Snow leopard not supported any more? security updates for safari

Apparently the latest security updates for safari have been released for lion & mountain lion but not for 10.6. I have had some problems updating to lion so I'm still on snow leopard. Does this mean snow leopard is not officially supported any more? Not sure if this should be of concern to me. I would like at least the security related updates to be up to date on my machine.

Don't hold your breath.
With the possible exception of the odd critical security patch (like the recent Java ones) there are unlikely to be any further updates for Snow Leopard.

  • Help! I downloaded and installed the a security update for safari last night and after it rebooted my system quit recognizing my password and quit working, taking me to a utilities window.

I let my system download and install the latest security update for Safari  yesterday, 28 Apr 14, and when it rebooted, it wouldn't let me login.  Instead it took me to a utilities windown that allowed me to verify my h/d then told me it couldn't be repaired so I would need to save all of my documents (not sure how since it won't boot up) and reinstall OS X.  Help!

    terrelld,
if you’ve been making regular backups to date, then you could just restore from the last update which you’d made before installing the most recent Safari update. If you haven’t been making regular backups to date, you can try the method provided on this Apple page, in the “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility” section. If you’re not already making regular backups, then I’d highly recommend purchasing an external disk for use as a Time Machine backup destination once you’ve gotten this resolved, so that this sort of problem would be more easily resolved in the future.

We upgraded or computer from os x to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 now our icons  for safari and mail won't open

Drag the icons from the Dock, go to the Applications folder and drag Safari and Mail (one at a time) to the Dock. Don't release the mouse button until the adjaxent icons move out of the way for the one you're adding.
That should compensate for the updates to Mail and Safari introduced with SL.

  • All of a sudden TACO by Abine was not supported any more on Firefox 28, so I updated to 29 and it worked again, now it says it is not supported on 29, why? fix?

Please advise how I can make TACO by Abine work again. It was great, and worked when I installed 29, and now the next day I get the same message that it is not supported. That is silly, how can it be supported one day and not the next? Please help!!

I think this is an add-on issue it self? On https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/targeted-advertising-cookie-op/ there is a mention from someone posted on February 25 2014 stating:
"''It works when it manages to start. Ever since I updated to Firefox v26, it is a 50:50 chance that this plugin is enabled. Sometimes it starts, and sometimes it gets disabled saying it is not compatible with this version of Firefox. Same problem has carried forward to Firefox v27 also."''
Also, the last version of this add-on is from May 8, 2013. So probably the add-on has issues and it is not Firefox 29.
Maybe the developers have an answer? At the URL mentioned above there are some links to get in contact with Abine.

  • [SOLVED] Archlinux does not boot any more after update

    Hi all,
yesterday I decided to update my Archlinux system again after postponing the updates for some weeks.
In general I update anything except kernel stuff, but this did lead to some dependency problems recently,
so I decided to make a full upgrade now via pacman.
After restarting the system, the kernel refused to boot. It told me, that it couldn't find my root partition /dev/sdc1 and left
me in an almost useless recovery shell. The error was:
ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device /dev/sdc1
Has anyone an idea, what might have happened? I had to install Ubuntu into a free partition to post this
topic. The disks and partitions are okay, I managed to "boot" using the old kernel, but of course the system
remained useless in that case due to wrong kernel module versions.
Thanks in advance for any hint, how to proceed.
    Cheers, Zmann

    Hi all,
thanks for the quick replies and sorry for the delay (children prioritized :-)
Yes, I'm using an older SATA controller (more or less 6 years), so the problem might be related to what you posted.
I was not able to boot the old fallback kernel, same error message. The fallback kernel simply uses a different initrd
file, perhaps I should think about a more sophisticated approach.
Nevertheless I already checked the file /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and it did not contain a hook called autodetect. So maybe
the mkinitcpio won't help anyway? Should I prefer using the suggested LTS kernel instead? I assume, this is done by booting
using an archlinux CD, then chroot and using pacman? Maybe it's sufficient to chroot from the currently running ubuntu instead?
Or will the booted kernel have any influence to mkinitcpio or the like?
    Cheers, Zmann

  • What happened to iWork?  I updated to Maveric on my Imac and it is not supported any more?

I upgraded to maqverick and now I work is no longer available

Which versions of iWork are you using?
The versions from iLife '11 still work, and there are newer versions which will be installed when you update the old ones. If they are older than iLife '11, I don't know if they will work, but I'm pretty sure you cannot update those versions for free.

  • IPhone not working any more with update

I have an iPhone 4s that use to work with some other devises and are no longer working due to allowing an update. The phone at one time worked with all of these devises. Beats stereo, IHome alarm clock, and a docking plug connected to my truck stereo. Each of these used to also charge my phone and or iPod and play my music but not now. Is there anything that can be done? I have spent tons of money on apple products this is frustrating to say the least. 3 iPads, 1 iPhone 4s, 3 iPhone 5, 2 desktop computers, 1 laptop, 1 apple TV, and probably 10 or so iPods. It's not worth anything if I can't use it. Also, now the have changed the dock on the new phone. Why ???? In my opinion the apple products are going down hill

I've uninstalled and reinstalled and none of that works.
Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

During the last year i was using my Iphone under this APPLE ID :***** , but i forgot to change it on "FIND MY IPHONE"

If you changed your Apple ID from the old email address (that is showing up) to a new one, but just forgot to update it on your iPhone, try these steps.
    1. Use your current Apple ID password
Trying using your current Apple ID password. If that doesn't work, continue to the next step.
    2. Sign out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime
If you are currently signed in to iMessage or FaceTime
Sign out of iMessage or FaceTime:
iMessage: Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
FaceTime: Go to Settings > FaceTime, tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign back in to iMessage or FaceTime:
iMessage: Go to Settings > Messages, then tap "Use your Apple ID for iMessage".
FaceTime: Go to Settings > FaceTime, then tap "Use your Apple ID for FaceTime".
You should now be able to sign out of iCloud. You will still see your previous Apple ID when signing out.
If you are not signed in to iMessage or FaceTime
Sign in to iMessage or FaceTime:
iMessage: Go to Settings > Messages, then tap "Use your Apple ID for iMessage".
FaceTime: Go to Settings > FaceTime, then tap "Use your Apple ID for FaceTime".
You should now be able to sign out of iCloud. You will still see your previous Apple ID when signing out.
    3. Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't work, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud and try to sign out.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud and sign in with the new Apple ID.

  • Latest Security Update for Snow Leopard

After installing the latest Security Update for Snow Leopard, my MacPro is having sleep issues, it will not wake up, the drive seems to be spinning w/o awakening.. I have to manually shut down and reboot. Then all is fine.
    How do I fix this????
    MacPro 10/6/8
    2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Zeon
    12 GB RAM

Don, I did check with the update and I must have installed it because there is nothing available. This problem started yesterday, 2/11/12 and is continuing today.
I am checking to see if the update is the issue, or if my computer has a different issue. The only problem seems to be the disk spinning at wake up from sleep. I can shut down and reboot. Thankfully.

  • Is Apple going to release a security update for Snow Leopard to patch the new 'bash' bug?

What are the chances we will see Apple release a security update to patch this bash bug vulnerability? I really love snow leopard and don't want to update. At the same time, I don't want my computer to be vulnerable! Apple is still selling snow leopard, so are they still maintaining it?

    STWriter wrote:
OSx 10.6.8 IS INFECTED TOO -- news says ALL for about 25 YEARS !
I posted a site link -- check the thread.
10.6 does have the bash bug (I confirmed that a few replies back in this thread, and I mentioned the 25 years in another reply to this thread). But that is NOT an infection. Bash did not catch it. The bug was not put there on purpose. And the bug itself does not actively do anything. It is a flaw that can allow a web server using server side scripts written in the bash shell scripting language, or a server side script that invokes bash. Or a user that allows anonymous remote ssh logins. Or has enabled the CUPS web management interface.
All of which was said before in this thread. Along with why it is most likely not a problem for the typical Mac consumer.
This is a serious problem for many web servers.  And there are instructions for patching bash (see above).
The typical Mac user does not do the things that put them at risk. And if they know how to set their Mac up to put themselves at risk, they are knowledgable enough to follow the patching instructions.
