Hi,
What are the other messages u r getting.
R u getting ORA-27102 also.
This problem is the result of the kernel parameters for Oracle not being setup properly in the /etc/system file.
Please see the Installation Guide for complete instructions.
Here is an example of the Oracle related settings in the /etc/system file.
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=20
set semsys:seminfo_semmns=2000
set semsys:seminfo_semmni=70
Please reboot your machine after making any changes to the /etc/system file.
Thanks

Solaris installation - ORA-27302
Hi,
I was trying to install the Oracle Collaboration Suite on a Solaris box. During the Information storage, I got the following error in the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant:
ORA-27302: failure occured at: skgpwreset1
ORA-27303: additional information: invalid shared ctx
ORA-27146: post/wait initialization failed
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation: semget failed with status: 28
ORA-27301: OS Failure message: No space left on device.
ORA-27302: failure occured at: sskgpsemsper.
The disk for Oracle is total 27 GB and still have 14 GB free space.
I have inserted the sample setting stated in the Table 2-19 to /etc/system and installed the patch clusters.
Anyone has any clue about this problem? Most probably you have run out of 'inodes' - check the documentation for the kernel parameter settings like max open files, ulimit etc etc
hope this helps
Gavin This helps! Thanks Gavin! -
Oracle 11g Installation DBCA ORA-01034: Oracle Not Available
I have two oracle databases installed (using the default settings in dbca) and running on a Windows 2003 R2 server, already.
However, when I try and create a third using the defaults, after 2%, dbca receives an ORA-01034: Oracle Not Available and stops the creation process.
I've searched 16 hours or so for a similar issue, but haven't had much luck other than to check sqlnet.ora for OS authentication, the registry keys, and tnsnames.ora.
I've looked at the trace log for dbca a few times for the different attempts at creating a new database, and they tend to differ when the error is generated.
Looking at Event Viewer, I noticed that connection events occurred during installation, and that for at least one case, CONNECT / AS SYSDBA occured 3 times before the error was generated.
I've made more than 3 databases on another machine (XP - not server 2003), without any issue, but it seems odd that this error would be because of server 2003.
I'm fairly inexperienced with configuring databases for Oracle, so please excuse my ignorance.
Here's a log file to accompany the issue:

Any help will be greatly appreciated.I found out from another dba that oracle takes up 1 gb of memory by default. So creating 2 databases with default settings means that 2 gb of memory was taken on a windows 32 bit server. So that means only 2 gb is available to the machine, and the server takes up more than half of that making the memory available scarce for another oracle database to be created.

ORA-01034 when trying to create a database
I successfully installed Oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris 8, but when I tried creating a database (by executing sql<SID>.sh after I ran "dbassist"), this error appeared:
ORA-01034: Oracle not available.
I could not use svrmgrl to do a startup because there is NO database.
What services have to run before I can create a database?
Thank you.
nullI chose "custom installation" and not to create a database during installation. There was no error when I installed the Oracle software and I modified the /etc/system (shmmax, shmmin, etc.) according to the Oracle documentation. After that, I used "dbassist" to create a database. Then the "ORA-01034: Oracle not available" appeared.
I also tried to install Oracle with "Typical" option that is suppose to create the initial database for me. It also failed. The same error appeared when the 'Database Configuration Tools' were trying to create the database files. -
ORA-01034 "ORACLE not available" error
I've installed oracle8i expert edition on Solaris but I can't start up the database. I keep getting this "ORA-01034 ORACLE not available" error message. I've followed the instructions associated with this error but so far to no avail. Please help me.
MohamedHi FK,
On Windows, it can sometimes mean that the services are not running. I have a check here:
http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_check_verify_windows_services.htm
Have you tried using oradim?
http://www.dba-oracle.com/tips_oradim_utility.htm
The oradim utility provides more than just the ability to start and stop Windows databases. Windows oradim can create and edit databases. It also allows DBAs to configure script-based installation mechanisms.
The oradim utility is used on the Windows platform to perform these tasks.
C:\oracle9i\bin\oradim -startup -sid ORCL92 –usrpwd manager
-starttype SRVC,INST -pfile C:\oracle9i\admin\ORCL92\pfile\init.ora
• startup – Indicates that the specified instance should be started.
• sid – The SID of the database to start.
• usrpwd – The password for the database user.
• starttype – Specifies whether to start the instance, the service, or both
Hope this helps. . .

ERROR - ORA-01034: shared memory realm does not exist
Hallo!I am a newbie in Oracle in Linux.I have just installed Oracle 10g in Oracle Eenterprise Linux version 4 Update 7.The installation was successful and I could
work with sqlplus, isqlplus and Enterprise Manager. When I restarted my machine,I manually started the listener,OEM and isqlplus which started successfully.
However, when I try to log into OEM and isqlplus, the error message below appears
ERROR - ORA-01034: ORACLE not available ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
How do I resolve this?
Thanks.4joey1 wrote:

ERROR - ORA-01034: ORACLE not available ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory An Oracle instance consists of a number of Oracle server processes (the limbs) and a shared memory area (the brain). Each and every server process participating in that Oracle instance needs to attach to the shared memory area.
The error message you see, states that the server process (launched in order to service your sqlplus/OEM client), failed to find and attach to this shared memory segment.
Two basic reasons for the failure.
The Oracle instance is not running. There are no shared memory area and Oracle server processes running for that instance. Solution: start up the database instance.
The server process was launched with the incorrect parameters (ORACLE_SID specifically) and attempted to attach to shared memory that does not exist. Solution: review the TNS/JDBC parameters of the client connection and configuration of the Oracle Listener to ensure that a server process launched to service a client, does so with the correct parameters and environment. -

nullHi
Quick and dirty over view...You really need to read the
documentation.
Step 1. Prepare the init.ora file for the database...Read the
docs.
Step 2. Decide what to name your database and do so in init.ora.
Step 3. Prepare th sql to create the database.
Step 4. Now go to svrmgr and connect internal and starup the
instance.
Step 5. Create the database. A lot to do here...Read the docs.
Step 6. Now create users(schemas), tables, views, etc...

Errors ORA-01034, ORA-27101 and ORA-01033
Hi!
I have Oracle 9i DB and DevSuite 10g installed on my laptop. There are three databases on my machine.
Recently, I tried to install Oracle Discoverer 10g and that's where the problem started. I could no longer connect to the databse using either SQL*Plus, TOAD or even from the front end application.
I realised that some of the regisrty entries were no longer in place after the Discoverer installation. After doing these entries, I am still getting the following errors while connecting:
ORA-01034 : Oracle not available
ORA-27101 : Shared memory realm does not exist
After doing the following entries in the registry, for the default database, I'm getting the 'ORA-01033 : Oracle Initialization or shutdown in progress' error while connecting for that particular db:
ORACLE_SID=DTA
ORA_DTA_AUTOSTART=TRUE
ORA_DTA_SHUTDOWN=TRUE
ORA_DTA_SHUTDOWN_TIMEOUT=30
ORA_DTA_SHUTDOWNTYPE=i
And for the other two DBs, the errors ORA-01034, ORA-27101 remain the same.
Can anyone please help?
Best regards,
AparnaHave you checked your Windows services for the Oracle instances? Started and set to auto-start on boot.
Also check your $path variable to make sure the Oracle home(s) appear in the path

but why do i have the MTS_DISPATCHERS paramenter if i set dedicated server mode? i guess i don't need MultiThreading...
anyway, are the semmsl, semmni, semmns parameters correctly configured? i rememeber i had a similar error and these parameters were to set correctly to make it work, but this time i can't find out the point!!!
please, it's very urgent...
thankx a lot!
mattei'm installing a new instance, so i don't need neither to set ORACLE_SID, nor to connect to db. i mean... i give my oracle sid in the GUI of the dbassist.
then it's supposed to set it and connect to the instance by its own. the point is that when it tryes the connect internal, it fails.
i bet the trouble is in the /etc/system parameters, but i don't know exactly where.... -

SEVERE:
Database instance is unavailable. Fix the ORA error thrown and run EM Configuration Assistant again.
Some of the possible reasons may be :
1) Database may not be up.
2) Database is started setting environment variable ORACLE_HOME with trailing '/'. Reset ORACLE_HOME and bounce the database.
For eg. Database is started setting environment variable ORACLE_HOME=/scratch/db/ . Reset ORACLE_HOME=/scratch/db and bounce the database.Ok, I'm brain dead and open for suggestions.Ed, can you try creating a db with the DBCA and the option for EM selected? I know its not a solution but at least that would tell us whether EM is capable of being created on the box or not at all?

Urgent! Error: ORA-01034 Oracle not available for Oracle10gi
I have used SQL*Plus for a while, but recently when I try to login there is this error message:
Error:
ORA-01034 ORACLE not available
ORA-27101 shared memory realm does not exist
I had search for the solution quite a while. I changed the "sqlnet.ora" from C:\OraHome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN
I changed SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=NT; to SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=NONE and then reboot the machine.
The weird thing is that sometimes it works after I reboot the machine, but recently this just doesn't work any more. The SQL*Plus generates the same error message as I wrote above.
It seems like this kind of problem has troubled lots of oracle database users. IS this a bug that exists in the Oracle10gi?
Or does Oracle10gi require to run on certain operating system platform like Windows XP Professional but does not support for Windows XP Home Edition?
Can the Oracle company provide some error solution guide for the public for their own system?
many thanksNo this specific error message is not a result of an Oracle bug to my knowledge.
In my experience it is a simple matter of not using Oracle correctly. Only it is not that simple from a pure end-user perspective as Oracle is not a mickey mouse little filing system that pretends to be a database (like MS Access).
Which makes sense. After all, driving a bicycle does not mean one is able to get on a superbike. And if you respond "what!! why is it a superbike!?" then you need a bicycle in the first place.
The cause of the error you list - the client is making a local IPC dedicated server connection to the Oracle instance. This fails as the dedicated server cannot find the Oracle SGA (shared memory area) to attached to. This is usually the result of
a) the Oracle instance is down (and thus the SGA does not exist)
b) the ORACLE_SID used by the client is incorrect (and thus it attempts to attach to a non-existant SGA)
Reason (a) could be caused by some underlaying issue that results in the Oracle instance shutting down automatically or unintentionally.
As for what Oracle 10G requires operating system wise. There are detailed platform certification matrixes on the Oracle web site. In addition, the INSTALLATION notes of Oracle also specifies what platforms are supported.
You also fail to mention the exact Oracle product you're running. Oracle XE is different than Oracle Standard Edition which is different than Oracle Enterprise Edition.
There is btw a dedicated support forum here for Oracle XE - and this one ain't it. -

ORA-01034: ORACLE not available error while creating ASM or database
Hi all,
I am using oracle database 10gR2 on windows 2000 pro system.
I have Installed oracle software and there was no issue with that but now I am facing ORA-01034: ORACLE not available error while trying to create asm instance or even while creating database through dbca.
I have tried creating the asm instance manually and it was succeeded. Also database creation was successful through manual steps.
Any idea guys?? How to resolve this issue??Hi FK,
On Windows, it can sometimes mean that the services are not running. I have a check here:
http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_check_verify_windows_services.htm
Have you tried using oradim?
http://www.dba-oracle.com/tips_oradim_utility.htm
The oradim utility provides more than just the ability to start and stop Windows databases. Windows oradim can create and edit databases. It also allows DBAs to configure script-based installation mechanisms.
The oradim utility is used on the Windows platform to perform these tasks.
C:\oracle9i\bin\oradim -startup -sid ORCL92 –usrpwd manager
-starttype SRVC,INST -pfile C:\oracle9i\admin\ORCL92\pfile\init.ora
• startup – Indicates that the specified instance should be started.
• sid – The SID of the database to start.
• usrpwd – The password for the database user.
• starttype – Specifies whether to start the instance, the service, or both
Hope this helps. . .

Database connection error ORA-01034 oracle not available
Hi
Can some one help me out from this probs. I have a oracle8.15 enterprize edition running on solaris 5.6. It's been running fine since few months from deffent clients. But today its giving ORA-01034 error when i try to connect to database from cliend side. I found that database is up and running and we can access it on server. But from client i am getting the above error. Oracle documentation shows " The operating system variable pointing to the instance is improperly defined".
I would aprreciate if some body helps out of this problem.
Thanks in advance
K. SrinivasHi,
Oracle uses the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID variables to create a unique shared memory hash key for each instance.
This problem can happen if your environment variables are set differently when the database is started compared to the user who is getting the error. The error indicates that the executable (sqlplus, svrmgrl) can't find the shared memory segment, which means that the ORACLE_HOME variable is not set correctly somewhere.
Bye,
atul
