backup cloning applications like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper.
Then swap the drives and you're up and running instantly. -
Is there anyway that I can sync this Motorola G5 dual, OS 10.5.8 with my ibook OS 10.6.8 so I can use the quicktime application on the Mororola? I need to network the two computers and if someone could kindly tell me how to do this with either wifi, USB, orFirewire, I'd be very grateful. My ethernet connection is in use and I only have one and no hub. Doing this will give me the ability to work for a site that needs my expertise in recording but I have old equipment right now on the recording end. No chance to upgrade at this point as we're broke and I'm severly injured, so I am trying to find a workaround that will let me access this copmuter, with snow leapord to work with the old one with (Motorola G5 dual w/10.5.8). It means a few bucks to us if I can make it happen, and my family really need to dough. It will keep me from having to convert things to a youtube format, take the extra time involved to do that, when, instead, I could just take screen recordings instead. Unfortunately, I don't have Pro Tools on this computer or all would be fixable.

The latest version of Quicktime as new as it sounds doesn't support screen recording on a powermac G5 Motorola chip with OS 10.5.8 which is the highest os I can go with that machine. If I can sync the two computers so I can get the application to record from my newer computer then I'm ok. I just don't have the recording application for audio that I'm using to demo for the website on the laptop as it's about 10,000 dollars. So, I have to use the older computer to do the audio presentation and try to get the newer computer synced to it so I can use the new version that works on snow leopard to record a screen shot that will hopefully appear on my laptop instead of the old machine. Hope that makes sense. It's a bit confusing but in a nutshell it's like this:
1. I am a Pro Tools Instructor which is the state of the art application and recording device for audio and movie scoring and I have a new job where I make small snippets of tips using Pro Tools which I'd like to record with quicktime on screen as they happen
2. the best version of Quicktime Pro available for the Power Mac, OS 10.5.8 will not do screen recording on it.
3. I can use the Quicktime application from my newer laptop but I need to sync it to the old machine
4. I'm hoping but I don't know, if I do this, that I can record Pro Tools in action from my new machine buy seeing it on this laptop screen and then recording it with the new quicktime.
5. If I can sync the two computers, I'm hoping this can happen but I can't use my ethernet connection as I have it used to connect to my recording console and can't afford to buy anything new like an ethernet hub yo connect the two so I'm hoping that there's another way to connect them.

I can't install Snow Leopard on a brand new hard drive with a brand new optical drive.
I need help please. I have a 2009 MacBook Pro. The hard drive crashed a while back so I bought a new one. The original Snow Leopard disc that came with it was scratched so I bought a new one of it as well. After trying/failing to install Snow Leopard on the new hard drive about a dozen times I bought a new optical drive as well. I installed the new optical drive today, tried to install Snow Leopard again and STILL got the same installation error messages. Any help that anyone might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.

Drive Partition and Format
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
7. Upon completion quit Disk Utility and return to the installer. Complete the Snow Leopard installation. -
I recently had a new hard drive installed in my macbook pro (2009 model). Previously I was running snow leopard and refused to upgrade as I knew it would cause my pro tools to become incompatible, however when I received my knew, hard drive due to my old one becoming corrupt, the apple techs had installed lion as the OS, I updated to mavericks on the off chance the incompatibility was just with Lion. However I my Snow leopard disk is also incompatible with the new OS, I would like to know if there is any way to install snow leopard onto my mac while it is using mavericks?
Restart the computer with the disk in the drive and the C key held down and install Snow Leopard onto a blank partition or drive. If needed, use the Disk Utility to repartition or erase the internal one.

Adobe Acrobat 9.41 Pro+ on Snow Leopard 10.6.5 + Network users (Windows server 2008) = CRASH!
Adobe Acrobat 9.41 Pro will work “great” on the admin account, however through the active directory log on of network users, every user gets the long crash report upon opening the application.
Permissions are set so “everyone” can gain access, however the crash issue is not a decent setting on the Mac environment.
Will welcome any thoughts..comments… and suggestions.

Permissions on every Adobe Acrobat folder on the computer are set to read/write for every user of the program.
Software Type: Using the DVD purchase with the Education program, and the serial number does accept, and download the software from the Adobe web page.

FF 3.5 [apologies; I mistyped 3.15] worked perfect with Snow Leopard. NO problems.
But '''everything''' after that, till FF 8, crashes left and right.
Facebook crashes the most within few short seconds.
And NO different language websites even open.
I read online to use Safe Mode and try. I did. No change.
I read online to reset font cache or or something using atsUtil from the Terminal. I did. Nothing.
It is super frustrating. Same problem in my wife's Mac as well.
Should I stop using FF? I heard Chrome is good.

Thank you.If you have a Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard, then use it to restore from. Other than that, you will need to get an optical drive and run your install disks that came with your computer. Of course, you will need your Snow Leopard updater if you still have it since you can't get it from the App Store.
I may be wrong about it not being available. I found a like from apple where you can still purchase it. It may still work.
