So many wireless questions in my move to australia--HELP

I'm moving to australia and I have many questions--please forgive the length of this. First I had been waiting for the Palm Centro to move to Verizon because my Tungsten E is dying. Now that I'm moving I'm going to need to buy a cell phone in Australia--versus trying to get an unlocked one here I think. I see that they have Centro, but not with the big server Vodafone, which leads me back to the iphone. I avoided it because I don't want to pay for all the services I don't need. All I want is the PDA to link with my iBook G4 (still with Panther) easily to have all my contacts from my Tungsten E. I hear Palm may even be discontinuing the PDA's all together so I really do need to make the move. Yet the other big PDA, the blackberry doesn't sync easily with the mac from what I hear and read. Anybody have suggestions about a good solid phone/pda that I can use in Australia with my iBookG4? Can I spend just $199 here on an Iphone bring it with me, hook it up there with Vodafone and just use it as a phone/pda without any of the internet features?
Second question is related to communication when I first land in Australia to my husband in LA. I was told that I could use my ibook at any airport with Skype. Is this true? How? I have airport for our wireless SBC modem here, but Im guessing I would need some special USB unit. but is that the way to go. I was thinking to buy an international Mobal phone for $50 just to have for the first few days until I get internet set up over there and can start trying to figure out skype? I suppose I could try a phone card from a payphone but $50 seems like a small price to pay for communication in the beginning...unless there is a brilliant idea I hadn't considered (hence my writing here)
I am really clueless here. any suggestions, websites, links I should consider would be very appreciated. More than I can say since there are a million other details about this move that are taking up space in my head.
thank you in advance.

Same thing happened to me and I did a reset twice but the problem doesn't go away. It's Apple's video player that has problems. You don't want to reset it every time it happens, right? Get another video player, any player will do. I got flex player for free. Now I don't have any problems playing my videos any more.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I find it hard to believe that this information isn't clearly available somewhere, but it isn't and I don't think I've seen anyone here who is 100% sure. However, I believe you can have up to 10 associated devices, which include authorised computers (of which you can have up to 5), I suspect the Apple TV might become a temporary associated device while it's in use, but I'm not entirely sure myself.

How many wireless devices can connect to an Express which is wired and extending an Extreme network?

That is great news I have A1392s. One more question...
If I have an Airport Extreme setup as a router and feeding internet from a modem/ I wire an express (A1392) and "create a wireless network" the airport utility puts the express into bridge mode automatically.
How many wireless clients can I connect simultaneously to the express?
How many wireless clients can I connect simultaneously to the extreme assuming I am using all 50 at the express?
In other words, Could I have 50 wireless clients connected to each device simultaneously giving me a total of 100 wireless clients?

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @redrebel40 ,
I read through your post about how you are wondering how many 4x6 photos you can print from a memory card with full ink cartridges. This is a very tricky question because it does depend on the quality/DPI of the photos. I am going to link you to some more information so you can read on ink yields and cartridge information. There is really no exact amount I can answer you with due to those factors that come in to play when printing photos or even documents.

How HP measures inkjet page yields
Select supplies for cartridge number '02' (This link  you can see the yield amount for the cartridge you are using)
I hope that offers you some help and gives you an idea about how much ink you will need.

  • Wireless Questions

    Hello,
I'm Brandon and I'm new here, and a new Mac user.
I've just purchased a MacBook and have never used wireless internet before, so I have a few questions I'd like to have answered before my new Mac arrives.
First, I know friends have brought computers to my house and been able to use wireless internet, even though we have no router. Does this mean it is likely that this will work for me too?
Second, we have broadband internet running into the family Vaio desktop, which runs God-awful XP MCE. The installation guy told us we would only be able to run one computer at a time. However, if I purchased an Airport Express I should be able to run both my lap top and the Vaio (supposedly wireless-enabled) simultaneously right?

    Welcome and congratulations.

There is probably an open wireless network nearby that they are able to connect to. You might be able to use this to connect to the internet, but this is not secure if you want to also share files and printers between your Mac and PC. You should set up your own wireless network, use password-protected encryption and stealth mode where the wireless network name is not even broadcast.
... we would only be able to run one computer at a time...
probably he means with that broadband modem, some modems feature a built-in router with ports for more than one computer. But you should be able to add your own router to the broadband modem to use multiple computers.

The Express can support up to 10 simultaneous wireless computers. This wireless hub has no wired Ethernet ports, (are you sure the VAIO is wireless enabled?) The Extreme can support up to 50 clients and has 3 wired Ethernet ports just in case a visitor has an older laptop without wireless or you need a wired port for an older computer.
They both will work with Mac and PC and you should be able to set up file sharing and printer sharing.

You might need to install Bonjour for Windows on the VAIO.

The MacBook also can share it's internet connection over the wifi network to a computer hooked up to its wired Ethernet port, or vice versa... so you could potentially hook up both computers to the internet right away using that built-in internet sharing feature before you get a wireless hub, which would be useful to have when you have a visitor and need more connections. I'm not sure how many wireless clients can hook to the MacBook shared network when it is using the wired Ethernet as the primary connection.

  • Wireless drops on the move of my MacBook Pro 15

My MacBook Pro 15 (Early 2011, Lion 10.7.3) keeps dropping the wireless connection when I move the computer around the house. There are no issues on the wireless router capacity cause i can still use it from outside the apartment, but it immediately disconnect when I move a couple of meters. What is happening? What can I do?

I have the same issue with my MacBook Pro with Lion OS, when moving from one office to the next.  This is why we use MacBooks, so that we can be mobile between meetings etc.
It's extremely frustrating, as if you're downloading items, you cannot move until the download is complete as most times, you need to re-start the download from scratch.  This is impractical, and it would be even more impractical to put the MBP to sleep prior to moving between offices.

  • I am getting a lot of static when using Brookstone wireless headphones and watching movies on the Apple TV. I know it is not headphones, because they work fine when I switch it to cable TV, then the sound is clear with no static. Any suggestions?

I am getting a lot of static when using Brookstone wireless headphones and watching movies on the Apple TV. I know it is not headphones, because they work fine when I switch it to cable TV, then the sound is clear with no static. Any suggestions? Which wireless headphones work best with the apple TV?

Ok so I've been doing more testing. It's all videos on the iTunes store. Anytime I try to download a podcast or stream it or anything it's super slow. To download an episode of Diggnation it tells me over 2 hours to download but the time keeps climbing and I just stop the transfer.
Some people said it's an Open DNS thing? Maybe it is but it's not computer specific and I couldn't find a way to change the DNS settings in my Airport, only on each computer. I tried deleting PLists and restoring my Apple TV and restoring my Airport and nothing is working.
I don't know if it an issue with me, my ISP or Apple. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

  • HT201303 Why we should set those security questions while buying movies?

Why we should set those security questions while buying movies?
Can we skip those personal questions?
Why can't we make our own ones?
This makes me feel uncomfortible because I am forced to do that.

    Thanks HACKINT0SH.
Any chance to make our own questions? Per-defined questions may not always link to personal background well and in that case people will easily forget those answers.
If the answer is no, anyway to pass the feedback to Apple and tell them not to do secure but stupid things?

  • How many GB is an average movie?

I'm trying to decide which iPad to get; how many GB is the average movie. If I watch occasional movies, and have half a dozen books and some--not a huge amount--of music on it, what size do I need?

how many GB is the average movie.
This basically depends on how you encode your own content or what you normally buy. My content tends to range from 500-800 MBs for original 5th Generation iPod files to 8.24 GBs for an HD encoding of Avatar for playback comparisons on different devices/monitors. Basically, it is just a tradeoff between quality and quantity for most people. My advice, is to always buy the highest capacity device you can afford. In most cases you will find it still wont be enough by the time you are ready to upgrade to a newer device.

  • How many wireless devices can be connected at once to an airport extreme?

How many wireless devices can be connected to an airport extreem at one time? I have 4 iphones and 2 ipads, a goolge chrome and 4 wired devices.

Any AirPort Extreme produced since 2008 will support up to 50 wireless devices and 150+ wired devices simultaneously, so this should accommodate most users in most homes.

  • Ipad 2 - 30gb and running out of space, but i don't have that many movies - can anyone help

ipad 2 - 30gb and running out of space, but i don't have that many movies - can anyone help?  How do i find a directory of files that I can manage (PC user)?
    thanks!

You might have to do some experimenting from iTunes on your computer.
Several months back, I had a phantom 5G of video.  I unchecked ALL video files and synced the iPad and the 5G was still there.  I was able to delete the 5G and bring it back by repeatedly unchecking and checking the "Sync Movies" box.
A "Restore" solved my problem.  Be forewarned that it's not quick:
Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

  • Satellite M70-340: Question about warranty if I buy in Russia and move to Australia

I'd like to buy notebook Satellite M70-340 here in Russia. Next month I'm going to move to Australia. What about the warranty in this case?
Will I have to pay if some trouble occurs?
How can I recognise a laptop which is officially sold (= i mean legally delivered and has a worldwide warranty)?
Thanx a lot for your answer!

    Hi
I dont know what you mean with officially sold and I hope you will buy notebook in PC store and not on the street. As far as I know every new notebook has one year international warranty but if you will stay longer you can buy warranty extension. It must be buying by authorized service partner in your country.
If you have troubles in Australia go to service partner and they will check if the unit is stolen or official soled. After that it can be repaired. As I said, contact Authorized Toshiba service partner in Russia and ask for warranty extension.

    Hi KRKabutoZero,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You may want to look at Knowledge Base Document #58042 on A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac.
Do you have access to another Mac? You may want to backing up your files via Target Disk Mode (TDM) as well as running some utilities (Knowledge Base Document #58583 on How to use FireWire target disk mode.
You may want to invest in a utility like DiskWarrior from Alsoft. It is great for troubleshooting drive malfunctions.
As said before, you may also want to bring your iBook to your local Apple Store/Reseller.

  • How do i delete an old iCloud account from phone when I forget my password and I'm not able to reset it because my security questions do not match?! Help!! Currently not able to update any apps or icloud info

How do i delete an old iCloud account from phone when I forget my password and I'm not able to reset it because my security questions do not match?! Help!! Currently not able to update any apps or icloud info...

If your device is signed into an old ID of yours that is an earlier version of the ID you want to sign in with, do the following:
If you are using iMessage and FaceTime, make sure you are signed into these services with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless you are using iCloud Photo Library).  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).
