SOLUTION TO LINUX INSTALL PROBLEMS

Browsing this forum, I noticed people are having trouble
installing Oracle on Linux. I saw this posted on Metalink, so I
am cutting and pasting:
Make sure you are running no earlier than jre 116 v5.
Also install from kde rather than gnome unless you have
installed the
gnome patch and finally run the runIns.sh in the install/linux
directory on the cd. Try it... Let's reach a consensus on what the best way to
install Oracle is...

  • Linux Install Problem

    Hello,
I hope I'm in the right forum.
I have tried a triple boot on my macbook (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP504)
    - extra partition for Win7 and Linux - installed rEFIt - Windows installation without problems.
    But the Linux install fails.
(Tried to install with openSuse 11.3) The CD booted normally. But after I clicked on the "install"-Button, a green screen appears and nothing moves. I've also tried to install Ubuntu (10.4 LTS) but after the CD booted, a black screen appears and the screen is frozen.
After that I decided to reinstall my OSX, perhaps it helps. But that doesn't solve the problem.
Sorry for my bad english. I hope you can help me,
    Max

Thanks for the reply. I figured it out on my own. Something to do with
specifying the directory or changing the current directory, I forget exactly which.

  • Linux install problem (UnsatisifiedLinkRrror)

    Installing on RH 6.2 weblogic 510 (SP4).
I get an exception at startup: UnsatisifiedLinkError: ...

I verified that $weblogic/lib/linux is in LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Anyone have an
idea where I may look? I have already installed the SP4 patch and tried
setting native IO to false, but the problem persists.
    Thanks!

I've unpacked with ./creator-2_1-linux-ml.bin -is:extract. Than i've installed patched jre from installation archive (1.4.2_04). Than i've lauched java -jar linux.jar. I've got welcome screen from installshield, i've pointed install directory and the Installshield failed. The message from log file:

  • Apple solution to iTunes install problem - More needed from Apple

Apple has published a fix for the problem arising from attempts to install the latest iTunes upgrade at http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3074.
In it they suggest the issue may be caused by a bad installation of a version of Microsoft's .NET Framework.
Find this somewhat preposterous for the simple reason that all was well until the attempt to load the new upgrade of iTunes.  For Apple's suggestion to hold true it can only mean that none of my other applications make any use of MS.NET Framework, which I very much doubt.
Performed the fix for Windows7 prescribed by Apple, namely downloaded and ran Microsoft's .NET Framework taking the 'Repair' option when prompted. When Repair completed successfully you have to shut down and restart Windows to make the repaired software available.  Did this and on restart lo and behold the R6034 message appeared again.
Did a search of the Registry for 'R6034' but not found.
Being unsure what was issuing the message deleted iTunes and restarted the system.
Again lo and behold the R6034 message appeared again.
Fortunately had been away from my computer for several weeks, and as the only upgrade actioned since my return was for iTunes carried out a System Restore.  This got rid of the R6034 message, everything worked fine, and when I shut down Microsoft automatically reinstalled all its upgrades after the Restore point.
Then moved to put back the iTunes upgrade prior to the current one.  ITunes stopped me in my tracks by halting the reinstall because "A later version of the program had been installed". Presume this was because iTunes detected from its records that I had actioned the latest upgrade
As I see the iTunes upgrade as the problem, I'm hoping firstly that someone from Apple will read this and:
1     provide more support than it has to date; and
2     allow those who want to pass on the upgrade reinstall the previous version of ITunes.
    Cheers.

Intresting notes... When you download album artwork from iTunes it really doesn't add it to the MP3 track, it stores it elsewhere and assoicates it internally some how to the album. Where as adding a artwork in through the actual file will change the size of your MP3 track, by embedding the artwork into it so that other apps (like windows media) can see them.
That would be an interesting find if that is indeed the case.... Furthermore if that solves the problem, than apple should have an easy fix on thier hands.
However, since most of my music is direct downloads from iTunes and has the artwork directly embedded into the music files like I mentioned above that might be why I've never encountered the issues.... As I found out about this quirk a while back, because some of the tracks on the PC or on my iPod would never show the album cover before...
Hopefully someone else with the same problem can help confirm this possible solution!

  • A solution for iTunes install problems

I upgraded to the latest ver of iTunes and immediately had ALL the problems posted all over the 'net.
The following is what worked for me.
BACKUP!!! Set a Restore Point. Back up your REGISTRY. It is critical that you back it up beforehand and use caution while cleaning it. Please do this in case everything goes T. U.
Remove all references to iTunes, iPod and Quick Time. There are literally thousands and you must get rid of all of them.
Find, download, install a copy of jv16 Power Tools.
    Then:
    1. BACKUP! Set Restore Point! Back up your Registry! Did I mention backing up?
1a. Be very careful cleaning out the Registry. Take your time. Go slowly. Make sure that what you delete is only iTunes-related. Check twice before deleting. Take. Your. Time.
1b. The Registry is your PCs mind; do not scramble it. You will be sad.
    2. Using jv16s Software Manager, uninstall iTunes, iPod and Quick Time.
    3. Using jv16s Registry Finder, one at a time, search for and delete ALL references to iPod, iTunes, Quick Time and Apple Computer (BE CAREFUL; it will give you references to various 'applets" and "appletalk"; do NOT delete those. Only Apple Computer stuff.)
    4. Using Microsofts Search function, search for all remaining references to iTunes, iPod, Apple Computer (leave applets alone) and most importantly-Quick Time.
    5. When you are certain that everything that says Apple Computer, Apple, iPod, iTunes and Quick Time exists no more on your PC, Reboot.
    6. Go to www.old-software.com and download an old copy of iTunes. The one that finally worked for me was iTunes v 6.0.5
    7. Install an old version of iTunes. DO NOT USE THE LATEST VERSION OF iTUNES! Thats what caused the problems in the first place.
    8. Reboot.
Even though you previously "uninstalled" iTunes, probably using the Add Remove Programs application in Control Panel, there remains behind thousands of pieces, parts and references to iTunes and Quick Time, in the Registry, TEMP files, Documents and Settings (Application Data and Local Settings), in Windows/system32 and a hundred other places. You gotta get rid of it all.
Quick Time seems to be the main culprit, but in the end I had to get rid of all traces of all of the Apple applications before I could install again and get it to work.
It took me 3 days to figure out this procedure but once I did, it took only an hour to do it.
I've seen a couple other procedures recently posted here that look good. If you are uncomfortable with going into the Registry, try one of those others first.
And fer cryin' out loud, Apple. Yank the latest version of iTunes off your site. I did a Google search for "iTunes installation problems" and came up with 700,000 hits. Do ya think you might have a problem?
Windows XP   Try testing your upgrades before releasing them!

Im trying your method right now, when im finished ill let you know how it worked out. I agree with your comment on apple needing to pull the latest version and get a version that actually works.

  • Solution Manager Diagnostics install problem

I am trying to install SMD on a NW04 SP16 system (also running ABAP+java for XI).  After deployment for the SP16 SMD version, when I log on to SMD admin screen, I cannot run the Upgrader - error indicates "cannot get the current version from ComponentInfoLib".  Also when I click on "Release Information", it also cannot display the current version.  I also tried to install the SMD version SP13 and SP14 with the same basic problem (it is not reading the version info).
Any idea on where I can look to resolve this problem.

  • Dual boot Windows 7 (64) and Arch Linux (64) problems

    Hello:
I am new to Arch Linux and just finished installing the 64bit on my laptop. It had a prebuilt Windows 7 (64) installed which I kept but split the hdd from 160Gb to 80Gb and 80Gb. I installed Arch there and set 4 partitions, all of them as Logical - a 64 MB ext2 /boot partition; a 512 MB swap partition; a 15 GB root partition; and the rest as my /home partition. My partitions look like this:
    Disk Drive: /dev/sda
    Size: 160041885696 bytes, 160.0 GB
Heads: 255 Sectors per Track: 63 Cylinders: 19457
Name Flags Part Type FS Type [Label] Size (MB)
    sda1 Primary Unknown (27) 12889.02
    sda2 Boot Primary NTFS 106.93
    sda3 Primary NTFS [] 73915.11*
    sda5 Logical Linux ext2 65.81*
    sda6 Logical Linux 509.97*
    sda7 Logical Linux ext2 15002.92*
    sda8 Logical Linux ext2 57549.55*
The install was succesful(this was running from the core install cd) and I installed GRUB to my /boot but when I restarted it loaded Windows 7. I have used Knoppix USB disc to boot and see my Arch Linux install files and edited the /boot/gur/menu.lst file.
In Windows I installed EasyBCD 1.7.2 and tried to get NeoGrub bootloader working as a dual boot. I tried getting rid of the boot flag for Windows with cfdisk and setting it to my (Logical) sda5. That did not work. So far the only way I have booted into my Arch Linux install has been by going to the Live CD, choosing "Boot from Existing Linux Install" and editing the command files there.
    root (hd0,4)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda3 ro
    initrd /kernel26.img
My goal is to get a dual boot working for Windows 7 and Arch Linux 64 and continue installing the Xorg and KDE to Arch. I just don't know what the problem is here. I don't mind reinstalling Arch if something went wrong, but I would like to keep my Windows running in order and add Arch on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I ran the LiveCD and chose "Install to MBR hd0". I ended up with this:
    setup hd(0,1)
    Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists.....yes
    Checking if "/boot/grub/iso9660_stage1_5" exists.....yes
Running "embed /boot/grub/iso9660_stage1_5 (hd0,1)".....failed(this is not fatal)
Running "embed /boot/grub/iso9660_stage1_5 (hd16)".....failed(this is not fatal)
    Running "install /boot/grub/stage1 d (hd0,1) /boot/grub/stage2 p (hd0,1) boot/grub/menu.lst".....failed
Error 31: File is not sector aligned
My entry for Windows into the menu.lst looks like this:

Buy my problem of camels Store Lee games possible solution for me my problem?

This worked for me, sort of. A while back when I downloaded that windows update that installed the new version of IE, I noticed that IE wouldn't connect to the internet and pages wouldn't load. However, I thought nothing of it because I use Firefox and FF was working just fine.
I went into IE earlier this evening (it still wasn't working) and tried to follow your recommended steps. I got up to step 4 and IE froze. I tried closing it, reopening it and repeating the steps but it would always freeze at step 4. In another thread, someone was saying that iTunes released a security update and that fixed the store for them so I tried opening Apple Software Update and that froze. I tried it several times, nothing. Would always freeze. I even tried updating thru iTunes and IT would freeze.
Finally, I went to the control panel and uninstalled IE7. The iTunes store and the Apple Software Update program are now working! So thank you very much for your suggestion. Otherwise, it may have never clicked with me that IE was the problem.

  • Solaris 10 install problem (requested image to big to fit into memory)

I have just downloaded the iso images and burned to disk. When I go to install I get the message (Requested image to big to fit into memory Error 28) I have 1.5GB so I don't understand the problem. Thanks in advance
It took a long time for me to figure out, but the answer is disable in BIOS memory hole at 15M to 16M. This solved the install problem with Open Solaris and quite a few more such as not being able to install Linux Zenwalk 5.0 or openSUSE 10.3. Their are others also problems I have had with Linux or UNIX that this took care of. JGZ
Edited by: jgz on Mar 8, 2008 9:13 PM

    Hi,
I had been able to solve the Error 28 issue that in my case was really related to a corrupted boot image:
    1. I went in the path /a/platform/i86pc
    2. rm boot_archive.
    3. sync
    4. reboot
At this point the OS will notice the absence of the boot_image and it will regenerate it.
At the time of this operation the CD with solaris 10 was inserted in the CDROM.
When the system restarted it was able to load the OS properly.
Please use these information at your own risk. I do not accept any liablity.
    Cheers

I am sorry, there is 3 million posts for blue tooth drivers and such for the E2, but, I dont have an E2 cant afford an E2 and will not be getting an E2...
and I am appalled that vista has been out for 2 years and there has been no solution to the driver problem with tungsten E?
Please tell me there is , as I promote Palm on my website, which gets many hits, I would want to go back and tell everyone to not bother getting a Palm product as it has problems with Vista support.
    Post relates to: Tungsten E

Hello and thank you for using the Palm Help Forums!
I am really sorry that you are having issues syncing your Tungsten device. We appreciate your business and wish to keep it. We do support Vista, however, we do not have compatible software witht eh 64 bit version as of yet (only 32). You can try our Palm Desktop 6.2.2 software and see if you can get it to work but most likely it either won't or will give you problems. It is posted in our downloads for Palm desktop:

Also, you are using an end of life device that may not sync up with Palm Desktop version 6.2.2. My suggestion is download and install a version of Palm Desktop 6.2.2. and see if you can establish a cable sync before you try to sync with bluetooth.
Hope this helps and let me know if you have any further questions.

  • Java Plug-in linux installation problem

    Hi!
I am new to this subject, but I want to comment that I have problems installating the java plugin into my netscape 7.0 for Linux. My platform is Red Hat Linux 7.3.
I have followed the instructions written in
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/install-linux-sdk.html#install-pkg
but I still found that the plugin is not installed. (i.e when I open a web page that
requires java plugin I still see a window saying "this page contains information type
(application/java-vm) that can only be viewed with the appropiate Plug-in..")
and also as confirmation the web page:
    http://wp.netscape.com/plugins/manager.html
checks that that it is not installed the plugin.
    Would anyone please help me?

You posted a problem that would be answered better and faster in a Linux or Netscape forum.
You posted an installation question to "New to Java...", ignoring the fact that there is an "Installation" forum where you're more likely to get an answer.
You posted a question that has, in fact, been answered in these forums already. You didn't bother to use the "Search" function. Try "plug-in linux install", and check out the first page of results.
You posted a note, and waited FOUR WHOLE HOURS before whining that nobody's helping you. I'm amazed at your display of patience and understanding.
Hint: this is a volunteer forum, inhabited by random Java developers. People answer when and as they have the time or inclination. Nobody here is getting any kind of return from responding. Nobody here owes you ANY response, much less an immediate one.

  • Install problem on Win7 disables disc drive

I have an older version of Production studio that I had installed on a Windows XP Pro system.  I have recently obtained a new computer with Windows 7 Pro and am having a terrible time getting this product installed on my new computer.  At first it went through disc 1 (there are 5) and hung up. I had to reboot but my dvd drive was missing in action.  I had to do a system restore and tried again.  This time it made it to disc two and I had the same problem, it hung up and I had to do a system restore because drive was not visible.  After much searching and a denial of support from customer service, although I had spent thousands of dollars in purchase and upgrade over the years (sigh) I found a possible solution that stated a problem relating to an existing dvd authoring product that may be on my system and conflicting with the install.  This solution was not really acceptable since it indicated that my "installation" did not 'play nice' with a competing product, even though it came installed with my system (another sigh).  Another suggestion was uninstalling and reinstalling OS which was not acceptable either, since a vendors software, even if it is an older version should at least have some patches to allow it to work with the latest OS, not the other way around.  I have been very happy with my Production Studio software over the years but am very disappointed that it will not work with my newer system.  Compatibility mode won't work because I can't install it completely.  Does anyone have any suggestions that might help me in getting this to work with my new computer?  I can't affort the 800+ dollars to upgrade to the latest/greatest which will be 1200+ when the 5.5 versions release and I'm not crazy about switching to a commercial (ie non-professional) software alternative.  I mostly only need to continue with Premiere Pro and Photoshop but even if I upgrade those two it's not cost effective to a limited income retired person like me.  Any help greatly appreciated.  (and suspecting some comments on my user name, the site would not accept my regular login I've had for 15 years, so I just hit some keys to get this question input)
    Thanks, Bill

Well, I installed the virtual pc and xp compatibility software and it looks like it may have worked.
Premiere Pro was missing a .dll but when I clicked on ok, it still loaded up.  Photoshop needed
printer drivers installed, which was kind of redundant to have them installed twice but I guess
the virtual pc is like a dual boot but already active on Win7.  Thank you for your suggestions
to help me get this working.  Now I need to save up to upgrade when CS8 comes out
