Solution Manager on 32-Bit for ECC-6

Hi Gurus,
We need to bring our 32-Bit ECC-6 system on EhP4 as soon as possible.
From installtion documents I found that its two step installation. First install EhP3 and then EhP4 using SAINT.
To install EhP we need use Solution Manager. Currently we dont have Solution Manager installed. Our first step would be installing Solution Manager. There are two options available:
1. SAP Solution Manager 7.0 including SAP Enhancement Package 1.
2. SAP Solution Manager 7.0.
As everywhere its written we can not install solution manager on 32-bit but some some threads say we can do.
Confirm that Solution Manager 7 cannot be installed on a 32-bit windows sys
Assuming that we can still install Solution manage on 32 bit, first we need to install EhP3, which solution manager version should we use 1 or 2?
Thanks in advance

Hi Shreeshail,
Please use opton 1. This way you can choose to install either EHP3 or EHP4 (as your case maybe).
Also, you wouldn't need to upgrade solman to ehp1, as ehp1 comes with a lot of corrections which otherwise you will have to manually implement on a Solution Manager 7.0 system.

  • Does Solution Manager support Service Report for non-abap?

Does Solution Manager support Service Report for non-abap?
We can schedule and view reports for ABAP but for all the non-ABAP such as J2EE stack (PORTAL) we can not pull out a report.
If the answer is yes please let me know where I can get the documentation of how to setup SLA for PORTAL or non-ABAP.
I found a document on EWA non-abap but non for SLA.

    Hi
actually i am in task of setting up ewa for portal.
i had already done with abap components (ewa and sla)
i stronly believe one of the pre-requiste to get sla is EWA.
so i think if u can setup ewa for portal then you can get sla too.

  • What can Solution Manager 7.0 provide for PI 7.1?

I work with PI 7.1 EHP 1 and have been asked to determine if time/resource should be invested to setup Solution Manager 7.0 EHP 1 to provide monitoring/management of PI. I attended SAP TechEd 2011, and there was a lot of discussion that SM 7.1 would be a significant part of monitoring for PI 7.3. However, since I'm not on those platforms, can you help me understand what SM 7.0 can provide me as a PI Administrator/Support over what I use now (Runtime Workbench & SXMB_MONI)?
The Solution Manager resource on the BASIS team mentioned that SM takes a lot of configuration and I'd have to learn about Business Process Management to make it do anything useful. What I saw at TechEd showed a nice start page that showed data volume, errors, and nice graph. Perhaps that is only for SM 7.1, but it seemed like a nice data view capability.

    Hello Tadd,
Wily Introscope will provide you with nice (also real-time if you want) metrics for your PI system (dashboards). You can check for some details here:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/f0b96675-87cf-2c10-b489-dee0ac03f782
Solution Manager requires additional steps in order to be able to configure this monitoring scenario. Once your solution manager is installed and running you have to perform initial configuration -> basic configuration -> managed system configuration
In the last step you'll actually configure diagnostics and willy for your PI system.
If the number of managed systems that you have to connect is small this "3 step" configuration can be done in a couple of weeks.

    Diego.

  • Solution Manager 4.0, waiting for response

    Hi,
I successfully installled SAP Solution Manager 4.0 with SAPDB and Windows 2003.
My problem: SAP System is running (looks all fine in sapmmc), but if I connted to the system with SAP GUI I get the message "waiting for response..." . This message is still there after one hour. So the logon isn't successful, any help?
    Thanks.

    Hi Andreas,
from the DB perspective, please take a look into the SAP DB knldiag file (found in the Rundirectory of the DB). You can run 'xinstinfo <DB-SID>' from the commandline to find out the path of your Rundirectory.
For example, maybe your SAP DB instance's log is full.
Additionally, I'd take a look into the workprocess trace files (on the R/3 - application- side) to see if there are any errors there.

  • Connect Solution Manager to which client for SMD

    Hi all,
do I have to connect the solution manager to the productive client of the sat. system?
We have systems with more than one productive client. Can we connect the SDM to more than one client? How can we do this?
    Thank you
    Timm Funke

    Hi,
thank you for this quick response!
So it is possible to configure the landscap with client 000.
Then, when all sat. systems are working fine within SMD, I can configure the producitve clients in smsy (the rfc destinations to the producitve clients). then I can access these clients from SMD.
    Is this right?
    Kinde regards

    Hi Vladimir
It is possible to use Sol Man as your User Data Source.

  • Is Solution Manager required for ECC 6.0 upgrade?

We will upgrade our system from 4.7 to ECC 6.0.  Is Solution Manager a required tool in ECC 6.0?  My understanding is Solution Manager has to be run on a different server, ie.  we will have to buy a new server.   We have a small SAP implementation with only FI & CO modules, so we are trying to cut our costs if we could.  Can anybody share their experience?  Thanks for any input.

In an Upgrade , Solution Manager is required for Upgrade Keys and downloading the support packs . Now a days to download the support packs you have to approve it in Solution Manager otherwise it won't show up in your download basket.
May be SAP can provide you the keys & approve the SPs ( they used to do that before ) , in that case it isn't required.
You can also manage your upgrade project in Solman . Sooner or later you need to install solution manager. it's a nice system. Many good features like central monitoring, early watch alert etc etc ...
    Thanks

  • Solution Manager Key for EP '04 - EP 2004s

Well, we just started the upgrade of our EP '04 SP18 to EP 2004s ST11. However, the PREPARE is rejecting the Solution Manager Key (generated in SSM 3.2). We came across OSS Note 811923 which says:
For SAP ERP 2004 (SAP ECC 5.0), you require SAP Solution Manager 3.1 with Support Package 20, or SAP Solution Manager 3.2 with Support Package 4. You can also use SAP Solution Manager 4.0.
For products of SAP Business Suite 2005 (including SAP NetWeaver 2004s), you require at least SAP Solution Manager 4.0 with Support Package 9.
I guess we are hosed up until we upgrade our Sap Solution Manager system to 4.0. Does anyone know a work-around for this?
    thanks in advance,
    Steven McElwee, Duke University

    Hi Steven,
    Not sure of any workaround for it but you have a couple of options;
    1) Install a new solution manager 4.0 as a temporary work around to get a valid key
    2) Raise an OSS message to request support to assist you.
Solution manager is really now a required utility system for your core apps. Even after you have the migration key it is likely that post migration you will have issues that may require patches from the service market place. As of April 2nd this year you need solution manager (4.0) Diagnostics for this.
For these reasons I would urge you to move to Solution Manager 4.0 sooner rather than later.
    Cheers

  • SAP_APPL for solution manager

    Hi all,
we tried for the integration of ECATT with QTP, and we used solution manager for ECATT execution.
we found that QTP is not started from Solman as we miss the component SAP_APPL in solution manager but is present in ECC system.
For this integration to happen, can we install SAP_APPL in solman.
    Kindly advice,
    Thanks,
    Subhashini.

    Hi all,
The Automation is achieved...by making an entry in the SOLE transaction for the automation.
there is no requirement for SAP_APPL component.
    I am closing the thread.

  • Connection Between Solution Manager and ECC

    Dear Techies,
I would like to install SAP Solution Manager in one laptop and ECC on another laptop. Both the laptops have very good configuration in terms of operating system (both have server editions) , RAM ( 8GB each) and Hard Drive ( 600 GB each). Once the installation is completed, is there any way that I can establish connection between both the laptops over the same internet/wifi ? I would like to ensure connection is established successfully and data transfer is happening between both the systems. Many thanks for your answers in advance.

  • Solution Manager 32 bit or 64 bit

    Hi,
My company will soon be starting an ERP 2004 upgrade and we are installing Solution Manager on a separate Windows server as part of this. We will be installing 64 bit ERP 2004 on a UNIX platform so my question is, does it matter whether we install 32 bit or 64 bit Solution Manager? Are there any problems running a 32 bit installation of Solution Manager against a 64 bit installation of ERP 2004?
My gut feeling is that there won't be an issue, but I would appreciate confirmation of this.
Thanks in advance for any information.
    Rob Davis.
    SAP Configuration Manger.

    Hi Rob,
You can install the Solution Manager either 32 bit or 64 bit based on your hardware (for example if you decide to install Solution manager on unix server 64 bit kernel, then you have to go for Solution Manager 64 bit).
It doesn't matter which Solution Manager(i.e either 32 bit or 64 bit version) you are using for monitoring either 32 bit or 64 bit satellite systems (here 'satellite system' means the system either ERP 2004 or any system which you are going to monitor thru your Solution Manager)
    Hope this clarrifies your question

There is no "message inbox" in satellite systems, but you can use the SAP Solution Manager to have a central access to all reported messages.
Configure Work Center "Incident Management" in SAP Solution Manager and grant access for message reporters.
See answers to similar question in accessing the service desk message from satellite system
