Solaris 10 X86 and disabling the desktop start up?

I want to disable desktop start up and use command line interface? How do I can do this? My Solaris 10 x86 is installed on virtual PC and the desktop (or x) uses a lot of resources and I don�t need it.

the only thing that worked for me was:
svcadm disable svc:/application/graphical-login/cde-login:default
I had been using CDE last. The suggestion to /usr/dt/bin/dtlogin -d did not keep the graphical login from happening (that's suggested in the official online docs), and "dtlogin" is not recognized as a service by svcadm so that doesn't work either. Finally, very few services are started by /etc/*.d/ any more, of the remaining scripts in /etc/rc2.d S99dtlogin is not among them. So do the above with newer releases, mine is u3.
Incidentally, didn't "init -r" used to reveal the run level? Hmm... been a while since using Solaris but I still consider myself a Solaris person. So much is changing... hope it's finally faster and comes with a compiler. Really, it's that simple. Oh and getting over Linux to realize that Solaris is Solaris (in case that needs translation for Sun decision makers - that means Solaris is already better than Linux with the aforesaid improvements). Sorry, very off-topic but I won't post anything for another several years ;-)

Solaris 8 x86 and 10 x86 differences

I have a device driver that works on Solaris 8 x86. I installed this same device driver on a box with Solaris 10 x86. Under Solaris 10 x86 I get a message "WARNING: minor name <tec
_0> is not compatible network driver name <tec>". Also, opening the device under Solaris 10 x86 will cause the OS to quit responding. Where can I find a list of differences between Solaris 8 x86 and Solaris 10 x86?

Another way to install Matrox G550 is to Install AcceleratedX from www.xig.com
It supports a lot of graphic card and it also supports hardware acceleration for OpenGL
BUt obviously its not free :(

Cross compiling apps on solaris 8 for solaris 10 x86 and x64

We have a few applications built on Solaris 8. and we want to build the same apps on Solaris 10 x86 and x64 but the problem is clearcase does not support Solaris 10 yet.
Can we cross compile the apps on Solaris 8 for Solaris 10 x86 and x64 ? and how ?

FYI, I noticed the reply on Sun Studio General Forum:
If you build an app on one version of Solaris, the app will run on later Solaris versions. So in particular, you can build an x86 application on Solaris 8 and run it on Solaris 9 and 10.
Unfortunately, an x64 application must be built on a Solaris x64 system, which first became available with Solaris 10.

You are not running as administrator, I think, which may be required and the only way to properly work and register. Also check for compatibility mode settings, UAC and DEP, all of which may require to be adjusted for a legacy app like PS CS2 to run properly. Also turn off Aero and switch to a conventional visual theme. The brush issue may be related to that or is a more generic problem with your graphics card and mouse config, but since you didn't provide any info on that, it will be hard for anyone to advise.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Get an external hard drive on which to store some of your files after which you can
      erase the data from your internal drive to free up space.
5. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
6. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
7. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

Enable and Disable the file paths

Hai i have two file paths one logical file path and other is physical file path.
I took two radio buttons.
How can i enable and disable the file paths by using these radio buttons.
When i select the 1st radio button then 1st file path is in enable and second file path in disable mode similarly for the second radio button also.

Copy control for dates and disable the input

I have the following problem: I'm trying to copy dates in a follow-up order from the source order (which works fine by implementing the CRM_COPY_BADY method DATES) and disable the input of the copied dates in the follow-up order (which doesn't work).
In the change-parameter CT_INPUT_FIELDS you can specify the fields which have to be copied and furthermore you can control the modifiability of the field in the follow-up order via the parameter CHANGEABLE (e.g. 'A' means field can not be changed). This technique is the same in all methods of the copy BADI.
Unfortunately it doesn't work for the dates. As I said already, the date is copied but can be changed by the user in the follow-up order.
Anybody an idea?

Actually, I have tried with copy requirement 2.However, it works for copying a different customer with the same sales area as original. Yes, I may need to ask developer to solve my solution. But I would like to keep it to be the last choice. I tried to search "How to copy document between inter-company businees"; but the I still not get what my custome's want. Enabling and disabling the button in the multi record block

i am using
Forms [32 Bit] Version 6.0.8.24.1 (Production)
Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
i have a multi record block each block contains a button(button is to approve the record in terms of changing the status)
i have the items like date,remarks and button
the button should be enabled if the remarks is not null otherwise it should be disabled.
for this in pre-record trigger i have written

You need to set the No. of items displayed to 1 as Ammad had said, additionally you can set the X and Y Position (Just Y will do and having fixed X) of the button depending upon the current record.

HT201240 migrating to OS 10.5 from 10.4. I forgot the password to my encrypted home folder and am unable to log in and reach the desktop.

It appears that I have lost the ability to log in and reach the desktop because of problems accessing my keychain for Filevault.So, I need to reboot from DVD, change my login password, which I can accomplish via the utilities menu in the startup OS 10.5 dvd, then change my filevault keychain password. OS 10.5 is installed on the macbook, by the way.
I need to find a way to a similar utility that allows me to change the keychain password to filevault from the dvd as well. Is there a way to do this through the utilities menu? Changing the keychain access is recommended elsewhere using Apple menu's System Preferences selection, but the selection is grayed out as is the entire Apple menu when I am at the startup installation screen, which is the same place I am able to access the utilities menu for the login password change. Please help. Thanks

Ouch, the Filevault/Master Password is totally different.
One of the drawbacks of encrypting data is that if the user forgets his or her password, access to the files in the home folder is lost. If an account has FileVault enabled, an administrator user cannot use Accounts preferences to change that account's password, nor can the administrator user turn off FileVault for the account; only the user can do that.
Because users often forget passwords, Mac OS X provides a master password feature to allow passwords on FileVault-protected accounts to be reset. The master password is used only as a back door for recovering FileVault-encrypted accounts. If during login a user enters three incorrect passwords for his or her FileVault-encrypted account, the account's password hint is displayed along with a Reset Password button. After the user clicks Reset Password and enters the master password (obtained from the administrator), he or she can set a new login password.
If you forget the master password, you can reset it, but you must know the passwords for any accounts with FileVault enabled:
As an administrator user, delete the master password keychain file (/Library/Keychains/FileVaultMaster.keychain). When the master password keychain is deleted, Mac OS X assumes that no master password is set yet.
In Security preferences, set a new master password.
Log in to each account that has FileVault turned on, and use Accounts preferences to reset the password for each account.
NOTE
Do not forget the master password! Although it is possible to reset the master password, it still requires all users with FileVault-protected accounts to know their passwords. If a user has forgotten his or her login password, and you have forgotten the master password, there is no way to recover the user's data.

Yes.
1) Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> ports on your existing wireless router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule
2) Go through the standard configuration suggested by the setup "wizard"
3) Then manually turn off the wireless function using AirPort Utility

That's possible. 27-inch iMacs and iMacs with Thunderbolt (Mid 2011 and later iMacs) can be used as an external display for other computers > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
The Late 2012 iMac has got Thunderbolt ports, and your Early 2011 MacBook Pro has got also Thunderbolt, so you just need a Thunderbolt cable to connect both Macs. Then, press Command and F2 keys in the iMac to use it as an external display for the MacBook
