SO8 Export to PDF error

Hi,
I've tried to export some slides from Impress to PDF. One of the slides contains an image in png format. One element of this image appears mirrored in the PDF file. The other slides are ok and all the other elements in the affected slide are also ok, including the rest of the image.
I can post the slide with the problem if someone wants to try to reproduce the effect...
Has anyone else experienced this effect?
BR
Christian

Hi Lars,
thanks for your reply.
Attached you can find the file causing the problem. To reproduce the problem simply export the file to PDF, with lossless compression enabled.
OS used is Win XP Pro with SP2.

Christian

  • Printing error and Export to PDF error after a Quark Express convert

    I are working on a catalogue that was previously made with Quark Express. I used q2id to convert over to InDesign CS3. I had some minor issues setting up the new fonts, but that was no big deal. Now that the catalogue is close to finished, I want to do some test print, however, on several of the files it start processing the printing, finish the processing of all the pages, then kills the print job and comes with the following error:
    Print Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem.
    Similar error happens when I try to export to PDF, this error only says:
    Failed to Export PFD file
    Anyone had a similar problem?? I've done a preflight but ID does not indicate any problems with the file nor its content. Is there another tool to scan the file with to find errors?? Possible fix it?? Is there a log file I could check??
    In advance, thanks guys.
    Working on:
    InDesign CS3
    Windows XP Pro, SP02
    2 GB RAM

    Thanks Ken,
    Not sure how to check if we do have OPI comments on some of the images, but looks like I have found a solution to the printing problem at least.
    Thanks to a respons by Peter Spier to another topic with similar problems:
    Peter Spier - 4:00am Mar 11, 08 PST (#5 of 6)
    The symptoms could describe document corruption rather than network issues which might fall into the category of things that can be cleared up through export to .inx.
    Try exporting one or two of the problem files to interchange format, open those and save as new .indd and make a new book file. See if that behaves differently across the network.
    I also found another article about INX files, that confirms this technique:
    http://avondale.typepad.com/indesignupdate/2005/08/what_the_heck_i.html
    "...INX can also help “clean up” problem files in InDesign CS2—if you’re running into problems, especially with files that started their lives as QuarkXPress or PageMaker files, try exporting the document as INX and then opening that file."
    So, I
    1. exported all files, one by one to INX or InDesign InterChanged
    2. Then reopened those files, saved back as regular .indd files
    3. Reopend the new file (hoping for a refreshed file and test to see if it would open without problems.)
    4. Then packed the files indevidually and reopend the new packed files when done.
    Alle the files now print without any problems but export to PDF still fails with the same error message.
    Would the OPI comment be a problem here maybe?
    Thanks!

  • Export to PDF Error

    My FHMX has suddenly developed an aversion to exporting to
    PDF! The problem seems to just be restricted to large-dimension
    documents - though I can't say that I recall having this problem in
    the past. I have a 48x36" document, and when exporting get the
    following error message "An error occured while exporting a PDF.
    The PDF file may not be valid." Sure enough, it won't open in
    Reader. I did some research an noticed a limitation on the
    dimensions of a document that FHMX can export, so I changed the
    dimensions of my document to be less than 45". This has not
    resolved the problem. As noted earlier, I know that I was able to
    export the original, larger document in the past... so I am unsure
    of why this error is cropping up now.
    Any suggestions for a work around? Do the PDF export settings
    need to be configured a very specific way? Any suggestions would be
    greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Read through this technote:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_13496
    ---quote---
    When exporting PDF files from FreeHand, users should be
    aware that:
    - Alpha channel transparency will be lost.
    - Placed EPS, PICT and DCS files will not be exported.
    - Custom, textured and PostScript fills and strokes are not
    supported.
    - PostScript-generated screens (halftone, line, etc.) applied
    to bitmap
    graphics will be ignored.
    - The PDF format is limited to a maximum page size of roughly
    45 inches by
    45 inches. PDF will ignore anything outside of this boundary,
    cropping
    whatever is taller or wider than 45 inches.
    - All text effects will be ignored, except inline graphics.
    - All overprinting effects will be ignored.
    Given the limitations of the software you have, here are a
    few things you
    could try.
    1. In case the dimensions of the PDF are the problem, you
    could try reducing
    the entire page plus artwork by 50% and then export as PDF.
    Instruct anyone
    printing it to enlarge the print output 200%.
    2. Take the FH file into Illustrator and create the PDF from
    there.
    Generally Illustrator does a better job of opening FH files
    than FH does of
    exporting to Illustrator. From FH, export back to a FH
    version that AI can
    open. (Check your AI documentation for the versions of FH
    that it can open.)
    Then open the early-version FH file in Illustrator and see if
    Illustrator's
    PDF options will create a PDF that works.
    3. If that doesn't work, from FH, export the FH document to a
    version of
    Illustrator at or below the version you have. Open in
    Illustrator and see if
    the PDF options will create a PDF that works.

  • Export to PDF error with embedded font

    Hello,
    i have added a Barcode font to a report and it is failing to export to PDF now saying it that the "font is not allowed to be embedded in document".  i have tried with two different Barcode fonts A39W and C39W and both fail.
    I have looked at forums which suggested downloading patches and updating the registry key ForceLargerFonts to 1, however this has not worked in either V9, V10 or V11.
    Can anyone help??
    Many thanks,
    Hugh

    Hi there,
    I'm experiencing the same problem, except with the
    Frutiger 45 Light font. When I try to export the report from Crystal Preview to PDF I get the error,
    ++++++++++
    Failed to export the report.
    Frutiger 45 Light - Font is not allowed to be embedded in document.
    +++++++++++
    I'm using CR Developer, Full, version 11.0.0.1282
    I've checked in Windows XP and can see the font (a ttf) present with the other fonts installed on my PC in the Fonts folder accessed via the Control Panel in Windows. I can right-click on the font Frutiger 45 Light and see the Properties page for the Font. For all the Groups/Users I can see all the Permissions enabled except for Special Permissions.
    I dont know what you mean by getting the security changed from the supplier of the font to allow embedding into the PDF?
    My colleague was able to perform the same export from Crystal to PDF on his laptop, but it was an older laptop. So there must be a difference between the way our laptops are configured that is causing the problem. The version of CR is the same on both laptops the only obvious difference we can see is that the older laptop has Adobe version 6 installed and the new laptop has Adobe version 7, both machines have Distiller installed. He's now got an upgraded laptop and is getting the same error as I am.
    Any help here would be much appreciated.

    Robert.

  • Export to PDF Error in CR Viewer

    I have an intermittent problem exporting to PDF from the Crystal Reports Viewer. I'm using the Java Runtime and the report displays fine in the view. I then click the Export button, select PDF, and click Export. The view screen becomes blank with the single word "Error".
    I see nothing in the Crystal Logs.
    The timeout in CRConfig.xml is set to 1 minute and JavaServerTimeOut is set to 300. No other values are specified.
    Any ideas of what the problem could be or additional tests to try?

    Hi,
    I had faced this issue previously.
    This basically happens because your session is expiring in the web server. Try to increase the timeout session to 30 minutes and the print option will work just fine.
    Also you would have noticed that the data does not gets refreshed from the source if you are not ending the session. But for this you can enable the refresh button on the Web Viewer using the following option:
    CrystalReportViewer crystalReportPageViewer = new CrystalReportViewer();
    crystalReportPageViewer.setHasRefreshButton(true);
    Once the refresh option has been enabled then there is no need to kill any session in order to refresh the report the refresh button can only be clicked for that .
    Please let me know in case the issue has been resolved.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • SSRS export to PDF errors out with one specific data set

    I have a SSRS report that fails to export to a PDF file with a particular set of data.  The PDF export works great with every other set of data  that we have run through it. The suspect report/data can be viewed fine and exported to other formats
    without issues.
    It almost appears that the PDF export has issues with how the data falls on the page.  If I change the top/bottom margin size, increase the length of the report by adding whitespace or increase/decrease the size of the header/footer, the report will
    export to PDF without any issues.
    We are currently using SQL Server 2008, SP3 CU12.
    This is the error log that occurs for the export:

    Hi GravityJunky,
    Based on the error message, the object reference is not set to an instance, it is typically caused by one or more of the following reasons:
    There are soft page breaks within empty lists in the report.
    There are hidden groups within the report and you tried to export it to PDF.
    There are text boxes with a width and/or height of zero in the report.
    A text box is either hidden or the NoRows property is set to true.
    A text box spans table cells where some cells have a collection of null values.
    The report has static columns and/or rows and, in the Visibility properties, Hidden is set to true.
    The report has static columns and/or rows and there are grand totals in the report.
    The report has static column headings and, in the Visibility properties, Hidden is set to true.
    The matrix report has multiple columns and rows and, in the Visibility properties, Hidden is set to true and you tried to export to PDF.
    To troubleshoot the problem, please refer to the following steps:
    Review the specific error contained within the message and then, depending on the message, review your report.
    If the problem is related to soft page break issues, try increasing the page height, reducing the first row height, or reducing the number of header rows.
    If the problem is related to errors when rounding the image size up or down, try slightly increasing the page header height so that it is different than the image height, or try changing the image size to fit better.
    If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Export to PDF errors in CS5 ME version

    Dear All,
    Our agency has upgraded all our machines to CS5 ME version.
    We are facing a major problem when exporting to PDF from InDesign CS5 - ME
    Its a random problem but basically we have a standard footer set up on the master page and then have applied our design,
    In InDesign it all looks fine and is correct...we even can print from InDesign and everything is fine.....however when we export to PDF as spreads or single pages elements of the master page do not reproduce on all pages of the PDF document or if the do they move..
    The problem seems to be random as we have used the same master document to paginate many sections of the document and on some sections its ok and other not...
    The document has to go to print in 2 days via PDF to printer so can do with some help on this.
    Many thanks
    Richard

    Hi,
    Thanks for this we have had jumping and we have also had disappearing
    altogether...and its not limited to just the logo now on the odd occasion,
    the other symbols N , O , S , A at the bottom of the page disappear
    also...bloody frustrating...strangely it always seems to be on a right hand
    page...which leads me to think its something to do with the Middle East
    version only....are you working on the ME version?
    The only way we can get around this is to take off master page and then
    paste in place on every single page...kind of makes the whole concept of
    master pages redundant...

  • Export of PDF errors after the PDF generates on the server (File I/O error)

    We have Crystal 9 reports engine, developed with VS2003, which is being called from a VS2008 web app on a 32-bit server. The reports have been working okay, unless the file is of size > 600K. Then, right after the PDF is created in the C:\Windows\Temp, the export fails to display it on the screen, throwing the following error:
    Error in File C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\temp_c2e5676e-7d48-413e-9dca-fd2615f236c6.rpt: File I/O error.
    at [1].[1]D(Int16   , Int32   ) at CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.FormatEngine.Export(ExportRequestContext reqContext) at CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.FormatEngine.Export() at CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument.Export() at commisionstatement.CommissionStatementPDF.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.EventHandler.Invoke(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain()
    The issue is quite frustrating as it doesn't indicate what the cause of it is. It is not clear whether this is a timeout issue and what Timeout setting applies. The report objects have a default CacheTimeOut set as CachedReportConstants.DEFAULT_TIMEOUT. How long is this? is there any other setting on the server that can overwrite this timeout? What does the Export method need in order to find and pull the file on time?
    Note that the report generates on the server and if it's not too big, will display on the Client's browser.
    Your help will be greately appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Sonya

    Hi David,
    So we were finally able to test with the increased timeout, which we set to 5 min:
    <httpRuntime
                executionTimeout="300"
                maxRequestLength="4096"
                useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="false"
                minFreeThreads="8"
                minLocalRequestFreeThreads="4"
                appRequestQueueLimit="100"
                enableVersionHeader="true"
            />
    Unfortunately, now we started getting other errors, related to the limit of the licenses:
    A Crystal Reports job failed because a free license could not be obtained in the time allocated. More licenses can be purchased direct from Crystal Decisions or through the Crystal Decisions Online Store.
    According to page 8 of the article below, we should be able to purchase more such licenses free of cost:

    Could you let us know how to proceed in order to obtain the licenses?
    Thank you,

    Hi to all,
    I have a major problem while exporting pdf files at runtime
    Using VB 6.0 and Crystal Reports 8.5, I am able to generate the required report.
    While exporting to the pdf, I need to save the files without any user interaction.

  • Exporting a PDF error

    I have a wireframe that I'm trying to export to a PDF.  Was working fine last week but I made a few minor changes this morning and now when I try to export it says "Could not complete your request.  A parameter was incorrect."  I have tried checking for hotspots without a link, closing all other programs and restarting the computer.

    If there was a link missing on a hotspot, would it cause this to happen?  Very frustrated, I find a link missing, put it in and then it seems to drop out again.  Is there any simple way to check all the links in the file to see if any are empty?

  • CRVS2010 SP1 - Export to PDF error

    Hi everybody.
    I have this problem with Crystal Report Runtime for Visual studio (with SP1 and without it).
    In a report I have some grouping.
    If I export the report from IDE (Crystal Report 2008), then the PDF generated is correct.
    I have a .NET program that "merge" the rpt file and the xml (datasource) for create a PDF with ReportDocument.ExportToDisk(...).
    If I use the CR2008 runtime, this application works good (the PDF is the same that the IDE create).
    If I use the CRVS2010 SP1, the same application create a PDF without some data in the second page (I lost the first 9 rows).
    If someone can tell me how to do, I can attach the rpt file and the xml data source. So you can reproduce the problem.

    What do you mean with "open it with CR2008 designer"?
    Right click on the RPT data and open it with CR2008? There is something different if I open it with Notepad?
    If you would like to be sure if Crystal Report finds all data, I checked it with the PDF.
    The report misses the first 9 rows of the second page, but the TOTAL at the end of the report is correct (so CR has all the data).
    If you would like to check something different, I will retry to export it to RPT and do the test you asked (it is a little bit difficult to do, I have to uninstall CRVS2010, install CR2008 and then re-import all the DLL in the project...)
    Thank you in advance

    Did you get Perry's message in that other Forum post yesterday asking you to share your form so he could start looking into it with you?  One of us can work with you on this.  We really need more information to help you.
    Please fill either Perry or I in with:
    The steps you are trying - what are you exporting?
    What do you mean by a locally saved PDF?
    Is the "Export" from FormsCentral or from the PDF?
    Operating system of your computer
    If you are working in a web browser
    Which browser?
    Have you ensured you have the latest version of Flash Player? get.adobe.com/flash/
    Are you using the "Desktop application" of FormsCentral included with Acrobat Pro XI?  (IE: you are not in a web browser, but a FormsCentral application)
    Have you used Acrobat and is it registered and working properly?
    What version is Acrobat, launch Acrobat and click (Help -> About)
    What version is the FormsCentral Desktop application, launch FormsCentral Desktop and click (Help -> About)
    Are you signed into the FormsCentral Desktop application?
    If you are signed in, does your form have just two "Tabs" when you open it or does it have several (Design, Test, Options, Distribute, Summary Report and View Responses)
    What is the environment you are working in, are you working inside of a company with an IT department?
    Feel free to share your form with either of us so we can see if it is possibly an issue with the form, my email is [email protected] and Perry provided his in the other thread.
