SOLUTION (Potential) iTunes Hangs when Connecting iPhone or iPad - Win 7 64 bit

Ever since upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit, I have had an issue with iTuneshanging EVERY TIME when I connect my iPhone 4 or iPad 2 (iTunes Version on myPC is 10.2.2.12) - it will not respond until I disconnect the device theniTunes works again, until a plug in a device..... very frustrating as I can'tsync my devices.
I may have found a solution online and present it here in hopes that ithelps others with this issue (And based on a Google search, there are MANY,MANY others having the same issue).
"Run iTunes "As Administrator" every time you openit. - To do this, right click on the iTunes icon on the desktop and choose"Run As Administrator" - you should only need to do this once and itwill remember the setting."
I did this and now when I launch iTunes from the Desktop Icon Windows givesa pop-up saying "Are you sure you want to run this program asAdministrator" - I just say yes and iTunes opens, it recognizes my devicesand syncs without any issues, I have been running like this for 6 days nowsyncing both devices multiple times without issue.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, it certainly does.
My iTunes has this exact problem with my 3GS, which only started since the last itunes / iOS upgrade.
Initially I got it working by changing the sync cable's usb port, but this isn't very reliable.
Your solution however works perfectly.

  • Itunes crashes/hangs  when connecting iphone!

Hi, I wasn't sure if this was supposed go into the itunes forums so please excuse...
When I connect my iphone to my itunes it simply 'hangs' It doesn't actually crash with an error, I just can't can't select anything in itunes or scroll or anything. If I then disconnect my iphone, itunes works normal again. If my iphone is connected and I start itunes, itunes won't start. The moment I disconnect my iphone, itunes pops up immediately. I tried connecting my iphone to other pc's and laptops. Some display the same problem and others don't. I've been to apple and to T-mobile (I'm in the netherlands) and they won't give me a new phone because they can't find the problem.
I have to close Itunes via the taskmanager and re-open itunes ranging from 3-25 times before I get lucky and itunes starts, recognizes my iphone and works properly.
At first I thought that it could have been my computer but when I connect my ipod nano, itunes works just fine. I tried formatting my windows xp, different chipset drivers for my motherboard etc, none of them worked. I tried different version of itunes, different iphone firmwares, I restored a couple of times and none of it worked. I recently updated my firmware to 3.0 hoping it would solve the problem but to no avail. I tried different cables (iphone and ipod nano) and this doesn't work either. I tried different usb ports and no luck either.
The problem DEFINITELY lies with the Iphone!
This is bugging the **** out of me and I've been dealing with it for WEEKS, but I can't find the solution.
Help me please because I'm getting desperate and just want to through the phone out the window.

  • Latest iTunes Hanging when connecting iPad 2 and iPhone 4

    Hi,
I have an iMac running OSX. I have updated both mavericks and Itunes to the lastest updates. When using itunes it will start fine. Then when connecting either ipad or iphone, itunes then hangs with the spinning circle. I have left this for well over 2 hours now. The only way out is to quit itunes. I have tried the iTunes help but with no sucess as yet.
I have created a new user and the problem does diappear.,so its not an ipad/iphone or mac issue. I have tried removing my library and then connecting a device but iTunes does the same thing. I am guessing something within my Mac user profile is stopping it.
Please help, its driving me mad.
P.S I also have a mac book which is working fine.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • ITunes Freezes when connecting iPhone (AppleMobileDeviceHelper/SyncServer to blame?)

I'm having several issues with iTunes and connecting my phone.  iTunes becomes unresponive for about 30 mins when either connecting my iPhone (via cable or seeing it over WiFi when WiFi-sync is enabled), pressing sync, or sometimes other tasks which relate to the device.  While frozen, iTunes continues playing the current track until the end, then it won't start the next one until it becomes responsive again.
I think I've tracked down the error; I noticed that iTunes has a child process called "AppleMobileDeviceHelper", terminating this causes iTunes to resume (although it won't sync the device anymore until it restarts).  Upon further investigation, I looked at which files AppleMobileDeviceHelper was using, and found the "syncservices.log" log in ~/Library/Logs/Sync/.  Looking at the log, it was clear something wrong was going on since the following lines were being added to it every few seconds:
    2012-01-25 22:51:21:640|SyncServer|40031|0x10b016e50|Logging|Info| Logging initialized, engine version 673.3 : log level 3
    2012-01-25 22:51:21:645|SyncServer|40031|0x10b016e50|SQLite|Error| Detected out-of-space situation: 0 (Undefined error: 0). 786713006080 bytes free in Robert.
2012-01-25 22:51:22:339|AppleMobileDeviceHelper|36432|0x35de40|Mingler|Error| failed to connect to the server: NSInvalidReceivePortException connection went invalid while waiting for a reply because a mach port died
2012-01-25 22:51:22:876|AppleMobileDeviceHelper|36662|0x388730|Mingler|Error| failed to connect to the server: NSInvalidReceivePortException connection went invalid while waiting for a reply because a mach port died
I couldn't find a process called "SyncServer", I'm guessing it failed to start due to being unable to start SQLite, which is why ApplyMobileDeviceHelper is presumably unable to connect to it, just after.  The SQLite error complains of apparently not having enough space, although as you can see I have over 780GB free, and there's plenty of free space on my iPhone, too.
Does anyone have any idea why these errors might be happening?  I've seen people report similar issues (and that iTunes normally resolves itself after a while), although it's not fixed it for me (as I have to do that everytime), and I've found nothing searching for the errors in that log.
    Late 2008 15" MacBook Pro 2.8 Ghz, 10.7.2, iTunes 10.5.3, iPhone 4 running 5.0.1
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

After some extensive digging around, I've been able to fix this problem by trashing the "SyncServices" folder in ~/Library/Application Support.
I tried running SyncDiagnostics.app, which I found in the same directory as SyncServer.app (which I found through spotlight).  That froze, so I killed it, and then I found a support document pointing me to a perl script to run (on step 10).  That also failed, but it revealed the SyncServices folder and its location, so after closing applications which appeared to be failing because of SyncServer (the perl script, SyncDiagnostics.app, Mail, iTunes), I trashed the folder and restarted.  And then it all worked!

How do I uninstall iTunes to then enable me to reinstall to see if that helps?
If not, any other advise appreciated

    Hello Linc
I've done all that, and iTunes still hangs as soon as I plug in my phone.

  • Itunes hangs when connecting ipod touch

Hi there, I'm hoping someone can point me in the rightdirection here as this is driving me up the wall.
So basically in my family I have an iphone and the wifean ipod and for ages now they have worked no problem at all. The other day thewife wants me to sync her ipod and when i try and do so it wants updating so ilet it do its thing and thought that was it. Once it was finished i had aproblem whereby whenever you plugged any of the two devices in windows wouldn'tsee them and itunes would just hang and do nothing like it was thinking indefinitely.Weirdly, as soon s you disconnect either device, itunes and windows behaves asnormal.
So i done a bit of reading and one suggestion was todisconnect your internet so i did so and everything worked again, got her ipodsynced and thought all was good. Then the same problem again 10 minutes laterand this time disconnecting he internet makes no difference.
So next suggestion was to stop the apple service so donethat and again everything worked great but as soon as i took her ipod out andreconnected it, nothing! And now, like before if i stop the service and restartit now doesn't make a difference.
Now weirdly my iphone now having done all this worksfine, i can connect it, itunes sees it and it syncs, but her ipod doesnt, youplug it in, windows doesnt seem to see it although it does charge. But itunesjust sits there and hangs. So no matter what i do i cant seem to get it tosync.
    Any ideas?

I've been  through all the points listed in the support pages about what to do if youre computer cant see itunes, so any other ideas?

  • Itunes hangs when connecting ipod nano 5g

I have iTunes 9 and a ipod nano 5g. When I connect the ipod to my mac, ITunes just hangs.
OSX recognizes the ipod, so I think the cable and usb port are just working fine.
I already did a rebuild of the itunes lib.
Anybody an idea how to resolve the problem?

  • ITunes Freezes when connecting iphone 4 or ipad to my Vista computer

Everything had been working just fine on my Vista PC up until the new Itunes update was installed. Now, whenever connecting either of my devices, an iPhone 4 or my iPad 64GB 3G, the device appears on the left column in iTunes, but nothing updates, and not only does iTunes freeze, but the entire computer becomes largely unresponsive. (I can move the pointer, but that's about it.) Task manager cannot be activated by Ctrl-Alt-Del, and I need to do a hard shutdown of the computer.
I have tried disabling and (briefly) uninstalled my antivirus and firewall software, subsequent to scanning for viruses and malware (McAfee). I tried removing the library files, in case some aspects of the library became corrupted. I have also examined the support forums and tried some suggestions, but the problem remains.
The only recent change to my computer has been the iTunes update (unless Windows Vista updated in the background, not sure...)
iTunes itself seems to work just fine, so long as I don't attempt to connect a device to it.
    Help! Thanks in advance everyone...

Thanks, but this had no impact on the problem. And the "repair" feature didn't seem to do anything.
Would appreciate knowledgeable of the extent of this problem chiming in too - would love to hear if there are any workarounds.
Is there an easy way to get older versions of itunes? I'd like to try removing and reinstalling one of the older iterations of itunes that actually works.

  • (macOS X) itunes freezes when connecting iphone /ipad for syncing

itunes is slower than normal to open. I have installed all updates, restarted several times. tried deauthorising and authorising the computer. Can't do this with phone or ipad connected as I get the beach ball almost immediately.

I haven't tried this yet as I'm not sure how to do it or whether my back up will ensure that I don't lose my music. Sorry I am not well-versed in these things.
I have received a message just now that syncing is not enabled on this computer - and when I click to enable, it says it isn't possible?

  • ITunes freezing when connect iPhone

Hi, I'm running iTunes 11.2.1 on OS X 10.9.3 and since the latest iTunes update whenever I connect my iPhone 5 I just get the spinning wheel in iTunes and it freezes. Any ideas?

  • I-tunes gets hanged when connecting i-pad to 64 Bits Windows 7

    Hi,
I have both new I-Pad and I-Phone, but none of these appears in my i-tunes. In fact i-tunes get hanged and i can't perform any action. This issue i only face with 64 Bits Windows 7.
I request help in this regard.

    1. plug in IPAD
    2. go to start
    3. search bar type in: devmgmt.msc
    4. open: portable devices
    5. right click: apple Ipad, hit unistall
    6. then hit reinstall
you should see in bottom tool bar your device being reinstalled.
    open itunes.
If that doesn't work. Make sure you go in iTunes > Edit > Preferences > Devices and make sure to check: Prevent iPads, iPods, and iPhones from syncing automatically.
    Then try to connect again

  • ITunes 11.1 hangs when connecting to iCloud. How can I download 11.0.5?

Arrrrgh! iTunes 11.1 hangs on my system Windows 7 x64 when trying to connect to iCloud. It runs fine if I start it in safe mode (I have no third party plug-ins installed).
How do I download iTunes 11.0.5???? I've been searching on the Internt for the last 1/2 hour and it looks like Apple prevents users from downloading 11.0 once 11.1 (piece of crap) is out. WHY?????????

    Hi,
I've been able to resolve the problem of iTunes crashing by emptying the SycServices folder - by following the steps described at the foot of this comment. I've also been able to sync my iPhone contacts with my Address Book ...but I cannot sync my Address Book with Outlook 2011 ...  and thus my iPhone linking to Outlook 2011.
I'm aware that 'Sync Services' were depreciated in 10.8 and was hoping that this would be restored in full in v: 10.9.3. I understand that MicroSoft needs Sync Services to be reintroduced into the OS to enable the sync to work again for linking up with Outlook 2011 - which appear to be blank in my Sync Services preferences window as follows ....
I would be mighty grateful for any ideas/solutions on how to resolve this problem. Synching Outlook 2011 with my iPhone was so easy in the past!
    Simon
