Software for finding "dupe" photos

My hard drive crashed on my Power Book but I was able to save over 21000 photos, by sending it to a company that pulled them off the bad drive. I have them in in 19 different folders of about 1000 each (plus or minus a few). Many of these photos are dupes many times over due to thumbnails and such. All the photos now have the same date of Dec 21, 2008 on them. What I would like to do is locate software that can scan the photos and list which photos are dupes. I seen the same photos many different times but they all had a different "JPG" name/number and are different in size from 4K to 1.25meg. Is there any software out there that can scan photos and put the dupes together? Thanks for any suggestion.. and yes I know that I should have backed up LOL

  • Any recommendations for a recovery software for my lost photos on my external drive?

Would like recommendations for a reputable recovery software for my lost photos from my external drive that I used with my MacBook Pro.

    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Can anyone recommend some software for creating HDR photos?

I would like to try to create some HDR images but this requires software to merge the bracketed shots into one. Could anyone recommend an application that will do this? Also, any online tutorials or training resources would be useful.
    thanks

When you ask about software for creating HDR photos? a big question is whether you want special-effects-like imagery HDR or whether you want to realistically simply improve dynamic range of otherwise well-shot images.
The best way to improve the dynamic range of otherwise well-shot images is to buy a Nikon D3. For those without the $5k for a D3, Photoshop layers are an excellent solution. You make duplicate lightening screen or darkening multiply layers and erase and adjust opacity of various layer parts to achieve what you want.
Photomatrix is probably the most popular for special-effects-like HDR imagery. There is a good thread among Photoshop pros discussing HDR, with examples, at

  • Zen touch - software for finding duplicates in libr

After buying my player and putting 800 tracks on there so far I have found that I have a lot of duplicates of songs. Some are ones I want (album version v li've version of songs) but sometimes I have exactly the same recording a few times. I mean who wants 4 versions of Dead Ringer for Love? (some people don't want <EM>one</EM> version of that!). I suppose this has mainly happened due to loading compilations on the player but now I need to find some effecti've software to help me find duplicates.
I can use Mediasource and just sort by the song title and then manually check for the duplicates but I was hoping someone can advise a better way.

Itunes is the worst prog ever!.. I used it to transfer some songs to my dad`s ipod, but it took so long time. Snd to just import music to the the library took 9 hours!!!! And you cant even drag and drop music files.
And a friend of mine who got the ipod mini bought the redchair software. because itunes was so terrible.
The creative mediasource is much better.. go on Creative!!Message Edited by ut_king on 02-09-2005 :47 PM

  • Tip for Finding Lost Photos from iPhoto

Wow, what a surprise.  After rebuilding my library and still not finding my lost photos, I installed Picasa for Mac, and voila, it found every photo on my hard drive I'd ever done and in warp speed!  I couldn't believe it, I had just about given up!  It was easy then to transfer them to iPhoto which I am much more familiar with for editing and emailing.

    Bonnie,
thanks for your answer here about picasa which I have downloaded and watching all my images flash by.  And I think I am through with iphoto.  The hours I have spent every time it decides not to open and even all the hints here about rebuilding etc.  nothing was useful or it was for one or two times.  I'll just have to get used to picasa.  I am sure the time will be better spent there than hours lost like today.  I wanted to add pictures to a pages document only to find iphoto library empty and the one I had copied stopped at 2010.  I am a photographer so you know I've done lots since 2010.  You are a lifesaver.  Much gratitude for you.

  • Photo software for large collection

Since upgrading to Yosemite I have experienced a few problem.  firstly 50% of my events lost their date and location details and i phone was very slow to load and close.  I took my i mac into the Apple store for their opinion, they could couldn't help with the lost of date or location info but suggested I was short on Ram with onlt 4gb. I have now increased to ram to 12gb but with no improvement to the i photo slowness??.
I understand that I may be better using other software for my 30000 photo's 82G photo library! can anyone offer any advise on which software would be best to use
    Thank you

There are several things in the thread that may be of use:
    does iPhoto photo limit?

  • Find duplicated photos and Delete them.

How can I get the "duplicated photos" menu for finding duplicated photos and deleting the in Photos for Mac?

    Yes, there is.
But I can not access it.

  • How to find all photos that have NO faces, as opposed to UNNAMED faces?

I find that iPhoto often misses faces entirely, especially if the face is wearing sunglasses or a hat or both.  Sometimes it is rather inexplicable that it has missed a face, as the face seems obvious.
If you use the smart album method to find all "unnamed" faces, the photos have at least one unnamed face identified.  You can then add any missed faces to those photos.
But what about photos in which iPhoto has failed to identify the existence of even one face?  Or for that matter, if I want to see only pictures of landscapes or objects that have no people?  Does anyone have a method for finding all photos that have no faces in them at all?
For me, the idea is to find all unidentified faces and add them.  But as I pointed out above, there may be other uses for this.
    Any ideas, anyone?
    Thanks

Awesome !!! Thank you very much. I did not realize you could use JavaScript to code against iTunes ...
I don't know if you have written any of these yourself, but do you know how to maybe create a smart playlist with this information via script? If not, no big deal. At least I know have something which I can use, I will just have to run it every so often.
Thanks again for pointing me to that site!

  • Photo Gallery Software for Mac OS X Server

I'm porting my Linux server infrastructure over to Mac OS X Server. I've successfully moved over my DNS, Mail and most of my web sites to Mac without a problem. However, the last website is causing me a bit of pain. In Linux I was using Gallery 2 (http://gallery.menalto.com/), but I'm not sure how to get this to work on Mac OS X. In particular there are a bunch of dependencies that I'm not sure exist in Mac (ffmpeg, etc.)
    * Is there an alternative photo gallery software that people use which may install/work better on the Mac? We have wiki and blog services in the Web Server Admin pane, but I don't see a photo gallery service.
    * Has anybody had success in using gallery2 over to the Mac? What dependencies were needed and how did you find them?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi
For me it has to be RumpusFTP Server:
    http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/
It has a secure web interface - no need to open ports 20, 21. No need for dedicated FTP client software for uploading and downloading. Supports the most commonly used browsers. Multi-platform support and can be installed on a standard client OS.

Actually your suggestions are the ones that i have tried. i have seen that you have tried to help others with this issue and the only one that i could find that said they found the problem said that it was an ilife update issue and it fixed it and i have no available updates. i know it has to do with something in photo stream because it happens when i create a new library and it is loading the photos but i get the message before i reach the maximum 1000 photos. so i've tried updating, new library(first backing up photos and then deleting them from iPhoto), reinstalling OSX many times, running disc utilities. I called Apple the first day i had this issue and i was the first person to call them for support with the retina display and i actually had it escalated to a senior advisor and we thought we fixed the problem but we did not. i am pretty fluent in dealing with troubleshooting these type of issues and this is the first time i'm reaching out to the community. i figured now that the retina has been out some time now that there would be an obvious answer to this issue. thanks for the quick reply.

  • What is the best software for burning a large slideshow with 500 photos and music to DVD?

What is the best software for burning a large slideshow with 500 photos and music to DVD?

Are you talking about strictly burning an already put-together slideshow or composing one and then burning it?
My all time favorite slide show maker is Photo to Movie; you can then burn it from there or get it into iMovie and/or iDVD for the "finishing" touch. My favorite burn software is Toast, although you can use iMovie, iDVD, and Finder as well.

  • Free photo editing software for Macs & PCs?

    Hi folks!
I am looking for a free photo editing software to use for an upcoming class. I have a MacBook at home, but I will be teaching in a classroom equipped with PCs. I was hoping to find a free software that students could practice on in class and then download free for use at home afterward.
Have been trying to download Gimp 2.8.2, but I can't get it to install on my Mac OS 10.6.8 - It downloads but will not start.
Please let me know any suggestions.
    Thanks in advance!

i guess i want something where you can directly play with the images...cut out a section of the picture.....replace it with something else (like add icon/pictures over top of it)
also, the ability to paint colors over the picture and alter them in other ways, not just image quality or resizing it...
if there are no free programs for this, what are some cheap ones?
i looked at the programs that have been posted alreaedy, and i don't think that they are really what im looking for...
    thank you!

  • Looking for advice on photo software

I am a recent 'switcher'. After using a PC for almost 25 years, I recently bought an iMac and couldn't be happier with the switch.
Here's my problem: I currently have about 2,000 photos on my iMac and iPhoto has been awesome up until now for handling my photo needs. However, my family has recently gathered ALL of our old family photos and are passing them from one relative to another to copy, make prints or whatever they want to do. I plan on scanning most of them into my iMac. I realize that I'm going to have more photos than iPhoto is made to handle and I'm looking for Mac software capable of organizing these photos.
For background, I own a Canon PowerShot 75 (point-and-shoot) digital camera and usually only take pictures while on vacation or at family gatherings. I am NOT a power user in photography. I rarely edit photos. I NEVER use RAW format and probably never will. Basically, I'm just looking for Mac-capable software capable of organizing and letting me find photos out of thousands of photos. I am willing to buy whatever I need but don't know which way to go. I've looked at Aperture and don't know if it's what I need or not. Something else?

Is that more than 250,000 photos? Because that's what iPhoto's made to manage. And once you hit that you still have the possibility of additional libraries.
    All of this:
I own a Canon PowerShot 75 (point-and-shoot) digital camera and usually only take pictures while on vacation or at family gatherings. I am NOT a power user in photography. I rarely edit photos. points me to recommend iPhoto. Aperture is geared to RAW shooters.
For a point of reference: I have 22k photos in my main library, and I can find any I need in seconds. The key is using Keywords:
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums exensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 20k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
Keywording takes time to set up, there's no doubt about it. I use Keyword Manager as it's much more powerful than the inbuilt system, and adds the possibility of nested keywords. So, for instance, if I add John to a photo it also adds 'Family'. Now I can add many keywords to a pic quickly.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • After iPhone connects to iTunes, can not find the photos tab for sync

After iPhone connects to iTunes, can not find the photos tab for sync. Thus, I can not copy some phototes from my Macbook to iPhone, But my iTouch can do this. I don't know why.

If you are using a mac, you use iphoto.
If you are on windows, you use whatever camera software windows uses.
    Itunes does not import photos.

  • Photo corrupted, repair software for MacBook Pro?

I have transferred photos from an old PC to a MacBook Pro.  I noticed in the PC some of the photos are corrupted which ends up the same on my Mac after I transferred them.  They are photos for a large family book that I am working on.
I need to know if there is (preferably free) software to repair/restore photos for a Mac?
Any thoughts are appreciated before I back up my Mac pictures/files on an external hard-drive.  I don't want to lose any of the photos.
    Thanks!

    Linc Davis wrote:
Do not waste money on Disk Warrior. First of all, it doesn't fix corrupt files at all, ever. It recovers damaged volume directories. Second, if you have adequate backups, you'll never need to recover a damaged directory, so you'll never need Disk Warrior. In this situation, it will do you no good at all. Your only hope is to restore the damaged files from a backup. If you don't have one, there's nothing to do. You will inevitably lose all data that isn't backed up, sooner or later.
Linc, Cannot argue with that at all.
I have an enormous number of support calls where Disk Warrior resolved or even saved a corrupted drive or RAID. Almost always this is necessitated only because there were insufficient backups in place. And Linc is absolutely correct, DW does not do anything except repair and modify directories. I have owned Disk Warrior for 10 years or more and have not used it for more years than I can remember. I maintain backups of everything and always find it easier to revert to a backup than to attempt repairs of a problem RAID/drive/directory/set of files.
In your case, I would not rule it out if you owned it, but would not spend money on it now. If you cannot go to the source PC and try to recover these files, then your copying corrupted file to a different operating system has negligible chance of repairing them.
