Solaris Express, Dev. Edition 2/07 install problem

Im trying to install the solaris express developer edition 2/07 dvd i got in the mail.
Everything goes fine until i have to set up the hard drive for installation. I have two hard drives, 1 SATA (Server 2003), and a 20Gb IDE for this Solaris install.
When i click next to start installing, it drops out with an error against Solaris Software. the error is as follows:
ERROR: Could not create Fdisk partition table.
ERROR: Could not label disks
ERROR: Could not update disks with new configuration
ERROR: System installation failed
Pfinstall failed. Exit stat = java.lang.UNIXProcess@2af0812
sing existing Solaris fdisk partition (c2d1)
Im not a nub to linux but i have never used solaris and its been a few years since i've touched it - but im familiar with console.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. =D

You do not supply more comprehensive info on Your hardware. Therefore I would like to suggest quite conservative approach.
1. First of all it will be helpful to get from SUN's website the "Install check tool". It is an image (bootable CD) of diagnostic soft.
2. Disable in Bios the SATA disk.
3. Boot the computer with "Install_check_tool" CD inserted into the drive. I hope that this diagnostics will be OK.
4. Restart the computer and start Solaris installation. You can perform this step directly after step no. 2. Now Bios will see only IDE disc and installation should proceed OK. If not - supply more info on Your hardware and resulting (in this situation) diagnostics.
Good luck!

  • Problem with installing Solaris Express Community Edition(Virtual Machine)

When I start my virtual machine to install Solaris Express Community Edition(X86 edition), it just displays an character interface

and there is no other useful information, so I don't know what to do next, does anyone can help?

Try seting "-jdkhome xxxxxxxxxx" in the ide.cfg file in your Forte \bin\ directory. Point it to the SDK install directory - that is, make "xxxxxxxxxx" the path to the SDK install.
You seem to be accessing a java.exe that is pointing to a location that is other than where jvm.dll is residing. This may get you to executing the correct java.exe.

  • A problem logging in in Solaris Express Developer Edition 05/07

    Hi all.
I just upgraded Solaris 10 11/06 to Solaris Express Developer Edition 05/07 on a Sun Ultra 20 M2 and a strange problem arose: after root has logged in in a Gnome session, then when another user tries to log in in Gnome everything slows down: the login screen with "Window manager" takes some 20 secs to go away and then "Panel" sticks there... The only option is killing X with ctrl+alt+backspce. This only happens if root logs in with Gnome, and not in CDE. If root doesn't log in, nothing strange happens ever.
The problem seems unrelated with the user that logs in:
    - existing users which could login in Solaris 10 11/06 now have this problem
    - new users have this problem too...
Rebooting the machine and never logging in to Gnome with root "solves" the problem.
Has anyone ever had this problem?
Can be a problem relating to upgrading?
    Thanks,
    Enrico.

You should probably direct SXDE queries to the forums at http://opensolaris.org, more chance of a response from the JDS developers there.

    Hi,
Help me in installing Solaris Express, Developer Edition
When i am trying to install Solaris, system hangs and the moniter is switcher off when the system goes in GUI mode.
i have intel 945GTP mother board with as on board Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Drives , Chipset -> Intle 945G , 160 SATA Hard Disk, 1 GB DDR2 Ram , P4 3.Ghz Processer , on board Intel PRO/100 VE Network Card.

    Hello,
first of all: Try to run the HCTS (Hardware
Compatibility Test Suite) first, it's available
    here:
    http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/hcts/device_detect.htm
    l
This you can run from Windows, and it will list all
hardware that has drivers, and all those, that do not
have drivers (including some public domain drivers).
After that, you have the possibility to install
Solaris WITHOUT a GUI, use one of the two "terminal"
modes. The first Is still a GUI, as it only starts X
and opens a terminal, in which then the installer
runs. The second does NOT start X, but runs the
installer on the console. Try this one, and once you
get through that, you can afterwards figure out the
    settings of the Xserver.Hi ,
i have installed the solaris using console.
Still GUI is not starting, the moniter is switched off when GUI gets started
I used Hardware Compatibility Test Suite, its say that system is supported
    by Solaris.
Should i have change BIOS setting to stated the system

  • Solaris Express Developer Edition + Apple Airport Extreme

I just installed Solaris Express Develper Edition without any problems, but I can't seem to get my wireless connection up and running. I use an Apple Airport Extreme and while my MacBook with Mac OS X and my Xubuntu machine have no problems connecting to the internet through the Airport, my Solaris says he can't connect.
I allready disabled the Auto-magic stuff so I can setup the connection manually. I did it with the following two commands:
    svcadm disable svc:/network/physical:nwam
    svcadm enable svc:/network/physical:default
The wireless interface ath0 can detect all the available networks (including mine), so it works.
My Airport uses WPA/WPA2 Personal and DHCP.
In the Network settings of Solaris I've set the properties of the wireless ath0 interface as follows:
    * enable this connection
    * activate on boot
    * network name (ESSID): my network is detected and I can select it from the dropdown list of available networks
    * Key Type: Plain (ASCII)
    * WEP key: my WEP key (the thing I filled in as WPA/WPA2 Personal on my airport)
    * Connection settings Configuration: DHCP
I click OK and then try to activate the ath0 interface, but it doesn't work. The message is:
"Could noet enable the interface ath0
Check that the settings are correct for this network and that the computer is correctly connected to it".
Which is frustrating, because as far as I know, the settings are correct (ESSID, WEP, ...) and the computer is correctly connected as it can detect all the available wifi networks in my area.
Does anybody have any idea? Thnx in advace,
    Nico

  • Differences between Soalris and Solaris Express /Developer Edition

    Hi
Thank you for readingn my post
What is different between Solaris Express (Developer Edition) and solaris OS?
Are they the same and with same capabilities?
Can I install S1 Grid suite in a Express edition?
    Thanks

Solaris 10 (with several updates) is the current release version of the Solaris operating system.
Since the release in '05, Sun has been developing the "next" version of Solaris. Using the OpenSolaris code as a base, this version is codenamed "Nevada". Periodic builds of this version are available as Solaris Express. So you get more up-to-date drivers, features, and bugs from it. Because it's under development, there are no patches. Instead you'd need to upgrade to the next release (or create your own patch).
I haven't looked specifically at S1 Grid, so it very likely will install. However installations on Solaris Express may not be a supported configuration if you need that.

  • Solaris Express Developer Edition, free DVD kit

Today I ordered the "Free Solaris Express Developer Edition DVD":
"For a limited time, Sun is offering a Solaris Express Developer Edition DVD for x86 platforms mailed to you at no charge." (http://developers.sun.com/sxde/download.jsp)
Will I get the new 9/07 version or an older one? When I ordered Solaris 10 some time ago, Sun sent me version 11/06.
    Thanks!

Well, it looks like this version of Solaris simply forgot to bundle the FLAC gstreamer plugin. Does anyone know where to find a version compiled for solaris?

  • Solaris Express Developer Edition on Acer Aspire 9100

I did some research and it appears that the latest edition or Solaris Express will install and work on the Acer Aspire 9100. It is a turion with a nvidia chipset, atheros wireless and an nvidia 6100 graphics chip set. Does anyone have experience with this install.

Re research: You have tested Your hardware with Hardware_Detection_Tool? It seems to be more up to date than Install_Check. Install (or use already installed version) Windows, download this small tool and run it on-line (Internet connectionis necessary). Latest nevada version fills many gaps in previous releases.
    Good luck!

  • User's profile in Solaris Express Developper Edition

I was just wondering, where is the ".profile" in Solaris Epress DE located.
In Solaris 10 it's just located in the user's local directory.
In other words how can I edit a user's profile in Solaris Express?

  • Solaris Express , Developer Edition as a linux alternative

    Hi Folks,
there is no doubt that Solaris began shining lately . I'm thinking to install it on my laptop as an alternative to linux to develop web applications .
some issues are bothering my a lot, I'll name them to you ,so we can decide together :
    1. ruby official website does not provide a solaris package, how to develop Rails websites then ?
    2. Mono has no official package for x86 machines running solaris , only Solaris 8 (Sparc) is supported .
I'm very interested in Solaris, especially Developer edition , eager to start to installing it !
    what do you think ?

I think I hope it installs, especially on a laptop system. It failes to install on every desktop system here, I wouldn't dare put it in my laptop and see what it says. Laptops usually have a more esoteric hardware configuration than desktop systems.
For you I really don't see the benefit of switching operating systems just to develop web applications. If you were a Java developer developing J2EE web applications then Solaris and it's integrated Java Enterprise system and first-rate developer tools would be a great change, but for Ruby on Rails and Mono - I don't see the point.
For Ruby there may be a package available, check the OpenSolaris website and see if it has been ported over (it most probably has been, but I haven't checked yet).
For Mono... I don't see the point in developing .NET web applications for Linux/Solaris, so I won't go there. Mono is a joke compared to Microsoft's .NET platform.

  • Oracle 10g Express Edition Beta 3 Install Problems

I made three install attempts for this software, and I'll detail them below.
This was a fresh install on a computer that previously had no other version running
    ATTEMPT 1
The installation procedure ran, but even though the OracleServiceXE service started, the server wouldn't work and I couldn't connect to it.
    c:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\config\log\postDBCreation.log contained the following...
    SQL> connect "SYS"/"&&sysPassword" as SYSDBA
    ERROR:

    SQL> connect "SYS"/"&&sysPassword" as SYSDBA
    ERROR:
    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
I proceeded to uninstall and then reinstall in attempt 2.
    ATTEMPT 2
This time, the installation procedure ran but didn't finish. It got up to the point where it said "Creating and starting services for Oracle Database 10g Express Edition..." and it sat there for a long time doing nothing, but there was a process "IDriver.exe" using a large percentage of the CPU all that while.
I ended up having to kill the installation process with the task manager to stop it, and then since the installation wasn't successful had to manually delete everything in c:\oraclexe
    ATTEMPT 3
This time the installation went a lot better and after the install, everything in c:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\config\log\postDBCreation.log looks normal.
I am able to connect to the database with sqlplus now, but the OracleXETNSListener process won't start.
When starting, it says this, but the OracleXETNSListener doesn't stay running:
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>net start OracleXETNSListener
The OracleXETNSListener service was started successfully.
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>net start OracleServiceXE
    The OracleServiceXE service is starting.
The OracleServiceXE service was started successfully.
If I start the service in the windows services application it says "The OracleXETNSListener service on Local Computer started and then stopped..."
However, if I explicitly run c:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\bin\tnslsnr.exe from the commandline, it works.
Why won't it start as a service?

    Hello
    I have the same problem.
    My config :
    - XP SP 2
    Other installed products :
    - last version Oracle JDevelopper
    - Oracle Client 9.2.0 (the service does not run)
    By the way,
JDev needs ORACLE_HOME set (c:\oracle for me).
Should Oracle XE be installed in %ORACLE_HOME% too or in an new empty folder (like c:\oraclexe) as it is recommended by the installer
I checked if I already use the port 1521 using netstat /ab but it seems this port is not used.
On a second PC, it works well.
How can I access the DB on my secondary PC from jdev on my priomary PC?
--> how can I only install OracleXE client on my primary PC?

  • Solaris 10 branded zone VM Template Install Problem

    Hi,
I don't seem to be able to install the template on a system that uses an aggregate NIC (aggr0).  The template install script is looking for physical NICs, which it can't use since the NICs are assigned to the aggregate link.
Any suggestions for a clean solution or workaround?
    Thanks

    On line 1 of /tmp/zcfg.final:
    SYSsolaris10: No such zone configured
Problem configuring the zone10 zone, exitingThis indicates one of two things:
    1. You are not running Solaris 11. You may be running Solaris 11 Express, where that template zone name would have been SUNWsolaris10 rather than SYSsolaris10.
    2. You do not have the solaris10 brand installed. You can fix that with:
    # pkg install pkg:/system/zones/brand/brand-solaris10In either case, it would probably be better for the script that wraps the archive to check before trying to install the zone to give a more helpful error message.
rm: Cannot remove any directory in the path of the current working directory
    //bootimage.7Oayzm/bootstrap
rm: Unable to remove directory //bootimage.7Oayzm: Directory not emptyThis seems to be an unrelated bug in the error handling routines in the script that wraps the archive. I'll raise this thread to the attention of those that assemble the VM Templates.
