I search in google but dont get satisfactory answer ... ...Crash recovery is performed whenever their is instance failure (single instance or RAC)
Crash recovery is done in two phase 1) Cache recovery 2) Transaction Recovery.
So crash recovery includes cache recovery.
Cache recovery means to apply redo log from log cache to the datafiles which may contain uncommitted transaction also.
These uncommitted transactions should be rolled back during crash recovery, and hence in transaction recovery it applied undo for all such uncommitted transaction.

  • Crash recovery

    Hello,
Who initiate the crash recovery? SMON process or any other process?
In the ealier version of oracle (Oracle 7.3), it was instance recovery,
Now in Oracle 9i there are two types of recovery one crash recovery and another is instance recovery.
I want to know that whether in prior to Oracle 9i, there were two such recovery or only one?
    Thanks.

    crash recovery
The automatic application of online redo records to a database after either a single-instance database crashes or all instances of an Oracle Real Applications Cluster configuration crash. Crash recovery only requires redo from the online logs: archived redo logs are not required.
In crash recovery, an instance automatically recovers the database before opening it. In general, the first instance to open the database after a crash or SHUTDOWN ABORT automatically performs crash recovery.
    instance recovery
In an Oracle Real Applications Cluster configuration, the application of redo data to an open database by an instance when this instance discovers that another instance has crashed.
    Hope it helps.

  • What happended to the Solaris Crash Analysis Tool 4.2 for Solaris 10?

What happended to the Solaris Crash Analysis Tool 4.2 for Solaris 10?
I'm trying to debug a kernel panic under Solaris 10 on sparcv9. I tried the SUNWscat 4.1 package but it core dumps on Solaris 10. I found a blog entry that described the problem and mentioned a version 4.2 fix. That was from May 2006, but I have not found any update sense then. Was 4.2 ever released or is their an alternative tool for Solaris 10 that I can use?

One problem is that those of us who develop Solaris CAT do so as a "hobby" as it's not part of our actual jobs. But he good news is that management gave us the time to get a release out and 5.0 is now available here . We're now planning 6 month releases so we don't have a 5 year delay between updates.
BTW, the Solaris Crash Analysis Tool supports Solaris 10, OpenSolaris/Solaris Nevada, sparc, and x86/x64.
There are so many enhancements and bug fixes that I'd recommend reading the release notes (SUNWscat/docs/index.html).

  • Solaris Crash Analysis Tool available any more?

I'm trying to locate the Solaris Crash Analysis Tool v.5.2. Is it even available any more? I tried dl'ing the Oracle Services Tools Bundle (STB) v.6.0 but that didn't contain SUNWscat. Any ideas? If it's not available I'd appreciate confirmation that it isn't...

  • Outputs about the Solaris Crash Analysis Tool

    Hello all.
I am new hear and would like to ask a question regarding to the Solaris Crash Analysis Tool.
We are analyzing the results of "thread summary" but not quite sure what the asterisk represents.
Following are the items that asterisk were attached.
50* threads sleeping on a semaphore (49 user, 1 kernel)
49* threads in biowait() (49 user, 0 kernel)
1* process with 19 pending and 0 done kaio
3* interrupt threads running (0 user, 3 kernel)
It would be helpful if someone in this forum can educate us
    what does the asterisk mean.
    Thanks,
    Yu

    In addition, is the value
"threads sleeping on a semaphore" and the "QNUM" in ipcs -q
    the same?
It would be helpful if this question is also answered.
    Thanks,
    Yu

  • Rescue and Recovery AND Create Recover Media crash

    Hi,
I need some guidance on my problems with Think Vantage. I am new to this forum and overwhelmed by the volume of information.
My problem. "Rescue and Recovery" AND "Create Recover Media" crash when I attempt to use them.
I have a Lenovo  N100 0768A27 running XP. Everything is up-to-date. I have no other problems!
I have downloaded the System Tool Box but that does not want to work either.
I am running R&R version 3.01.1037.00 and I think Client Security 6.1.44.0 but is does not show in my application list only when I logon.
I must confess to turning RR off for a while as I was short of space.
I have tried updating RR to version 4.2 but cannot de-install original version.
I would appreciate some direction on who to step thru this problem and what info to use.
    Regards
              Garry

  • Rollback ( Tx Recovery) and Roll forward ( cache Recovey)

    Hi Guys,
I have a some doubt after Going through the links :
Difference between redo logs and undo tablespace and Oracle DBA ADMIN Guide (E25494-02).
    1) Redologs Contain committed and Uncommitted data . Wether they also contain before Image Data ? or its vector that points to the Undo Segments ?
Doc Says : Redo entries record data that you can use to reconstruct all changes made to the database, including the undo segments.
But Above forum Links says that it contains the vector only .
    2) Crash of database ( Abort) , how it happens .
I know first it makes the roll forward and then backward. During this Time Undo Tablespace Comes into the picture ? Do the Undo tablespace segments are build from the redo logs. Please Help on this. really get confused
I try to test few scenarios but Not able to conclude ?
    1> Make A TXN ( Updated almost 29000 rows )
    2) Abort the Database.
    3) Change the undo Tablespace Name in init file some dummy .

    Hi Hemant,
Thank you very much , really very helpful. One More Question :
Why Oracle do the Double work ? First Populate the Undo Blocks and then do the roll backward ? Why Not directly recovered from the redo logs for uncommitted txn.Its not the doubling of the work. Oracle updates teh Undo blocks with the old data and since the Undo blocks are also just like the Other data blocks, any changes done to them is also logged as a Change Vector to the redo log files. This means, that there would be an Undo data block change vector recorded in the redo log file before the change vector of the data block which contains the data of your statement. This is what is meant when it is said that the redo log also contains the old images . The idea is to do the recovery, when needed, in the same sequence(based on the SCN's) using everything from the redo log files. This would include the recovery of the Undo datafiles as well in the case they are lost too!

  • Recovery and data preservation

I have a hp pavilion dv 8000. Had a operating system crash. Goes to windows xp prof sTar up screen then asks for safe mode, safe mode with networking etc. selecting any will cause system to reboot and start process over in a perpetual loop. It has two physicla drives. Hitachi. When it was operating ok it had a c drive for software exe. And d drive for data. When I use an adapter to see each drive after removing them, all I see is a f drive for my data on one physical drive and f disk and recovery g disk on the other. Files on recovery seem to be hidden. The operating system xp is corrupt so I should see the c drive, but don,t I want to get some pst files out of c drive. How do it do it Also i made recovery disks about 3 yrs ago. If I use them wil I lose all pst on c drive and data on d drive? NEED HELP!

    Jim,
Thanks for chiming in on a topic where I didn't expect to get many replies. All of your comments are well appreciated. I was basically asking because I was under the impression that unless your master is in RAW format, making adjustments to exposure, contrast and even recovery and black point would not do much and could even be detrimental to things such as skin tone, etc. I like to shoot in RAW for the reason of being able to have more fine control to adjustments, but for everyday shots and portraits I don't always go to RAW format since a lot of the time I have trouble getting the shot right with the manual controls. I also don't want the large RAW files for every shot that I take. Still, a lot of JPEG's need adjustments, even if just minor tweaks. The tweaks I make look fine on the screen, but I wasn't sure if they would look okay when printed out and I didn't want to spend countless hours making adjustments and spend (waste) money on prints that weren't going to come out good.
Anyway, that is the background to my thinking in making this post. Thanks again for chiming in.

  • OS 10.4.11 - MacBook Pro Crashing more and more every day - why?

Crashes more and more often - several times in a day.
Hope someone can help. This has happened to some of my friends who just put up their hands and bought one of the newer macs. I've only had this one for a year, and I don't/can't put up the funds all over again. I really really need this to work for school and for my job. Please help!

I tried booting from the apple cd and doing verify/repair - but that hasn't fixed the crashes. I am not a tech type person and I live VERY far from a apple store. My panic log and other recent logs are pasted below.

Backup your files. Erase the drive and reinstall the OS. If that doesn't fix it, then it's probably a hardware issue.

I just download and install itunes 10.5 and it worked good the first days but since yesterday it crashed up, and everytime i start it it crashes again and logged me out each time. it can´t acces my itunes account. I´m using snow leopard the last version. What can i do to solve this problem and and continue using my itunes normally?

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
    Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com.  Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan.  Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans.  Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors  This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive
    Good Luck!!.

  • My 27" late 2013 iMac crashes over and over again

My wife and I bought identical iMacs (3.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 32 GB 1600MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB) in December. Both are up to date on OS X Mavericks. It crashes while I am using it, it crashes on its own if I leave it on overnight.  Sometimes just Mail crashes. I have never been able to associate this with any particular event -- once I was watching a video, once I was playing a Flash game online, once I was just reading Facebook, once I wasn't doing anything, several times it was overnight when I left it running...you get the idea.  I thought it might be TuneUp, which seemed to destabilize my old iMac, but my wife just finally got hers up and running and she is getting crashes too, and she doesn't have TuneUp.
This was shipped directly from Apple to a local AppleStore - no modifications by me.  Currently no third-party devices, either -- just hooked up to my iPad and iPhone and a keyboard.
Looking at the discussion, this is endemic. Any new discoveries, or am I going to have to take this sucker back?
I can't read the technical data in the logs, but I will paste in the log on the last kernel panic (this morning).
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks--

The person above instructions were acurate. Also make sure your appdata folder is clear of the app's files. After the antivirus is gone click on finder in your dock. Then click Go. Once there click go to folder and type in "~/library/Application Support". There look around for the app's name. If a folder is named after the app is there, trash it. If it won't let you there are detailed instructions on how to force delete it. Just google. Now if you are still having the issue after the app is gone try resetting RAM. I recommend you do this first. If you are still getting errors click here. If the issue is still happening contact support imidiately, they can help.

  • Impact and Lineage Analysis- Job Program error

    Hello Experts,
We have Business Objects XIR3.1 SP4 installed on Windows Server 2003 with Apache Tomcat 5.5 and Metadata Integrator DS XI 3.2 installed on the same stand alone server. We have our repositories on 10g.
We have configured the Metadata Integrator with the Business Objects CMS to use the Impact and Lineage Analysis tool and Oracle 10g repository and the connection is successful.
We have a "program job" related to metadata integrator on the business objects infoview portal and when I run the job, and check the log file, I get the below error message:
" ## An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virutal Machine.## EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x776baeb5,pid=10732, tid=3760## Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.5.0_11-b03 mixed mode)# Problematic frame:# C [ole32.dll+0x4aeb5]## An error report file with more information is saved as hs_err_pid10732.log## If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit:#http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp#"
I opened up a ticket with SAP and it seems this is out of their scope for Support. I cannot even find the hs_err_pid file and I have searched the whole machine.
Any idea/suggestion to fix this error message?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Nawfal,
    Thanks for the reply.
Yes, the JAVA_HOME environment variable is set on the server.
Are you referring to the Metadata Manager? I think MM is different from Metadata Integrator and I don't see any properties related to MI in the CMC.
All I have is a "Progam Job" in our Infoview, when it runs, it should extract the data from our BO repo and dump it in the DS MI repo. This job is completing successfully but the log has error - same error which I mentioned in my previous post
I checked the Properties of this program, and for program parameters it has
    Arguments = "Metadata Integrator_5" -Xms128m -Xms512m NO
I have attached the log file. Can you please give a look ?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks again,

  • When occurs crash recovery, why use active online redo log not archived log?

If current redo log had archived, but it's still 'ACTIVE'. As we all know, archived log is just an archived copy of the current redo log which is still 'ACTIVE', they have the same data. But why use active online redo log not archived log for crash recovery?(I think, if crash recovery can use archived log, then whether the online redo log is 'ACTIVE' or not, it can be overwritten)
    Quote:
Re: v$log : How redo log file can have a status ACTIVE and be already archived?
    Hemant K Chitale
If your instance crashes, Oracle attempts Instance Recovery -- reading from the Online Redo Logs. It doesn't need ArchiveLogs for Instance Recovery.
    TanelPoder
Whether the log is already archived or not doesn't matter here, when the instance crashes, Oracle needs some blocks from that redolog. Archivelog is just an archived copy of the redolog, so you could use either the online or achive log for the recovery, it's the same data in there (Oracle reads the log/archivelog file header when it tries to use it for recovery and validates whether it contains the changes (RBA range) in it what it needs).

    Aman.... wrote:
    John,
Are you sure that the instance recovery (not the media recovery) would be using the archived redo logs? Since the only thing that would be lost is the isntance, there wouldn't be any archived redo log generated from the Current redo log and the previous archived redo logs, would be already checkpointed to the data file, IMHO archived redo logs won't participate in the instance recovery process. Yep, shall watch the video but tomorrow .
    Regards
    Aman....
That's what I said. Or meant to say. If Oracle used archivelogs for instance recovery, it would not be possible to recover in noarchive log mode. So recovery relies exclusively on the online log.
Sorry I wasted your time, I'll try to be less ambiguous in future

  • ROLLBACK SEGMENT NEEDS RECOVERY AND HOW TO RESOLVE IT

    제품 : ORACLE SERVER
    작성날짜 : 1995-02-06
    Subject :
This article discusses what it means when a rollback segment needs
recovery and how to resolve it.
    OVERVIEW
This bulletin discusses why a rollback segment is the status of
"needs recovery", what the status means, and how to resolve it.
    INTRODUCTION
Rollback segments can be monitored through the data dictionary view,
dba_rollback_segments. There is a status column that describes what state
the rollback segment is currently in. Normal states are either online or offline.
Occasionally, the status of "needs recovery" will appear.
This is considered to be a corrupted rollback segment.
When a rollback segment is in this state, bringing the rollback segment
offline or online either through the alter rollback segment command or
removing it from the rollback segments parameter in the init.ora usually has no effect.
    UNDERSTANDING
A rollback segment falls into this status of needs recovery whenever
Oracle tries to roll back an uncommitted transaction in its transaction
    table and fails.
Here are some examples of why a transaction may need to rollback:
1-A user may do a dml transaction and decides to issue rollback
2-A shutdown abort occurs and the database needs to do an instance recovery
in which case, Oracle has to roll back all uncommitted transactions.
When a rollback of a transaction occurs, undo must be applied to the
data block the modified row/s are in. If for whatever reason, that data
block is unavailable, the undo cannot be applied. The result is a
'corrupted' rollback segment with the status of needs recovery.
What could be some reasons a datablock is unaccessible for undo?
1-If a tablespace or a datafile is offline or missing.
2-If the object the datablock belongs to is corrupted.
3-If the datablock that is corrupt is actually in the rollback segment
    itself rather than the object.
    HOW TO RESOLVE IT
1-MAKE sure that all tablespaces are online and all datafiles are
online. This can be checked through dba_data_files under the
status column. For tablespaces, look in dba_tablespaces.
If that still does not resolve the problem then
2-PUT the following in the init.ora-
event = "10015 trace name context forever, level 10"
Setting this event will generate a trace file that will reveal the
necessary information about the transaction Oracle is trying to roll
back and mostimportantly, what object Oracle is trying to apply
    the undo to.
3-TAKE the corrupted rollback segment out of the rollback_segments parameter in the init.ora
4-SHUTDOWN the database (if normal does not work, immediate, if that does
not work, abort) and bring it back up.
Note: An ora-1545 may be encountered, or other errors, that is ok.
5-CHECK in the directory that is specified by the user_dump_dest parameter
(in the init.ora or show parameter command) for a trace file that was
    generated at startup time.
6-IN the trace file, there should be a message similiar to-
    error recovery tx(#,#) object #.
    TX(#,#) refers to transaction information.
The object # is the same as the object_id in sys.dba_objects.
7-USE the following query to find out what object Oracle is trying to
    perform recovery on.
    select owner, object_name, object_type, status
    from dba_objects where object_id = <object #>;
8-THIS object must be dropped so the undo can be released. An export or
relying on a backup may be necessary to restore the object after the corrupted
    rollback segment goes away.
9-AFTER dropping the object, put the rollback segment back in the init.ora
parameter rollback_segments, removed the event, and shutdown and startup
    the database.
In most cases, the above steps will resolve the problematic rollback segment.
If this still does not resolve the problem, it may be likely that the corruption is
    in the actual rollback segment.
At this point, if the problem has not been resolved, please contact
    customer support.

Yes we were having the performance issues when it is getting locked? in this what i want to know
    why it happens suddenly?
or what package this piece of code is calling?
or is there any possiblity of system will degrade the performance like sys user etc...?
where exactly i found the root cause for further analysis?
so that next time onwards if particular objects is locking we come to know why it happens is there any logical false or how do we eliminate this issue last time?
coz in our environment sometimes most of lockings are from the same table?
pls let me know where i have to concentrate for debug and how to troubloshoot and reslove this
sorry for the inconvience.. i m expecting the answer from here. if anybody wants some more info i ll let him know.
as of till now i got some docs i start to read this.
    Regards
