So iChat isn't owned by Apple?? I'm so confused...
Okay, so I'm a little lost here. I used iChat once on my dualcore G5 about a year ago, with an AIM account.
Now I have .mac account (paid; not trial), and suddenly iChat won't even start at all (it shows up over by trash can area of dock as a program running for about 1 second than immediately closes). I've tried clearing the cache and deleting the prefs/.plist files to no avail.
So I gave up and when over to my brand new MacBook Pro to give it a try, it runs just fine but when I put in my dot mac ([email protected]/pw) account info, it returns an AOL message saying that the account is invalid.
AOL?? I'm not logging into AOL, I'm logging into iChat with my .Mac account. Is the whole iChat talk-to-your-friend-across-the-country technology simply a sanctioned chat client tapped into the existing AOL network?? .mac doesn't create it's own iChat-to-iChat community and network with a bridge to those on AIM? I'm so confused by this. If I'm paying for .Mac now, I shouldn't need AOL-anything, right?

Yeah, my password is longer than 16 characters. Does that mean I can enter only the first 16 characters for logging in? Or would I be forced to shorten my entire dot mac account password to 16 or less?
Very astute catch on your part! Thanks. Never would have expected password length as the culprit when it logs into dot mac just fine. However, since you note that iChat is actually using an alien/outside network to run its chat services, said network could have lower security (shorter pw length maximums, etc.) that'd be incompatible.
So, that raises another question: As I understand it, last I reviewed AIM years ago, that iChat offers significantly better video quality in chat than any AIM clients offer, but the AIM limitation isn't network based but rather a limitation of the AIM client itself compared to iChat's capabilities?

The dilema is in the title. I don't own any Apple devices. I used to though. I owned a nano I bought music for through iTunes. But now I own an Android, and a PC. But I'd still like to access and listen to my previously purchased music that I bought through iTunes. However, I can't access the iCloud. I downloaded the iCloud Control Panel for PC. It asks me to sign in with my Apple ID. But when I try to sign in, it says I'm not signed up for the iCloud. But there isn't anywhere to sign up online! Unless I just haven't found it yet. I can't find anywhere to sign up online or in iTunes. The lack of tech support and the difficulty of use is precisely why I switched to Android and PC. I just want the music I PURCHASED.

Songs appear to be missing
Songs containing DRM (Digital Rights Management) might not appear in iCloud, or might appear grayed out. This can occur if your computer is not authorized to play that content. Try authorizing your computer, then manually update iTunes Match. To determine what Apple ID your computer needs to be authorized for to play a specific song:
Locate and select the song in your iTunes library.
Choose File > Get Info.
In the Summary tab, locate the Account Name field in the right column. Write it down.
Click OK.
Choose Store > Authorize this Computer.
Type in the account name from the Summary field and enter its password. Click Authorize.
Choose Store > Update iTunes Match.

You can't transfer to another Apple ID. You would have to sign in under your account on the computer and then download the content.

The iTunes Store sells songs in AAC format. Most Android phones can play AACs. Just sync them to your phone per the instructions with the phone.
If by any chance your phone does require MP3 format, you can use iTunes to convert the files, per this guide:
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - Apple Support
(This conversion does not require burning.)
For future reference, note that the iTunes Store is really optimized for people using Apple devices. You might find it more convenient to buy music in Mp3 format from Amazon Digital Music or Google Play Music. -
We own 5 Apple devices but for some reason I cannot get iTunes to recognize one of the iPads. The other 4 show up just fine and we can sync and do all the stuff we are supposed to do, but this one device is never recognized. I've tried updating the software, reinstalling iTunes, using different ports on the laptop, different cables...just about everything. I have NEVER been able to connect this one device, but all the others are fine. I'm at my wits end. Is there someone out there who can help a relative novice figure out what's going on? If the phone was previously owned and is locked to that owner's Apple ID the ONLY way you can activate it is to get that person to release Activation Lock. This is an antitheft feature of the phone; stolen phones are useless.
If you purchased the phone new you created the Apple ID, and will have to remember it. If it is only the password you have forgotten go to https://iforgot.apple.com -

There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage. There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.
