[Solution] No audio with AirPlay on startup (untitled, unknown artist, unknown album)

I have the problem of airplay not playing audio on startup.
While apple TV is in standby mode, if I connect my iPod touch or iTunes to
apple TV using airplay, no audio will come out from my TV nor speakers.
Music information displayed on TV will be untitled, unknown artist, unknown album
while this problem is happening.
I bet everyone's apple TV have same problem if you updated your upple TV to latest version.
I contacted apple support regarding this problem.
They actually tested airplay using new apple TV hardware they own.
They told me that their apple TV has same problem exactly as I told them.
But...they are not going to fix this problem!!!
Only 4 people total reported this probem to apple support including myself.
They will need more people who report this problem to make new update.
So, I need your help. please report this problem to apple support.
Here's the link.

Not sure if this is related but I am going to post a response for similar problems that might help other folks. When my Airplay came through with no sound, I went to Settings, General, then Restart (at the very bottom). Then waited a few seconds for the tv to reset itself. Airplay streamed with sound after that.
Today, I got that display you mentioned "Untitled, Unknown Artist, Unknown Album." All my panels disappeared, the screen was totally dark except for that "Untitled..." message which just kept flipping back and forth. The tv seemed stuck in a loop, unresponsive to the remote control. The solution to this is to unplug the power cord to your apple box for 3-5 seconds then plug it back in. You should then see the apple icon reappear on your tv as it resets itself and all your panels (apps) should return.

  • No audio with airplay

My Apple TV was working fine yesterday, but today it will not play audio when I try to watch streaming video via AirPlay on my MBP.  I can use AirPlay from iTunes on my MBP and can hear the audio when I play music, but still no luck with sound while streaming video.

I found out that the built in firewall interferes with AirPlay (which I know is weird).
Try turning the OS X firewall off using System Settings -> Security. If AirPlay now works, turn on the firewall and add "coreaudio" to the list of exceptions. This worked for me.
By the way, Coreaudio is the OS X system driver for audio.

  • Why am I only receiving audio with AirPlay and the NFL Ticket App?

Having trouble getting a picture via AirPlay with the DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket App.  I am sure there will be many disappointed NFL fans.

Not all apps are enabled for video airplay. It is up to each developer to do so. I suggest contacting them if you would like it addressed.

  • I have several problems with Airplay since iOS8.

I have an iPhone 6, iPad Air, AppleTV and a Sony airplay speaker. Since iOS 8 none of the combinations is working fine.
iPhone - AppleTV: music stops after 1 second
iPhone - Sony: connects, but not playing. After rechoosing the internal iPhone speaker music doesn't play either
iPad - AppleTV: music stops after 1 second
iPad - Sony: music is playing but stops when the display turns off
Any idea how I could fix this?

    Hey mizant,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with AirPlay. The following resource may provide a solution:

  • Annoying audio delay with AirPlay

I'm very displeased to report that there's a tiny (and yet extremely annoying) delay in the audio played from a Sony Home Theather HT-CT150 connected via HDMI to an Apple TV with AirPlay compared to the sound from my iMac.  I've tried changing all the settings possible on the HT-CT150 to no avail and so, ridiculously, I had to connect the HT-CT150 to my AirPort Express from which standard RCA cables come out for a perfectly in-sync sound experience.  Conclusion, it is the HT-CT150 processing time that creates the delay and there isn't anything I can do about it and so my only option is to find a way to make my iMac to delay its sound somehow so I can adjust it to what I need.
Obviously I don't want to have both the Apple TV and the AirPort Express connected to the HT-CT150 when one device should be able to handle the task.  Is there any app (in our outside the Mac App store) that can help me accomplish that?
Thanks in advance for all the help you can provide!

I have the same problem. The first second or so is missing. It happens because my receiver has to "tune" in to the PCM signal. In the mean while my ATV is allready transmitting/playing the song and my receiver is still triyng to figure out what kind off signal is coming in, causing it to skip the first second of each song. Possible solutions are to let ATV wait with playing the song, wich involves some sort off handshaking between my receiver, my ATV end itunes. An other solution could be to put one second of "silence" in front of every song, so my receiver has time to sync to the PCM signal. Both of wich i don't know how to implement. I find it strange that my receiver has to sync to the PCM signal at the start of every song. Why does ATV not keep the PCM signal intact instead of dropping it between songs? My receiver is a Philips model. The problem does not occer when playing music via the iPad. Very annoing problem.

After recent upgrade to Yosemite on Macbook air bluetooth audio cuts out and associated video stops with audio. Likewise with airplay and Apple TV. I have deleted all my saved wifi connections and restarted numerous times. I do not expect a resolution from the community, but hope to get the attention of Apple engineers. If you are having same problems or have a miracle cure I am all ears.

May start my own thread, but I'm having similar issues.
I've been using an old iMac (running 10.7.5) and Apple TV for years with no issues. Last week I bought a new Macbook Pro running Yosemite and have had audio issues multiple times. The weird thing is that sometimes it works flawlessly, other times (like now) I spend half an hour just trying to get a song to play.
My issues are: When I got to "computers" in Apple TV to stream my music, my music is sometimes chopper or intermittent, and I seen to know when it's going to happen based on the status wheel just before it plays. When I choose a song, the status wheel will spin for an unusually long time, usually an indicator that the audio is either not going to work, or stutter.
When it does finally pull up a song, the playhead sits at the beginning of the song for a good 3-5 seconds before actually playing. Then, when it starts playing, it's all downhill. It will play a few seconds, drop out, play a few more seconds, drop out, and then ultimately the playhead will keep moving across the song as if it's playing, but there's no audio.
Again, this is a new phenomenon never experienced by me. I've tried everything I could think of, some of them all at once:
    • restart Apple TV
    • restart Macbook Pro
    • quite iTunes/open
    • turn off Home Sharing on iTunes then reconnect it
    • unplugging and cycling both my modem and router
None of these have alleviated the problem.
The odd thing is, like this morning, the audio started up perfectly and never gave me any issues. It wasn't until later in the day that it started. Perhaps after the macbook pro had been put to sleep? Not sure.
Regardless, this is an annoying trait, one that's new to me and my system (as stated, worked flawlessly until my new purchase), and is 100% limited to either a) the macbook pro b) Yosemite or c) both of them.

Amazon Prime reply app does not allow video airplay - nor do several other content providers.
It must have something to do with digital rights/copyright.

  • Yosemite issues with Airplay (audio and video stuttering)

I have two very annoying issues with Airplay after upgrading to OS Yosemite (these issues were non-existent with the OS Maverciks) -
    1. Periods of Image and audio stuttering lasting approximately 20 seconds, coming on and off at regular and frequent intervals,
    2. It is virtually impossible to disconnect the airplay from the Apple TV by selecting "disconnect airplay display" - one needs to restart the machine to disconnect.
The configuration I am using includes the latest release of Apple TV (with latest software), the latest Airport Extreme  (with latest software) and the 2013  iMac with the latest OS - Yosemite. I would like to reiterate there was no image and video choppiness / stuttering issue with Macericks. A serach for the stuttering issue shows it was reported by other users as well (following upgrade to the official Yosemite) and was first reported by a number of users during the beta testing of Yosemite.
I would appreciate your advice how to fix the issue.

Hold down the menu and down buttons on the apple TV remote for 6 seconds. It worked for me.
I must admit to be getting a little tired of finding workarounds to Apple's glitches. I now spend hours searching the net to find out how to get their products to do what they say they will.
    Remember when things just worked?

  • HT204291 Cannot get audio on hbogo app with airplay

Unlike most users of hbogo with airplay I get video but no audio when streaming to my 3d generation apple tv.  I have tried every speaking setting I could find on the
TV but to no avail.  I am trying to use the TV speakers because there are no external speakers attache.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
        1.    Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
        2.    Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
        3.    Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
        4.    Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
        5.    Restart your router.
        6.    Restart your mobile device.

  • With Airplay, is it possible to send audio, when mirroring, to Airplay-enabled speakers?

When mirroring an iMac onto a TV using Airplay via Apple TV, is it possible to send the audio to Airplay enabled speakers instead of using the TV's speakers? This potentially means that one could have surround sound whilst mirroring the screen onto the TV.
Thanks for any help in advance!

If the speakers are airplay enabled then you can just set the audio output via the Apple TV settings

  • Airplay audio to Airplay-enabled speaker.

Mountain Lion running with Airplay enabled to my iW1 speaker (not mirroring to appletv, just audio) There is a delay in the audio. There was never a delay pre-ML from iTunes to the iW1. Is this a bug? Do I have to change a setting? Or is this just how it is?

Thanks Rudegar for the response. I was already afraid that Apple TV won't be of any help.
Is there no solution for getting an audio-stream into the "airplay-system", e.g. by using another apple device?

  • Why can't itunes stream movie audio over airplay?

This is more a suggestion to Apple engineers rather than a request for assistance but any comments in support (or otherwise) are welcome.
So, it goes like this, I use my iMac as my TV, entertainment centre, etc at home and I stream audio from there to an Airport Express hooked up to my stereo. Using Airplay in iTunes and third party apps like Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil this works for just about anything: my music library, live TV through EyeTV and non DRM movies...but I like to download rental movies from iTunes and for some reason I can't stream audio from iTunes movies. I understand that this is a documented limitation of iTunes and Airplay, and there can be some issues with audio and video getting out of sync due to the buffering, but if Airfoil can do it, why not iTunes? The Airfoil video player is pretty basic, but it compensates for the buffering delay without any problems, and I can even use VLC to manually add a delay into the video track.
Would it be possible to include this as part of a future iTunes update? I mean, I'd much rather rent movies legitimately through iTunes than resort to other more nefarious means to be able to enjoy watching movies on my Mac. What's more, I have this pathological antipathy toward hooking things up with cables, so Airplay is the perfect solution for me and loads of other people as well, I'm sure.
So come on Apple, show you really do care about Airplay and let iTunes stream the movie audio so that I can enjoy my entertainment in High Fidelity.
    Thanks,
    Joe.

    Well, here's some good news!
Looks like a feature of Mountain lion that didn't make the front page solves my problem. To get movie audio over Airplay, on OSX 10.8 go to Audio and MIDI Setup app, make sure you have the Audio Setup window open (Window - Show Audio Window) and if your Airport or other Airplay device is online it should appear in the list of audio IO devices on the left hand side.
Right click on the Airplay icon and select "Use this Device For Sound Output" and away you go. iTunes (10.7 at least) seems to be smart enough to realise that it is playing audio to a streaming device and buffers the video accordingly. Viola! Glorious hifi sound sans wires.

  • Any app audio through Airplay no longer works on ipad2 after 5.1.1 update. Working Airplay on my iphone.

I have a working Airplay connection to my Pioneer VSX-1021 Receiver. My iPhone 3GS and iTunes on my PC connect and send audio with no issues.
On the ipad2 through the music app for instance, I am able to select the Receiver as an Airplay destination but the blue Airplay icon soon goes white and it defaults back to iPad. The scrub bar and time counter never advance. Similar results with Garage Band. Settings on ipad and iphone are the same.
I have noticed this since upgrading to 5.1.1 but it could have been this way prior to the upgrade.
    Any ideas?

Honestly, this is a WAG but try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • No audio with video in itunes

Hi, no matter what I do, the audio won't play with the video when in itunes, regardless if it's a file I converted to m4v or if it's a video file I purchased and downloaded from the itunes music store like "alias" episodes OR if I'm just previewing streaming music videos from the itunes music store...no audio period. The purchased downloads that are synched to my ipod will play the audio with the video on the ipod and the mp3 songs play fine within itunes and the ipod, just the audio for the video doesn't seem to work at all. Any help here?
