So, it's best to wait on upgrading to 2.0?!

Imagine my disgust (obvioulsy along with others) I find out a great new 2.0 update was available........I am like...*** I have to pay for this? I take a step back and think, well maybe it is worth it.....I dig deeper......it wasn't and isn't (my iPod already came with the mail apps when I bought it in Feb).
I was being asked to part with money for a few bug fixes and one addition.....the App Store. Never mind this is the first time on any firmware update that I have been asked to pay for.... what a rip off.
I nearly take the plunge and upgrade only to read horror stories about it going wrong etc. I decide to wait.
I then decide to open iTunes, and buy some songs.....I get new license agreement....that I cannot buy ANYTHING unless I upgrade to 2.0?!?!?!? *** x 2....is this some kind of joke which either Microsoft or EA are up to? Is this the new Apple model of shaft your customers at every given opportunity....?!
I gather that this 2.0 release was rushed and was poorly executed in terms of cost and who/what should get it free.....
Apple, you have done yourself proud..you have stooped to an all time low....

Allow me to at least welcome you to the boards.
Ok, first thing's first: On Friday, I had iTunes 7.7 on my MacBook and still had 1.1.4 on my IPT before upgrading. Yes, you have to accept the new T&C (that's with any iTunes upgrade, I believe). But you are in no way forced to purchase 2.0. Quite simple, if you would see the posts I've had on here, you would gather that I think 2.0 was released too early as well. Battery life is drained like an SUV gulping the gasoline. The worst part is the amount of times my iPod Touch has restarted itself or the numbers of times I have had to initiate a hard reset. In less than 5 days of owning 2.0, I've already restored the IPT twice.
I cannot see that you are forced to purchase 2.0 in any way. I wasn't. I do see that if you do upgrade to 2.0, you might be unpleasantly surprised. I've warned a friend who has the original iPhone that he needs to proceed with caution if he decides to upgrade 2.0. Besides, 2.0 bricked a cNet person's first-generation iPhone (see here: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-9989039-94.html). So as a word to the wise, be careful. I miss 1.1.4, but also like the apps. Its a two-fold situation here.

  • Best to wait befire upgrading memory or hard drive ?

I'm a soon to be new Mac owner (looks like September), and I was wondering what you did concerning upgrades -----
Just buy the Macbook as is - run it make sure no trouble, "then" updrade the memory ? - I'm not thinking about hard drive change "maybe" down the road --- a 7200 rpm disk.
My only idea is ----- if the system needs to be returned for defects - would they give me another with the same hardware configuration I purchased. Example - I order and have Apple install 1GB at my local Apple store - if they need to give me a new system - would that memory upgrade be ok as it's a "custom" system ?
I know I want 1GB of memory, and the Apple price of $100.00 is very good, just wondering if there would be any problems.
There is no reason why I would want to return it ---- just if something goes wrong - I want it fixed or if it's declared a "lemon" - (which I don't even want to think of) - I want a new replacement.
    Your thoughts.
    Bob

Bob, I suggest that you buy it stock and run it for a bit. Do the updates and get a feel for what it does out of the box. Then order 2GB of RAM from a reputable third party like OWC or Patriot RAM from New Egg. It should cost about $1600-ish.
You can also upgrade the HD at any time, but if you do I would hold onto both the old hard drive and the stock RAM. Stick the HD in a SATA/FW enclosure and use it for backup. Keep the RAM around incase you need to take it in for service. I have read many stories here about how Apple techs have blamed user installed RAM for problems that were clearly not RAM related.
You aren't going to get much on eBay for the RAM, so stash it somewhere just in case.

  • Wait to upgrade iTunes 10?

Since it seems so many people are having problems with iTunes 10, should I wait to upgrade after I receive my new iPod nano (6G)?

First thing: I downloaded a new 100 mb version of iTunes. How could the problem have anything to do with security settings?
iTunes is just a standard download, but iPhone updates do some special checking with Apple during the download process. Firewalls and security software can interfere with this.
Second thing: if the app was backward compatible with the old OS, why would I have to update the OS in order to have it work? I can imagine applications that might only work with a new OS, but I think of the tail wagging the dog.
New OSs are backwards compatible with older apps. Some newer apps use features added to the iPhone by OS updates, so won't work with older OS versions. If developers were not allowed to use these features, what would be the point of adding features to the iPhone.

  • SAP Best Practice For Unicode Upgrades - NetWeaver 2004s

    Team SAP,
I have a customer that is starting to plan for a Unicode upgrade.  The question from the customer is as follows:
What is the SAP Best Practice for Unicode Upgrades?  They will be upgrading from a BW 3.5 System to NetWeaver 2004s, and their question is ... should they:
       a) Perform the Unicode Upgrade At The Same Time As Their BW 3.5 > NetWeaver 2004s Upgrade, or
       b) Perform NetWeaver 2004s Upgrade first, and then at a later date, perform the Unicode Upgrade?
Thank you in advance for any guidance or counsel you may be able to offer.

  • Should I wait to upgrade InDesign and InCopy Software?

I are currently running InDesign CS4 on a MAC with OSX 10.7.3. There are 9 InCopy users all on PC's that edit over the network. Everything was working ok until I got a new computer and started running Lion. Since that time my InDesign has crash multiple times, with autosaves not always working. I was hoping to wait for CS6 which I know is coming out soon but the crashes are costing me a lot of time.  My question(s) are:
Is anyone else having this troupble and if so what have they done?
Should I go ahead and upgrade now instead of waiting for CS6 as I had planned?  Will that solve this problem?
Thank you for your answers in advance.

I moved the document off the server to my desktop and so far no crashes. If I have another I will post. Thank you!

  • Best Strategy?: Lion Upgrade, keeping SnowLeopard as well

    Intent:
I want to upgrade an older iMac (Intel) to Lion
    I  am running SnowLeopard.
I want to keep Snow Leopard for some apps. (Too many very expensive apps that may have issues on Lion).
Question: What's my best strategy to upgrade to Lion while keeping SnowLeopard on one iMac?
I've done this in the past, but am out of touch with best current practice.
I doubt its changed, but it never hurts to ask!
I'd wait for Mountain Lion, but I believe that won't be available until after MobileMe goes away. Don't know how it will run on a 2GHz Core 2 Duo.
I have limited room available on my iMac, in the past I'd run on a tower, but that's not the case today.
This is really about adding iCloud to MobileMe.
The iPad 3 has another acct - I don't want to lose the email addresses, etc which are part of MobileMe
& I don't think I can justify purch of a new machine before the changeover.
Sorry, if that's a bit of a complicated scenario. This could actually fit with MobileMe forum...

Thanks much. Sounds like the same situation as always - partition.
I have 2 partitions now, one as an NTFS partition to run Windows when I must, as a hard boot.
That one, I think requires reformatting the entire drive, but I should be able to slide another one
out of the current Snow Leopard partition as its HFS+, I think.
Or else have to clone it to an external drive before repartitioning... (not my favorite option).
My problem is that space issue.
I'm on an iMac as my main machine these days.

  • Best practice for R12 upgrade middle of the period

Does anyone know of where I can find an Oracle documented best practice on when to perform the 12.1.1 upgrade? We are considering if we can upgrade in the middle of a period or if we should wait until the period close.

Best practice is to read the name of a forum before you post into it.
This forum is titled: "Oracle Database General Questions."
My suspicion is your question relates to EBS.

In the Database Expert, bring up the Options dialog.  I think it's on the right click menu.  You can then enter a filter for the table name and owner using wildcards.  This will limit the number of tables presented and allow you to see the new view.
    Thanks, Blair

  • What is the "best" feature phone to upgrade?

I am due for my upgrade on my current phone (which I love most of the time) my LG EnV 3 which I have had for 2+ years. Upon learning that Verizon discontinued the EnV series I was really upset, especially since the only good phones left are smartphones. I am about to start my senior year at college and neither my parents nor I can afford a smartphone for this last year of my school. After school, if I get a consitant job I am planning on upgrading to an iPhone regardless of the >$800 I will have to shell out.
So my question is, for the next year or so (two years tops) should I buy the LG Cosmos or the LG Cosmos Touch? I really want a touch screen, but is it worth $50? Is the Cosmos even any good? I know the camera is awful, the keyboard is small, and no video capabilities? Also, does the Cosmos (not touch) let me use mp3 files as ringtones? I know the LG Octane is good, but I don't have $100 and it's probably not worth that much money. Or should I get the  Samsung SCH-u370, which is also $50 although I cannot find it on the Verizon website, but the bestbuy website.
Or should I just wait until Verizon comes out with new feature phones? The only probablem with my current phone is that it randomly turns off all the time consistantly, which is really annoying but has never been a major problem. Is Verizon even ever going to update it's feature phones? Or are poor college students going to have to resort to crappy phones or crappy service (not Verizon?).
    Thanks in advance!

Don't get a new phone until they offer better phones. I have the ENV3 and refuse to "downgrade" to a junk phone. There are no feature phones even close to the ENV3 though Verizon would like to say that the Octane is but from what I read and people I talk to the echo makes it not worth even getting stuck with for 2 years.
I just bought a new battery from ebay and will continue to just keep this phone or if I have to buy another phone from ebay before I get one of their stinking phones.
To: SuzyQ - longtime Verizon customer
Helping others get the most out of their phones!
I too am a longtime Verizon customer and was like you for years and years. I thought Verizon was tops until they have stopped caring for those of us who do not want nor can afford smart phones.  They have shown what they think of us who just want a good phone with the same features we had 2 years ago without a data plan. Now they want us to think that all that is out there is stinking junk phones when they offered better phones just in the recent past. Why do they think we are stupid?  Its all about the almighty dollar and not the customers.

  • What's the best graphics card without upgrading PSU?

I know the K430 JU has a wimpy 280 watt power supply. I don't want to go through hassle of replacing the PSU, due to I won't be able to have the front lights or the top speed shifter working.
However, I might be interested in getting a better graphics card. Considering the power supply, what's the best graphics card I could use that wouldn't make the system overheat?

Go here and enter your system details, followed by adding in a graphics card in the range you might like.
If the wattage is too high, keep decreasing the card specs until you get something that falls in the range of 200-240W.
After this, you must check the requirements of the card. Make sure that the +12V rail has enough amperage for your card. My 280W PSU has 18A on +12V.
It would be better if you upgrade the PSU to a good branded one, as it would be more hassle with a new video card that refused to run because of an inadequate power supply.Replacing the PSU is quite straightforward, and will save you a lot of problems in the long run.
The P9 connector is responsible for supplying power to the speedshifter. You could maybe find an adapter, but I'm not sure. By default, turbo is set to AUTO so you shouldn't notice any differences playing in game.

  • Best Practice for config upgrade

    Hi
Is there a best practice guide to follow to performing a network upgrade. So I am replacing a stack of 5 3750 switches and replacing with 2 stacks of 2 3750x switches, but then also introducing a 4500x vss pair aswell as the new core. Is there an easy migration process to migrate the config or do I have to understand what the current network is configured as and build a new config for the new topology.
Im new to this process so just wondering if I can find an easier way, Thanks

Is there an easy migration process to migrate the config or do I have to understand what the current network is configured as and build a new config for the new topology.
You really need to understand how the current network is configured before you can do the upgrade otherwise if something doesn't work you will have no idea of where to begin troubleshooting.
That doesn't mean you need to build an entirely new configuration because you may well be able to apply most of the configuration on your existing switches to the new switches although it's not clear what functions the new switches will be doing ie.
currently you have a stack of 3750s doing what ? eg. access for users, routing for vlans etc.
you are replacing them with 3750x's switches and 4500x switches so are you splitting up the functions of the 3750s between them.
If you are then obviously you cannot take the existing configuration and copy it to both the 3750x and the 4500x switches.
When I did upgrades like this I would download the existing configurations to my laptop and make any necessary edits. If I couldn't use the existing configuration I just created new ones. When I came to upgrade I had all the configurations ready to load onto the switches.
Bear in mind that some configuration just won't copy across ie. if you have QOS on your current switches and you try to copy that to the 4500x it probably wont work as they use different commands for a lot of the same functions.
But the key thing is you must understand what you are trying to do ie. simply trying to copy across configurations without the understanding could create a lot of problems.

  • What is best reccomended for my upgrade?

    Hi all,
I have just got my first mac off a friend. It is a Dual 1.8ghz PowerPC G5 System.
It currently has 4 sticks of DDR SDRAM and a GeForce FX5200 gfx card.
As I am kind of new to upgrading macs, can anyone suggest to me what I should upgrade this system to having?
Can I put DDR2 RAM into this system? Does the RAM on this system only go upto 4GB max?
What graphics card would be best for this system in order for me to do some video editing and grpahics work?
What airport card should I get? Does it have one already in there as there is a port to attach an antenna on the back of the machine?
What version of OSX can I go upto with this machine? its currently on 10.4, I'm guessing snow leopard wont work but would 10.5.8?
    Many Thanks!

Hi tetrasync, and a warm welcome to Macdom & the forums!

    Nope.

    Yep.

It may or may not have one, At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac.
Then click on More Info>Hardware, click on the little disclosure triangle beside it, highlight Airport, what does it say?
If it turns out not to have one, something like these might be a better/cheaper option...
