[Solaris 10] Installation problem on nForce4 Ultra - SATA II - raid 0

hi,
Like I was read on HW web page, Solaris 10 should work fine with 'nForce4' (without 'Ultra'),
but on mine mainboard (nForce4 Ultra) instalator was unable to found my array.
I have ASUS A8N-E (nForce4 Ultra) with 2x 250GB Seagate on SATA II RAID 0.
Is it posible to install this OS on 'nForce4 Ultra' or maybe I am doing sth wrong ?

Hi, I have the similiar problems on Solaris 10 installation.
I have a Compaq SR1710 AMD Sempron™ + 1GB RAM. I am trying make it a mini workstation.
However, the installation was never able to throught.
It always stop or freeze on the "dos" screen after I select "interactive" installation.
The last error message I got was something "Skipped rtls01" something.
I am trying to install Solaris 9 now, so far on disc 2.
Very smooth. No problem..
hope someone can give me advise on how to install version 10 on the machine.
BTW, I checked teh HCL. It seems ok, given my machine is very basic.

  • Solaris 8 installation problem on an Intel base PC

I'm quite new with Solaris. I got stuck in Solaris 8 installation just at almost the very beginning. After booting up the system from floppy and conituing pressing F2 and selecting booting from CD, I got an error message like:
    cannot mount on pci@0; 0/pci-ide@7; 1/ide01/sd@0; 0:a
    panic[cpu0]thread=FEC17440 vfs:mountroot
then, the system reboots itself again and again every time it reaches this point. I guess it's a problem with my CD-ROM. But the problem persists even if I change CD-ROM or move CD-ROM from secondary master to primary slave, etc. I also tried to change harddisk, but did no good to the problem. Is there any experienced users who could provide me with some solutions?
I'm using a system with: Pentium 133, 32 MB Ram, 4GB HDD, 3C905TX, ATI Rage II PCI, Matshita CR-587 CD-ROM, Serial mouse and so on. I also tried another system with: P III 450, Asus P3BF, 192MB Ram, Pioneer DVD-ROM, same HDD, and so on. The problem was still there with the latter system. However, I successfully installed Solaris 7 with the latter system before. Why can't it work with Solaris 8?
Thanks a lot for the help.

I've been having the exact same problems on a PowerEdge 500SC. I have managed to get Solaris up and running on the machine, however. I booted the DCA from the floppy disk and installed from the CD-ROM. When the DCA is ready to scan for devices I use the "Specific Scan" option to tell it to look for specific devices. I tell it to scan for all devices in the listing and in doing so the DCA finds ISA-based IDE controllers. After it provides a listing of the devices it found I use the "Device Tasks" option and the "View/Edit Devices" menu item then delete the Bus Mastering IDE controller device. Once the screen comes up to ask for a boot device, the drives will show up as on the ISA controllers.
I have to go through this process every time I boot the machine but I am able to make the system run at least.
I haven't figured out the ACPI problem, yet.

  • Solaris 10 Installation Problems

I recently tried (several times) to install Solaris 10 on an x86_64 AMD machine with a SATA hard drive, but I kept running into problems. When using the boot DVD, it booted a temporary desktop, and asked me several questions. At the end it asked if I wanted to install from a CD/DVD or somewhere else. I clicked CD/DVD and clicked continue, and it said "Unable to read from disk, please ensure your disk drives are powered up" or something similar. From there, I am unable to eject the CDROM, and if I click Cancel it brings up the terminal - but I can't figure out how to reinitiate the installation from there.
Any ideas why it keeps doing this? I really want to use Solaris but I can't even get it installed!
    Thanks.

I think that there might be two main reasons:
    1. Your computer is not supported
    2. Hard drive may need to be formated to FAT32 or UFS

    - After this screen, I tried selecting various resolutions, but no matter, I get a blank screen in place of the graphical installation wizard after quitting kdmconfig.
As a result, I am never given a chance to install solaris at all. Can anyone you please dig me out of this hole?

1.When i tried to boot from Installation cd , I've a message saying : no disks that meet the criteria in the Solaris installer documentation found !! (but the disk is present when i do a format cmd and i don't know which criterias are needed ?
2.When i tried to boot on software cd 1 , i can load the software on the disk, but after that, the installer ask me to put the diskette labeled CPQNCR26350 in the diskette drive .
I put the diskette in the drive (the previously used diskette i use to update drivers at first screen) but the program said : driver cpqncr not on diskette ??
    I'm sure it's the correct one .
    Can anybody help me ?
    Thanks for answer !!

    Thanks for answer.
    I've tried this mthod:
    1. Booting from dca diskette
    2. Updating drivers with DU diskette (cpqncr.itu,smartii;itu,cpqfcs.itu,cpqary2.itu)
    3. Continuing using cdrom 1 of 2 in interactive mode.
After that i've the message :

    What's wrong ?
The only things I've seen is :
When i've construct the 4 DU diskettes, when QRST5.EXE has been executed to make the 4 disks, the messages on screen was :
Compaq Solaris DU diskette for Solaris 2.6 !!!!! and also in the readme files on DU diskette, 2.6 appears, but these drivers have been take from Solaris 2.8 link !!!
Perhaps it's the reason it doesn't see it as the correct drivers ?
Do you have other link to download the drivers ?

  • Solaris 8 installation problem on Dell PowerEdge 500SC

    Hi,
I am having TWO PROBLEMS installing Solaris 8 on Dell PowerEdge 500SC.
    This hardware spec is:
    Pentium-III at 1GHz
    256MB 133MHz ECC SDRAM
20GB 7200RPM ATA100 EIDE hard drive (on integrated ATA-100 controller)

    Motherboard: unknown
    more details: http://www.dell.com/us/en/esg/topics/esg_pedge_sc_towermain_servers_3_pedge_500sc.htm
FIRST PROBLEM is the following message was shown at the hardware probe.
WARNING: ACPI Tables not in Reclaim Memory
Warning: Resource Conflict - both devices are added
    NON-ACPI device: PNP0C01
    Port: C00-C01, C06-C08, C14, C50-C52, C6C-C6F,

    ACPI device: PNP0C01
    Port 814-85B, 580-58F, C00-CD7, F50-F58
At this time, I was using "Solaris 8 (Intel Platform Edition) 10/01" released version.
I am not sure what this means, but it was RESOLVED with using newer "x86 DCA boot diskette (Patch-ID# 110930-05)".
But, the SECOND REAL PROBLEM is another one. It just happens booting the kernel after the hardware probe. I get the following messages about 2 minutes later, after beginning to load kernel.
    WARNING:/pci@0,0/pci-ide@1/ata@1 (ata1): timeout: abort request, target=0 lun=0
    WARNING:/pci@0,0/pci-ide@1/ata@1 (ata1): timeout: about device, target=0 lun=0

    WARNING:/pci@0,0/pci-ide@1/ata@1 (ata1): timeout: reset bus, target=0 lun=0
After another 1 or 2 minutes I get more error and the system reboots.
Please give me any suggestion or advice!
    Thanks.

  • Solaris? Aolaris? - Solaris 10 installation problem

    Hi, gurus,
I downloaded the Solaris 10 GA bits, and successfully installed it in 1 of my PCs very smoothly, the feeling is so good. But when I tried to install it into another PC, I meet big problem.
I can not boot from the CD, the system hangs when I got the messages bellow (The first message of the booting progress):
" Aolaris Primary Boot Subsystem" "v2.0"
Something strange that here "Aoloris" not "Solaris".
I know that someone solve this problem by disable "FDD Legacy Support" from BIOS settings. But I checked my BIOS, there is no such setting.
    Any suggestions? comments?
BTW, my hw is "Tsinghua Tongfang Computer" from a Chinese manufacturer.

Finally I got the solution. Just change the USB settings in BIOS, and the problem solved.

  • Solaris 10 installation problems through IP-KVM and Realtek NIC drivers

I'm on an IP-KVM connection to the server, the installation failed with the message:
ERROR: Could not create the product file
ERROR: Could not install all packages. Product installation failed
    mkdir: "/a/var/sadm/launcher": I/O error

I tried a full install, I'm going to remove some of the unnecessary packages from the install list and try again. This media has been successfully used to install before so I'm hoping that would work. If anyone has any info though regarding the failure, please advice.
One of the problems is that the IP-KVM doesn't allow me to power the server off and on. When the install fails in the desktop console mode like this, is there a way to send a command to reboot the server? Sending ctrl-alt-del through the kvm client doesn't do anything. In case this happens again I'd like to be able to reboot myself.
I'm retrying the install in the console desktop mode so if it fails again I can probably open up a terminal window and issue the reboot command.
Also, the install is not recognizing the Realtek nic. It's an onboard controller in an Intel motherboard. Has anyone had any luck/tips on getting the drivers from www.realtek.co.tw to work? I haven't gotten to that stage yet but any advice would be appreciated for when I do.

  • Problems with Nforce4 install - audio/ethernet/raid

Just installed my Neo4 Platinum Nforce4 with XP Home SP2. I have a problem with the drivers. I went to the Nvidia site and download both the Unified Drivers and the standalone Kit for XP.
The unified driver set didn't seem to do anything at all, it seemed to quit half way through the install without giving me any finished message. A quick look in device manager and I saw about seven items with yellow warnings!
I then tried the standalone kit which worked better, however after the install I am still left with 3 items in device manager that are giving me warnings. Multimedia Audio Controller, Ethernet Controll & Serial ATA RAID controller. I have no audio at all, I just the BIOS is all is OK, as it is for everything else. In the sound section of control panel there is no audio hardware available.
Can anyone help please? I dunno what I could have done wrong. It's a fresh install.

I have now done eveything you've said. I installed the Nforce drivers off the CD, and then installed Realtek, Ethernet & RAID via Live update. I also tried to do the NVMixer & Nvidia Audio install install. I installed  realtek from the add/remove software menu. I then went into add new hardware and did manual install, show all hardware, have disk. Then I browsed to the Nvidia Audio codec folder on my desktop that I download. I was given an option of two drivers "nvmcp" & "nvmpu". I picked the first and ended up choosed "Nvidia audio codec interface" which then installed. It then appeared in device manager. However, when I clicked the audio panel in control panel I still get no audio device installed? I then tried to install NVMixer and when I try to run the application I get this message:
"the application cannot start because it could not detect any NVIDIA Nforce hardware on your system...."
What am I doing wrong? When I did the driver install there were two things listed in each driver "nvidia audio codec interface" and also "nvidia audio processing unit", which should I be choosing? Even if I try and installed the "MVP audio processing unit" I'll get a code(10) device cannot start in device manager. This is kinda confusing.
I also wondered about the RAID controller software. The silicon image drivers that came on the MSI seem horrible, they installed Java too. Is there any way to disable this controller? In the BIOS I can only see one option to enable RAID and when this is enabled device mananger will show an error on an "unknown device". I assume this is the NVRaid? and speaking of NVraid which is mentioned in big fat type on the back of the MSI box, so far I've seen or heard none of it during this installtion?

This looks like a known problem with TTA 4.00.903 and some Solaris

  • Solaris 8 on Intel STL2 server board - installation problem

    Hi,
I try to install Solaris 8 (4/01) on Intel STL2 server board (P III 866 MHz, SDRAM 512 ECC Reg, Adaptec AIC7899 Dual Channel-one Ultra160/LVD channel, Intel PRO/100+ Fast Ethernet Controller, ATI Rage* IIC SVGA) - without success.
It recognizes all devices but after I choose Solaris Interactive installation (from CD labeled Solaris 8 Software 1 of 2 Intel Platform Edition) it displays:
    Booting kernel/unix...
    SunOS Release 5.8 Version...
    then reboots after 2 seconds.
Since Intel STL2 board appears in the HCL for Solaris 8 I have struggled a while with the problem. I have not found neither post nor driver update information concerning this issue on the Solaris' related Web sites.
Finally, I found the very strange specification update info of STL2 board, published by Intel:
"13. Sun* Solaris* 8 installation issues
PROBLEM: Sun Solaris 8 cannot be installed on the STL2 server board with any BIOS version later than BIOS Release 1.1, Build 15. The system reboots during install and therefore the installation cannot be completed.
IMPLICATION: Installation of Sun Solaris 8 cannot be completed on an STL2 server board running any BIOS release later than BIOS Release 1.1, Build 15.
WORKAROUND: Sun Solaris* 8 will successfully install on the STL2 server board with BIOS Release 1.1, Build 15."
My BIOS release on the STL2 board is 1.7. It's too new to install Solaris 8 !?!
I am unable to get an old STL2 model with BIOS 1.1. Is there a way to update anything in the Solaris 8 in order to set it up on the new model of Intel STL2 server platform?
I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
    Matt

    The problem has been resolved.
I got the older BIOS 1.1 Build 15 for Intel STL2 from Intel Internet Support. After I installed BIOS 1.1 instead of BIOS 1.7 had no problem with installation of Solaris 8.

I had similar problems several months ago. I suspect this happens when host pc does not have floppy drive(or bios somehow misreports it) as it was in my case. Solaris 8 seems to work fine in the same environment, so I keep using it for now. Possible workaround might be to use DCA from Solaris 8: Installation of Sol9 started just fine after I entered Sol8 DCA and asked it to boot from Sol9 CD.
Hope this problem will be fixed in subsequent Sol9 releases.

I am trying to install XP Pro from the CD on a new pc, as listed on the sig.
The computer at first started realtek boot agent, but didnt found any HDD, i found this forum and made some changes:
    Pre-Raid Bios Tweaks
    Standard Cmos Features
The only thing I change here is to enable "32bit transfer mode" whenever I connect new devices to the Intel IDE controller.
Note: Devices attached to the Promise controller and the Intel Raid(when it is enabled) will NOT appear in the standard Cmos page
    Advanced Bios Features
Everything on defaults is usually fine except I always change the following for WinXP:
APIC ACPI SCI IRQ - Enabled
Boot Device select is also on this page and you'll be changing it after all the hardware is setup; more later.
    Advanced Cipset Features
Confirm that the memory timing "by SPD" is enabled
    PNP/PCI Configurations
Clear NVRam option I always set to "YES" before the first boot after making hardware changes. I'm not sure how important this is but I understand that's what you're supposed to do. I believe it forces the motherboard to detect hardware changes. It reverts to "NO" after the reboot.
PCI/IDE Busmaster set to "enabled" to speed things up outside of Windows.
Integrated Peripherals (Before Raid for most flexibilty)
Onboard Promise IDE - Disabled if you have nothing attached to IDE3 and Serial 3&4
    ON-Chip IDE Configuration:
Native Mode (Supported by WinXP- Allows all devices connected to IDE 1&2 and Serial 1&2 to be detected)
SATA Only or PATA Only (select the one that you boot XP with)
Keep SATA Active - Yes (if option available)
Keep PATA Active - Yes (if option available)
PATA Channel selection - Both (if option available)
Configure SATA as Raid - No (if option available)
Leave other settings here at default
Note: Some older Bios versions may appear different than above
    Frequency/Voltage Control
    Dynamic Overclocking - Disabled
    Performance Mode - Slow
    Dram Frequency - Auto
    Adjust CPU Bus - 201 (for "c" type cpu's)
DDR Voltage - 2.65 (minimum for Dual-Channel Mem stability)
    AGP Voltage - 1.55
This is a thumbnail at 63% scale, click for full sized image.
Note: some features above may not appear with your Bios
Note: performance & overclocking features can be increased again AFTER the Raid array has been setup and is stable with Windows.
The above text was copy pasted from this forum.
With my hdd allready recognized i started windows xp configuration, kept on going, formatted using NTFS, win config the started copying files for installation, then
gets to a point that says 'This portion of setup has completed successfully, remove
any disks from the A:\ drive, computer will reboot in 15 seconds.'
so it reboots, and it goes through the cycle again.
It reads the CD, asks if I want to setup Windows XP, then this msg appears "there
is already a \windows directory on the C:\ drive, do you want to do a dual
boot, do you want to delete the contents of this folder and install windows there,
or do you want to install to a separate directory", and a link to the microsoft website for advice on dual booting.
It does this over and over and over again.I tried ejecting the XP CD ROM and restarting, but then it
starts up and says "Missng Operating System"
why the heck does XP insist on restarting, only to go through the exact same setup
steps again?  What did i do wrong
    Thanks in advance
    Many thanks.
    Really

Thx for the advice, unfortunatly it didnt work, following your advice i didnt touch any key, the following msg appeared"invalid system disk", but before that i had one error(ive been having this error everytime i tried to install this windows xp cd on this new mobo): i made full format(10-20m), the pc started copying files but it stopped at 2% in the gdi32.dll file, saying to check if i had my cd on the drive, retried it 10 times then i ignored it, the next file in line made the same error, i kept ignoring all files(98% left and with same problem) till 100% completion. Meanwhile, and after going by the full format again, got the same error on the gdi32.dll file, this time i retried it a couple times and quited config(F3),rebboted and made the process all over again, this time i didnt formatted, the config made a disk maintainance, forced me to reboot. Booting from cd for the third time, i kept existing format but this time config copied all windows config files till the end, rebooted, touched no keys, got the same feared msg again"Invalid system disk".
Only ideas i have are: bad cd rom drive? bad cd?
    All advices are certainly welcome.
