Solve my odd iPhone 4S iOS 5.1.1 battery problem, please...

I have a 64gb iPhone 4S on AT&T.  If I charge the phone to 100% and let it sit overnight for 8 hours, the battery only drains to 97%.  Good, right?  Well here's the rub: via casual use throughout the day at work (some texting, Words With Friends, opening NSFW links on the interwebs, and other assorted tomfoolery to help me escape my station in life of being just another brick in the wall), my battery drains faster than a professional athlete's bank account.  I recently did a full restore via iTunes and the problem persists.  Any ideas as to why my seemingly minimal use is so taxing on the battery?  It seems to have gotten progressively worse as the phone gets older.
And if this, or a profoundly similar topic, has been posted before, no need to go all Zooey Davechappelle on me and direct my attention to forum rules or other snooty, passive-aggressive stuff.  A link would suffice.

That could be the reason if you have a weak cellular data signal.

  • IPhone 5 iOS 6.1.2 sounds problems, how solve it?, iPhone 5 iOS 6.1.2 sounds problems, how solve it?

The instalation of iOS 6.1.2 make troubles in sound sistem of my iPhone 5 - no specker working.
To times restoring and no solutions. Please help me, thanks.

Since upgrading to iOS 6.1.2, I, too, have been having sound problems, but with my earbuds, with one side or the other being either full of static, or only faint sound.  It is inconsistent, and does not always happen.  Also, some songs in various playlists skip randomly, and others cannot be played when selected.  This never happened before this release, and I use the iPod function of my iPhone 4s every day.
Also, the first time I downloaded an app, the iTunes store recognized my iPhone as a NEW DEVICE downloading an app for the first time, though I have had it since October, synced it many times, and have downloaded many apps.  When I looked at my iTunes Store profile, my purchasing history was empty, even though I have purchased several apps this month.
iTunes Support says this (the download part) SOMETIMES happens after an update.  I asked them if it happens sometimes or every time, since it has never happened to me before.  No reply.  They did not address the skipping issue, either.
    Anyone else with similar issues?

  • 5 days old iPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4 battery life please help

My phone is 5 days old and i am so fed up with battery life. I disabled all data settings and location services and i have nothing in notification center for any push notification. But still i lost 40% of the battery in half a day with just 5 mins of voice call and 15 mins of texting. Phone was idle the rest of the time and when i used i had brightness at around just 10-15% this is my first iPhone and totally disappointed as i saw battery to last a full day of normal usage in the internet. I am totally fed up with apple. What should i do now ? I am a student and invested an year's savings of mine to get this phone. I am totally fed up. Someone please help me.

You have to tell us what your usage pattern is like, what your reception/signal strength is, and what network type you are using (E/3G/4G/LTE)
To note, the more the screen is on (in long intervals 2+ minutes) the shorter the battery life is.
Streaming music over 3G will last 6 hours if the screen stays off for most of that time.
Email, messages, web browsing will last most of the day.
Since you have GSM, your phone should last 10 hours with light usage.

If it is a 3GS you cannot update it to 4.3, you can only update it to iOS 6. Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer, connect the phone, click on its name on the left, then click the "Check for Updates" button on the right.
If you can't connect to your home WiFi try rebooting the router.

  • IPhone 5s IOS 8.1.1 battery drain using mail

Problem: battery drain is unacceptably high with -1% per five minutes
Description: after upgrading from IOS 7 to 8 the battery drain on my iPhone 5s (32GB) has hugely increased. Several tips on the internet have been tried from turning off several services to reinstalling the IOS none with no improvement. After reinstallation the drain was acceptable only to result in again a -1% drain per five minutes after a week.
Expected: using IOS 7 I could easily use the iPhone throughout the whole day with -1% per fifteen minutes. After installing an improved IOS one would expect similar or lower battery drain
Tests: as said, severals tips found on the internet have been tested none with any improvement. Deleting all accounts under "Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars" proved to be the only solution for this problem (a non-functional solution I must add since I'm using this iPhone for communication...). Even keeping the iCloud account but disabling all iCloud services did not improve the situation, only a real account deletion worked.
Question: do you know how to get battery drain back to -1% per fifteen minutes whilst maintaining my iCloud and Exchange account using IOS 8.1.1 on an iPhone 5s (32GB)?
    Kind regards,
    Ronald

Since upgrading my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.1, my battery has not been the same. I was able to get 9-10 hours of usage before and am lucky to get 6-7 hours. AppleCare thought that was on the low side and told me to visit my local Apple Store for a thorough diagnostic testing of the battery. My appointment is tomorrow. Will report back.

iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1.3 updated 2 days ago.
I had 100% charge at 6pm, left it out of the charger and DID NOT USE the phone thereafter - left it sitting on my kitchen counter till the next morning. And the charge level was 43%!! How does it drop from 100% to 43% sitting on my kitchen benchtop idling away?????
The day before that (after the iOS update), it noticed it went from 100% to about 45% within half a day idling away. So I decided to do my usual fix which is leave it on the charger with the iPhone powered off, then reboot it in the morning with 100% charge - this obviously didn't fix the problem.
    C'mon Apple, FIX IT NOW!!!

  • Iphone 4s battery problems PLEASE HELP

I got my 4s about a week ago. The first couple of days i noticed the battery would go down pretty quick. So i looked online and seen all these different ways to save battery life by switching the settings around. I did all of the recommended changes ( location, brightness, etc.) i had already charged the phone the same way i would charge any phone before i read the full discharge full recharge. I did that two nights in a row and since then i let it get to atleast 2% before i charge it. Last night i put it on the charger around 20% maybe a little more and it definatley overcharged for an hour or two before i took it off. When i go to work i leave it in my locker and go on it during breaks. Normally it would never change the % while on standby and it would go down 1 maybe 2% while i use it. Today by the time it was lunch break it was down to 80%. As i type this my battery is at 64% with 2 hours and 31 minutes usage and 16 hours, 5 minutes of standby.
What happened to it? It bothers me so much cause i love the phone and it was doing good until today.
I JUST NOTICED that there is a new software update iOS 5.1.1. Could this sudden battery problem have occured because i am running older software??!!

You've probabaly just installed and left running more applications. Applications dont entirely close when you hit the home screen. You've probabaly notice when you turn on your phone you have to wait through the loading screen for many applications. After that they sit on the memory of the phone, and the phone uses some battery retaining the state of each application. In Stand-By and still when powered down, your battery will slowly drain (less so when powered down).
You may want to start force closing apps or occasionally powering down your iPhone. Additionally, the battery is not a NiCad battery where you can't charge it when it's at 80% or you'll risk causing the "battery memory" to max at 80%. The iPhone batteries are fine to be charged when they're at 95%. That said, Apple does recommend dispersing the battery to 0% atleast once a month. These batteries do have a battery charge cycle, ie: after so many charges the drain will begin to occur, but it's alot better than say your R/C car battery, or your typical rechargable triple 'A' battery.
On another note, I do recommend you run the latest updates, if there ever is a battery issue and they know about it, they'll try to address the issue.

  • IPhone 4S iOS 8.3 Notification Center Problem

I have an iPhone 4S with iOS 8.3. I've recently noticed that notifications from apps that I've swiped to access from the Lock Screen continue to appear in the Notifications portion of the Notification Center. For example, if I receive a notification from Gmail's app notifying me of an unread email and I swipe the notification to access Gmail from the Lock Screen, the notification pertaining to the unread email remains visible in the Notification Center despite having already read the email; however, using the Slide To Unlock feature from the Lock Screen and then accessing Gmail from the Home Screen circumvents this problem. I've concluded that it's probably not a problem with Gmail's app as this same scenario has happened with iPhone's Tips app and, as I recall, Facebook's app as well. I also recall recently accessing Gmail via a Banner notification and the notification remained visible in the Notification Center afterwards, so my problem may or may not be isolated to Lock Screen app access. As I would rather not have to clear notifications from the Notification Center after already addressing them from the Lock Screen, has anyone here experienced this problem and, if so, solved it? Please let me know if there is a more appropriate community for me to ask this question. Thanks in advance for your help!

OP here.  It appears that my problem is in fact isolated to the Gmail app as I've recently noticed that if I leave messages as unread in my inbox, then Gmail notifications accrue in the Notification Center; however, if I keep the unread count at zero, these notifications do not accrue.  This observation solves my problem as I can control the unread count in my inbox; however, please feel free to suggest a more permanent solution if one exists.  Thanks!

  • Iphone 5 Ios 6.1.4 brightness problem

I have a problem with my iphone 5 running ios 6.1.4
Randomly, sometimes when pushing the home button, or pressing the power button, the brightness of the screen goes all the way down to zero (dimly lit).
I have to go in to settings and tap the brightness to get it to back to full.
(the slider bar shows maximum even if the screen is dark - auto brightness is set to off)
I've read many posts about calibrating , using auto-brightness etc., but I have auto-brightness set to OFF, and the brightness set to maximum. That is the way I like it.
So any ideas whats going on? How to fix the issue. I repeat - I do not want to use auto-brightness, I simply want the iphone brightness to be set to maximum, at all times.
    Thanks
    Mike

Your phone is inappropriately going into pre-autolock dimming.  Try:
    1. Reset phone (no data loss): press both power and home buttons for at least 10 seconds, releasing when the Apple logo appears.
    2. Restore in iTunes using a backup
    3. Restore in iTunes as new, without a backup.
If #3 doesn't help, there is a hardware problem that needs warranty service.

  • IPhone 5  iOS 6.0.2 battery fix (unofficial.. I think I got it)

I bought the iPhone 5 last week , love the phone .. Battery life was great , didn't use it much though . Never even thought battery life an issue . Updated it to 6.0.2. Immediately noticed decreased battery life. Not what some people claim on this forum of phone dying in 2 hrs (these people probably have a hardware issue or are against apple no matter what ) but my new decreased battery life was more like 6-8 hrs occasional use or more like a shift at work and I need a charge. So I took  phone back to place of purchase (only 3 days old) . Got a new one. DID NOT update to 6.0.2 this time. Again battery life was great. About 2 days later , I noticed severe drain , this on 6.0.1. THIS LEADS ME TO BELEIVE IT IS NOT 6.0.2 but the issue resides in 6.0.1. Went online ... Researched the issue . Read forums , posts .. Everything. I also recall terrible battery life on my old 4s as well after going to 6.0.1 . That's the reason why I upgraded to the 5. To get better battery life. But this is not the case.
So after doing absolutely everything ie. reset , reboot, DFU reset , wipe device , restore.. Turned apps off, settings  off , location settings etc etc etc. I still had no luck .
My guess is that it's a COMBO of factors when in place TOGETHER and only when TOGETHER trigger the draining battery cascade.  That's why its so hard to identify. Once the phone goes into drain mode .. It takes a lot of resets , wipes settings turned on then off.. Ie to catch it and shut it down but when factors come together again.. Battery drainage resumes.. COULD be an app TOGEThER with an setting in the phone... Could be how the phone is used... Ie. iCloud + something else.. The way you charge with certain apps running.. The way you close apps.. Etc. THiS IS WHY SOME PEOPLE HAVE THE ISSUE AND SOME DON'T. ,,!
So not being an apple engineer (none of us are..!) we could only hope to guess or try out different things to figure it out ....
I spent hours( days ) trying different stuff  and I feel I might have nailed the magic setting/(s)
Please this is exactily what I did.. .. If it doesn't work, well than 6.1 might be the only help. THIS Worked for me !! In no way I claim what exactly fixes it only this is what I did and all together " exactly " what stopped battery drain. If this helped you like it helped me you could start using your phone the way you want. The way it should be.
    Here are my settings:

You could experiment ie. by turning mail to push etc... But these are the settings that worked for me. I don't know which one or which COMBO did it .. All I can say is I'm using my phone nicely now. I spent a lot of time on this  trying so many combos so if it worked for You feel free to reply back positively or shoot me a PayPal or something:-) couple bucks won't hurt !!!

I agree- I apologize if I sounded skeptical and attacking. In no way did I mean it to sound that way.
I completely agree on the software-hardware combo issue- this is why apple killed off 1G and 2G devices- because newer software revisions would never ever run well if at all on such ancient devices. can you imagine running iOS 6 on an iPhone/iPod touch 1G? That would be terrible. Let alone iOS 3 runs terrible on them and now are generally rendered useless due to newer App Store requirements (most require 4.3+ now to allow apple to kill off the older devices). forcing newer software on older hardware (apple, dell, HP,... Anything electronic this definitely applies to) will almost always yield less-than-par results. The other part is apple forcing you to upgrade by means of intentially making things obsolete. all companies do that.
All of this factual info aside, the issue at hand with the 5 is not a software-hardware combo problem- those are most widely seen with the major revisions. then again, this isn't the first time apple has gotten caught up in battery drain snafus (even iOS 5 was plagued with this as well- and now there are some people desperate to roll back but can't). it basically waters it down to the point where keeping the stock software will always yield the best results even though newer versions provide better features- it all depends on whether or not the person deems the added features are worth a performance hit.
PS. I'm still at 100%- and I've been using it periodically throughout the day. your combo worked for you, but didn't for me. And may or may not work for others- As the tech world would say, mileage may vary.
PSS. What model/carrier do you have? Just wondering.

  • IPhone 4S iOS 5.1.1 battery issue

Hi, i have an iPhone 4S 16GB iOS 5.1.1 and have terrible battery life.
I fully charged my phone to 100% this morning and it has drained 70% in just 7 hours under very minimal usage [wifi OFF - cellular data OFF - bluetooth OFF - photo stream OFF - location services OFF] also i have only 15 downloaded apps and about 400 songs after a major cleanup.
I also factory restored my device the day before and had done multiple hard resets, so please don't give me advice about that. I am wondering if there is any fix because atm i am certainly leaving apple if there is no fix

Who are you talking to?  Did you do a forum search?  (Start with the "More Like This list on the right side of this screen.)

  • Iphone 6, iOS 8.0.2, battery drain & overheating

So I upgraded to an iphone 6 from an iphone 5. The phone came with iOS 8.0.2. It seems that I am not the only one with this issue but my my phone gets hot after a short use and battery drains rather quickly. It seems to be a software issue since many people are exhibiting the same symptoms. My battery usage shows that the Home & Lock Screen ate up 26% of the battery and my settings ate up 22%. That seems a tad high. Battery is at 84% after 56 min usage and 4 hr 14 min at standby. Note this is on the initial charge after transferring my data from the iphone 5 to the iphone 6. Battery has not fully drained yet. What do you guys suggest? Thanks.

I have a similar problem on my 5s. Since updating it has stopped allowing me to send texts to my wive, but will accept them and allows calls.
I must add that I can text her when on wifi, and also from my mac, but when on 4g?
    Any ideas?

When I may school, it is a hundred percent, then I check it during school etc, when I go to bed it is about 20-30% battery life. Need help. Any suggestions? I tried a hard resets and restoring to a new iPhone etc, nothing worked.

I"m not at all sure what is the problem when you are describing your battery as holding its charge for 12 hours???
How long do you want your device to hold its battery charge???
Please see this article for tips on conserving battery charge. But PLEASE if you are looking for a device to hold its charge for LONGER than 12 hours I would suggest an android.
